How to make a stand for a hammock with your own hands. A hammock in the country is the best place to relax, made by yourself. The most reliable materials for hammocks

The South American Indians did not suspect that one of the items of their daily use in a millennium would gain unprecedented popularity on all continents. A person who spends 2 hours in this product replaces a night's sleep for himself, gets rid of stress, and relaxes.

Individual hammocks are especially attractive and warm. They are not very difficult to build or secure in your favorite vacation spot. For him, with your own hands, you can choose various materials and installation methods.

Basic fastening rules

There are a lot of varieties of hammocks, but the main rules for placing these structures contain a number of general provisions. It is important to adhere to them in order to protect your vacation from negative situations.

To install a hanging bed yourself, you need to consider the following requirements:

  1. Check the reliability of the supports. Their role is played by special poles, swing holders, walls of the room or trees (forest, garden). The diameter of natural supports should not be less than 20–25 cm. The pillars should be deepened into the ground by at least 1 m. If a stationary place is chosen, the foundations of the pillars can be poured with concrete. Wooden or metal poles are covered with paint (anti-corrosion treatment).
  2. The portable swing holders used must be made of durable materials, all connections in them must be securely fixed. Be sure to take into account the rule according to which the load on the supports can be reduced by increasing the sagging of the hanging lounger.
  3. The distance between the supports is traditionally 3 m. With manually installed supports, the distance is calculated according to the following formula: 30 cm is added to the length of the product. In cases where the product is attached to natural supports, the fixing height and the degree of tension vary. You can go lower and pull more. Or tie higher and make the sagging stronger.
  4. The mounting height of this household item, according to standard rules, is determined at 1–1.5 m. For a specific situation, more accurate calculations can be made: the height is equal to the distance between the supports multiplied by 2 and divided by 3.
  5. The ropes used as fastening material must be thick and strong. Their diameter is not less than 8 mm. It is better to thread through the eyelets (if the model allows it).
  6. For the base it is better to use natural fabrics. They are much easier to adapt to the shape of the human body, allow it to breathe. Synthetic fabrics are lightweight, durable and cheap. However, they lack the advantages of natural materials. It is optimal to use tarpaulin or camouflage fabrics, mattress teak. It is advisable to change the fabric base every 2-4 years.
  7. A knitted (knotted, corded) hammock is preferable from cotton materials. They are tightened tighter in knots, more pleasant to the touch compared to nylon threads.
  8. In places of friction, fixing the rope to the support, a collar (cambric) is put on it. This is protection in the form of a nylon tube, which has the necessary elasticity and flexibility.

Location selection

To successfully fix the hammock with your own hands, you need to accurately select the location. If the proposed installation is carried out in natural conditions, then two trees with the desired trunk thickness are searched. The distance between them is set to determine the hanging height.

It is desirable to fix the hanging lounger tightly. Over time, the canvas (bed) will definitely stretch, sag. A low-lying canvas will make the product inconvenient to use.

The requirements for a specific installation site are:

  • reliable protection from wind and sun;
  • the platform under the product must be flat (the existing pits will fill with water after rain, turn into puddles, spoil comfortable conditions for recreation);
  • remoteness from noise sources (garage, pumping station, transformer, highway, etc.);
  • proximity to beautiful and cozy corners of the garden or plot: near the pool, gazebos, on the terrace, in the patio area.

The surrounding attractive landscape is considered a good location. This will allow you to fully enjoy the rest, the beauties of nature or your own site.

Rafter-strap suspension system

The finished hammock is equipped with slings (straps). They are a mandatory structural part of the product. Slings are a continuation of the product. The slings include connecting elements and grips:

  • rope branches;
  • links;
  • hooks;
  • rings;
  • staples;
  • carbines.

Slings (straps) are made of thick rope, belt. To create one of the most common options for the truss-and-strap system, a belt 8 m long is taken. Then it is divided into 4 segments. They may be equal in length or different. If the length is not kept the same for all segments, then equal dimensions are established for paired straps.

A knot is tied on a carabiner.

You can use an adjustment bar. Then the installed product will receive an aesthetic appearance, it will become more convenient to use.

The belt is threaded in one direction, pulled out of the other.

The belt is passed through the hole in the carabiner. Then it goes into the adjustment bar.

The end of the belt is brought out.

The end of the belt (tail) must be fixed.

This place is stitched with a dense nylon thread. It is sewn with small, dense stitches. You will need to stitch 3 layers. Alternatively, you can put one metal rivet.

4 straps are built and fastened to the rim (harness) on four sides with carabiners.

Slings in pairs (from 2 sides) are tied to a bar horizontally located between the branches of trees. The distance between the straps should be 40-60 cm. The length of the straps can be adjusted, giving a different configuration to this piece of furniture.

To give the configuration of the chair, the front straps are made longer, the rear straps are shorter.

Rafter-strap systems allow the use of hanging loungers as chairs and swings. This type of fastening is quite reliable and less laborious. It is not required to carry out complex calculations, to check the smallest details with the drawings.

Creation of portable fastening (frame) structures

It is not always possible to find trees of the required thickness, and even located next to each other at the required distance. It is not possible to dig in poles or supports for a stationary structure due to lack of time or lack of desire to “attach” to one place. The best solution in such situations is the creation of a portable structure.

A stable portable rack, which you can build with your own hands, has a number of advantages:

  • lightness, mobility, compactness;
  • freely moves in space;
  • installed anywhere on a flat surface;
  • made by hand from materials that are often easily accessible;
  • durability, style appeal, aesthetic originality;
  • much lower cost compared to the price of the finished mounting frame.

What materials and tools will be needed

From the necessary materials and tools, you need to prepare in advance:

  • board (section 100x30 mm) for crossbars - 2 segments 1.3 m long, 2 segments 1.5 m long;
  • wooden bars (section 80x80 mm); longitudinal bars 3 m long (2 pcs.), side mounting beams 2 m long (2 pcs.), thrust beams 1.45 m long (2 pcs.);
  • fasteners (metal studs, washers, nuts);
  • stain or varnish for processing wood products;
  • hooks (rings, carbines) for fixing the canvas;
  • grinder;
  • drill;
  • circular saw (hacksaw).

Stages of building a portable rack

In order for the portable rack to be reliable and functional, follow the established sequence of actions when manufacturing it.

  1. At the initial stage, all prepared bars are polished. Some advise to carry out this operation at the final stage. But when the structure is already assembled, not all places will become available for the grinder. Therefore, it is better to clean all the bars and boards before starting installation. For the same reason, all mounted parts can be opened with a stain, let them dry. Then the bonding points will definitely receive anti-corrosion protection. But, on the other hand, in the process of assembling the structure, the coating may be damaged. If you are not lazy, then you can first make a complete installation, then disassemble the structure, cover it with stain (or varnish, paint), and then carefully assemble everything again.
  2. Decks are being made. These are side parts located at opposite places in the structure for installing the web. In the upper parts, oarlocks (hooks) are mounted on which this product will be hung.
  3. Side beams 2 m long are placed between the longitudinal bars 3 m long. Through the through holes they are fastened with bolts (studs).
  4. Support bars are cut at a certain angle. This angle is calculated by measuring the camber at the upper points of the jibs, which must be at least 4 m. The jib and the stop are rigidly fastened together.
  5. The lower parts of the thrust bars are placed between the longitudinal bars, fixed with bolts (studs). The slope and location of the jibs should be symmetrical. The approximate angle of inclination of the jibs is 60 °.
  6. Longitudinal bars and jibs are installed on prepared crossbars. Each of the crossbars is made from 2 pieces of boards. Below, to ensure reliable stability, there is a segment longer (1.5 m), above it - shorter (1.3 m).
  7. The crossbars are installed under the longitudinal bars along the edges on both sides. The distance from the center line of the crossbars (center) to the edge of the longitudinal bars is not more than 60 cm.
  8. The canvas is attached to the prepared frame.

Such a design can not only be transferred to different places in a personal or summer cottage, but taken with you on vacation. Mounting, dismantling the rack and fastening takes a few minutes.

Possible mounting frame options

The design features of the mounting frames for the hanging bed may have minor modified differences. However, the set of tools and materials changes little. The general manufacturing technology remains similar to the steps already described.

The provided drawings and drawings fix the step-by-step process of assembling frames for this furniture product. They are easy to understand. The structural parts remain the same. Only the options for combining them change.

Based on the proposed step-by-step guides, you can even imagine the technology of their manufacture using the images of ready-made frames for fastening. Based on the available tools and materials, the designs can be modified at your own discretion. The main thing is that the bearing parts are durable, and the base is stable.

Below is a variant of the frame made of metal joints. During its construction, welding work of individual units is provided. If there is no welding machine, such work can be done in the workshop, and the general installation can be done on your own.

There are options for combining metal and wooden parts. The advantages of such structures are that the structure is less bulky, easier to assemble and disassemble. However, metal fittings will most likely have to be made to order.

And here is one of the most budget options. All wooden structural parts are made from tree stem parts. Details are carefully cleaned of bark, polished and fitted to each other. Wooden elements are opened with a colorless varnish. This frame looks stylish and original. And certainly no one doubts that it was made by hand.

Original design and functional solutions

The problem of fastening is solved in combination with other tasks. On the frame holding the hammock, an awning canopy is constructed from awning fabric. It turns out the original gazebo. On one of the supporting legs of the frame, a small coffee or coffee table is made. Graceful supports can be made from natural tree trunks. You just need to carefully look around and find a tree of a suitable configuration.

By connecting 2 hammocks, setting them on a pair of supports, they create a family bed. From above, it is covered with a kind of canopy made of dense waterproof fabrics. The perimeter can be surrounded by light tissues. You can use mosquito nets.

The original designs include a combination of natural materials with added details. Here is a structure, one part of which is a tree growing on the site. It is complemented by a second support and a horizontal crossbar. Together, we got a design that is successfully used to install various types of these products.

At the heart of all the various embodiments of fastening hammocks, the requirements of safety and respect for nature remain mandatory.

A hammock on a metal frame is simple, convenient and durable. The main thing is to make a reliable design, it can be collapsible or welded tightly - as they say, there are no comrades for the taste and color.

And to make it easier for you to decide, we will consider different options for how you can make a metal hammock stand with your own hands.

Yes, if you don’t have a hammock yet, don’t rush to buy it, maybe you decide to make it yourself - take a look at our article: “how to make a hammock with your own hands”.

DIY metal hammock stand

Let's start our selection with simpler options.

In general, in most cases, round and square metal pipes will be involved, we will discuss different options for connecting them to each other (which is especially important for those who do not have welding).

So, the first hammock stand made of round metal pipes without welding. In the photo below, on the left in a disassembled state, on the right - assembled, ready to be hung on a hammock (by the way, two at once). How was it made? See photo for instructions below.

The author made three racks (for two hammocks), if you need to hang only one hammock, you will accordingly make two “tripods”. Each tripod consists of four pieces of pipes. Three are the legs, and the fourth will go to the crossbar, on which the hammock will be hung in the future. The crossbar is assembled from two halves, a half with a reduced pipe diameter at the end is tied to one tripod, so that it fits snugly into the pipe tied to the other stand.

Here you may need welding: weld a piece of pipe of a smaller diameter to the edge of one pipe to ensure a tight connection; and you can get off with little blood, for example, buy threaded pipes for the crossbar and use fittings to connect metal pipes.

A few words about the design. All that is needed to connect the three pipes is shown in the photo under No. 1.

Namely:

  • Plugs for pipes (on the bottom so that the legs do not sink into the ground);
  • Anchor bolts with rings and nuts for them (nuts should not freely enter the pipe);
  • Anchor bracket with a threaded pin (for connecting together three rings from anchor bolts).

Actually, everything is quite simple: you need to drive one nut into three pipes with a hammer, screw the anchor bolts into them. Which then connect together with an anchor bracket. Next, tie the “crossbar” pipes to the cord. And so do two tripods.

Those. on an iron stand for a hammock (one) you will need: 6 cuts of steel pipe 180 cm each, two 150 cm each; 6 plugs; 6 anchor bolts with rings and nuts for them; 2 anchor brackets. You can change the dimensions of the pipes (length and diameter) at your discretion.

In addition, according to this principle, you can make a stand on the contrary for four hammocks at once. What can come in handy when hiking, hunting or fishing. Yes, and in the country for relaxing with friends will be very useful.

An alternative option for such a stand: drill holes in the pipes and connect them with bolts and nuts.

Please note: for greater stability, the legs were additionally connected with a cord almost in the middle.

And another upgrade, but welding was already used here. And notice the pipes, at the junctions with bolts, flattened. And as a crossbar board.

By the way, it is more convenient and easier to work with a tree - you may like our selection more: "".

In addition, stabilization was made in the middle with the help of pipes and clamps.

In general, it turned out to be a good metal hammock stand.

Those who have welding can make the following iron hammock stand (which, by the way, can also be disassembled and reassembled at any time). This design has 4 legs. I will not paint a lot, everything can be seen in the photo, you can experiment with sizes.

Here's what the stand looks like assembled.

For greater clarity, the notes are marked in different colors.

We have already mentioned threaded pipes and fittings for connecting metal pipes, with their help you can assemble a very reliable stand for a hammock.

To begin with, I offer you a visual diagram of such a hammock stand made of metal pipes.

And a couple of live examples.

And modernization.

You can find a lot of useful things in the hardware store. Give free rein to your imagination!

Metal hammock stand blueprint

I present to your attention a simple drawing of a stand for a hammock. To create a stand based on his motives, you will need welding to one degree or another. There are several different ideas under the cut.

The first option with a minimum of welding. Namely: sections of 15-20 centimeters were welded to the support pipes (on which a hammock is hung) from below. They were then bolted between two pipes at the base to create a solid structure (which can be dismantled for easy transport or storage).

In the same stand, all parts are welded, and reinforcing bars are added on the outer sides to stabilize the structure.

In this hammock stand, the bottom was “strengthened” by the additional addition of iron corners on both sides along the entire length of the lower beam (upper right corner).

A video with an example of assembling a factory stand, in principle, by analogy (if you have the necessary materials and skill), you can make such a stand with your own hands.

In the first two videos, a profile was used: 60 * 40 and 40 * 40, thickness 2 mm, thrust bearings - a strip of 80 * 5 mm.

By the way, you can use old pipes, if any. Paint the finished metal hammock stand in your favorite color, and the result will exceed all expectations.

And the following photo example shows the right thing: the rack extension system. This is a great way to increase the distance between the hooks on the supports. After all, the hammock can stretch out or you just want to hang a new hammock that is longer than the old one.

Factory model: on it, pay attention to the holes drilled on the supports themselves (under the hooks), i.e. you can adjust the height of the hammock hanging - another useful bonus.

The only thing I want to pay special attention to: in the options presented above, the location of the iron support in the middle from the bottom may not be safe. Especially if you have small children! Or make it as low to the ground as possible and not too large. Or pay attention to the stand below with a rectangular base.

And finally, a photo example from the “author burns” series. To connect the structure, special metal corners were used (in photo No. 1), but not a beam was inserted into them (which is much more appropriate), but metal pipes with a large diameter. It is difficult to imagine the weight of such a stand, but one person obviously cannot move it. In general, experiment, but without fanaticism!

Original do-it-yourself metal hammock frame

At the finish line, I offer you a hammock on a metal frame in the form of a boat, well, or who has any associations. True, to create such a miracle of technology, in addition to welding, you will need a special machine with which the profile is rounded.

Such a round frame for a hammock can be made from a single pipe with legs or assembled from several parts.

I hope we answered your question: how to make a metal hammock stand with your own hands. And that's all for me. I wish you inspiration and creative success!

A hammock for giving with or without a frame is a great tool for a perfect holiday. Easily fits in a bag, taken with you anywhere and you can hang it even in the country, even in the forest. True, the situation has developed in such a way that hammocks in stores are represented by a huge number of copies and types. And the prices often bite. But for everyone who wants to acquire such a design, there is a cheaper and more interesting way out - to make a hammock with your own hands: pick up materials, choose a method and assemble your own, dear to your heart, but not to your pocket, hammock.

The entire article is conditionally divided into three parts. In the first, let's talk about the classification of hammocks, their advantages and differences from swings, fabrics and fixtures. In the second part of the material, we will consider 6 master classes that answer the question of how to make a hammock with your own hands:

  • Single classic for two trees;
  • Double made of fabric on a stand;
  • Macrame;
  • Chair hammock for giving from fabric;
  • From jeans;
  • Children's home.

In conclusion, you will learn about the improvement of the design and the rules of operation. Get comfortable!

Advantages and disadvantages

Before you start creating your own hammock, you need to take a closer look at the features of the device, study the advantages and disadvantages. And they, just the same, directly follow from its design and the materials used to create it.

Advantages:

Flaws:

  • The only drawback that can affect a person’s opinion is the limited position that is comfortable for relaxing. In a hammock, you can normally get settled in only two ways - lie on your back or side. Any other positions will be extremely uncomfortable: the spine will bend and the muscles will become numb.

What is the difference between a hammock and a swing

Before you start directly creating a hammock for a summer cottage with your own hands, you need to clarify one more thing - what is the main difference between a swing and a hammock? Many people confuse these two concepts and often come across different production technologies. And the fundamental difference here is in the most important thing - the design.

In the case of a swing, this is a bench or a seat that is attached to a horizontal bar. It would seem, so what? A hammock can also be hung like this. But then it will be uncomfortable to lie in it - it does not have a suitable type of fastening, and the method of installing the bed itself is not what is needed.

So, the main difference between a swing and a hammock in terms of the method of attachment is a hammock to two vertical posts or trees, and a swing to a horizontally located crossbar. The second difference: in a large swing you can both sit and lie down, a hammock is used only lying down.

Hammock classification

Another important point that requires close attention of anyone who decides to make a hammock for themselves - what are they like? Let's take a closer look at the entire existing classification.

By type of attachment

According to the shape and method of fastening, there are two main types of hammocks: with a bar and without.

According to the material of manufacture

If we consider hammocks according to the material of manufacture, then we can distinguish three main types. It is worth noting that each of them can be attached in any way possible - both to the frame of the slats, and simply directly to the racks.

The first type is a hammock-net. As the name implies, it is made from a wide piece of mesh. But, of course, the first material that comes across will not work. Several centuries ago, sailors made such rookeries for themselves from ordinary fishing nets. But now this method is unacceptable. Large-weave hammocks are often sold, but in this case, you need to get something that can be laid under your back - otherwise the mesh will dig into the skin quite painfully. But if you take or make a rookery with fine, even flat weaving, then such a litter will no longer be needed. In one of today's workshops, we will look at how to weave a rope hammock with our own hands.

The main advantage and advantage of this choice of materials is air permeability. The mesh hammock lets the breeze through, it has excellent ventilation and it will always be fresh on it.

The second type is a fabric hammock. Here you need to pay a lot of attention to what kind of fabric the bed is made of. It must meet the requirements of air permeability and strength. It is also harder to handle, because such material needs to be stored somewhere - it gets dirty easily, and then it is difficult to remove stains. Rough materials will rub the skin, leaving unpleasant and even painful marks. So be careful what you buy and from whom.

It is necessary to correctly assess the strength of the material, because it may simply not support the weight of an adult. Perhaps a light fabric is suitable for children, but never for parents. Although with such material the air flow will be better.

The third type is a synthetic hammock. It is often chosen for several reasons.

  • The first and foremost is strength. Synthetics, thanks to the latest developments in this area, have greatly increased their strength and can withstand incredible loads.
  • The second is ease of handling. This applies mainly to the fact that synthetic fabrics are difficult to get dirty and easy to clean. And new research on this topic has led to the creation of synthetics that repel dirt and other wet pollutants. So after use, it remains only to shake off dust and adhering leaves.
  • The third reason is durability. It is inextricably linked with the first, because durable materials are almost not amenable to temporary aging and any kind of corrosion. This fully applies to synthetic fabrics.

The main problem with such materials is poor breathability, so you need to carefully monitor what you buy.

Fourth - a wicker hammock made of wood. This is another traditional view, when a bed is formed from strips of tree bark. You can still order it in many stores or even make it yourself. It is also worth noting that such an outdoor hammock is more difficult to store - the tree bark does not tolerate bends well and it is not recommended to store it folded for a long time. It cracks, loses its appearance and mechanical properties.

By historical affiliation

In addition to the types of hammocks already mentioned, there is another division that dictates its own conventions and limitations. This is a historical division. Many nations throughout history have developed their own traditions for the creation and design of hammocks.

NamePhoto (clickable)PeculiaritiesDescription
Brazilian

● Are well blown by the wind and pass fresh air;

● highly comfortable products;

● very durable, withstand considerable weight;

● not the cheapest if you buy in stores.

They are created on the hot lands of a southern country from the most traditional materials for such an area - natural cotton or from strips of Brazil nut wood. It is also in the Brazilian tradition to make rich decoration for hammocks - mainly from fringe. They are woven from the same raw materials as the bed, by hand and hung on the edges of the product.
mexican hammock

● Differ in a practicality and reliability – strong and durable;

● usually do not decorate with anything other than coloring and patterns.

Mexicans use synthetic fabrics, not forgetting to test them for strength and breathability. Everything should be as functional and convenient as possible. Also, synthetics allow you to paint hammocks in any color, which are located in stripes along the entire length of the product.
Colombian
● Colored with natural dyes;

● retain color and brightness for a long time, even after prolonged use;

The main material for their production is the bark of vines or long strips of hamaka, occasionally strips of agave are used. The secrets of weaving technology do not leave the country, but you can find many similar patterns or do something yourself. The bark of trees is not erased and does not dry out. It is treated with special mixtures that deeply impregnate the wood.
Soviet macrame hammocks

● Produced mainly in one color - white;

● made exclusively in the form of a grid;

● low price and mass production.

Like any other inventions of the Soviet state, these products are distinguished by their simplicity, designed for mass production. They were produced using a simple technology - weaving ropes. The result was a mesh hanging hammock for giving with a frame made of aluminum beams, which was bought up in huge quantities. True, lying in this for a long time is unlikely to succeed, because the net, slightly different from the volleyball net, will eventually dig into the skin painfully. So you need to use some kind of lining.

By shape

There is also a clear division in form. Each of the types of hammocks has its purpose, its pros and cons. Some are more compact and suitable for hiking, while some are more bulky, but provide the greatest possible comfort. The choice depends on the application in practice, and the complexity of production.

First group- hanging hammock chair.

Made specifically to make it comfortable for a person to spend a lot of time sitting, as the name suggests. This form allows you to comfortably sit in nature and unload the spine. They are the most compact of all options and, with some research, the cheapest. But no matter how comfortable they are, they cannot replace a real chair.

Such products are assembled, most often, from a fine mesh, less often from fabric. And for children, it will become a favorite place for games and pranks - you can comfortably swing in it, especially since wisely selected materials will help the “armchair” withstand such loads. How to make a hanging hammock chair with your own hands for a summer residence, we will also consider in this article.

The second group is a camping tourist hammock-cocoon.

Round hammocks are reputedly the easiest to manufacture. All you need is two large enough pieces of cloth. Some reinforce a circle of strong metal inside, but you can do without it if the person is not annoyed by the sensation of being covered with a cloth.

They also like to use such tourist hammocks on hikes - the devices are easily attached to a branch. You can install a mosquito net on the cocoons and insects will not interfere with your rest. Some amateurs even make tents based on this technology - you just need to get hold of a sufficient amount of waterproof fabric.

The third group is a classic hanging hammock.

If ordinary hammocks with two reinforced slats can be seen in almost every summer cottage, then there are more sophisticated options. Some craftsmen make real beds, designed for several people, with mattresses and everything.

It can be either a very bulky bed, in its complexity and richness of details, reminiscent more of a bed from the time of Henry the 5th than an ordinary hammock, or an ordinary small fabric structure. Such hammocks can be assembled on the basis of any material, synthetic or natural.

By strength

The strength of the hammock, as well as its durability, is highly dependent on the fabrics chosen in the production. Lungs provide better airflow under the body, but often last much less than stronger, synthetic ones. Especially recently, when the production of such fabrics has reached a new stage of development, allowing you to achieve amazing results. But still, several main groups are divided, if possible, to withstand certain loads. By the way, the price of the product often depends on this factor - the stronger the fabric, the more expensive the hammock will cost.

The first group - children's hammocks. These products are aimed at children and adolescents, calmly withstand their weight. But at the same time, you should not expect that such a bed will withstand an adult. They are assembled from lightweight materials, using not the most durable wood, because they are aimed at children, not parents. Usually these are natural fabrics and wood, which are not capable of causing an allergic reaction in a child. They are also much cheaper than full size designs.

The second group - hammocks for adults. They can differ in the weight they can withstand, because adults also come in different, so to speak, scales. But at the same time, in general, they are calculated based on more or less the same data. Just in the case of the average representative of the human race, the hammock will have a much greater margin of safety than when a massive person rests on it. Synthetic fabrics, strong wood or even metal, steel are widely used here - it all depends on the production budget and specific needs.

The third and group - hammocks for two. They are designed so that several adults can safely lie on them, which imposes its own requirements on the materials and their choice. In this group, more often than in others, they use the latest developments in the synthetic industry and even steel production. All the same, these products must withstand the weight of several adults, which is a big load for any bed. This means that the price of such hammocks will be several times higher than the cost of conventional, traditional products.

The most reliable materials for hammocks

Before choosing a hammock, you must correctly calculate the maximum load that it can withstand. If this is done incorrectly, then the rest can end in trouble and even injury, especially if a person hits the back of the head hard.

In order to determine the maximum load as accurately as possible, you need to clearly define the material for the hammock. This is logical, because each of them has its own strength limits. Yes, in principle, you can make a hammock from ship chains or a ten-centimeter layer of fabric, but such a product is unlikely to be convenient to use and transport.

It is worth saying that most of the existing models of hammocks are calculated in such a way that they can easily withstand a weight of about 110-130 kilograms.

Let's look at the most reliable materials for making hammocks:

Also, the withstand load depends on the length of the bed itself. With a length of 2 meters and a width of one and a half meters, the hammock can easily withstand a load of up to 100 kilograms. This applies to materials that, according to the load, lie in the so-called “golden mean” up to 130 kilograms.

Mounting features

When developing your own hammock, it is worth considering how the future product will be attached. This is an important point on which the entire enterprise will depend. There are several basic attachment methods that have stood the test of time and are used in the vast majority of cases. But everyone is free to come up with something of their own, the main thing is to know the features of attaching different hammocks.

Wooden hammock stand

A wooden stand is a rather extravagant way of attaching a hammock, it can not be seen often. It is a wooden base on which several horns are attached. Between them, the hammock itself is stretched.

Having acquired such hammock stand it can be installed literally anywhere, as long as there is enough free space. With such a mount, it becomes possible to put a bed even in an apartment, if you free up the necessary space.

What you need to pay attention to if you are going to make a hammock on such a stand?

  • Wood. We determine both its quality and structure, as well as processing methods. Is it protected from moisture, direct sunlight and other negative factors?
  • The correct installation of the horn. The angle at which they are installed should be sufficient - not too obtuse and not too sharp. Basically angle = 135 degrees.
  • Safety regulations. The stand has a certain stability - if it is broken, then the whole structure can fall on its side.
  • Dimensions. Decide if you need a single hammock or for the whole family? Only after that draw conclusions about the size of the stand.

metal frame for hammock

The frame for a hammock made of metal is very reliable. The achievements of modern metallurgy make it possible to provide amazing wear resistance and strength of such a design, although it is purely aesthetically suitable for few. Externally, the design is similar to a wooden stand. Usually these are tubes or slats, occasionally - profiles (also the frame for a hammock can be folding).

Although if you reconsider your views, you can get a very strong structure. And, most importantly, cheap. It costs less than a similar wooden stand. This is because metal processing technology is simpler and cheaper. Rivets, profiles and other methods of fastening the horn are also widely used.

Classic two-tree mount

In this case, the structure is stretched between two trees or beams and fixed to them. How to hang a hammock correctly?

  • with the help of various loops, tying a tree trunk;
  • on a strong branch that has grown in the right position from a tree trunk;
  • secured with special hooks.

This is the easiest and cheapest method to hang a hammock from a tree.

This is one of the main methods of attaching a hammock in nature. Usually it is installed to a horizontal, strong branch.

For this, a sufficiently long and strong cable is used. It stretches vertically upwards and is wound on a strong branch, after which the hammock hangs in the air. Also, instead of winding, they use loops, carbines and everything that you can think of suitable.

Many lovers of this type of recreation install hammocks with a vertical suspension at home. To do this, you need to get a strong anchor or hook, which will need to be screwed securely into the ceiling.

We advise you to be extremely careful with such experiments, because such a mount may simply not support the weight of an adult, especially a few, and not every ceiling is suitable for such purposes (only capital ones).

What fabric can you make a hammock from?

Fabric is one of the main materials that is used in the manufacture of a hammock. It is easy to obtain in any quantities, it provides a sufficient level of comfort and can be painted, decorated in any way the creator wants. But you need to know which fabrics to choose from, because they must meet several requirements.

  • Strength. A do-it-yourself fabric hammock can also be sewn from ordinary gabardine, but it is definitely not designed for such loads.
  • Comfort. Many fabrics that are suitable for strength characteristics are not suitable for such an indicator as ease of use. They can rub and leave painful marks on the skin.
  • Availability. Not all fabrics may be at low cost. And in the case when a person decides to do everything on his own, this is extremely important, because they decide on such events when they want to save money.

Types of fabrics for a hammock or which one to choose

Physical Characteristics of Specified Fabrics

Burlap is assembled from a variety of materials. It can be both linen and jute - in different proportions or only from them. This ensures strength and durability. Also, hemp or kenaf fibers, yarn are often added to it. Burlap density varies from 170 g/m 2 to 425 g/m 2 . To create hammocks, it is recommended to use the most dense types of burlap, they hold loads best and almost do not irritate the skin due to the high content of flax and natural jute.

Cotton consists of a large number of soft and elastic fibers. Its characteristic properties have always been high resistance, which allows it to resist exposure to sunlight for a long time. It is also very heat resistant, can withstand temperatures up to 140-150 degrees Celsius. But the fact that cotton is easily wrinkled is explained by its hygroscopicity - within 17-20%. Easily damaged by friction. In order for the mechanical properties of cotton to decrease by 45%, it needs to be exposed to direct ultraviolet radiation for more than 1000 hours. It also withstands over 2400 full wash cycles.

The high density of flax is provided by a high content of highly organized cellulose in the fibers. It significantly increases the resistance of the fabric to external, aggressive factors. Flax fibers have excellent reflective properties, which helps to combat the effects of sunlight.

It is worth mentioning that parachute silk is much, at times, more elastic than natural silk. It stretches better and retains its original shape. 0.1 millimeter of its fibers are able to withstand loads up to 0.56 kilograms.

To summarize: a comparative table of fabrics with points

Let's summarize and give each type of fabric points for advantages and disadvantages. +1 point for merit, -1 point for disadvantage.

However, when choosing, we recommend relying more on your own opinion, because the fabric must meet the requirements that you put forward. If you need a stronger one, then parachute silk is worth choosing, to save money - burlap. It all depends on what you need to achieve as a result.

So, we figured out the theoretical part, it's time to move on to the practical - directly to the master classes.

Single classic hammock for two trees

This is the easiest type of hammock to make. The design is elementary - there is a bed made of fabric or mesh, there is a mount. Ready. It remains only to understand the details, choose materials, choose the right design and you can start. The main thing is to immediately imagine how the future hammock should look like.

The main feature is to correctly make a support for the hammock and distribute the cables that will be attached to the tree. If both of these operations are done incorrectly, then most of the work will have to be redone - the hammock will not be stable.

Let's make it with our own hands

In order to make such a classic hammock for giving with your own hands, you need to prepare. You will need a canvas measuring 2200x1400mm (we use 100% cotton) - this is a standard size, suitable for most people. You also need to prepare the planks - it can be either wood specially crafted for this business, or just a cut wooden mop holder.

You will also need 16 meters of rope. It can be taken on the basis of strength only, because the cable will not come into contact with the skin. You also need to have a drill, a sewing machine with you. If there is no typewriter, then a needle and thread. And do not forget to grab the eyelets - in total you will need 10 pieces.

1. If there are short sections on the fabric, then they must be bent and stitched, without fail. Also in width it is necessary to make a special edging, through which we will pass the side ropes.

2. We mark the fabric for the eyelets - these are the places where the cord will be attached. The distance between the eyelets should be within 220 mm, depending on the selected fabric size. Distance from the edges of 150 mm The more accurate the markings, the better. Attach half of the eyelet to the fabric, indenting a few cm. It is necessary to draw the inner diameter of the ring. Cut out the holes with scissors.

3. Fit the eyelets to the holes, then snap the halves together. You will need to make 5 of these from the sides where the cord will be attached.

4. Now you need to mark the sticks. From each edge we mark 17mm, mark the hole, and then the distance - 112mm. In total, it is necessary to mark 10 main holes in each stick and 2 side holes through which the side rope will go. As a result, each eyelet in the fabric should be between two holes in the bar.

5. We drill according to the marking of the hole. Their diameter must be 15 millimeters so that a cable 7 millimeters thick can pass freely through them, even if it is folded twice.

6. Now it's the turn of the cord. It is necessary to cut it into equal pieces, each one meter in length. After that, you need to pass the cord through the hole made in the stick, through the grommet in the fabric and again through the stick into the next hole - so that both ends of the cord are on the side of the frame. It is also necessary to pass two long cords of 2700 mm through the side edges.

7. We collect all the cords behind the stick in one bundle, make a reliable knot and tighten it tightly. The resulting knot must be braided.

Done - see photos below! Now it remains only to disassemble the hammock mount on the tree. Read more about this.

Methods for attaching a hammock to trees

Let's make a DIY hammock mount. All that is needed is enough materials to cover the entire post.

The first way is with a loop. It is necessary to acquire a sufficiently long belt or a piece of cable. Its length strongly depends on the thickness of the tree to which the hammock will need to be attached. There are a lot of suitable loops - this is a bowline, and a noose, and a simple knot.

NameScheme

The second way is on a sling tape. With it, a tightening loop is formed. It is necessary to throw a ribbon on a tree trunk and thread one end into the eye of the other. A wooden stopper is inserted into the free eye, which becomes the main one for winding.

Also, if there is a free carabiner, then the line tape can be used differently. It is wrapped around a tree trunk, its ends are brought together and a carabiner is threaded through them, which is used as the basis for the knot. If there are no questions left about how to fix a hammock in the country, go ahead - we will build a stand.

Double fabric hammock on a stand

This variety is also in demand among people who decide that they will make a hammock on their own. In this case, of course, the task will be somewhat more difficult, but also doable. Before starting work, you need to decide on the materials. It is necessary to clearly know not only the fabric for the bed itself, but also the wood that will go to the stand.

Advantages and disadvantages

Advantages:

  • The main advantage is mobility. The fact is that it is very easy to find a place for a hammock on a stand - the main thing is that there is free space. And you can put it both in the forest and in the apartment (however, it all depends on the design of the stand, it can also be stationary).
  • Convenience. Even having made only one stand, it will already be possible to hang different hammocks on it. And with a double, you can comfortably sit alone, spread out as you like, or with someone close, relatives.
  • Durability. If properly processed wood, then the stand will serve for many years.

Flaws:

  • Transportability. Unlike the hammocks of other groups, this one will have to be transported by a large car.

DIY hammock stand

As part of this master class, we will build such a stand for a hammock with our own hands from wood, as in the photo below (the hammock will be different). All that is required of you is described in the table below. We also made two drawings for you, top view and side view. See next!

It is necessary to purchase 6 bars 100x100x2000 mm, or two 100x100x6000. They will form the basis of the design. It will cost you about 1000 rubles. (The cost of a bar 100x100x6000 mm is on average 500 r, i.e. it will cost 1000 rubles.)

We process with a manual milling cutter. The appearance of the stand depends more on processing. If you don't have a router, you can skip this step.

The legs of the hammock holder have dimensions (2 pcs) 100x100x1500 (we saw off the extra 500 mm from each leg). The whole structure will be installed on them.

The support inserts have dimensions (2 pcs) 100x100x350 (from a greater height), the cut angle is 45 degrees. It is attached between the lower support bars and the standing ones.

The standing bar has dimensions (2 pcs) 100x100x2000, installed at an angle of 45 degrees between the lower support bars.

The lower support bars of the holder have dimensions (2 pcs) 100x100x2000. They are installed on top of the legs, parallel to each other.

Studs 12 mm in diameter, a total of 3000 mm is required. You can take three M12x1000 (in stores for about 600r). You will need long drills.

We saw the first hairpin into 4 parts of 250 mm. These are the mounts of the lower support bars on both sides, in total there will be 8 such mounts. The far one is fixed at a distance of 400 mm from the edge, the near one - 100 mm from the edge.

We cut the remaining 2 studs into 6 more parts. We will get 3 fasteners on each side. The first two are used on the lower support bars in the legs, 2 on each side.

One each at 45 degrees to the ground (90 degrees to the bar) between the post and support bars.

Under the long legs, it is advisable to screw small pads 50 mm high. This will prevent rotting of the main bars.

The hammock will be attached with carabiners. And those, in turn, are attached to anchors 12 mm in diameter and 110 mm in length. The anchors are driven into the beam and fixed with nuts and wide washers. The distance between the anchors to which the hammock clings is 3750 mm.

Do-it-yourself hammock stand drawing, “top view”.

Drawing and dimensions of a wooden hammock stand with captions, “side view”.

After you assemble the hammock frame with your own hands, you need to treat it with a special wood impregnation so that it rots while standing on the street.

We make and fix a hammock on a rack

For such a design, a simple hammock model is best suited - without frame rails. You will need:

  • Tkn (linen strand), 1.5 meters wide and 3 long (or sew two cuts to get the right size).
  • Scissors, sewing machine, thread.
  • Two skeins of nylon cord with minimal stretch, 2.5 meters each.

It is necessary to prepare a dense sheet of teak fabric (linen strand) with dimensions of 1500x3000mm.

From both edges it is necessary to make an edge with a sewing machine.

The fabric for the hammock is folded into 3 layers and a loop is made to pass the rope inside, then tied with a noose knot. The rope, folded in half, is passed through the ends on one side and tied around the formed long loop on the other.

The other end of the rope is knotted onto a carabiner, which clings to an anchor with a ring. Ready! We made a hammock and a support for it with our own hands.

Rope macramé hammock - back to the USSR

Such a hammock was very popular in the Soviet Union. Many then were fond of such an interesting practice as macrame, which made it possible to adapt it to production. This method is very economical, although it takes more time than other similar methods. True, for a successful completion, you need to know exactly what needs to be done.

The main feature of the hammock lies in the production method used. For macrame of this scale, you will need a fairly large amount of cord. But it also allows a person to immediately give the product the desired texture and color. Most other types of hammocks need to be painted or somehow difficult to combine the material, when with the macrame technique you can just get the cords right.

How to weave a macrame hammock - photo instruction

This part of the article is made in the form of step-by-step photo instructions. If you have weaving skills and are ready to spend more than one hour to make a macrame hammock with your own hands, then proceed to study the photo instructions. For starters, preparation.

Before weaving a hammock, you need to take care of the convenience of work. You will need special fasteners for the ropes as in the photo, which will help make the weaving correct. Such tools are used in weaving hammocks on an industrial scale.

If such devices cannot be obtained, then a bar will be needed, to which the ropes will be attached. In the bar we will make holes with a pitch of 50 mm and a diameter for the rope.
Prepare approximately 290 meters of nylon cord no wider than 5 mm. This should be enough to tie a hammock with dimensions of 3100x1000 mm.

Hammock dimensions: 3100 mm long, 1000 mm wide. The estimated weight of the product is 4 kg, it can withstand a load of 130 kg.

You can learn more about the process of weaving a hammock in this video.

We hang

After everything is ready and you have fixed the hammock on the beam (as discussed in the preparation), you can start hanging the product. Given that we are dealing with a classical design, it is suspended from two points - trees facing each other or vertical piles. You can hang it using the same methods as a classic hammock (described in paragraph 7.2), that is:

  • Loop.
  • Rafter tape, on a stopper or carabiner.

Sitting hammock in the form of a fabric chair on a tree

Separately, it is worth mentioning , that a seated hammock chair has recently entered modern fashion. This is a fashion accessory that can be used both at home and outdoors. Quite comfortable and provides a comfortable pastime in any conditions. It is not surprising that many have decided to take such a step as to collect G do-it-yourself amak chair.

Advantages and disadvantages

Like any type of hammock, this one also has its pros and cons, which you need to understand before you get to work.

Advantages:

  • Hammock chairs are very comfortable and comfortable, sitting in them relaxes the back.
  • This is a very original furniture that helps brighten up any environment.
  • Another positive factor will be exclusivity - few people have such a sitting hammock, also made by hand.

Flaws:

  • Fastenings must be selected taking into account large loads.
  • You can not hang it in any apartment (you need free space and capital ceilings).

Step by step master class

Let's sew a sitting hammock as in the photo below with our own hands.

First of all, we need to buy 14 * 2 = 28 eyelets for fasteners with a diameter of 12 mm. The price of a set of 30 pieces is up to 600 rubles.

We need a piece of white dense fabric, you can use cotton-based. Dimensions 2 x 600 mm by 1100 mm.

For suspension we use 8 mm nylon thread. Take 20 meters, it will cost about 350 rubles. We will also take 2 meters of a stronger rope 14 mm (or we can take more than 8 mm, and then weave it).
Also don't forget 30-40mm carabiners or hanging rings. You will need 3 pieces.
We sew two pieces of fabric for a hammock so that the base of the structure is more dense.

We mark at a distance of 87 mm between the centers of the holes for the eyelets, as shown in the drawing. Retreat from the edges by 5 mm. Next, we drill holes.
The next step is to take a rope of 8 mm and cut it in two copies in the following sizes:
1 piece - 400 mm
1 piece - 500 mm
1 piece - 600 mm
1 piece - 700 mm
1 piece - 800 mm
1 piece - 900 mm
1 piece - 1000 mm
7 pcs - 1075 mm
In total, 14 shares are obtained in total 12425 mm * 2 \u003d 24850 mm.
These parts of the rope will act as the chair's attachments to the hanging rings.
We also cut the thick rope into two parts of 750 mm each.
Further, everything is simple. We must thread the ends of each of the parts of the rope through the eyelets and tie in knots. More short ropes are located at the top of the seat. Longer - from the bottom in a row. On the reverse side, we fix the ropes on the rings for hanging on each side. To do this, they will need to be woven into one knot and properly tied. As you may have guessed, we made different sizes for the ropes on purpose - so that when hanging, a back and a seat are formed.

Now we take a wooden block 1000 mm long and 25 mm in diameter. If a heavier person will be in the chair, take a diameter of 35 mm. We need to drill 3 holes (shown with red arrows). Each of them is under a thick rope (black line in the diagram). The rope is pulled in the direction as shown in the figure through the bar and the ring. Two knots are also made so that the structure is fixed.

Next, we stretch two thick ropes along with the resulting design, weave in the middle and tie on the third ring. On this hammock is ready, it remains only to hang it!

How to hang a hammock

There are two main ways to hang such a chair: on a horizontal beam and on the ceiling.

Keep in mind that such fastenings can only be made to solid concrete ceilings. To hang a hammock on a balcony or loggia, it is better to use special pre-prepared mounts.

DIY jeans hammock - how to make

Jeans are very strong and dense material. If you have accumulated a large number of old pants, then, of course, you can dispose of them or throw them away, but it’s better to use them for good. Make a hammock out of them, for example.

For the construction, you will need the skills of owning a sewing machine to sew jeans together.

Stage 1. In total, to build a do-it-yourself jeans hammock, you will need 6 pairs of old pants. It is advisable to take the most dense and not particularly torn jeans.

Stage 2. The first step is to sew jeans. We sew all 6 so that we get 3 identically sewn pairs, as in the picture below.

Stage 3. Here you are required to sew all three pairs along the edges, as in the picture below. We think you already guessed what will happen next.

Stage 4. Now you need to sew all pairs of jeans for a hammock along the edges between each other: we sew the right edge of the first pair with the left edge of the second pair, we sew the right edge of the second pair with the left edge of the third pair. As a result, we get a fairly dense denim.

Stage 5. Through the loops on the jeans on each side we pass a strong rope with a minimum stretch, as indicated below. After we tie the rope into a knot and attach it to the carabiners. Next, we attach the resulting structure to the support posts, or to a tree, according to the principles that have already been described earlier in this article. Homemade hammock is ready - try it yourself!

Children's hammock for home

A hammock for a child does not have the same strength requirements as an adult. All the same, the child weighs several times lighter, which means that the load will not be so significant. So, in principle, a children's hammock for a home with your own hands can be made even from improvised materials.

We will need:

  • Clothesline with a diameter of 5 millimeters.
  • A piece of fabric 140 centimeters long and 180 centimeters wide.

How can the design be improved?

The hammock opens up a large number of opportunities for modernization and improvement. These improvements help to noticeably improve the comfort of the bed. And, most importantly, they solve many problems, such as the bright sun, or annoying midges.

Hammock with mosquito net

One of the most important modifications for people who love hiking with a hammock. Mosquito net can:

  • included in the purchase;
  • buy separately;
  • do it yourself.

If you buy a mosquito net for a hammock, then use our advice. Small patches with “ears” take root on the grid, which will work as additional braces. Next, you need to sew the mosquito net to one side of the hammock - from the long and narrow edge. On the other side, a zipper is sewn, face out. Now the hammock is protected from the attacks of harmful insects!

Choice of soft pillows

When choosing soft pillows for a hammock, you should always pay attention to several main factors:

  • Pillow texture. Will it be comfortable to lay on? The hammock dictates its terms according to the position of the body.
  • Rationality. Everything is very simple here - is it worth buying a very soft, large pillow, the purpose of which is hiking?
  • Materials. It is best to buy pillows simpler and more practical - all the same, a hammock is more designed for hiking activities than for saddling. If it is stationary - give free rein to your imagination!
  • Color. Choose pillows by color so that there is no dissonance when looking at them.

We paint the frame and decorate the hammock

The hammock has rather limited options regarding external decorations. The main decoration methods can be divided into:

  • Fringe. Many designs are richly decorated with it, and representatives of some indigenous tribes from Africa, Brazil and other southern countries began to fashion for them. For many centuries they decorate their beds with a variety of colorful threads and knots.
  • Macrame. It is often adapted to hang from the edge of the hammock.
  • Embroidery and patterns. Mesh hammocks can be decorated with embroidery, patterns and weaving from the mesh itself.

These are not the only ways in which you can decorate a hammock. You can also paint the frame in different colors. In the case of a stand, this is quite easy to do - remove the bed, put everything in a ventilated place, paint and wait until it dries.

If we are dealing with a frame of crossbars, then they will need to be pulled out of the structure first. And wait until dry.

Operation and safety rules

A home hammock also has its own safety equipment. It is based on the fact that the bed itself turns over very easily and can incur quite serious injuries, especially if a person falls on the back of his head.

The basic rules are:

  • The attachment points must be able to easily withstand the weight, which will be 2.5 times more than the weight of the person who is going to rest on the bed.
  • The place where the hammock is attached should not have a cutting edge, sharp edges.
  • The main attention should be paid to how a person sits on a hammock and how he gets off it.
  • Try to reduce the contact of the hammock with rainwater, especially for a long time.
  • If the device hangs at a height of more than 600 millimeters from the ground, you need to lay something soft to absorb some of the impact if it falls.

We hope that our tips will help you make a hammock with your own hands, and it will serve you faithfully for many years!

A hammock is the key to a great summer holiday in the country. How to make a hammock with your own hands, see here. And today we’ll talk about how to make a wooden hammock stand with your own hands.

For it is not enough just to make a hammock; you still need to take it somewhere. A wooden frame is the best option available to everyone. You can always buy it, or you can make it yourself. It will be cheaper, and the appearance of the finished rack will fit into your landscape design.

When you wake up to make a frame for a hammock with your own hands, pay attention to safety precautions! Especially if you have small children. Firstly, try to drown all kinds of nuts and bolts in the finished rack, and it is better to cut off the extra protruding threaded parts. Well, take care in general about the reliability of your hammock stand - choose thick boards and timber, and make the bottom part solid (so that the stand does not turn over).

Wooden hammock stand dimensional drawings

Let's start our selection of master classes by considering a simple drawing of a hammock stand.

In general, it is quite convenient to work with a tree, therefore, for those whose hands grow from where they need to, all drawings and ideas will be simple.

Hammock Stand Drawing No. 1

As you can see, the design is quite simple.

This wooden frame is made up of:

  • Bases - two beams in the center (in the photo under the letter "A") and legs that give the rack strength (in the drawing "D");
  • Bearing beams "B", which are attached between the lower bars. On their lower part there should be a cut at an angle of 45 ° - so they will be screwed with an inclination, which will significantly increase the space for hanging a hammock;
  • Thrust inserts are labeled "C" in the figure. On one side, a cut is made at an angle of 45 ° (this part will be connected to the carrier beam). And the second edge remains even, it is also fixed at a right angle between two boards at the base.
There is a bonus on the drawing - under the letter "E", this is a stand for an umbrella from the sun.

Of course, the garden umbrella stand is an addition that you can do without. But for sure there are those who will need it. After all, not everyone in the yard in the country or at home has trees or gazebos that create a shadow. And so it will be possible to hide from the scorching summer sun. In this case, you will need to add only one piece of timber to your frame, with a hole drilled in it for the umbrella handle.

In addition, for those who have free time and the issue of the sun is relevant, I advise you to look into our other selection: how to make a frame for a hammock with a canopy and a roof.

All dimensions are shown on the drawing. Of course, you can change them to your liking. And now a small master class with step by step photos.

The result is a beautiful wooden hammock frame that is comfortable and easy to move around.

If you doubt the reliability of this rack, just take a thicker beam. Of course, in this case, it will be difficult to move one finished frame around the garden plot. But there will be no doubts about its strength - and its carrying capacity will increase.

I found a video for you with a similar rack made of 100x100 timber.

Mounting studs cut:

  • The first into 4 parts of 25cm each - fastening the legs;
  • The second into 3 parts of 33cm each (+ cut off a piece of 33cm from the third) - intermediate connecting;
  • The remainder of the thirds goes to connect the struts diagonally with the supporting beams.
  • The author names all sizes in the video, so we look.
  • And here is another option for upgrading the original drawing.

    Under item No. 9, a cut of the upper part of the hammock carrier board is shown - this is an option for fixing the hammock without screws with a loop, eyebolt or anchor bolt. In general, for those who do not have them and do not want to buy.

    Please note: the connection of the carrier board with the thrust board was fixed with pieces of plywood on both sides.

    And another option for a wooden hammock stand. This time, mainly a medium-sized beam was used, and the thrust inserts were made of boards and placed on both sides (lower right corner in the photo).

    Do-it-yourself hammock frame drawing No. 2

    The second option is similar to the previous one, here we also make the base, but the mounting option for the load-bearing beams and struts changes. They change places, of course, and their angles of inclination change.

    For stability under lateral loads (swinging), it is necessary to add a cord / rope or metal cable to the finished wooden rack - in photo No. 6.

    Video example.

    Cool video tutorial with a double strut.

    By the way, the finished rack can be painted in some beautiful color. I painted my hammock frame blue, you can paint it your favorite color.

    This video review is for those who are afraid to mess with angles other than 45°.

    Above I presented to your attention an example of such stands made of timber. However, it can be easily assembled from the boards. See step by step photos.

    And of course the video - for a better understanding. In fact, such a stand can be easily assembled alone or with a little help from your wife.

    Yes, and little pranksters (who have) will always be happy to come to the rescue - especially for testing a finished hammock stand.

    Now let's look at some simplified examples. Bearing supports (those on which the hammock is hung) can be attached to the base perpendicularly, so on the stubborn boards you will make cuts of 45 ° (subject to the formation of an isosceles triangle).

    And by the way, for greater stability of the hammock stand, you can make not 2 legs, but four.

    In addition, the finished rack can be decorated with night lanterns. So you can enjoy the evening rest in a hammock.

    Or this option: the supporting boards are additionally interconnected, and the legs of the hammock are fixed to the ground. True, I am embarrassed by the pegs sticking out of the ground - I would not advise leaving them like that. If you really want to firmly attach the hammock to the ground, then do it with the help of reinforcement as shown in the upper part of the photo in the middle. Well, in general, of course, in this case, it is easier to concrete two beams and hang a hammock between them.

    The third version of the drawings of the stand for the hammock

    We have smoothly moved on to the next version of the wooden rack. I signed everything on the diagrams. It is assembled from boards.

    If you process the entire board - rounding the edges, etc. the result is pleasing to the eye.

    Simplified version.

    Therefore, the same principle can be used to make racks for a hammock from a bar.

    By the way, a cable or cord is also useful here to stabilize the rack.

    Their fixation near.

    If there is no cable, you can use boards by analogy.

    In fact, this technique is applicable to previous models of stands.

    Inspired by other people's ideas, you can come up with your own unique hammock stand.

    Here are some more interesting ideas for you.

    Hammock stand in the form of a frame, if you remove the hammock, children can use it as a football goal.

    And here is such an unusual option, you can take the trouble to make this beautiful stand in the child's room.

    Folding Wooden Hammock Stands

    Solid beautiful frames for hammocks are great, but there is not always a place to store them. The summer season will fly by quickly, and in our weather conditions, it is better to remove the wooden rack (so it will last much longer).

    Therefore, I bring to your attention a small selection of folding racks.

    The first rack, when assembled, looks like one of those that we examined above.

    However, it folds very conveniently, which allows you to save space in the yard and garage.

    I specially painted the boards in different colors so that it was clear how it works. I hope you understand.

    And here is a very simple version of a folding wooden rack for a children's hammock.

    A couple of helpful video examples.

    This interesting version of the stand is made of plywood, similar in structure to the stands from the previous videos.

    Do-it-yourself frame for a hammock from a bar

    All previous drawings are applicable to a bar, moreover, we gave examples of racks made from a bar there. However, I took out a couple of options separately, because they are fundamentally different from the previous coasters.

    Let's start with the most beautiful, in my opinion, frame. Look how amazing he is, and most importantly reliable. This stand will make a great addition to any garden.

    All parts are cut from a bar of the same diameter. In the photo, under paragraph 1, I signed the length of each piece from this rack. The edges on each cut are mirror cut at an angle of 45 degrees.

    In general, the work can be divided into two stages:

    1. Cut the timber into the necessary pieces, cut their corners;
    2. Proceed to assembly (with the help of screws we assemble all the pieces into a single structure).

    The result is simply excellent!

    The next type of racks is widely represented in stores, they can be bought without any problems.

    But if you want to make such a stand at home with your own hands, and you don’t have the opportunity to weld iron corners like in the video. Pay attention to the mounting brackets that are sold in hardware stores. With their help, you can assemble the rack just as well, and it will hardly hit your pocket.

    Combined version with drawings (from boards with building corners).

    And in the end, an extremely unusual stand for a hammock made of timber.

    Original bent wood frame

    And for dessert, one of the most chic: a bentwood hammock stand.

    I present to your attention a video lesson with the manufacture of such a round frame for a hammock.

    By the way, the stands for hanging chairs are made according to the same principle.

    And that's all I wish you successful experiments!

    The frame for a hammock will allow you to put it in any convenient place. Very often, if you need to hang such a bed in the place where you like, there are no suitable trees or other reliable supports, in such cases a hammock frame will always help you out.

    It is very convenient to use hanging hammocks, but the main disadvantage of using them is that it is not always possible to find a place to install them. You can use trees for this or bury 2 pillars, but in this case you get a stationary structure. In order to be able to install such a bed in any convenient place and take it with you on vacation, it is best to make a collapsible frame for it.

    There are 2 main types of hammock - fabric and wicker. If we talk about wicker models, then in their appearance they resemble a fishing net, and a thick rope is used to make them. In this case, the cells have a size of the order of 5-7 cm, located relative to the racks in rhombuses.

    Typically, the length of such a grid is within 2-2.5 m, and its width is about 1.5-3 m - it all depends on whether a particular product is designed for one or two people. At the edges, it has strong straps to which ropes are attached, and the resulting tourniquet at the end has a reliable ring or knot.

    If you want to make a fabric hammock with your own hands, then for this they take a single piece of durable fabric, it can be a tarpaulin or canvas. Opposite edges are assembled into a bundle and a rope is already attached to it, at the end of which there is a ring or loop.

    Having considered what types of hammocks there are, now it will be easier to understand what kind of hammock frame you need to make with your own hands so that it ensures its secure fastening. It is quite simple to make both a fabric and a wicker hammock with your own hands, but you can also purchase a finished product.

    The distance between the supports should be at least 4 m, this will provide sufficient tension for the hammock, while it will sag a little. A hammock mount is usually made at a height of approximately 1.5 m, so that a person can comfortably climb into it, but at the same time it will not sag to the ground.

    If you need a do-it-yourself hammock stand, then you need to take care of its high strength, reliability, and if a tree or a pole is used to fasten the structure, then their diameter should be more than 10 cm.

    There are also designs for sitting, in which case their size will be smaller than standard panels, the suspension is made from above. These designs are convenient to use in gazebos. If a single suspension is performed, then on such a bed you can swing like on a swing. 2 suspensions can be made on each side or 2 on one side and 1 on the other, in which case it will be inconvenient to swing, but this design will have maximum stability and reliability.

    The design and method of fastening will also depend on which frame for the hammock will be made with your own hands.

    Construction types

    For the manufacture of the frame, it is necessary to choose materials that have high strength in order to withstand not only the weight of a person, but also the stress that will occur during rocking.

    To do this, you can use a metal profile of a square or round section, a straight or curved wooden bar of the appropriate section. Usually take a bar with a section of 100x50 mm.

    The finished structure must withstand not only the vertical load that the weight of a person creates, but also the overturning load that will occur during landing in such a bed, as well as during rocking in it. Therefore, the supporting structure of a hammock with your own hands can be of the following types:

    • vertical frame.
    • horizontal supports, and the frame is already attached to them - such supports provide reliable strength and stability of the structure, and for this the width of the legs must be more than 1 m.

    A frame of this design can be made in the form of an arc, which in its appearance resembles a yoke or looks like an inverted bow. It can also be made in the form of a trapezoid, which, with its smaller base, stands on the ground, and the wide ends are directed upwards. For the manufacture of the first option, a bent beam or a metal profile is used. In the second case, straight pipes or bars are used.

    To ensure the normal stability of the frame, additional elements are used. To assemble the structure, you can use bolts, welding or self-tapping screws. If bolts are used, then in order for them to withstand heavy loads, lock nuts or spring washers must be installed.

    The hammock stand can be stationary or collapsible: it all depends on how you plan to use it. If in the yard or in the country you have a permanent place for a hammock, then you can make a stationary structure. In the event that you plan to carry it around the site or take it with you to nature, then it is better to make a collapsible structure.

    If you want to make such a bed with 2 mounts on each side, then you can create a structure in the form of a house, but then it will turn out more like a hanging bed, in which you will practically not be able to swing.

    If there is no shade from a tree on the site, then the scheme for creating such a structure should also provide for the creation of a roof.

    Using drawings to work

    If you decide to make a frame with your own hands, you can find ready-made drawings, according to which you can create a structure of the required size. You can independently develop drawings of this design, if you have enough knowledge for this.

    Most often, a do-it-yourself hammock stand is made of wood, since this material is simple and easy to work with. To create such a design, you will need a wooden beam and boards.

    You will need 2 beams measuring 1800x60x80mm, which are mounted at an angle of 45°C, and the hammock will be attached to them. Between themselves, these braces are connected with 2 boards 2000 × 40 × 80 mm, and in order for them not to move, the braces are fixed with 2 corner boards measuring 166 × 622 × 60 mm.

    After you connect all the elements, you will get a trapezoid-shaped design, which has a smaller base at the bottom. For frame stability, 2 paws measuring 1000 × 80 × 800 mm and thrust bearings measuring 80 × 150 × 25 mm are attached below. Eyebolts are installed on the braces, at a height of 1.4 m from the thrust bearing, to which the hammock will be attached.

    So that the structure can be quickly disassembled and assembled, all connections are made on M 10 bolts, in which case you can take it outdoors.

    There is nothing difficult in creating such a design. We considered the creation of a frame from wood, but according to the same principle, you can make a frame from a metal profile of a round or rectangular section.

    To ensure the maximum service life of a wooden frame, it must be treated with an antiseptic, and then coated with paint or varnish. If you cover it from the direct impact of negative natural factors, then this will significantly increase the service life of the structure. For the winter period, if your frame has a collapsible design, it is better to disassemble and hide it before the onset of heat.

    You can buy ready-made or make a hammock with your own hands. If you have basic skills in working with wood or metal, then you can create such a frame yourself, while spending minimal money and time, as a result of which you will get a strong, reliable and beautiful support for a hammock.
