Bathhouse barrel made of edged boards. Do-it-yourself barrel sauna: all stages of construction. Preparing for construction

For small ones summer cottages The most pressing issue is the lack of usable space. If the owner of the land also wants to build a bathhouse here, then he will have to work hard to choose a suitable project. The most popular in such a situation will be a barrel sauna, assembled or installed with your own hands.

This invention is attributed to Finnish sauna lovers. It allows you to minimize the cost of installing your favorite Sabbath holiday attribute.

Design advantages

This building has a lot of positive properties:

  • There is no need to install a capital or expensive foundation for such a construction project. Before you make a sauna barrel with your own hands, you just need to select and level the required area.
  • A small piece of land will go under it.
  • Drawings of a barrel bath allow you to change any elements with your own hands if necessary, as well as quickly assemble/disassemble the structure.

Some designs even allow you to create 2 rooms - a steam room and a dressing room

  • Due to its mobility, a do-it-yourself sauna barrel like the one in the photo can be easily transported to any distance, because the mass of all elements rarely exceeds a mass of more than one and a half tons.
  • The maximum useful use of the available volume can be achieved due to the absence of corners in the design.
  • Thanks to its versatility, you can install a wood-burning stove or use high-power electric heaters.
  • The unusual appearance will enhance any garden plot.

The main advantage of the bathhouse is its mobility. At any time, the building can be transported from place to place or even transported to another locality.

It is worth mentioning the negative aspects of a barrel sauna constructed with my own hands from boards. It lies in the fact that the standard design does not provide for insulation in winter period. Therefore, for those who want to use it in winter, it is necessary to take care of thermal insulation. Although this process can increase the final cost of construction.

Material selection

Physical characteristics depend on the material used. In the case of ordinary baths, you can use any material, and then line it inside the right tree, then this will not be possible here.

When choosing, you should not rely on conifers other than cedar. This type of tree can be included in the series possible materials for assembling a barrel sauna with your own hands as in the video. These blanks allow you to create an aromatherapy effect indoors, providing therapeutic and prophylactic properties. It is resistant to moisture and harmful microorganisms.

Linden is also suitable for making a barrel sauna with a stove with your own hands. It will form healing air and have a beneficial effect on the respiratory tract. The disadvantage of this material is its low durability and tendency to rot in a humid environment.

Preparatory work

Before you build a sauna barrel with your own hands, you need to adjust the size wooden elements. When processing yourself, you can use a board with a section of 90x50 mm. If it is not technically possible to adjust the boards, then you can turn to specialists to create the required interface.

When preparing materials, it is necessary to create all boards of equal dimensions.

The quantity is calculated depending on the desired diameter of the building. It is enough to take a sheet of paper yourself and display all the values on it on a certain scale. Usually they mean 2.5 m in height and 6 m in length.

It is important to consider boards for such procedures:

  • bottom installation;
  • installation of partitions;
  • blocking the end parts.

The tightening is carried out with metal hoops, which resemble the classic hoops on traditional barrels. To lay the roof you will need to choose a hard or soft roofing material.

The procedure for assembling from separate boards with metal hoops

Installation procedure

Do-it-yourself assembly of a barrel sauna is carried out on a prepared site. An asphalt surface, a place on paving slabs, or just flat ground with compacted turf is suitable for this.

Under the base, a shaped board up to 5 cm thick is used and with a figuratively cut hemisphere to look like a barrel. They are mounted every 1.3-1.5 m. Sawing is carried out according to a single pattern. Holders with semicircular holes are attached to the base frame with a construction angle and self-tapping screws.

All wooden elements of the base of the barrel sauna are impregnated with a protective solution with your own hands, as in the video.

VIDEO: The whole truth about the barrel sauna

Rear walls

Both surfaces must be fitted as closely as possible to minimize the occurrence of cracks. The back side usually contains one or two windows. The front room has a door. The places under them are fixed with special wooden spacers.

We fit the dimensions of the door into the circle so that it touches only the corners of the inner perimeter of the circle. We make cuts in the window area with a jigsaw.

Preparing boards for walls

Making a barrel sauna with your own hands requires a sufficient number of boards with certain keys. They are formed by radius processing of timber along two long sides. The first radius will be convex, and the second will be concave. During their pairing, a reliable fixation will occur.

The radii are selected based on the width of the board (r=b). This way it will be possible to securely connect all the boards of the wall.

High-quality dried workpieces, even over a relatively long length, will not rotate and will reliably fit in the locking joints.

Assembly of elements

The base is laid with a slight slope. It will drain excess moisture. At the lowest point we form a drain hole and bring it to it sewer pipe. The first board is placed in the prepared arcs. Preliminary fixation is carried out using an internal partition and crossbars. Next, all the boards are assembled as a simple construction set, and the fixation is completed with metal hoops.

Adjusting the hoops

The roof can be covered as rafter type, and by laying soft roofing material. You can also cover a barrel-shaped bathhouse with your own hands using metal tiles and corrugated sheets.

Due to the economical design, such a bath is heated in 30-40 minutes, and the heat lasts up to 3 hours. This is quite enough for small company or family.

Building a permanent bathhouse is not cheap and takes a long time. But there is an option that you can do yourself in a few days (if you have at least some experience in construction work). A barrel bath is a budget option for a small bath/sauna. Moreover, the building itself has an unusual and attractive appearance, so there is no need for exterior finishing.

The dimensions of the barrel bath can be from 2 to 6 meters. The smallest ones consist of a single room - a steam room with a stove installed in it.

Larger buildings may also have a washing room and a rest room; sometimes a porch with a canopy is attached to the bathhouse. There are, in fact, a lot of options.

Wood can be used to make a barrel bath different breeds, but since it will be used in the most unfavorable conditions(precipitation, sun or frost outside, steam, high temperatures and humidity from the inside), then it is best to use wood varieties that are resistant to moisture. These include, first of all, cedar and larch. Although they cost a lot, the costs are recouped due to long term operation of structures made of these rocks.

When making a barrel bath, an edged board with a tongue-and-groove connection is used.

Some companies can make a special type of recess in the form of a part of a circle. This connection is convenient to use when assembling a round structure.

If you will use the connection normal looking, then you need to take boards of small width so that they “fit” into the circle.

The weight of the structure is not very large and the structure does not require a special separate foundation. All you need is to find a flat, solid area on which to install the bathhouse, and make a base that will support the round structure. That's all.

As a platform, you can use a concreted, asphalted area, laid paving slabs, simply a well-compacted and leveled area covered with turf.

The base is made from high quality edged boards, at least 5 mm thick. The supporting cross boards should be installed at a distance of no more than 1.5 meters, so their number depends on the size of the bathhouse. A rounded recess is cut out on the transverse parts, which follows the contours of the future bathhouse. The contours are applied using a pattern cut from dense material. The remaining part of the board must be at least 10 cm wide.

The prepared parts are connected using screws; additional rigidity will be added to the structure metal corners, screwed at the corners or at the junction of the longitudinal and transverse parts of the base (depending on the design).

Important! Do not forget to treat all parts with impregnation or other protective agent before starting assembly. After installing the barrel, this will be very problematic.

Assembly of bath partitions

The next step is assembling the partitions. The end wall boards are attached to several base bars. When assembling partitions, do not forget to leave an opening for installing a door (doors, if there are several rooms) and a window. All boards must be treated with a special impregnation for the bath.

Everyone chooses the diameter of the barrel themselves, based on the composition of the family or those who will take a steam bath. Please note that it is uncomfortable to be in very small rooms, and heating very large ones will take a lot of time.

Several boards of the required length are laid on the prepared base, connecting them using the tongue-and-groove method. When a certain part has been assembled, sufficient to install the end partitions, they are installed and secured. Then they continue to assemble the boards around them, completing the circle.

Nuance! To make partitions easier to install, on longitudinal boards in certain places With inside cut grooves equal to the width of the partition board. A ready-made partition is then installed in them.

To ensure structural rigidity, it is advisable to tighten the finished barrel with iron hoops. Iron clamps are used to connect the parts of the hoop (preferably on both sides). Then, during use and drying of the wood, the clamps can be tightened, making the gaps minimal.

Internal equipment of a barrel bath

The main thing in such a bathhouse is comfortable shelves. They are recommended to be made from linden or aspen. What else needs to be done in such a bathhouse is the floors. They need to be laid at a slight angle so that water flows into the designated area. To improve air circulation, you can put a wooden grate on the floor, with a distance between the boards of at least 1 cm. In this case, your feet will be warm and dry, and water will drain without obstacles.

Where to drain the water depends on each specific case. If there is a sewerage system on the site, organize the drainage of water into the pipe branch (so as not to leak bad smell, put special valve), if there is no sewage system on the site, you can arrange drain hole, into which water will be discharged.

If you use the sauna only in warm weather, then there is no need to insulate it. If year-round use is expected, then it is better to insulate with modern roll materials, but then it is necessary to take additional care of vapor barrier and interior decoration of the entire room.

And one more important nuance: what kind of stove to put in a barrel sauna. There can only be two options: either an electric heater or a small wood-burning stove. When installing the stove, do not forget to carefully and reliably protect the wooden walls, floor and ceiling near it, and the chimney outlet (when using a wood-burning stove).

Exterior decoration of the barrel bath

The last necessary stage is the installation of the roof. You can simply make a soft roof, or assemble a simple one rafter system, onto which the roofing material is then mounted.

When installing soft roof, the upper part of the barrel is covered with waterproofing material, on which soft roofing material (roofing felt or bituminous shingles) is laid on top. To make rafters, bars with a cross-section of 50x50 mm are used, and corrugated sheeting or metal tiles (laid on the sheathing) can be used as roofing material.

The outside and inside of the bathhouse can be treated linseed oil, but it’s possible. Everyone decides what to process for themselves, based on their views and preferences.

The barrel sauna can be assembled in a few days at most, but it can delight you and give you health for years. A very good option for dacha use and more.

For the construction of a bathhouse you can choose traditional version– cut down a small one or build a steam room according to frame technology. A sauna barrel made with your own hands from specially prepared boards looks much more attractive and original. Since the method of assembling a house-side structure is of interest to many homeowners, we suggest considering the manufacturing procedure in this article.

Selection of design and dimensions

The building is similar to a barrel not only externally, but also structurally. The structure consists of the following elements:

  • round end walls, knocked together from tightly fitted boards, are analogous to the bottom and lid of a barrel;
  • side walls assembled from longitudinally laid thick boards with special recesses (following the example of a log house);
  • external ties made of steel strip or cable, resembling barrel iron hoops;
  • stands for horizontal installation assembled body on the ground;
  • elements of interior design - stove, shelves, partitions with doors (if necessary).

Steam room, washing room and dressing room in the form of a classic round barrel

Reference. There are more complex designs, made in the form of a rectangle with rounded corners or an oval, shown in the photo below.

The first step is to decide on the design and layout of the bathhouse premises - the future dimensions and foundation of the structure depend on this. Please note important point: side walls are made from solid boards, made specifically for a bathhouse, so the length of the structure directly depends on the length of the lumber.

Construction and interior layout barrels are developed depending on the selected type of bath and other wishes of the homeowner as follows:

A beginner who decides to build a barrel-shaped sauna on his own is not recommended to start with large structures equipped with several internal partitions. Make a one-room sauna 2 m long - if desired, it can be loaded on a trailer passenger car and take it to a resting place near a pond.

Harvesting lumber

The beams and boards for a bathhouse made in the form of a barrel must be sawn from hardwood - aspen, linden, and so on. Of the coniferous species, the use of cedar and larch, which are resistant to temperature changes and moisture, is allowed. Pine and spruce, when heated strongly, release resin, whose drops can burn people in the steam room.

Advice. If the choice of wood is limited only coniferous species, for the cladding of the upper part of the body, select boards without knots, which are sources of resinous discharge.

To make a barrel-type sauna, purchase the following timber:

  • timber minimum cross-section 10 x 10 cm for stands;
  • a board 45-50 mm thick and 10 cm wide is used for assembling end and side walls;
  • wooden door 0.7 x 1.8 m with a frame (you can buy a ready-made one or make it yourself from timber 50 x 50 mm and boards 2.5 cm thick);
  • lumber for the manufacture of shelves and lattice trays.

The number of boards on the end walls of the barrel is calculated as follows: the area of the circle is determined, the resulting value is divided by the width of the product and multiplied by a safety factor of 1.2. Do not forget to add bars - power jumpers that connect the boards to each other during the panel assembly process.

Side paneling timber is calculated by the circumference divided by the width of the board. Apply a safety factor since the wood must be mortise-and-tongued on a woodworking machine.

Note. On sale it is not difficult to find ready-made kits for assembling bathhouses - barrels of various sizes and layouts. But often the quality of these products does not correspond to their cost.

What else will be needed in the process of building a round bath:

  • metal ties – steel cables or stripes;
  • fasteners – galvanized screws and nails;
  • compositions for external and internal wood treatment – antiseptics, varnishes;
  • materials for the manufacture of the roof - shingles, plywood, beams and roofing (common options are bitumen shingles or corrugated sheets);
  • sauna stove of appropriate power, calculated according to the volume of the steam room;
  • chimney pipes - sandwich;
  • special lamps and switches for baths, non-flammable cables.

If you plan to use the barrel year-round, it is worth making external insulation. Suitable thermal insulation material– mineral wool, polymers are not recommended.

Wood processing

Since the walls of the bathhouse are joined in a special way - according to the type log cabins, all boards need machining using cutters on a machine, cutting out semicircular grooves by hand is unrealistic. The developer needs to contact a woodworking workshop and provide sketches with the parameters of the workpieces. The exact dimensions of the ridges, grooves and profile of the cutter are indicated in the drawing.

To facilitate further construction work, process the trimmed workpieces in advance according to the instructions:

Advice. Cover the surfaces of the workpieces going outside and inside the barrel with different protective compounds. From the inside, apply a special product for baths and steam rooms.

After painting, stack the boards to dry, laying thin strips between the tiers. How to lead correctly preparatory work, look at the video:

Manufacturing of end walls

As mentioned above, a barrel-sauna is made with your own hands from two (minimum) round edge elements connected by profiled cladding boards. Therefore, construction begins with the assembly of the ends of the barrel using panel technology.

Place 2 support beams on a flat area and begin assembling the rear blank wall in the following sequence:

Advice. It is not necessary to tie the blanks into a shield with two long jumpers. Place 4 crossbars shorter and closer to the edge - the product will look more aesthetically pleasing.

When assembling, the groove of each subsequent beam is put on the ridge of the previous one, as builders of log houses do. This method connection prevents precipitation from entering the joint. Fit the boards tightly; if necessary, use clamps and wedging.

The front wall is made in the same way, only the door frame serves as the base. Twist it with self-tapping screws from the beams, having previously secured it to the stands with clamps and aligned the diagonals with a tape measure. To trace the circle, nail a temporary board to the box with the center on it.

After sawing off the excess, sand the ends of both pieces and install the door. It would not hurt to additionally secure the edge boards of the wall with long furniture screws screwed into the adjacent board bars. How to make the round walls of a barrel-sauna, watch the video:

Instructions for assembling the bath

The structure needs to be assembled locally - it is quite cumbersome to move. But first you need to make stands - legs located under the outer walls and partitions. For making, use as much as possible the scraps of materials left over after assembling the front and back walls. One of the design options is shown in the photo.

Installation of the sauna barrel is carried out in the following order:

Important point. A version of a traditional Russian bathhouse with a sink is installed at a slight slope towards the rear wall. A hole is drilled at the lowest point of the floor to drain water.

The finished barrel body should be protected from precipitation so that upper part the smaller baths got wet. It is recommended to use the budget method here:

  1. Nail flexible wooden strips across the body at intervals of 0.5-0.6 m.
  2. Pin sheets of thin plywood to the top of the planks.
  3. Cover the improvised base of the roof with bitumen shingles.

If insulation is needed, the shingles are nailed to the body in several layers - the gap between the plywood and the outer surface of the barrel will increase. There you can lay mineral wool covered with a diffusion membrane. The procedure for assembling the bathhouse is shown in detail in the next video:

Construction work

Upon completion of installation, proceed to the internal arrangement of the barrel. The following work remains to be done in the bathhouse:

  1. Do it in the back vent, closed with a lid.
  2. Place the oven using a metal stand. Protect the section of the wall behind the stove with fireproof materials - roofing steel or mineralite slabs.
  3. Make a chimney from a sandwich pipe by making a hole in the ceiling. Read how to install chimney pipes correctly.
  4. Make shelves and a floor drain (lattice tray), attach the elements to the walls.
  5. Lay out the electrical wiring, install a bath lamp and a switch.

Under the barrel - Russian bathhouse, it is advisable to dig a pit in advance to drain water through a hole in the floor. There is another way of drainage - connect a flexible pipe to the drain, laid to a storm drain gutter or other place.

Conclusion

If you decide to self-production baths are barrels, be patient and a large number free time. The author of the videos presented here spent about 1 month assembling it from scratch. Add time costs to resolve unforeseen delays and problems associated with lack of experience. There is a way to reduce construction time - order a ready-made kit to the craftsmen, and only do the installation yourself.

Today, barrel baths are a very popular product. Beautiful view The barrel-shaped bathhouse is a captivating sight. The idea to create a barrel-shaped bathhouse came to our country from neighboring Finland. Barrel saunas have been popular there for many years. As of today Russian market large number offers of this product, for every taste and budget. The cost of such a bath depends, of course, on its size and the materials from which it is made. The length of the sauna barrels ranges from two to seven meters, and the average diameter is two meters. A short bathhouse can accommodate only the steam room itself, while a large one can accommodate all the amenities of a regular stationary bathhouse: a shower room, a relaxation room, and a toilet. For mobility of the bathhouse, it is installed on a light car trailer and is very often used for commercial purposes. All these additional options lead to an increase in the price of the bath many times over.

Let’s analyze and calculate the cost of a barrel bath if you make it yourself. Let’s take, for example, a barrel four meters long and two meters in diameter, in several designs. Drawings of such a bathhouse can be easily found on the Internet.

Bathhouse made of barrel boards 44 mm thick without the use of insulation

The simplest and inexpensive option making a barrel sauna with your own hands will be a sauna from the so-called barrel board without additional insulation. The barrel board is so called because it has a semicircular groove and tenon of the same shape and is used for the production of large barrels. Let's calculate the required amount of boards. To do this, let's calculate the circumference of the barrel, which is equal to 2πR. The diameter of the barrel is two meters, which means 2*3.14=6.28 meters. Boards can be used of any width, but most often their size is 15 cm, and taking into account the fact that part of it will fit into the groove, we will take it as working width 12.5 cm. And so, we calculate the number of required boards 6280/125 = 50.24 pcs. Required number of boards: 50 pcs. There will be a small gap equal to 0.24*125=30 mm. It will close when the outer boards are tied together, since the diameter of the bath will decrease slightly. The reduction in diameter is due to the fact that a small groove is cut into the outer boards for a tighter fit to vertical walls and partitions. Boards are usually sold 6 meters long, which means this volume of boards (50 pieces) is enough for two walls and one partition. It must be remembered that the board must be well dried. Searching through advertisements on the Internet, we find pine board humidity 15% costing 11,500 rubles per cubic meter. There are 22 boards in a cube, which means we need 50/22 = 2.27 m3. Multiply the cubes by money and get 26105 rubles for the entire bathhouse. A barrel sauna made of cedar will cost more, because 1 m3 of cedar board already costs about 35,000 rubles, and larch about 40,000 rubles. Metal hoops for tying boards must be used from stainless steel. For this bath it will be enough to use three hoops. Their cost will be about 6000 rubles You can cover the bathhouse with flexible bitumen shingles or polycarbonate. Let's calculate the roof area: 6.28/2=3.14* 4=12.56 m2. Price bitumen shingles varies greatly depending on the manufacturer. Let's take the average price of 400 rubles per m2 and get 5024 ruble Two doors, the entrance door and the one to the steam room, will cost 7000 rubles For the rest room it is necessary to make benches from any wood, and for a pair of shelves from hardwood (linden). Benches for the rest room 500 rubles, for steam room 3000 rubles Wooden grates on the floor 1000 rubles In a barrel bath, it will be enough to install two sockets and two lamps, which must be connected through a separate machine. Electrical equipment 1000 rubles And finally, the most basic thing without which a bathhouse is not a bathhouse is a stove. Barrels are usually used in bathhouses wood stoves not a lot of power, since due to the lack of nodes in the steam room, the bath warms up quickly. A Russian stove with a chimney and a tank for heating water will cost approximately 20000 rubles The place where the stove will stand must be finished with non-flammable material, such as asbestos sheets. Their purchase will cost 1000 rubles The outside of the wood must be protected from moisture and treated with a special impregnation. Let's add more 3000 rubles To ensure stability of the sauna structure, the barrels are placed on special stands with a semicircular cutout. For these purposes, you can use a 50*150 mm board. 1000 rubles We’ll set aside more for fastenings and unaccounted expenses. 5000 rubles

Today, a barrel sauna, four meters long in the basic configuration, is offered for 170-205 thousand rubles. Let's calculate the cost of a barrel sauna made independently with your own hands. We get 79629 rubles for an uninsulated bathhouse made of pine and 132974 rubles for an uninsulated cedar bathhouse.

Bathhouse made of barrel boards insulated with foil insulation

When insulating a barrel bath, in addition to the insulation, you also need to purchase lining, which will have to be used to finish the walls. Let's calculate the required amount of insulation. Standard width foil insulation 600 mm or 1200 mm. The circumference is 6.28 m, the length of the bath is 6 meters, therefore, we need 6000/1200 = 5 segments 6.28 m long. 6.28 * 5 = 31.4 m of insulation. Insulation of the partitions is also necessary and will amount to 3.14 * 3 = 9.42 m2, that is, approximately another 8 m of insulation with a width of 1200 mm. As a result, we get about 40 meters of insulation costing 2500 rubles To seal the joints of the insulation, use foil tape ( 350 p).

Calculation required quantity linings

The working width of the standard lining is 110 mm, the circumference of the bath is 6.28 m, which means that 6280/110 = 57 pieces 2 meters long are needed for the steam room and 57 pieces for the relaxation room. Most often used for finishing a steam room wooden lining from linden. It will cost 15000 rubles The lining for the rest room will cost 5200 rubles

Bottom line: a DIY barrel sauna made from a barrel board with foil insulation will cost 102679 r. from pine and 156024 from cedar.

Frame bath

A barrel sauna can be built not only from barrel boards, but also using frame technology. Going to wooden frame it is sheathed on the inside with clapboard, on the outside with boards, and insulation is placed inside the wall. For the frame you will only need a few 100*50 mm boards. A board for external walls will cost about 8000 r. and you will need about 50 pieces. When covering a bathhouse with regular boards, they are laid slightly overlapped on top of each other, so we take the working width as 130 mm. For interior decoration The lining will take the same amount as for the previously calculated options for making barrel baths. To insulate walls, insulation from mineral wool with foil and will require about 40 m2 ( 6000 rubles). The cost of the frame can be attributed to unaccounted and additional costs.

Bottom line: a do-it-yourself barrel sauna using frame technology will cost 61524

The craving for comfort and the possibilities of new technologies have led to housing being built with a full range of amenities. There is a bathroom or shower in almost every home, but they do not provide a real opportunity to relax. A holiday of soul and body - a bathhouse. Most quick way buildings - do-it-yourself barrel sauna.

What does a barrel sauna consist of?

Design Features

The model of a bathhouse built in the form of a barrel is not a tribute to fashion trends. Possessing interesting design, it fully meets all the standards of a real bathhouse. It looks smaller on the outside than on the inside. Unusual shape allows you not only to save space, but also to use it most efficiently.

It consists of separate modules, which are assembled according to the principle of a designer. Provided the complete set is completely ready, installation on site will take little time - even one person can handle it within one to two days.

The material for the construction of such a bathhouse is boards with a thickness of at least 45, preferably 50 mm, with a width of up to 90-100 mm. The smaller width makes it possible to achieve the tightest fit of the wall modules to the partitions. The length of the boards is selected based on the desired size of the building, and their number is selected based on the radius of the circumference of the end walls and partitions, which are made in the form of a circle. To move freely inside the “barrel”, a diameter of 2200-2500 mm is sufficient. A larger size significantly increases the weight of the structure and the consumption of materials.

The bathhouse, which looks like a large beer barrel from the outside, can be built on the inside like a sauna or Russian bathhouse. Here everyone is free to choose for themselves.

Advantages and disadvantages of a barrel sauna

Positive points:

  • Installation does not require foundation construction;
  • Takes up little space on the site;
  • Interesting bright design that will fit into any landscape;
  • Mobility. If desired, it can be easily transported to another place. Sometimes such a bathhouse is immediately mounted on skids or a mobile platform;
  • Possibility of rapid construction;
  • The absence of corners allows for quick heating;
  • Affordable price.

Disadvantages: for use in harsh climatic conditions You will need additional thermal insulation and interior lining of the room.

Stages of construction of a barrel bath

Weigh your financial possibilities and start drawing up a project. To stay within your budget, divide the work into stages:

  1. Devote time to studying the building materials offered - compare prices, quality, delivery options. The wood for the barrel bath must be dried using a special technology, the edge part is processed as a groove-tenon or an oval-concave profile. Best materials- cedar, larch, oak or hornbeam. Budget option– pine, spruce. For interior decoration it is better to use hardwood. In this regard, linden or aspen have no competition.
  2. Make schematic drawings to make it easier to calculate the required amount of materials.
  3. Prepare your instrument. You will need a saw, plane, screwdriver, drill, hammer, and axe. To impregnate boards with protective compounds, stock up on brushes.
  4. Choose a sauna stove. There are two options here - electric or wood.

For those who have chosen the DIY barrel sauna option, the drawings will become the starting point for construction.

Preparing materials

The construction itself from ready-made modules will not require much time. But the process of manufacturing wall and partition modules is a responsible and complex process. It will require a lot of patience and careful execution of each operation.

Preparing boards for sheathing

It is better to purchase a cladding board with ready-made edge connecting elements, oval-concave or groove-to-tenon. Now, according to the drawings, it is necessary to cut them into pieces of the required length. In each of them, according to the diagram, we make grooves for inserting partitions and end walls of the building. The width of the groove must be equal to the thickness of the partition and have an arched contour - according to the drawings. The final touch is impregnation by special means protecting wood from fungus. Use any varnishes for decorative finishing not recommended.

Manufacturing of end walls and partitions

A shield is assembled from boards square shape and fasten it with bars. Draw a circle of the required diameter and carefully cut out the workpiece. Mark the location door frame And window openings, cut out and, if necessary, strengthen the structure with additional bars.

Manufacturing supports for installing a finished bath

The round shape of the bath requires the manufacture of a special supporting structure. It's not difficult at all. The distance between the supports should not exceed one and a half meters, so calculate their number based on the total length of the structure. Usually 3-4 supporting elements are enough.

Most reliable material, for the manufacture of support plates - hardwood board, the thickness of which is 40-50 mm, and the width is not less than 200 mm.

On the workpiece we mark the contour of the cut, which should follow the shape of the end wall and cut it out. When marking, it is necessary to ensure that at the bottom of the board there remains an untouched area about 10 cm wide. There should also be free areas of at least 100 mm in length along the edges of the board.

We place it on a level surface support boards and using longitudinal bars or boards we connect them into a solid frame.

Doors and windows

The specifics of the bath room require reliable doors and windows that prevent swelling and shrinkage. Best to order ready doors and windows of the required sizes.

Bathhouse stove, lighting and wiring

For lovers of Russian baths, it is better to choose a wood-burning stove, which you can make yourself or buy in a store. The “sauna” mode is easier to maintain with the help of electricity – the choice of offered heaters is large.

For lighting, select special lamps and wiring with reinforced insulation.

Well, it seems everything is ready. All that remains is to prepare the place for installing the bathhouse and begin assembly.

Assembling a barrel sauna

Preparing the site for a barrel sauna

Any flat area with a hard surface and the possibility of arranging a drain is suitable for installing a barrel bath. If the site is uneven, preference for placing a bathhouse should be given to its more elevated part. This makes it easier to ensure good water flow. On level ground, you can dig a shallow hole, the area slightly larger than the size of the supporting frame, and fill it with drainage material, compact and level it.

Sometimes, to increase mobility, the bathhouse is installed on special metal frames with runners. If necessary, it is easy to change its location within the site or take it with you on vacation, for example, for winter fishing.

Final assembly

The desired hour has come final assembly. Installation starts from the bottom. The center is marked on the supporting frame and the first board is laid strictly according to the markings. Wall blanks are placed tightly on both sides of the central board, lock to lock, until end walls and partitions can be installed on them.

When laying, you must carefully monitor the alignment of the groove cuts.

We carefully insert the end walls and partitions into the prepared grooves. Now, sequentially, as in a construction set, we assemble the walls of our barrel. When assembling, you should ensure that the tenons fit tightly into the groove along the entire length of the board. When everything is assembled, we tighten our entire structure with metal hoops with an adjustable clamp. Such a clamp will allow us to further compact or weaken our barrel if necessary. We install doors and windows - the room is ready. This video will help you understand how to assemble a barrel sauna with your own hands.

Interior decoration

Inside the room, gratings should be laid on the floor to provide a smooth and comfortable surface for walking and not retain water. We make benches from hardwood, preferably linden or aspen. The area around the stove must be properly insulated to prevent fire.

With proper care, the barrel sauna will delight its owners for many years. One of the points proper care, is the room ventilation system. For a barrel bath, it is best to provide a multi-level ventilation device - holes in the bottom of the door, in the middle part of the wall and on the ceiling.
