Plastic balcony doors: 16 questions on selection and maintenance

In this article I am going to answer a number of frequently asked questions, one way or another related to plastic balcony doors. I will allow myself to give a number of recommendations for choosing different door components and advice on its maintenance, repair and adjustment of fittings. In addition, the regulatory documentation according to which metal-plastic ones are produced will be affected.

So, let's go.

Regulatory Requirements

  1. Is there a separate GOST for plastic doors??

Yes, in March 2003, standard number 30970 - 2002 was introduced, regulating the production of door blocks from PVC profiles.

For the convenience of the reader, I will present here the key points of this document.

Based on filling, doors are divided into:

  • Glazed;
  • Blind (with opaque filling). As a rule, extruded polystyrene foam laminated with polyvinyl chloride is used as filling;
  • Light (glazed on top and solid on the bottom);

Structurally, the door can be:

  • Single-leaf (left or right) or double-leaf (including with different sizes of sashes);
  • With or without transom;
  • With a threshold (aluminum or made of PVC profile) and without a threshold;

Possible different options color version. Doors can be:

  • White or colored with color throughout;
  • Covered with decorative film;
  • With co-extrusion coating (when extruding a profile, the front surface is made of plastic of a different color);
  • Painted paintwork materials.

Left - white door with PVC painting throughout the entire volume, on the right - covered with decorative film.

Here are the basic requirements for vinyl profiles:

  • The profile must be reinforced with steel liners;
  • Corner joints are reinforced with additional metal elements;
  • The vertical and top crossbars of the box must be welded together;
  • Imposts can be fastened either by mechanical connections or by welding;
  • Metal thresholds are installed on mechanical connections.

Within the framework of the standard, the door leaf should not have an area of more than 2.5 m2 and weigh more than 80 kg.

Gaps no larger than 0.5 mm in metal-plastic structures are permissible provided they are filled with sealant.

Here are the minimum service life stipulated by GOST different elements door leaf:

MTBF must be at least 500,000 door closing-opening cycles.

Choice

Dimensions

  1. What are maximum dimensions single door?

The height of the canvas can reach 2.6 meters.

The significant mass of double-glazed windows is compensated by the installation of additional imposts (horizontal lintels). With a width of 70 cm and a height of 2 meters, the door glazing can be solid, without imposts.

A reasonable maximum width of the canvas is 90 centimeters. For widths greater than 70 cm, I strongly advise hanging the door on at least three hinges - two at the top and one at the bottom.

A budget solution for a wide opening is a 70 cm wide canvas and solid glazing for the remaining width.

Profiles

  1. Are metal-plastic profiles very different? different manufacturers according to its performance characteristics?

Branded from German manufacturers (Rehau, KBE) and are slightly more rigid due to the greater thickness of the galvanized profile inside the PVC frame. This is important for large glass areas and significant wind loads. For a small door to a balcony, you can use a profile from any manufacturer.

When metal-plastic windows just appeared on the Russian market, I heard several stories about Chinese profiles suddenly turning yellow in the bright light. However, recently appearing on Russian market Chinese products are of quite decent quality.

Accessories set

  1. The accessories can also be anything.?

No way. The difference between inexpensive Chinese and German or Austrian fittings is more than noticeable. Chinese kits are characterized by soft steel and, as a result, rapid wear of the edges of the handle and locking mechanisms.

I advise you to prefer products from the following manufacturers:

  • Siegenia;
  • Roto;
  • Winkhaus;

All metal-plastic doors in my house are equipped with Siegenia fittings. During three years of use, one door required minor adjustment; there were no breakdowns.

Pay attention to the presence of latches at the top and bottom of the door. The latch presses the door to the frame. Fittings without locks, which only hold the door closed with the lock tongue, will mean drafts in winter and noise from the balcony in summer.

In the photo there is a clamp that presses door leaf to the box.

Glazing

  1. Which double-glazed window is better to install in a balcony door??

In cold regions, triple-glazed windows made of ordinary 4-mm glass are most in demand. In the south of the country, where single-chamber (double) energy-saving double-glazed windows are in great demand.

Silver coating on one of the glasses acts as a mirror for the infrared part solar spectrum: in winter it reduces heat loss due to radiation, and in summer it prevents excessive heating of the apartment.

For an energy-saving double-glazed window it is important correct installation regarding indoors and outdoors. The outer and inner sides are marked at the factory with stickers, which are removed only when installing the double-glazed window.

Problems and solutions

Adjustment and simple repairs of plastic balcony doors are carried out mainly using the adjusting screws of the fittings. However, first I will describe a solution to several unrelated problems.

  1. How to remove and install double glazed windows?

You need to pry the beads securing it in the middle of their length with a knife or a thin steel spatula. Then the bead is pulled out completely from the latch. You can install it in place with light blows of a rubber mallet or hammer through a block. When installing a double-glazed window, use plastic inserts, which you will find between the glass and the profile, to align its position relative to the frame.

  1. How to open metal from the inside plastic door without handle?

Insert any object of suitable size (wide screwdriver, file, pliers) into the square groove of the fittings in the hole for the handle and turn it.

In addition, from the inside you can, if necessary, remove the double-glazed window or the seal at the bottom of the door. I described the procedure for dismantling the glazing beads in the paragraph above. When removing a double-glazed window, try not to separate the glass from each other: tightness guarantees the absence of dust, and in the case of energy-saving glass, it also ensures the safety of the reflective layer.

  1. How to open a balcony door from the outside if it is locked with a latch?

It all depends on the design of the lock and the type of fittings.

  • If the door closes only with a latch, it is enough to press the door away from the frame with a screwdriver and insert a metal ruler into the gap between them, pressing the lock tongue with it;

Sane manufacturers do not equip doors without a rotary handle on the balcony side with latches. Precisely because such a door is easy to slam when left on the balcony.

  • If the door is equipped with upper and lower latches, you can try to drill out the profile opposite the handle and turn it with pliers;
  • Finally, if the handle of the lock with clamps does not protrude beyond its body, you will have to sacrifice a double-glazed window or, which is much better, a plastic insert under the impost. The price of expanded polystyrene is lower than that of laminated glass.
  1. How to fix a door if cold drafts appear around its perimeter in winter?

Typically, a door will not close well in cold weather for one of two reasons:

  • The seal has lost its elasticity. If necessary, it changes completely; maintain the elasticity of the sealing rubber gasket on long time periodic (every six months) lubrication with castor oil will allow it;

  • The door locks are not in the winter position. In many fittings, their shells have an oval shape. By turning the lock 90 - 180 degrees, you can achieve a tighter press of the sash to the frame and the disappearance of drafts.
  1. How to lift a door if it is sagging under its own weight?

The screw for adjusting the distance between the bottom hinge and the sash is located directly under the hinge. To lift the bottom edge of the door farthest from the hinges, the screw usually needs to be screwed in clockwise.

In addition, instead of warping the door leaf, the entire door can be lifted on its hinges. To do this, there is another screw on the bottom hinge - on top.

  1. How to raise the sash even more if the bottom screw is completely unscrewed?

Many hardware kits have an adjustment mechanism in the top hinge. In our case, the adjustment comes down to reducing the distance from the hinge to the sash.

  1. How to tighten the adjusting screws if their heads do not have slots for a screwdriver?

A universal set of hex keys can be found at any bike shop. Hexagons are used when installing all the main components of a modern bicycle.

  1. What to do if your plastic door to the balcony does not close?

This usually happens in the summer. When heated, a PVC balcony door expands somewhat and begins to rub the frame or the mating parts of the clamps. Do-it-yourself repair involves tightening the upper and lower adjustment screws at the same time.

During the peak of winter cold, it is possible that the lock tongue will no longer reach the counterpart on the jamb. How to configure the door in this case? Turn out the adjusting screws, increasing the distance between both hinges and the sash.

  1. How to repair a plastic door to a balcony if it creaks?

Lubricate the hinges with regular oil. washing machines, WD-40 or any other lubricating oil. In extreme cases, even mining from the crankcase of your car or motorcycle will do.

  1. How to remove decorative plastic covers from hinges?

The lower one can be removed by simply lifting it up.

The covers on the top and middle (if any) hinges can be removed by prying them off with a screwdriver inserted into the narrow grooves at the top and bottom.

  1. How to disassemble fittings to replace handles?

The instructions are extremely simple:

  • Hook the decorative trim under the handle with your fingers and turn it 90 degrees;
  • Remove the two screws underneath;
  • Pull out the handle and insert the rod of the new handle into the square groove of the lock;
  • Tighten the mounting bolts;
  • Turn the decorative trim into working position.

Conclusion

In my article, I described the elimination of the most simple faults that do not require experience or special knowledge. You can learn more about repairing balcony door hardware by watching the video in this article. I look forward to your additions and comments. Good luck, comrades!

The balcony door protects from cold, heat and street noise. When it comes to an unglazed balcony, no one doubts its necessity. However, owners of glazed and high-quality windows sometimes refuse to install a balcony door, enlarging the room adjacent to the balcony. This is everyone’s business, but a balcony door becomes a necessity when it is important to protect the living space as much as possible from the negative influence of the external environment, or when the balcony is used as an office or recreation area. Moreover, if you pay due attention to the selection and design of a balcony door, it can be turned into an interior decoration. We understand materials, sizes, opening patterns, glazing methods and other points.

No. 1. Balcony door profile material

An indecently high supply of plastic doors may give the buyer the erroneous opinion that there is nothing else on the market. Undoubtedly, PVC doors have a number of advantages and today they are the best in terms of price-quality ratio, they are universal, but the market also offers alternative options. Among them are wooden, aluminum and glass doors. When choosing, you should base your choice not only on price and appearance, but also on how well this or that option will fit into the apartment and Will it be compatible with existing windows?

Plastic balcony doors

Let's start with the most popular option. In design and properties, a plastic balcony profile is not much different from a similar one, with which absolutely everyone is familiar. Such designs are made made of polyvinyl chloride (PVC) and reinforced with steel, so the profile is light and at the same time durable. The plastic profile is not a monolith, inside it is divided into several chambers, and the more there are, the best performance it will have in terms of heat and noise insulation. Durability and strength are determined plastic wall thickness: it is better to take class A structures with a thickness of external walls of 2.8 mm and internal walls of 2.5 mm.

To the advantages of plastic balcony doors let's include:

  • durability;
  • high level of tightness, heat and sound insulation;
  • fire safety;
  • ease of care;
  • appearance. The traditional and most popular profile color is white, but if such a design does not fit into the interior, you can use laminating films to give it any desired shade or texture. Often the plastic profile imitates the pattern of wood;
  • resistance to temperature fluctuations and humidity;
  • low price.

Cons:

  • plastic does not allow air to pass through. This is good in terms of retaining heat in the room, but bad in the sense that the exhaust air from the apartment will not pass through the structure, so you will need a well-functioning system;
  • Scratches that form on plastic are almost impossible to remove.

Experimental data indicate that plastic multi-chamber profiles are practically not inferior in terms of thermal insulation to a wooden analogue of the same thickness.

Wooden balcony doors

If the apartment has installed or residents value everything natural and environmentally friendly, then wooden doors– your option. Modern production managed to get rid of many problems characteristic of old wooden windows and doors. Today, solid wood is almost never used to make profiles - it has been replaced laminated veneer lumber, which practically does not respond to changes in humidity and temperature, which was achieved by the opposite direction of wood fibers in different layers. Pine and larch are usually used for production; the elements are joined with environmentally friendly water-repellent adhesives.

Advantages:

  • environmental friendliness and naturalness;
  • excellent appearance;
  • durability;
  • tightness;
  • excellent thermal insulation properties.

Cons:

Aluminum balcony doors

No. 7. Balcony door design

A balcony door is not only a way to protect yourself from the cold. With complete tightness and proper functionality, it must be aesthetically attractive, so as not only not to spoil, but also to decorate the interior of the apartment.

  • door shape. The most popular solution is the usual rectangular door, but you can experiment and make it arched, or make the entire balcony block along with the windows in the shape of an arch. You can go further and make the doorway even more fancy, but all this, of course, will require additional financial and time investments. Doors unusual shapes made from wood and aluminum profiles;
  • profile color. Considered standard white, lamination with imitation wood texture is catching up in popularity. But there are other options, because plastic profile You can give it any shade - it all depends on the features of the interior and your own desires. If the walls are painted in neutral light colors, then the profile can be bright and become the color accent of the room, however, it will need to be supported by other elements. For an interior, for example, a dark-colored profile with a metallic sheen is suitable;
  • decorative glass. Regular clear glass can be replaced with colorful or sandblasted glass. Such a solution will cost a lot, but it will transform the room and solve the problem not very much attractive looking from the window. A more budget-friendly alternative is to use self-adhesive films with imitation of stained glass or vinyl stickers;
  • curtains– the most popular decoration for a balcony door. Along with the decorative function, they also perform a purely functional one, therefore

The balcony door, which we use every day and which we hardly notice anymore, performs a lot of functions at once, and it depends on us how comfortable, airtight, durable and aesthetic it will be.

Having installed such products, you don’t have to worry about your well-being and the health of your loved ones. After all, they meet strict requirements and environmental standards. The finished PVC balcony door can be made in any color preferred by the customer. In the manufacture of structures, we use special RENOLIT PVC films. • Balcony doors made of plastic

Greetings to everyone who visited my page!

Today I propose to talk about such an important thing as a plastic balcony door. During my work, I realized that regarding what it should be, there are not even two similar opinions. Some people need it to be “clean and inexpensive.” Someone is looking for a special design, because whatever one may say, the balcony door is part of the room, and quite noticeable, so it needs to be “fitted” into the renovation. Others are primarily concerned with safety and keeping warm.

One of my customers insisted that when replacing a window they leave her the old wooden balcony door; it suited her quite well. I spent huge amount time and nerve cells to convince the client that this is not possible, otherwise all our work will go down the drain.

After that, I decided that it was time to give serious explanations about what kind of balcony doors there are, why they are good, why they are bad, how much they should cost, etc. I invite everyone who is interested to read this post!

What types of balcony doors are there?

In Russia, the entrance to a loggia or balcony is traditionally combined with a window. This entire bulky structure is called a “balcony block” and is installed in a single opening. It usually has standard sizes and shapes.

When communicating with customers, installers can use different definitions– balcony block or steam balcony. They mean the same thing: a window and a door adjacent to each other.

New materials appear, technologies change, but most modern balcony doors look almost the same as they did 50 years ago. They are made predominantly white, glazed top part. The lower one is made of sandwich panels - glued PVC boards, the space between which is filled with insulation. Most often polyurethane is used for these purposes.

Perhaps, The main difference between plastic doors and their wooden predecessors is the presence of a threshold. It is needed to make access to a balcony or loggia more convenient. Sometimes they refuse it. For example, in cases where the premises are being renovated or the construction of the house in which the balcony block is being installed has not yet been completed.

And yet the design idea regarding plastic doors does not stand still. Today you can order quite original options. For example, turn it upside down classic style and glaze the lower part. Such a door will look airy and light even though it will actually become heavier due to the additional double-glazed glass, which, regardless of quality, is always heavier than plastic.

Such a door will let more light into the room. However, there is some danger in using it. So, it will certainly open up a view of the loggia or balcony, so it is only suitable if these rooms are not used as a storage room. Otherwise, the opened view can create the effect of chaos in the room.

An interesting option is a balcony door with full glazing. It will fit perfectly into any interior, be it classic, modern, Provence, country or even fusion. In any case, it will give the room elegance, light and lightness. Besides, This solution visually increases the space of even small rooms, allowing the gaze to freely penetrate beyond its boundaries.

There is also a reverse option - balcony door made entirely of sandwich panels. Perhaps it would be appropriate where a balcony or loggia serves as a storage room. Such premises can really be hidden. But here sun rays Because of this, the room will become clearly smaller.

There is also a design option for which the name is assigned "French balcony" In this case, both the door and the window are made to the full height of the wall, from ceiling to floor. It's very brave and stylish option. However, if it is not included in the house design, then the implementation of this idea becomes much more complicated. You will have to not only enlarge the window opening, but also obtain permission to make such changes.

But the result will definitely please you: the room from which such an exit to the balcony is made will receive a lot of light and visually begin to look much larger than it actually is.

A plastic balcony door does not have to be pure white! If desired, it can be laminated with any film: red, yellow, blue, wood-look, polka dot, flower... The main thing is the client’s imagination!

You can also purchase a colored door made from a dyed material. The choice of colors will be smaller, but scratch resistance will appear.

Installation technology for PVC windows and balcony doors in the video:

Non-standard openings

Particularly noteworthy is the design of the balcony block installed in houses that in Russia are usually called “Stalin buildings”. Here it usually includes a double door. In addition, there will be a significant difference in centimeters, due to the fact that the ceilings in such houses are higher, and the size of the door will accordingly increase. Ultimately, all this will affect the price. As a person who has seen many window designs, I can say that it is worth it.

“Stalinist” balcony doors can be equipped with shutters different types. You can choose an option in which only one leaf will open, and the second one will always remain motionless. A slightly more expensive option is shtulpovye, or opening doors. They swing open completely, providing a wider passage and without creating obstacles in order to bring quite a lot to the balcony. big thing: sofa, table, etc.

The balcony block in Stalinka leaves the opportunity to “play” with the height of the door. The opening part can be made to cover the entire opening, or the top part can be left blank. Or opening, but separately from the main door. This will allow you to ventilate the room, leaving the passage to the balcony closed.

Since such a balcony window will be located quite high, modern designs provide for the use of a mechanism that will allow you to open and close it remotely, so that you do not have to constantly carry the stepladder.

As for design, all the same options are available in Stalinka buildings as in other standard types of houses. Here you can also install doors with full or partial glazing, it all depends on the interior, taste and needs of the owners.

What features should be considered when ordering PVC doors?

Before you place an order, you need to decide which door is right for you.: with partial or full glazing, do you need additional handles that will fix the closed position of the balcony door from the outside, what profile and fittings will suit your purposes, etc.

Then you need to move on to searching for a company, which will be ready to provide all the necessary materials. As a rule, they all have their own websites, which describe in detail what materials the company works with and what is within its area of competence.

Many people also post their price lists or even online calculators there, which will allow you to calculate the approximate cost of replacing a balcony block. It will be quite close to what you will have to spend, although the company will be able to make final calculations only after a visit by a surveyor, who will assess the exact dimensions, scope of work and, perhaps, advise using slightly different components than previously planned.

Modern balcony doors are often equipped with only one handle. There is no need to be afraid of this; she copes well with the task assigned to her. It locks the door securely, ensuring it fits snugly against the frame, and unlocks it easily.

After the sites have been studied and the first calls have been made to the window companies you like most, you need to collect feedback on the work of those who are ready to fulfill all your whims for reasonable money. To do this, you can also turn to the Internet. There are entire websites that publish independent reviews regarding certain goods and services. The necessary information can also be found on specialized forums.

About the types of plastic doors in the video:

Doors for terraces and insulated loggias

Separately, I would like to talk about one very interesting new product in the field of interior design. These are sliding doors. Of course, in ordinary interior small room they may look a little pretentious and out of place.

But they will add zest to the interior if they overlook:

  • an insulated, glazed loggia, actually turned into another small room;
  • insulated veranda in the cottage.

In both cases, the responsibility for retaining heat is removed from the balcony doors. They perform the function of ordinary interior doors, which means there is more scope for choosing a model.

Sliding doors can be either plastic or aluminum. The latter look especially airy, not taking up space, but, on the contrary, visually adding square meters to the room.

These doors are secured with a reliable latch.

Is plastic suitable for making balcony doors?

Modern plastic doors are best option for a loggia, balcony or terrace.

They are made from the same profile as the windows themselves and, accordingly, have the same set of advantages:

  • easily tolerate temperature changes;
  • indifferent to moisture;
  • maintain good appearance for a long time;
  • easy to use;
  • retain heat indoors;
  • protect from street noise;
  • durable;
  • environmentally friendly.

In addition they:

  • allow you to choose the most suitable way opening;
  • equipped with mosquito nets;
  • can be supplemented with external latches and child locks.

Another advantage of plastic structures is their lightness. When it comes to a window, this quality is not paramount. However, the dimensions of the balcony block significantly exceed the dimensions of the average window. Accordingly, they provide a completely different load, and the weight of the material takes on one of the most important meanings. They will not have a significant impact either on the structure of the entire house or on door frame and loops. So they will not sag over time.

What accessories are used?

As a rule, plastic doors do not require the installation of a separate lock or lever handles. Most often they are equipped with the same fittings as windows. At the same time, the quality of the fittings still plays a role big role than in the case of a window. Still, despite the lightness of the plastic, the structure with the door will weigh significantly more. Accordingly, the load on everything from handles to door hinges will increase.

Plastic balcony doors are more functional than their wooden or metal counterparts; they do not rot or rust, and their service life is very long. At the same time, they are much cheaper.

Balcony doors are also equipped with an additional middle clamp, which guarantees good tightness over the entire height of the door. It prevents cold air from entering the room.

The balcony porch and balcony latch serve the same purposes. They prevent warm air left the room when someone went out onto the balcony. Let's look at some accessories in a little more detail.

Balcony latch for temporarily closing the door

For those who go out onto the balcony quite often, a special balcony latch will make their life much easier. It is a small mechanism that allows you to close the door, but not close it hermetically. However, this will prevent the rapid release of heat from the room and eliminate the possibility of drafts.

A double-sided handle, unlike a balcony latch, will ensure that the balcony door is tightly closed. However, this option also has its drawbacks. Thus, caution should be exercised by those who live on the first and last floors of apartment buildings. Such a handle can help burglars enter the premises. When choosing this option, you should give preference to models that require a lock with a key. Although this option will not provide a 100% guarantee against hacking.

The balcony latch does not ensure a hermetically sealed door closure.

Mosquito net

According to a survey of customers of plastic balcony doors, exactly mosquito net is the most popular additional device. It is ordered by almost 80% of clients of companies involved in the installation of window structures. It does not matter where the house being furnished is located: in the center of a metropolis or outside the city, far from civilization.

In both cases, it copes with its functions equally well: it does not allow insects, as well as fluff and dirt, to enter the room. This is especially important for those who suffer from allergies. Although the cleanliness of the house and the lack annoying flies and mosquitoes - a great bonus for everyone.

If you wish, you can choose a slightly more expensive, but also noticeably more convenient option with a mesh made in the form of a door. It is also hinged and has a small handle for opening. This will make life much easier for those who often go out onto the loggia or balcony. In this case, you will not have to remove and then reinsert the frame on which the mesh is attached.

And the process of opening and closing the mesh door will take a split second, so even the most agile insects will not have time to enter the house.

Balcony door non-standard height or width requires special, reinforced fittings.

Door for an unglazed balcony

A plastic balcony door opening onto an unglazed balcony or loggia can also reliably protect against cold and noise. In this case, you should be prepared to pay a slightly higher amount for reliable materials.

First, you should pay attention to the profile. In the case of a “cold” balcony, you need to choose one that consists of several chambers.

Secondly, think about the quality of the glass unit. For glazed balcony Single-chamber window glass is quite enough; the role of the second chamber will be played by the balcony, even if antique wooden or metal frames and the most primitive glass were used to protect it. We will need something more reliable. Therefore, the choice should be made on two-chamber glass. Ideally, energy-saving. This way the house will be reliably protected from both bad weather and street noise.

Selecting the profile of a plastic balcony door

The reliability and practicality of a plastic balcony door largely depends on the profile. Today, the window construction market offers profiles from several manufacturers, all of which have their pros and cons. However, several manufacturers have traditionally enjoyed particular popularity in Russia.

Rehau profile

Characteristics of balcony doors Rehau similar to windows made from the same profile. Typically, window companies offer profiles for the manufacture of balcony doors. Rehau thickness 60 mm and 70 mm.

They can be equipped with different opening systems:

  • rotary;
  • tilt and turn;
  • swing

They allow the manufacture of structures consisting of one or more leaves, and also imply large number design solutions: they can easily be laminated with a film of various colors, as well as one imitating the surface of wood or other textures. Thus, you can get a door that fits perfectly into any interior.

The Rehau profile has good thermal insulation and sound insulation properties. It has long managed to establish itself in the climatic conditions of central Russia. It protects your home equally well from drafts, moisture, dust, and street noise. This is ensured by several sealing circuits. As a result, protected by windows and doors Rehau, housing is provided with the most comfortable living conditions.

Another advantage of this profile is its long service life. Rehau balcony doors still serve well those who were one of the first in our country to dare to replace wood with plastic. At the same time, all quality characteristics are fully preserved.

Long service life due to the company's high quality standards Rehau. They basically use quality materials, the most durable opening mechanisms and proven fittings. All this contributes to the efficient operation of the balcony door for many years.

At the same time, such a balcony door will look like new even after several decades of use.

This is due to the smooth surface, which has no cracks, nicks, etc. All this makes maintaining your balcony door as simple as possible. It is easily cleaned from any kind of contamination.

Modern Rehau systems are equipped with climate control. Thanks to this, air exchange occurs easily and unnoticed by others, and a comfortable microclimate is established in the room.

Balcony pairs made from the profile of this brand are equally well suited for premises of any purpose: retail, office, administrative buildings, as well as for housing. They will serve equally long and stably both in a city apartment and in a country house.

VEKA profile

This profile appeared on the Russian market of window structures a little later than its competitors. However, he quickly managed to win a large share. In Russia they loved it for its optimal price-quality ratio. This profile provides warmth, prevents noise penetration, and is absolutely easy to use. And at the same time it has affordable prices.

The most affordable product from this company’s line is the VEKA WHS profile system. It will cope perfectly with bad weather if you install the balcony block on glass loggia or balcony.

In other cases, you should pay attention to the VEKA EUROLINE system. In addition to the fact that it has excellent quality indicators for energy saving and noise absorption, it also boasts special elegant contours.

If the exit to the balcony comes from a room that requires a special warm atmosphere, for example, from a nursery, you can take a closer look at the six-chamber profile system VEKA ALPHALINE. It will ensure maximum possible preservation of warmth and silence.

Design options and their installation

A balcony door is, in essence, the same plastic window. Just a slightly different shape and size. The manufacturing and installation technologies are the same. As a rule, balcony doors are made from the same profile, using the same double-glazed windows and fittings.

But with a regular door, entrance or interior, a balcony door has a number of fundamental differences. The main thing is that the entrance to the balcony or loggia must be closed absolutely hermetically. Even the harshest iron door, which protects housing, cannot boast of such properties. Yes, in fact, no one expects this from her.

It turns out that the balcony door, although made to fence off the entrance to the balcony, has more functionality than windows. Everything stated below will only confirm this fact.

Opening patterns

Balcony doors can be opened in the same way as windows in several ways. H Most often they are produced as rotary or tilt-and-turn ones. And if everything is clear with the first mechanism, then with the second you have to face a puzzling question: why?

Indeed, why fold back the balcony door? The answer is banal: in order to ultimately reduce the cost of the entire ordered structure. A tilt-and-turn door makes it possible to make the entire window adjacent to it completely blind. If there is a need for ventilation, you can get by with a slightly open balcony.

Opening side

Traditionally, balcony doors open into the room.

The opposite option looks revolutionary for our country, although it has several rather significant advantages. For example, this method saves space in the room.

Probably, this method of opening a balcony door has already been appreciated by many, because the number of such orders is beginning to increase.

Let me warn you that not all companies today are ready to fulfill such an order. Although, in order not to lose a client, we are ready to find a way to please him. For example, as far as I know, many people simply unfold the balcony door during installation. Strictly speaking, this is an acceptable option, although when agreeing to this, the customer must be aware of the possible consequences.

And they are as follows. The beads that hold the glass unit in place are on the outside of the house. This will greatly simplify the task of any uninvited guests getting into your home, since removing the glass will not be difficult.

In this situation, there will also be window hinges on the street side. Therefore, even if the thief couldn’t handle the glazing beads, he will have a backup option: cutting off the hinges. Well, to make his task even easier, a double-sided handle will be installed on the window. No other solution will fit here with this method of solving the problem.

I will note one more problem: when installing a balcony door, on the contrary, you need to take into account the features of the opening. For example, a construction quarter can cancel out all these bold plans.

Construction companies may also offer to use a special external opening sash. This option is already better. At least all the glazing beads will be inside the room. Although it has no other advantages over the previous method.

You can only trust a window company that offers to use a special profile along with door shutters and hinges. Only in this case will proper protection of the premises be ensured.

Which double glazed window to choose

Double-glazed windows for everything balcony design you can use the same ones. Qualitative characteristics The glass used specifically on the door may not differ in any way from those inserted into the adjacent window.

Tips for choosing here can be universal. So, if you need maximum protection from cold and noise, you should choose a double-glazed window with at least two chambers. There are usually no heating devices under the balcony door, so it is always quite cold below. This may create some problems. For example, the glass will begin to fog up or mold will begin to appear on the slopes.

Threshold

Many window companies use the most ordinary window sill to make a threshold. There is nothing wrong with this; on the contrary, plastic is a warmer and more comfortable material than, for example, concrete. The plastic used here is quite strong, it can withstand quite a lot of weight, so that anyone, even the largest family member, can safely stand on it.

Is it true, this statement will only be true if the threshold is set correctly. Otherwise, voids may form under the window sill, which will cool the entire plastic construction, and over time they will completely bend.

Plastic thresholds do not disturb the composition of the balcony group. They can be made in the same color as all other elements. Or choose a shade that matches the floor or walls of the room.

The threshold under the balcony door can be made from a window sill. The main thing is that the material is durable, and that the installers follow the work procedure.

The modern window industry is ready to realize almost any client’s whim. This also applies to balcony blocks. Today they can have non-standard sizes, open the way the client wants, have the most original colors. And at the same time fulfill its main functions: maintaining a warm and calm atmosphere inside the house. So we can say with confidence: the time when people entered a balcony or loggia through wooden doors is irrevocably gone.
