How to keep wasps away from grapes. How to protect grapes from wasps and bees - the most effective methods. Acquired traps in early summer

How to save grapes from bees and wasps

Hi all! Although in a century Email ordinary paper letters and a rarity, but one of my acquaintances from the Urals, Olga often makes me happy with them.

In her last letter, she shared her joy that Last year turned out to be fruitful for grapes, which in their climate zone rarity.

Hot summer, heavy rains, that's just one problem - the wasps attacked the crop. In the same letter, Olya told how to save grapes from bees and wasps. This is what I want to tell you today.

How to protect grapes from wasps and bees

Although bees and wasps do not seem to be the worst pests for grapes, they can still spoil it badly. This is especially negative for those who grow grapes for sale.

After all, even a few bitten berries can lead to the fact that the bunch completely loses its presentation. And often insects act selectively, without eating the berries to the end, but simply starting to spoil them indiscriminately.

Such grapes can still be used to make wine, but they won’t fit for sale, and it will only be possible to store it for a short time. Therefore, it is critical to understand how to deal with insects so that they do not touch the clusters.

Possible approaches to protection

All approaches can be divided into two categories. The first is the physical destruction of insects - or at least their main part. Sometimes this is effective, but this approach has its drawbacks.

This is a less environmentally friendly option, in addition, although the same wasps harm the grapes, they also actively destroy aphids, caterpillars, grasshoppers and bedbugs, which can also cause damage to no less extent.

The second option may be a little more time consuming, but it is also safer for humans. Its essence is the creation of physical barriers for wasps and bees.

The principle is simple - if an insect cannot get to the grapes, then it will not be able to harm it. Therefore, if you are not afraid of somewhat increased labor costs, then it is best to prefer the considered option.

How can the physical destruction of insects be carried out?

Consider the options in general view, then we will move on to the specifics. The first option, which, although less recommended, is sometimes still suitable. The easiest way to deal with wasps is to destroy their nest if you know where it is. A similar situation will be with a hive of wild bees.

If the bees fly from your own apiary, then, of course, physical destruction, in principle, cannot come up. Moreover, bees generally rarely spoil grapes, so it’s more worth focusing on wasps.

If you don’t know where exactly the wasps are, you can make a trap for them from an ordinary plastic bottle by placing a specialized bait there. You can also buy ready-made traps, it's up to you.

On sale there are baits that contain poison inside. If you tactically place them throughout your household, then soon there will be no trace of wasps, although for larger areas this method may not be very suitable.

What is passive pest control?

If you do not want the winged pests to die, then there are several fairly convenient options. First, you can spray the clusters and bushes with a special chemical solution.

This method is very ambiguous. Although, on the one hand, it will help protect the crop, and even with high efficiency, but only then for any use of grapes for food or for putting them up for sale, you will certainly have to thoroughly wash them. If a chemical composition remains, this can lead to quite negative problems.

Another option is protective bags. This method is very reliable. You simply pack each individual bunch in a special net, after which the wasps and bees simply physically cannot get to your berries in any way.

Everything is very simple, everything is very effective, the only problem is that the labor costs here will be one of the highest, because if you have several bushes, then they can still be quickly packed into bags, but if we are talking about a hundred or even about a few dozen, then a lot of time will be spent. If you have a theoretical opportunity to do this, it's good, but the method is clearly not universal.

Trap device

They are easy to make yourself if you have the desire. You need to take a regular bottle, for example, lemonade. The top of the bottle must be cut off, turned over and placed in the bottom of the bottle.

The bait is poured into the latter. Usually it is fermented jam, beer with sugar added to it, kvass with the addition of bread or mash. But sweet syrup or honey solution should not be used, because otherwise it may turn out that beneficial bees will flock there.

Attention!

In general terms, the trap works like this - an insect penetrates through a narrowing neck, but cannot get out, because instincts tell it to take off exclusively along the walls.

As a result, most often insects simply drown. At the same time, if the alignment is especially successful, then up to a couple of hundred insects can climb into the bottle per day. To do this, you need to place them somewhere in particularly prominent places, for example, right among the vine rows. It is not worth skimping, the more of them there are in total, the better it will be possible to save the crop.

Grape protection bags

The use of pouches, as mentioned earlier, is quite optimal, but there are a few subtleties to consider. Often, amateur gardeners instead simply wrap grape bunches with ordinary stockings.

But this approach is rather harmful, because when growing, the berries begin to choke.

But the same thing begins to manifest itself in situations where the bag is not chosen in size. You need to take them with the expectation that there must be some kind of reserve so that the grapes do not burst, do not get damaged. Then everything will be fine.

What is the best way to destroy a nest?

It seems easy to destroy a nest once you've found it, but it's also important to do it right. You can burn the nest, but be very careful, because the fire can spread to all kinds of trees and other buildings.

If the nest is especially large, not enough, do not be shy to call the fire brigade. You can drown it - you need to take a stepladder, with the help of which a bucket of ordinary water is propped up, in which the wasp dwelling is placed.

Finally, you can place the nest in a solution bag pre-filled with the appropriate insecticide. But in the case of the latter method, you need to repeat the procedure several times; you will not be able to completely get rid of insects in one approach.

Alternatives to the above fighting options

There are a couple more alternative options. Firstly, it is liquid smoke, which is usually used in smokehouses - it processes the nearby soil. The method has an average efficiency. Ordinary homemade vinegar of whatever type works well. Unlike chemicals, it is very easy to clean.

In each individual case, different approaches will be more effective, so choose what is best for you. Try different types of options - and in the end you can stop at the most profitable and convenient for you.

How to deal with wasps on grapes

The root cause of the formation of a whole colony of yellow-black insects is a fertilized uterus. It is with the construction of her nest and the subsequent laying of eggs that the sharp increase in the colony in the spring is associated, when crops bloom in the gardens. A month later, about a dozen working individuals appear, and in mid-July, the growth in the number of wasps reaches its climax.

The offspring of striped pests initially feeds on protein food, destroying harmful caterpillars, any carrion. At the end of August, the replenishment of the colony with new insects is on the wane. The diet is changing.

Preference is given to sweet foods. A berry that has lost its integrity is not completely eaten by a wasp. Its remains are a nutrient medium for bees, flies, fungal cultures.

Often, wasps hiding in the pulp of the fruit cause serious injuries. A pest not noticed by a person, along with the fetus, enters the mouth. In case of damage to the oral cavity, the occurrence of a tumor, you must urgently contact a medical institution.

If the bite is outside, it will help baking soda. The affected area is treated with its solution, and then a cold compress is applied to remove the swelling.

Resist the pest: general principles

When asked what to do with wasps, the answer is to fight. This is not easy: spraying with insecticides is undesirable, because. fruit ripening and harvest time do not allow to maintain the necessary pause to mitigate the action of toxic substances.

With the invasion of wasps, when you urgently need to save the grapes, you can, nevertheless, sprinkle it with the composition: dilute chlorophos (50 g) in 10 liters of water. Other ways to save grapes from wasps include:

Destruction of wasp nests. It is there that the uterus, the main number of the colony, is located. The location of the shelter is monitored in the morning when the wasps fly out or before sunset when they return. Extermination is carried out with special insecticide preparations against wasps.

With the onset of darkness, the nest filled with insects from all sides, especially in the middle, is treated with chemicals. All parts of the body must be protected by protective clothing. The cuffs are firmly fixed. Head protected mosquito net. A lantern with red glass is used as a light source: wasps do not perceive red waves.

Quite often, striped insects feed on the juice of those berries that were previously pecked by birds - another “lovers” to feast on juicy fruits. It is the juice that attracts birds. To protect bunches of grapes from wasps and birds, a special protective mesh made of fine mesh is used. polymer material(cloths).

It is installed on the path of summer, protecting the bunches. If you disperse containers with water around the vineyard, then the birds will stop pecking at the berries, receiving life-giving moisture from the drinkers. This means that there will be no reason for the wasps to visit the vineyard when the fruits are ripening.

Protective caps

The most effective (the most time-consuming) is the "personal" protection of clusters. For this, special mesh bags are put on each to protect the grapes from wasps. In stores, they can be bought in different sizes, taking into account the weight of the brush.

In hand-made production, tulle of old curtains, gauze, even worn stockings, tights are used as material. Grono is completely isolated from the penetration of insects. To do this, the bag is tightly tied on top.

Smoke from a fire or "Liquid Smoke" for smoking products helps to drive away insects. The low-toxic drug Sochva is used as an artificial repeller. It retains the smell of smoke, settling on leaves and fruits.

Active protection of bunches

You can catch wasps on sweet bait. Where there is no shade, hang a plastic container into which you first pour fermented compote, sweet syrup or honey water. Crawling through the neck to smell inside, the wasps drown in the solution. The contents of the bottles are changed periodically. This is especially true in hot weather.

It is better to attract single queens into traps in early spring. This should be done without stopping catching from early spring days until autumn, until the entire crop is harvested, because. other migratory wasps, ready for fertilization, fly to the place of the caught insect.

Attention!

For catching there various models traps distributed through the trade network. But more often, gardeners are trying to solve the question of how to protect the grapes from wasps by making a trap with their own hands. This can be done using the same plastic containers.

In a 2 liter bottle, the upper cone-shaped part with a neck is cut off. In the prepared blank 50 mm above the bottom with a knitting needle, make holes with an awl so that air circulates. Make two opposite holes in the upper part of the container (for hanging the trap to a tree on a thread or wire).

A place is being set up for bait. It can be a glass shot (25 g) or another container fixed at the bottom. The bait is placed in it, and soapy water is poured to the bottom, which does not reach the crown of the container with the bait. The inverted cut-off part of the bottle in the form of a funnel is inserted into the trap.

It remains only to hang it in a place protected from the wind. Attracted by the smell of the contents of the bottle, the insect penetrates through the narrow neck. Trying to grab a heavy piece of prey, it is not held on takeoff and falls into a liquid soapy solution, from which it cannot get out.

Pieces of fish and meat are used as bait. The main thing is that the products are fresh. The smell of rotten wasp meat is not attractive. It needs to be changed periodically.

The soapy film on the surface of the water inside lowers the degree of surface tension, under their own weight the wasps drown. But this arrangement of wasp traps also requires time for periodic cleaning of the contents of the bottle, a constant change of priming.

Chemistry

Chemical preparations can be added to man-made traps so that the berries are not covered with a poisonous agent.

What to do if it is problematic to hang nets on a bunch of grapes from wasps, and you come to the dacha only on weekends? In this case, protect the grapes from wasps not only on own site, but neighbors can also use insecticides.

Just do not spray them, but add them to the bait. In this case, the solution should not smell like chemicals, scaring away wasps. When the berries are just filled with sweet juice, the same cut bottles are hung all over the vineyard.

Any pesticide from caterpillars is added to the bait. For better access to it, the donkey trap is equipped with bridges, along which they can freely reach the bait. The peculiarity of the method of destruction of insects is that they feast on a solution of contact-intestinal damage.

They fly away and then they die. As a result, the traps remain clean. It is only necessary to periodically add a poisoned mass to them or replace it with despised juicy fruits (apples, pears), pre-treated with chemicals.

If the grapes are damaged by wasps, then all the plants near the grape bushes can be sprinkled with the same composition. A sweet patina on the leaves attracts wasps, and then everything is as described above. Only with a nearby apiary can bees suffer.

How to protect grapes from wasps

In one of the social networks, I accidentally stumbled upon the question: How to protect grapes from wasps? Interested, I subscribed to the comments, wanting to know about possible interesting innovations in the fight against wasps. There were not many tips, mostly it was suggested to put brushes in tights or in mosquito nets ...

Friends, such techniques can be used if you have only a few brushes for the entire vineyard. What if you have hundreds of grapes? In addition, tights have a tight effect and ripe berries will simply be crushed, which will attract striped predators even more.

In addition, the wasp has rather powerful incisors-jaws and tights in contact with the berries will be easily bitten and the berry, as well as other ripe berries exuding aroma, will be spoiled. Let me give you one observation to prove it.

Racks grape arbors were made of water pipes. Holes were burned in the pipes with the help of welding, into which trellis wires were inserted. Since the holes turned out to be slightly larger than the diameter of the wire, the wasps easily penetrated into the cavities of the pipes and built their nests there.

Having bought plasticine, I covered up all the holes into which the wasps climbed. By evening, I was surprised to see neat round minks made in plasticine. The thickness of the plasticine layer was 4–5 mm. Those. if the wasp sees an obstacle, then it can easily destroy it, within acceptable limits, of course.

After waiting for darkness, when all the wasps were inside the pipes, all the holes were smeared again and, in the dark, the wasps could not gnaw their way out.

Wasps no longer build their nests in these pipes. But this was a tiny part of the habitats of insects. Having examined the rarely visited buildings (wood shed, coal warehouse, etc.), even in the shower, large wasp nests were discovered.

Well, there were no problems with the shower, because. it is made entirely of metal, metal carcass covered aluminum foil 0.5 mm thick. Wrapping tow on a metal rod, soaked it with kerosene, set it on fire and burned several nests. But in the woodshed and in the square, fire is strictly prohibited.

Therefore, I dissolved in 5 liters of water a contact preparation against the Colorado potato beetle, designed for 10 liters. those. double dose and treated all nests. The wasps that fell under the spray jet of the sprayer died within 1-2 minutes, and the nests, later, were removed and burned.

By the way, who is very afraid of these insects, there is a red light method (I haven’t tried it myself, but there is logic in this), a red photo lantern is taken and in the dark, illuminating the nest with a lantern, crush it wooden block or thick mittens along with adults. The wasp, allegedly, does not perceive red light as illuminating and darkness for her, and remains so and she does not see a person.

But, even having destroyed almost all the nests, we only temporarily protected our plants from wasps, new ones hatched in neighboring areas will fly in their place. Therefore, be sure to hang traps in the intended habitats of wasps. In spring and early summer, when there are no ripe fruits yet, wasps eat young leaves with pleasure. fruit trees and grapes.

Wasp trap

It has been noticed that wasps do not disdain fresh meat and do not disdain to taste beer, they even prefer it more than green leaves. But, not everyone can afford to use fresh meat and even the cheapest beer as bait. And therefore, it is better to use sweet juices, jam dissolved in water, etc.

I think that the described device of the trap will hardly be a novelty for anyone, but it will become useful information for beginner gardeners.

Attention!

To make a trap, a plastic bottle is taken, preferably with even walls, the neck is cut off in the form of a funnel, after which the resulting funnel must be inserted into a glass (bottom of the bottle).

In the upper part of the trap, two holes are made opposite each other (you need to pierce both the funnel and the glass at the same time), into which a wire or cord is threaded. In the walls of the trap, along the perimeter, several holes are pierced, but not lower than the level at which the bait will be poured. The holes are used to spread the aroma around the bait as soon as possible.

thick wire or welding electrode an S-shaped hook is made. With this hook, you can hang the trap almost anywhere (on the branches of fruit trees, in the vineyard).

With the help of such traps, it was possible to save 90-95% of the crop early varieties grapes. Traps must be regularly cleaned of dead insects, by the way, not only wasps fall into traps, but also grape flies, codling moth butterflies, etc. I changed the bait every week, tried beer, and juices and jams. The best bait it turned out to be beer, then raspberry jam and of course juices.

Juices and compote from jam quickly begin to ferment and it is this bait that attracts insects. The trap is made like a fishing vent and is considered the most effective in catching insects. If you keep bees, then juices and jams will have to be excluded, and for beer, bees are not particularly greedy.

From personal observations: last year I noticed that the wasps began to “beat” wine variety grapes "Bako". Well, since the wasps started to beat the grapes, then it's time to harvest, I thought, and decided to taste the grapes. But he immediately spat out the berry, it was sour and the grapes needed to hang for at least another ten days.

I drove the wasp off the berry and tasted the grapes - there was fermenting juice in the berry. So what happens - the wasp bites through the skin under ripe grapes, moreover, it selects almost ripe berries from the whole bunch, the juice in the berry begins to ferment, and after 2-3 days the wasps begin to consume the fermented juice.

At the same time, do not forget to break through the skin of a neighboring berry, and so on. As a result, there is practically nothing to harvest by the time the grapes ripen. Therefore, destroy wasp nests, hang traps and you will always have a harvest. This applies not only to grapes.

Another proven method

Syrup (very sweet fruit water) is being prepared. I usually make sweet liquid in 3's liter bottle from old jams or juices. For example, a half-liter jar of jam is put into a balloon and water is added up to three liters. If the bait is not very sweet, I add sugar. The main thing is that the resulting syrup should be fragrant. Juices do not need to be diluted with water.

You can make syrup from overripe fallen apricots, peaches, damaged raspberries, plums, pears or apples.

Then, I take a tablet of the Iskra insecticide, break it into four parts and dissolve one part in three liters of the resulting liquid, you can first dissolve it in a small amount of water. The calculation is this: one tablet is designed for 10 liters of water, and I have 3 liters, which means that 1/4 of the tablet is enough.

The resulting solution should not immediately kill the wasp. The whole point is that the wasp can bring this syrup to the nest and feed the offspring, as well as show other individuals the location of the feeder.

Any insecticide can be used, but odorless or almost odorless. For feeders - baits, it is best to use trays, such as photo trays. Now grocery stores are full of similar plastic dishes. These containers sell cakes, cookies, etc.

You need to pour the bait in small quantities. I pour enough so that the liquid covers the bottom. I install in the aisles of the vineyard so that the bath is most of the time in the sun (not in the shade).

I put something under one edge of the bath to form a dry place so that more insects can find a place to eat the bait more conveniently. Although, even without tilting the bath, the wasps eat the syrup, but in this case, many insects fall into the liquid, and this is not desirable. Above I said why. The wasp must fly to the nest.

Remember to regularly replenish the feeders with prepared syrup. Here is a simple way that can significantly reduce the number of wasps on your site. Yes, I almost forgot. Baits - feeders should be placed not when the grapes are already pouring, but much earlier, before the young offspring fly out. I usually put in late spring - early summer.

Anticipating a possible question about bees, I’ll say right away that I have never seen a single bee flying to the feeder.

How best to protect grapes from wasps

More and more summer residents are planting vineyards on their plots. The question of how to protect grapes from wasps becomes relevant already at the first harvest, since insects can cause significant damage to it.

There are several ways to deal with wasps. It will be more difficult to protect the grape harvest from insects for the owners of large vineyards. Most of the means for warding off "uninvited guests" have nothing to do with the chemical processing of grapes and can only be used on not large plots.

On extensive plantations, insecticides have to be used, which are harmful not only to wasps. However, chemical treatment of the vineyard is often the only solution to the problem. True, it is not necessary to talk about an environmentally friendly grape harvest in this case.

In areas with a small number of vines, it is much easier to get rid of pests without the use of agents harmful to other animals and humans. You can save grapes from wasps:

  • by building traps for them;
  • repelling insects;
  • depriving them of access to ripening berries;
  • destroying wasp nests.

Destruction of wasp nests

It is advisable to use this method of dealing with wasps on grapes only if the habitats of insects are known and it is possible to get to them. The destruction of nests is an event fraught with a "conflict" with the inhabitants of the colonies, so you should prepare for it as best as possible.

Particular attention should be paid to equipment that does not leave any part of the body naked. The face is covered with a mesh (gas mask, shield).

Destroy a hornet's nest early in the morning while the insects are sleeping.
Nests should be destroyed late in the evening or early in the morning when the wasp colony is dormant. The nest is sprayed with an insecticide (Get, Dichlorvos, Karbofos, Fufanon, etc.). It is better to burn the nests treated with preparations afterwards. They are collected in a resealable container ¼ hour after processing.

Since the chemical treatment is carried out in conditions of minimal light, the grower may be tempted to use a flashlight. This should not be done. For lighting, you need to use devices equipped with a red light filter. Wasps will not react to such light.

In another method of destroying colonies, chemicals are not used. In this case, the nests are treated with boiling water.

Attention!

Insects like to arrange nests in attics, in sheds, under sheds. They can organize colonies in steel pipes, in the hollows of trees and even in the ground.

Therefore, the owner of the site must carefully inspect all possible nesting sites of insects in order to prevent a problem. It is most effective to destroy wasp colonies in the spring, when they are not yet sufficiently developed.

How to scare away insects

You can protect grapes from wasps by scaring away insects. You can drive wasps out of their nesting sites by fumigating the colonies with smoke. Quite often wasps leave these territories. Or try hanging bunches of red hot peppers near wasp nests. Some gardeners believe that its smell has a deterrent effect on wasps.

The soil under the vineyard is treated with liquid smoke: this smell is also unpleasant for insects. However, repelling insects is a method with questionable effectiveness. It can be used as part of a pest control package.

Net cluster protection

How to protect grapes from wasps if there are no wasp nests on the site, and insects still destroy clusters? In this case, you need to use another way to deal with wasps on grapes - to deprive them of access to berries.

Sometimes growers use a fine mesh net to cover the entire vineyard with it. This operation is usually carried out at the beginning of the ripening of the crop. The net protects the bunches from both wasps and birds.

Some vineyard owners do otherwise, placing either each bunch or several bunches at once in mesh bags. The process is laborious, so it is hardly applicable for large vineyards. Protective cases can be made from any mesh material (tulle, gauze, nylon from tights), which can provide air access to the berries.

Otherwise, the bunches will start to rot. In addition, there should be some space between the bag and the brush so that the insects, sitting on the net, cannot reach the berries. Before putting on a cover on a bunch, it is better to remove the leaves near it.

Using traps

Effective protection of grapes from wasps - placed and suspended traps with bait that attract pests. Traps do not need to be purchased. They are easy to make with your own hands from simple PET bottles with a capacity of at least 1.5 liters.

At the bottle with a clerical knife or scissors, you need to cut off the upper conical part. The bait is placed in the container, then the dishes are covered with an inverted neck without a lid.

The bottle can be hung on a wire or attached to a trunk, vine, trellis, etc. Several holes can be made in the bottle above the level of the bait so that its smell spreads better. The diameter of the holes should be such that wasps cannot crawl through them.

The wasp attracted by the bait will climb into the funnel, but will not be able to fly out of the dish. Rare individuals manage to do this, but this can be eliminated by adding poison to the bait. In this capacity, a bura can act or boric acid.

The bait should not be made from sugar syrup, honey or jam, as it will also attract bees. For wasps, beer that has begun to ferment sweet juice, mash, is suitable. The smell of the insecticide "Otos" also attracts them.

Traps are best made from transparent bottles: wasps outside are more likely to fly into funnels if they see their “girlfriends” inside the containers. In addition, the transparent walls and ceiling of the trap completely disorientate the insects.

A grower who is concerned about the question of how to save grapes from wasps can choose any of the proposed methods to protect the crop. However, it is more expedient to solve the problem of protecting the vineyard from striped pests in a comprehensive manner.

Wasps are the main pest for the grape harvest during its ripening period. In a year favorable for the development of the wasp population, the number of this pest increases many times, and the wasps are capable of inflicting irreparable damage to the grape harvest in just a few days, up to its complete destruction.

The fight against wasps must begin long before the start of maturation of the bulk of the crop. It is best to carry out preventive measures to reduce the population of this striped pest throughout the season, regardless of visual evaluation their quantity.

Just because you don't see them doesn't mean they don't exist. It only says that their power source is on this moment out of your area of interest. But when your meeting occurs on ripening grapes, it will, alas, be too late, since it is practically impossible to drastically reduce the population that has grown during the season, it is much easier to keep it in a minimum number throughout the entire grape season.

Methods of control and protection of grapes from wasps

The whole difficulty in the fight against wasps lies in the fact that the timing of the mass destruction of the vineyard crop by these insects coincides with the partial or complete ripening of the berry and harvesting, which makes the use of insecticides and other chemicals. preparations for the destruction of harmful insects impossible. But do not despair, experienced growers have found ways to deal with the pest and reliably protect their crops. I will describe the most simple and effective methods protecting the vineyard from wasps:

Starting in early spring and throughout the season, it is necessary to examine the places of possible concentration of enemy forces, surveillance and other types of espionage of the enemy to the place of their permanent deployment are appropriate and welcome in every possible way.

If a nest is found, it must be destroyed. Preparation for the destruction of enemy manpower should take place in best traditions tactical and strategic assessment of the size of the enemy, the location of the deployment base, right choice time of day of attack and weapons of destruction. As in all operations for a surprise attack and destruction of the enemy, the dark time of the day is best, when all the wasps are in the nest (hive), their attention is weakened, the will to resist is suppressed, it is difficult to assess what is happening to them, in general they sleep stupidly.

An adult person with a strong nervous system, without special moral and ethical prejudices, is selected from the winegrower's family, well, in general, no one is sorry. My mother-in-law plays this role.

This subject receives equipment appropriate for the occasion - tight clothing covering all parts of the body, shoes, gloves. He puts on a beekeeper's hat on his head, if not, then an ordinary hat, and wraps his face in a towel.

Theoretically, just from the appearance of this combat unit, and even at night in the light of a lantern, the wasps should die, but to be sure, the destroyer is given a weapon of mass destruction - a dense plastic bag. The bag is tightly put on the nest and the hive is quickly removed by closing the bag. Everything, a hive with all the wasps in the package, the further destruction of the wasps that have awakened in it depends only on your imagination and ethical education.

Since the "Geneva Convention" does not apply to wasps, the application chemical weapons(for example, dichlorvos), burning alive and other types of sadistic entertainment are quite acceptable, as they say: "Winners are not judged."

If you tolerate bites well and run fast, you can try to release the wasps away from the vineyard, they will be very happy and will try to fully express their feelings of gratitude, love and affection to you.

  • Using wasp traps

There are purchased traps, but homemade traps made from ordinary plastic bottles are no worse. The upper part of the bottle is cut off, turned over and inserted into the lower part with the neck down and inward in the form of a funnel. Or they cut off the neck of one bottle and insert it into the cut of the side of another.

As a bait, solutions of water with sugar, jam, honey, fruits, beer and other products that attract the attention of wasps are used. Traps are hung on grape trellises in different points vineyard throughout the season, changing the contents from time to time.

To prepare the bait, they take the same honey, sugar, beer, grated fruits and mix them with an insecticide. It is desirable that the insecticide used does not have a strong smell repelling wasps.

The resulting bait is laid out in OPEN trays so that the poisoned insect can freely leave the feeding place and lead the rest of the adults to the "yummy" and bring the poison into the nest.

ATTENTION! Trays are exposed or hung high, out of reach of children and pets evenly around the entire perimeter of the vineyard. The method is very effective, but dangerous for bees and other beneficial insects. Use it only as a last resort for massive "invasions" of wasps, after flowering of all the main crops on the site.

  • Wasp nets

This is the most reliable, but the most expensive and laborious way to protect grapes from wasps. Vine growers buy or make bags themselves from thin mosquito nets or similar materials that have good ventilation and the ability to fast drying after rain (usually synthetic materials). Bags are put on each bunch individually, which significantly increases costs. manual labor in the vineyard, but at the same time 100% protects the bunch not only from insects, but also from birds.

As always, the most effective and reliable is the comprehensive protection of grapes from wasps, using several of the methods presented above.

How to protect ripe grapes from wasps and bees: folk and chemical methods, traps Wasps and bees can destroy the entire grape harvest in a few months. Such insects not only eat away the pulp of the crop, but are also carriers infectious diseases. The attacks of wasps and bees on the grape harvest can be observed annually, both in large areas and in small ones. Concerning this problem is very relevant today for every grower. In the article, we will consider ways to protect grapes from wasps and bees. Ways to protect grapes from insects In areas with a small number of vine bushes, insects are destroyed or repelled by various traps, devices and folk remedies. In large areas, it is often used as the main method of protection against insects through chemical treatment with drugs. Wasps and bees flock to the vineyard during the period of mass ripening. Insects are attracted to the vineyard by the aroma of ripe berries and their high sugar content. Wasps infect grapes gradually, at the first “meeting” with a berry, wasps bite through the thin skin of the berry, envelop the shell and pulp with saliva, which begins to sour and ferment within a few days. Many growers note that the process of eating pulp by wasps begins 2-3 days after the defeat of the berries. The main ways to protect the vineyard and control insects include: detection and removal of nests and hives; improvised traps; protective nets; smoking by folk methods; chemical processing. Read also the article: → “How to get rid of wasps in the country. Algorithm". Destruction of wasp nests in vineyards Elimination of nests is a dangerous event for humans, since wasps and bees have a highly developed self-preservation instinct. Moreover, in their colonies there is a hierarchical structure in which individuals are divided into scouts, miners and soldiers. The latter are focused on protecting the uterus and the home in general. Wasps belong to a rare category of insects that have a developed sense of revenge. Therefore, all actions related to the destruction of insect nests must be carried out in special clothing. Actions upon detection of wasp nests: Empty nests are removed and their location is treated with chemicals or covered with paint. The destruction of nests in which wasps live requires a different approach - plentifully fill the nests with kerosene, solvent, or the least toxic chemicals to humans by spraying. Most of the insects are smoked out of the "dwelling", and the nest is removed in last turn by any method - burned, immersed in boiling water. It is best to smoke with sulfur and other folk methods, which are described below. Small nests that are at the stage of settling a colony of wasps are destroyed with a vacuum cleaner. If the nests are located in the cavity of the trellis, then such places are best cemented or poured mounting foam. This method is useful for any similar hard-to-reach places for extracting aspen nests. It is worth remembering that wasps are vengeful insects, so you should definitely destroy the nests. They close the entrance cavities only if they are sure that the wasps will not get out of there in any other way. Scout wasps are annually looking for places to build a hornet's nest. These insects often return to the place where they lived last season. Therefore, it is necessary to start the fight against them from early spring, namely, to start searching for empty nests for their further elimination. Advice . Found empty nests are recommended to be burned, and the place where the nest was located should be treated with chemicals or painted over. Up to 1000 individuals can be placed in one nest Traps for the destruction of wasps and bees Traps are the most effective way to deal with bees and wasps, especially if it is difficult to find their hives and nests, it is also advisable to use this method if insects flock from neighboring areas. Such traps can be installed outside your site. The advantage of these traps is their ease of manufacture. Consider DIY traps: plastic bottle pour sugar syrup, jam or honey diluted with water. Make a hole in the bottle cap with a diameter of no more than 1 cm. Wasps and bees will flock to the bottle like nectar. Insects easily penetrate into the hole in the cap and remain in the bottle. Such traps quickly fill with various insects. crop upper part put fresh sweet pieces of fruit on the bottom of a plastic bottle and pour sugar syrup over. The cut off part of the bottle is set upside down. The traps are hung in the vineyard with wire. Such traps are also placed above the tables in summer kitchens and verandas. The optimal volume of such a trap is 2-5 liters, since several dozen wasps and bees fall in a day. For those who do not have the opportunity to prepare traps with their own hands, in specialty stores you can buy ready-made traps. Such traps are quite practical and have an affordable price. The useful life of the traps is 5-6 months Sticky tapes to neutralize insects An effective way to catch wasps and bees in small areas is special sticky tapes, which are placed in places with a large concentration of insects. Tapes have their advantages and disadvantages. Main advantages - low price, ease of use. The disadvantages are that beneficial insects also fall into such traps. Moreover, wasps quickly transmit information to other individuals of their own kind that this is a trap. Adhesive tapes for trapping wasps and bees can be created with my own hands. To do this, it is enough to prepare a small sheet of plywood, which is covered with a thin layer of glue. Pieces of sweet fruits are placed on the surface of the plywood. As a sticky mass, specialized substances are used that are used at home to catch mosquitoes and flies. The adhesive mass is applied in a thick layer, in which even a hornet will get stuck. The tapes are effective even for catching such large individuals as hornets Chemical preparations for the destruction of wasps and bees K chemical treatments applies mainly insecticidal preparations. In most cases, it effectively eliminates almost any type of insect. Fast-acting chemicals are used to kill adult wasps and hornets, as well as larvae. For baits, drugs are chosen that do not have a strong odor, otherwise the smell of the drug will overpower the smell of the bait. The drug must be safe both for the crop and for humans. Effective folk methods of insect control Folk methods belong to the category of methods that are characterized as the most effective and gentle, since toxic chemicals dangerous to human life are not used, and all methods are proven by many years of experience. Methods for the destruction of insects by smoking: Dry leaves of birch bark are placed in a bucket and set on fire. As soon as thick smoke appears, a bucket of smoking birch bark is placed under the hornet's nest. It is advisable to carry out the procedure for fumigating nests several times a day. They set fire to a small piece of plastic or any other object in the composition, which includes celluloids. They wait for the object to flare up, blow it out and put the “smokebox” in foil with 2-3 holes with tongs and place it next to the nest. Many such devices are hung at the level of a hornet's nest by means of double sided tape. Burning plastic objects give off very acrid dense smoke. Dry wormwood grass is used as a smoker, which is mixed 1: 1 with dry leaves. Smoking area with wasps smoke Advice. After smoking, the nests should be removed and burned, and the place where the nest was located should be treated with kerosene, solvent, dichlorvos. Recipes for making baits for traps Mix kvass or fermented jam with sugar syrup and add 2 tbsp to 1 liter of bait. l. any poison for insects. Such a mixture will destroy all insects that try the bait. 20 g of insecticidal preparations are added to the compote, for example, like the Delta Zone. Wasps and bees differ in that they can live together in the same colony and interact with each other through the transfer of information. Therefore, it is recommended to carry out frequent raids on the site in order to destroy aspen nests, as well as, as a preventive measure, smoke and process those places where wasp nests were once found. Grapes are a sweet, juicy berry that is loved not only by people. Unfortunately, grapes can be eaten by small species of birds and different insects, for example, wasps. These insects can ruin grapes in families.

If a nest is located next to the vineyard, then insects can spoil a fairly large amount of the crop.

How to protect grapes from wasps, birds and other pests? There are many ways to help save berries. About the features of the choice of method and technologies - later in the article.

Choosing the most appropriate way

There are quite a few ways to save the crop. Save the grapes homemade traps, pouches and other tricks. Each method is quite effective, but when choosing a method, you need to consider some factors.

All methods can be divided into five groups:

Each group should be considered in more detail and choose the most convenient option that will save the vineyards.

Destruction of wasp nests

This method involves the fight directly with the nests of wasps. The method will work if you know exactly where the nests are. In small areas, this is not difficult to do. But if the vineyards are large, or insect nests are in the neighborhood, this option will not work. It is also worth considering that a hundred wasp swarm can be very dangerous for humans.

If such a procedure is conceived, the main thing is to observe all precautions. Be sure to wear a protective suit made of dense fabric.

It is better to use special mittens and a mask that are used in beekeeping. The destruction of wasp nests is best done at night, although it is quite difficult and inconvenient.

The owners of the sites usually know where the nests of insects are located, so it will not be difficult to find them. But if the nest is not found, you can inspect:

  • space under the slate;
  • roof;
  • the space between the wall and the finishing material;
  • pipe cavities.

If the nest is found, it is worth choosing the option of destruction. Using a tight bag, the nest should be removed, wrapped in it and screwed tightly. It is important to carry out this procedure as quickly as possible.

If the nest large sizes or located in an inaccessible place and it is difficult to get rid of it on your own, it is better to contact specialists.

Traps

This method has many advantages. This does not imply cash costs, saves the vineyard without any treatments, and is safe for humans.

In the manufacture of the trap, an ordinary plastic bottle is used, in which the neck must be cut off (the upper third of the bottle). As treats for wasps that they would eat, you can use any fermented jam, kvass, beer with added sugar.

Important! In order not to lure the bees into traps, do not use honey or syrups.

Pour the selected treat into a cut container, and turn the cut neck over and put it inside. The neck should not come into contact with the liquid. There must be distance between them. Such traps can be placed near the vineyard, or hung on a support. If there are a lot of wasps and the area is quite large, traps can be placed near each bush. Wasps, falling into such traps, cannot get back. To destroy as many pests as possible, traps should be changed periodically.

Lures

With this method, treats are also used, but treated with an insecticide or boric acid.

Important! With this method, it is necessary to choose a product that does not have a strong odor, as the wasps will ignore the bait.

They also use fish, meat and lard - insects eat such baits well.

When using the bait, the wasps gnaw off a piece of the food used and carry it to the nest where they feed the larvae, thereby poisoning them.

If boric acid is used, it is taken from the calculation: for 10 parts of the bait, 1 part of the acid. Any open containers can act as dishes for bait. Plates, saucers, bowls, cut-off bottle bottoms and much more. Such baits need to be changed frequently so that the wasps eat continuously.

scare away

This method raises some doubts, but it is still used. If in the previous methods the impact occurred directly on the wasps, then in this it is necessary to process the vineyard itself. Chemical preparations are used for processing.

As for efficiency this method- it really works and allows you to save the crop from insects and birds.

But the downside is that without prior and thorough preparation, such grapes cannot be eaten.

Package

Quite an effective way, but, unfortunately, not everyone is comfortable. This method involves the packaging of the grapes themselves in bags of various materials.

This method is quite simple to implement, but if the vineyard is large, the process of packing each bunch will be long and troublesome.

Bags can be made from any material that is available. Old unnecessary tulle, pieces of agrofibre, nylon nets can serve as packaging. The size of the bag should be such that the clusters are spacious. Special nets are also sold, which serve for quite a long time and protect the clusters well.

Important! It is undesirable to make bags with gauze, as it tends to dry for a long time after rain.

Folk methods

When it comes to fighting wasps in a vineyard, all methods are good. If they do not harm either grapes or human health, they are worth a try.

Ordinary vinegar or wine can serve to scare away wasps. Its main advantage is that it is non-toxic and harmless to both humans and plants. In addition, it is easily washed off by rain. Wasps do not tolerate a strong and pungent vinegar smell, which can last up to several days.

It is important to spray the grapes with vinegar after every rain.

If the farm has smokehouses, grapes can be processed with liquid smoke. To do this, they cultivate the very soil under the vineyards. This product has a persistent odor that will long time scare away wasps

Harvest can be saved and protected different ways. Everyone chooses for himself a more acceptable and convenient method:

The fight against wasps in the vineyard is possible and it will definitely bring results.

The choice of method when protecting grapes from birds

If everything is clear with wasps and ways are found, slightly different methods are needed for birds. You can fight birds peacefully and at the same time effectively using one of the following methods:

All of the above methods are effective and can be convenient under various conditions. Often the choice of scaring method depends on the size of the vineyard. It is possible to use several methods at once, which will increase the reliability and efficiency of crop protection.

One of its pests, the wasp, loves to feast on the sweet nectar of ripe grapes. A small insect brings great damage to the crop. Spoils " appearance» ripe, ready-to-sell bunches. Grapes are eaten by wasps, making a puncture on the skin, sucking out the sweet nectar.

Wasp on grapes: stages of defeat

Attention! Often, wasps hiding in the pulp of the fruit cause serious injuries. A pest not noticed by a person, along with the fetus, enters the mouth. In case of damage to the oral cavity, the occurrence of a tumor, you must urgently contact a medical institution. If the bite is outside, then baking soda will help.

  • Destruction of wasp nests. The head is protected by a mosquito net. A lantern with red glass is used as a light source: wasps do not perceive red waves.
  • Quite often, striped insects feed on the juice of those berries that were previously pecked by birds - another "lovers" to feast on juicy fruits. It is the juice that attracts birds. To protect bunches of grapes from wasps and birds, a special protective mesh made of fine-meshed polymeric material (cloth) is used. It is installed on the path of summer, protecting the bunches. If you disperse containers with water around the vineyard, then the birds will stop pecking at the berries, receiving life-giving moisture from the drinkers. This means that there will be no reason for the wasps to visit the vineyard when the fruits are ripening.

  • The most effective (the most time-consuming) is the "personal" protection of clusters.
  • Smoke from a fire or "Liquid Smoke" for smoking products helps to drive away insects. The low-toxic drug Sochva is used as an artificial repeller. It retains the smell of smoke, settling on leaves and fruits.

Active protection of bunches of grapes: chemicals and traps

Types of traps

Fermenting juices and compotes - attract insects

  • You can catch wasps on sweet bait. Where there is no shade, hang a plastic container into which you first pour fermented compote, sweet syrup or honey water. Crawling through the neck to smell inside, the wasps drown in the solution. The contents of the bottles are changed periodically. This is especially true in hot weather.
  • It is better to attract single queens into traps in early spring. This should be done without stopping catching from early spring days until autumn, until the entire crop is harvested, because. other migratory wasps, ready for fertilization, fly to the place of the caught insect.
  • For catching, there are various models of traps distributed through the trading network. But more often, gardeners are trying to solve the question of how to protect the grapes from wasps by making a trap with their own hands. This can be done using the same plastic container.

Attention!

Chemistry

Chemical preparations can be added to man-made traps so that the berries are not covered with a poisonous agent

What to do if it is problematic to hang nets on a bunch of grapes from wasps, and you come to the dacha only on weekends? In this case, you can protect the grapes from wasps not only on your own plot, but also with your neighbors using insecticides.
