  • Autumn planting of green manure is carried out after harvesting or before winter. In the first case, the mustard is cut off when it reaches the greatest green masses and lightly dig into the ground. By spring, it will completely rot. This option is desirable to use on areas affected by wireworm. In the second case, the grown seedlings are left for the winter. They rot on their own under the snow and in the spring there is almost nothing left on the field.

How to sow white mustard

Practiced dense sowing in bulk, followed by embedding with a rake. In the case of sowing in rows: the depth of the hole is 4-5 cm, the distance between them is 15 cm.

It is not necessary to dig up the area. It is enough to loosen the soil a few centimeters deep and level with a rake. The seeds are quite small, so the depth of their embedding should not exceed 4 cm.

From sowing to the beginning of flowering takes 40-45 days. It is advisable to cut the plant for green mass during flowering, and as a predecessor, two weeks before planting vegetables. It is advisable to carefully adhere to these terms, since fresh mustard plant residues contain substances that slow down the growth of other plants.

White mustard is an excellent affordable green manure for both beginners and experienced gardeners. Properly used, planted on time, it will bring great benefits, improving and enriching the soil with useful substances, ridding it of pests, thereby increasing and improving the quality of the crop.
