How to attach a ceiling curtain rod: useful recommendations. How to hang a plastic ceiling cornice on a plasterboard base How to attach a ceiling cornice to a wall

Ceiling cornice is one of the modern design elements that can decorate a room in any style. In this article we will talk about the types of ceiling cornices, their purpose and methods of attaching this part to various surfaces, including suspended and suspended ceilings.

Why do you need a ceiling cornice?

This part has two purposes:

  • support any types of curtains;
  • harmoniously complement the interior.

Cornices differ in the number of rows of fastening elements on which curtains are hung, and the number of rows ranges from 1 to 4, which allows you to choose a cornice that is ideal for the interior and design of the room. In addition, cornices are distinguished by the material from which they are made. Most often they are made from:

  • aluminum;
  • steel;
  • plastic.

Another difference between cornices is their shape. Typically, cornices are made either rectangular or rounded, with the rounded elements being separate parts that are attached to the central part. Two methods are used to attach ceiling cornices:

  • to the ceiling;
  • to the wall.

Both methods are the same in terms of efficiency, so choose the one that is easier to implement. Moreover, the complexity of implementing any of the methods primarily depends on whether it was possible to prepare the wall or ceiling for attaching the cornice? If successful, then just screw the cornice to the appropriate fastenings, put it on decorative panel and hang the curtains. If not, then you will have to first choose a fastening method that is easier to implement, then prepare the ceiling and walls, and only then attach the cornice.

How the cornice works

Before you begin installing the cornice, you need to familiarize yourself with its structure. Usually it consists of a plastic, less often a metal tire with grooves for hooks. The ends of the tire are covered with plugs that prevent the hooks from jumping out of the tire. Some curtain rods are equipped decorative finishing, which is glued or snapped onto the tire. If the tire is different from rectangular shape, then it is assembled from the included elements. Some models of cornices are equipped with powerful steel or aluminum corners, which allow you to attach the cornice not to the ceiling, but to the wall.

When planning to install a ceiling cornice, you must first determine its length, maximum weight and number of curtains. The permissible weight of curtains and their quantity are indicated on the packaging of the curtain rod, as well as in the installation instructions or product passport. The length of the cornice depends on the type of curtains, because curtains moved to the edges should completely open the window.

Methods for attaching a cornice

There are a lot of ways to attach a ceiling cornice, but they all have one thing in common - the cornice is attached to a solid base. Such a base can be either a ceiling or a wall, or wooden blocks or metal frames fixed to these surfaces.

Attaching a ceiling cornice to a concrete or wood ceiling

Despite the difference in the material from which the ceiling is made, the sequence of actions when attaching the cornice is the same. The only difference is in the method of fixing the tire to the ceiling, which we will definitely tell you about. Here step by step order actions:

  1. Determine the length of the cornice.
  2. Mark the tire and cut it with a hacksaw, then clean the ends with a file.
  3. Determine the number of fastening elements (anchor bolts or screws) based on the strength of the ceiling. If the ceiling is strong, then for light curtains the distance between the screws or anchor bolts is 60–70 cm. If the ceiling is not strong, and also if you are going to hang heavy curtains, the distance between the fastening elements must be reduced to 20–50 cm. The less durable ceiling covering and the greater the load on the cornice, the smaller the distance should be.
  4. Drill holes in the tire for mounting to the ceiling. If you plan to hang several heavy curtains on the curtain rod, then the holes must be drilled not in the center of the tire, but so that two holes divide the width of the tire into three equal parts.
  5. Attach the tire to the ceiling and install it where it should be.
  6. Mark mounting holes on the ceiling that match the holes on the tire.
  7. Drill holes based on the diameter of the screws or anchor bolts. For anchors, it is necessary to drill holes whose diameter is equal to the diameter of the anchor, and for self-tapping screws 1.5–2 mm less than the diameter external thread.
  8. Place the tire in place, align the holes and secure it with self-tapping screws or anchor bolts.
  9. Insert the hooks into the tire, then put on the plugs and decorative elements.

Attaching the ceiling cornice to the wall

When for some reason it is impossible to fix the cornice on the ceiling, it is attached to the wall. For this work, in addition to the cornice itself, you will need steel or aluminum corners with a thickness of at least 5 millimeters, equipped with a stiffening rib on the bend, as well as bolts with a conical head and corresponding nuts. Here is the sequence of actions for attaching the ceiling cornice to the wall:

  1. Follow steps 1–4 of the previous list, but so that the bolts and nuts do not touch the path of movement of the hooks.
  2. Define optimal distance tires from the wall and select the corners of the appropriate length.
  3. Drill holes in the corners corresponding to the diameter of the bolts plus 1 mm. WITH reverse side countersink the holes so that the bolt with a conical head is flush with the angle. If the bolt protrudes, you will not be able to press the corners tightly to the ceiling. Some models of curtain rods are equipped with special strips, with the help of which the tire is attached to the corner. There is no need to drill holes on these curtain rods because they are already drilled at the factory.
  4. If there are no holes drilled on the second shelf of the corners, then drill them.
  5. Attach the curtain rod to the corners using bolts and nuts. You cannot use self-tapping screws for this, because the self-tapping screw will have to be screwed in from the back of the corner so that it goes through the corner and the tire.
  6. Place the resulting structure against the wall and ceiling in the same way as the cornice should stand.
  7. Mark the locations for the holes in the wall and drill them. The diameter of the holes must correspond to the diameter of the anchors.
  8. Place the structure against the wall and secure it with anchors.
  9. Install curtain hooks, side curtains and decorative elements.

Attaching a ceiling cornice to a plasterboard ceiling

Attachment to plasterboard ceiling you can only attach a cornice for light curtains, because the strength and bearing capacity drywall is small. To get around this limitation, it is necessary, even at the stage of creating a frame for the ceiling, to secure a strong wooden beam approx cross-section from 30x30 mm (for light curtains) to 50x100 for heavy curtains. To install a cornice to a plasterboard ceiling with a wooden block, proceed in the same way as to wooden ceiling using self-tapping screws. To install a cornice on an unreinforced ceiling, you must use special drywall anchors. These fasteners are called dowels or butterfly anchors. The technology for installing a cornice is the same as for a concrete ceiling.

Attaching a cornice to a suspended ceiling

The design of the stretch ceiling eliminates any mechanical influences, so there are two ways to attach the cornice:

  • to the wall;
  • to the mortgage installed during installation of the ceiling wooden block through metal or plastic rings embedded in the ceiling.

We have already described the fastening of the cornice to the wall in the corresponding section, and fastening to the embedded block is carried out using self-tapping screws in the following order:

  1. The cornice is cut to the required length and all parts must be filed with a file to completely remove burrs.
  2. All elements of the bus are assembled into one structure, applied to the ceiling and holes in the ceiling sheet are marked on it.
  3. All elements of the tire are drilled, and the diameter of the holes must be equal to the diameter of the external thread of the self-tapping screw.
  4. All elements of the bus are applied to the ceiling and holes are drilled in the embedded bar, the diameter of which is 1.5–2 mm less than the outer diameter of the thread.
  5. The cornice is applied to the ceiling and secured with self-tapping screws.
  6. Hooks are inserted into the cornice and all external elements are put on.

Attaching the cornice with glue

This method is used if it is necessary to attach a light cornice to strong, solid and smooth surfaces without painting, for example, to a suspended ceiling. The choice of adhesive is very important, which must match both the material of the eaves rail and ceiling decoration. Best results give “liquid nails” if they are correctly selected for the material of the ceiling covering and tires. To attach the ceiling cornice in this way, you need to do the following:

  1. Trim the cornice to the required length.
  2. Clean the joints and assemble the cornice.
  3. Place it on the ceiling and make sure that the bottom of the tire fits snugly against the ceiling covering. If there is a gap of at least 0.1 mm between the ceiling covering and the rail, it will not be possible to glue the cornice directly to the ceiling, so you will need to glue a thin plastic plate, which compensates for the gap.
  4. Clean the ceiling and cornice from dust and treat sandpaper and degrease with the product indicated on the glue package (if possible). The adhesive joint without degreasing will be 2–3 times weaker.
  5. Attach the cornice to the ceiling, install it in its place and apply markings that will be invisible after sticking the cornice and will help to position it correctly.
  6. Apply glue with a snake or mesh, then attach the cornice to the ceiling, orient it and press firmly over the entire area for 2-4 minutes.
  7. After the glue has completely polymerized (after 12–48 hours, depending on the brand and type, as indicated on the package), you can hang the curtains on the hooks.
  8. If the cornice cannot be glued directly to the ceiling, then first glue the transition plate, then wait for the glue to completely polymerize and glue the cornice.

  • 5 Summary
  • Finally, the renovation has come to an end and you can start decorating the rooms. For example, put furniture, install lamps, put a carpet on the floor and, of course, hang curtains. To do the latter, you need to have an idea of how to mount a ceiling cornice, because today fewer and fewer models are being produced that are mounted on the wall.

    If we talk about the advantages of these structures, we should highlight:

    • they look more harmonious;
    • with their help you attach the cornice to the ceiling;
    • ideal solution for apartments with ceiling heights of 2.5-2.6 meters;
    • As for curtains, they can withstand a lot of weight, not to mention tulle and curtains;
    • combine low cost and high quality;
    • despite the simplicity appearance, they can be covered with textiles.

    Material

    It is clear that in order to securely fasten the cornice to the ceiling, you will need to make it high-quality installation. But we must not forget that the tulle and curtains that will hang on it play an important role. After all, completely installed structure should not interfere with your use of the window.

    Therefore, it is worth placing the cornice 5 cm above the window so that the curtains do not go around the window sill and the radiator.

    If you have several rows of curtains hanging, then you will need to start measuring from the layer that is located closer to the window. Typically, the length of the cornice includes the length of the window plus 30-40 cm on the sides. You can adjust it taking into account the width, density and characteristics of the curtains.

    The length of the cornice should allow the window opening to be fully opened. open curtains, and if you have curtains made of thick fabric, then take a design with a longer length.

    When two windows are located side by side, the length of the cornice should cover their total length + 30 cm on the sides. The number of tracks in the cornice must correspond to the number of layers of fabric. For example, if you plan to hang tulle, curtains and lambrequins, then use a three-row ceiling cornice.

    To ensure that the windows open without problems, attach the cornice at a distance of 10 or 15 cm from the wall.

    Installation

    As a rule, ceiling cornices are made from PVC. This is a hollow structure that has several lines. Despite the fact that ceiling cornices can withstand a lot of weight, you still have to avoid experimenting with them by hanging curtains that are too heavy.

    As for the methods of fastening the cornice, the following are used:

    • special suspensions;
    • directly holes on the structure;
    • brackets.

    Marking and materials

    Now you can move on to how to attach the ceiling cornice.

    First, you have to mark the mounting locations on the ceiling. Considering the location of the structure relative to the center of the window and the wall, do not forget that the curtains should not be located closer than 5 cm to the window sill and window handles. To determine the fastening of the ceiling cornices relative to the window, determine the center of the structure, subtract the length of the window opening, attach the cornice to the wall and measure the same distance to the ends of the product.

    Taking into account the markings, attach brackets or a frame to the ceiling, and mark the holes for further fastening. Use a drill to drill appropriate holes in the ceiling. Their diameter and depth must correspond to the type of fasteners that come with the product.

    These are mainly self-tapping screws (screws), for which wooden (plastic) plugs are used.

    Moreover, plastic is now used more often because it is cheaper and easier to work with. The plugs are driven into the holes using a hammer. Next, self-tapping screws are used to install the cornice.

    If you are in doubt about the parts that should be used to fasten the cornices, then carefully read the instructions. The manufacturer clearly stipulates this for each specific product.

    In addition, you can use anchors with internal threads.

    This is especially true if you plan to place heavy curtains (curtains) on the ceiling cornices, which means you will have to securely and firmly attach the structure to the ceiling. To do this, the anchor is placed in an already drilled hole of the required diameter. When you hit the center punch, the anchor will wedge right there.

    Installation

    It remains to consider the options for attaching the cornice so that you can choose the one that best suits your situation. The fact is that there are 5 options for attaching ceiling cornices:

    1. On the holes. First, cut off the required length of the cornice if the model you purchased does not match the size of the window opening. To do this, mark the cut line with a square, and then cut off the excess part with a sharp construction (clerical) knife or a hacksaw. You can start assembling.

    If there are already holes on the structure, then simply make markings on the ceiling to drill holes. If they are not on the tire, then use a drill to make them yourself, using drills of different diameters. Moreover, for the front side, use a drill with a larger diameter, which corresponds to the size of the plastic plug.

    The pitch between the holes should be symmetrical along the length of the product and is determined by the weight of the curtains.

    Place a mark in the central hole and place the cornice the way it will hang. Using a hammer drill, drill one hole in the ceiling. It is better to use a limiter so that it is the required length.

    Insert the dowel into it and secure the cornice with one screw. After this, marking other holes, you methodically complete the fastening of the structure. And to ensure maximum reliability of the ceiling cornice, make holes in two rows.

    1. On the brackets. This option is even more simple, because there are already holes in the cornice for the ceiling. First, you will have to assemble the structure, then attach it to the ceiling and make marks. Using a hammer drill, you make holes in the surface of the ceiling, where you then place the dowels. All that remains is to attach the cornice to secure it with screws.

    On suspended ceiling. If you have a similar ceiling installed, then you can attach a ceiling cornice to it as follows:

    • To begin with, you make a base from a beam, which has the width and length of the product, but the thickness is 1-2 mm less than the distance from the ceiling and tension material.
    • Secure the beam with dowels to the ceiling. When attaching the cornice with self-tapping screws, you will have to attach rings to the material so as not to damage it.
    • All you have to do is tension the material and install the structure.

    In a room where a stretch ceiling has already been installed, the ceiling cornice must be secured to brackets that are already installed on the walls.

    3. On a plasterboard ceiling. In this case, it is better for you not to hang heavy curtains on the structure.

    It is worth giving preference to tulle, as well as a lighter ceiling cornice. Otherwise, even before installing the drywall, you will have to provide reinforcement to the structure, that is, attach mortgages in this place. And if at this moment you already have a cornice in your hands, then this will help you immediately take into account the thickness of the beam and the width of the mortgages.

    Instead of self-tapping screws and self-tapping screws, you will need special butterfly dowels. Their peculiarity is that they wedge with inside gypsum board. As for the load, they can withstand no more than 5 kg.

    1. On the wall. Fastening the cornice to the wall is used if during the renovation you did not provide for mounting the cornice on the ceiling surface. That is, you have to place it on the wall.

    You will use brackets for this. Under the ceiling you install a wooden beam, to which the structure will be installed. In the future, you will have to take care of its appropriate decoration.

    1. For glue. If you do not want to use a hammer drill or you simply don’t have one, then the cornice is secured using liquid nails. As written in the instructions, they can easily withstand a load of 80 kg/cm2.

    You again have to assemble the structure and clean the surface of the ceiling. For more secure fastening, remove the whitewash, old paint and others finishing materials. The ceiling must be smooth and primed, and the base of the ceiling cornice must be dry and free of grease.

    Apply liquid nails in the form of a snake onto the product, and then press it tightly to the ceiling. If you need to adjust the cornice, just move it, but do not tear it off the ceiling. The glue will set within 20 minutes, but will dry completely in 2-3 days.

    Bottom line

    Now you know how to attach the cornice to a wall or other surface, which will allow you to correctly install the cornice on any ceiling in the room.

    You are convinced that there is nothing complicated about this, especially if everything is thought out in advance. Additionally, you can take an assistant who will help you attach the structure. Good luck in your endeavors!

    If for strict classical and lush interiors in the Baroque style, hanging wooden cornices are more suitable, then for rooms with a modern modern design, plastic cornices attached to the ceiling will be an excellent choice.

    The good thing about a ceiling cornice is that it stands out less, thereby focusing attention on curtains and drapes, which can become a real decoration for any room.

    In addition, hanging a ceiling cornice is quite simple, and the strength of its fastening is very high. Having hung the ceiling cornice correctly, you can forget about it until the next renovation.

    Complete set of ceiling cornices and tools necessary for their installation

    When buying a ceiling cornice, you need to check the completeness of its configuration, the main element of which is the profiled plastic element itself. Its upper side is flat, and the lower side has one, two or three grooves with profiled edges, to which hooks are attached, used to secure curtains.

    The main profile is sold in sizes from 1.2 to 6 m in length. This allows you to create a cornice of any length, because it can either be sawed off or several elements put together. In addition, you can also buy rotating elements - 45 or 90 degree angles, thanks to which you can form different curly forms cornices and curtains from curtains.

    Scheme for attaching a ceiling cornice for curtains to the ceiling.

    Additional elements included in the kit may include special plugs that limit the movement of the hooks on which curtains are hung. In addition, in some cases, brackets for mounting to the wall may be needed, used when it is impossible to attach it to the ceiling. And finally, the kit may also include decorative elements such as self-adhesive tapes that can be hung on the front surface of the main profile.

    In order to properly hang the product itself, you need the simplest tools:

    • electric drill;
    • screws with dowels;
    • screwdriver or screwdriver;
    • pencil or marker;
    • hand saw for metal.

    How to hang a ceiling cornice correctly

    Hanging such a product is very simple, which is one of its main advantages. You just need to follow a simple step-by-step procedure.

    First of all, you need to decide on the layout of the cornice, on which the length of its main elements will depend. If it's just a straight line along the window, it's very simple. You need to measure the length and cut the profile to the required size with a hacksaw. When using rotating elements near walls, the corresponding distance from the wall must be taken into account. But it happens that curtains or curtains have to be hung not at the window, but in the middle of the room and not just in a straight line, but with turns and bends. In this case, a diagram is drawn up, the necessary elements are cut, and then each of them is mounted separately.

    If the purchased profile already has mounting holes, then they are used for fastening. If the cornice is sold without holes, then they are drilled with a drill, taking into account that the screw head subsequently firmly holds the profile along with the entire mass of the curtains. These holes will not be noticeable after complete installation products, so there is no need to make them too distant from each other. On average, the distance between them should be about half a meter.

    Next, you should attach the profile to the place where you plan to hang it, and using a pencil or marker, mark the places where you need to drill holes for screwing in screws. After that, using a drill, holes are drilled in the ceiling, and plastic dowels are inserted into them.

    Having again placed the profile in place of the fastener, screw in all the screws one by one. Flexibility plastic product is quite large, and it should not break or burst, but it is still better to support it and not suddenly let go of the part that has not yet been screwed on. This warning applies primarily to those who carry out the installation process alone. After the main profile is screwed, the rotating elements are attached to the ceiling in the same way, if necessary.

    By running curtain hooks along special internal longitudinal holders, you can, if necessary, limit their movement with special plugs and limiters. The last element of the work is decorative gluing of the plastic cornice with self-adhesive tape, which can be made to resemble wood or any other color scheme, selected depending on the overall interior of the room.

    After all the work on installing the cornice has been completed, you can hang curtains and curtains. The hooks on the ceiling cornices are quite convenient, and the curtains are attached to them quite simply, and the guide grooves are made in such a way that the curtains slide very easily and smoothly.

    Thanks to the curtains on the cornice attached to the ceiling, the room appears higher. This is especially important for low rooms. This design solution gives the interior a special sophistication. But before attaching the cornice to the ceiling, you should decide how many rows of drapes and curtains you want to hang: the choice of the design of the cornice strip and the method of attaching it depend on this.

    Choosing a ceiling cornice

    Ceiling cornices are made of wood, plastic, aluminum and metal. Plastic models Designed for light curtains and drapes. If your curtains are too heavy or you want to hang more than two rows of curtains on the ceiling (for example, curtains, blinds and lambrequins), it is better to choose an aluminum model. For very massive curtains, it is more advisable to buy a durable wooden, steel or forged model.

    The most common cornice designs are:

    • round (rod-shaped), allowing you to place only one row of curtains;
    • telescopic - the same round, but with the ability to change the length;
    • bus bars - with one or more parallel gutters, allowing you to fix from one to four rows of curtains in them;
    • strings - are a combination of several tightly stretched metal or plastic strings.

    Standard one-, two-, three- and four-level ceiling cornices are available for sale. Buy a curtain rod with the number of levels corresponding to the number of rows of curtains. If your room has two windows located on adjacent walls, a tire with a rotating insert will suit you, allowing you to decorate two windows located on perpendicular planes with the same curtains. The same option is good for bedrooms, where curtains can be used to decorate the window and the window at the same time.

    The length of the cornice strip or rod must be greater than the width window opening at least 60–80 cm. This length allows you to completely open the curtains and drapes so that you can open the window without hindrance. In the case of very lush curtains, it makes sense to increase the length of the curtain rod by 20–30 centimeters. Maximum length limited only by your design imagination: no one forbids you to purchase a curtain rod the length of the entire wall or even with a rotating insert - for two walls. If standard models too short, you need to buy connecting elements.

    You need to think in advance about how you will camouflage the curtain hooks. For this purpose, either a special tape or a piece of foam plastic is usually used. ceiling plinth, which is glued directly onto. Round wooden curtain rods, which are mounted on pendants or brackets, are often varnished and decorated with elegant carvings, so they do not need to be covered. To the most expensive wooden models Attached is a carved rail made of noble wood.

    Attaching the ceiling cornice

    Ceiling cornices are attached in one of three ways:

    • on brackets;
    • on pendants;
    • dowels with self-tapping screws.

    The type of fastening depends on both the design of the cornice and the material of the ceiling.

    Attaching a ceiling cornice to a concrete ceiling

    First, we should mark the place where we are going to attach our cornice. It should be located parallel to the window, at a distance of at least 5–10 cm from its most protruding part: the handle or the window sill. This is done so that the curtain does not tear if it gets caught on any sharp protrusion or radiator. To be more sure, you can even draw a dotted line on the ceiling, strictly parallel to the window. You need to project the middle of the window onto it and make a mark.

    If you purchased a tire rack, it most likely already has mounting holes. If there are no such holes, they must be drilled. The heavier the curtains, the denser the holes should be. For wide (three- and four-row) tires, it is recommended to drill holes in two rows. Then, at the marked point on the ceiling, use a Pobedit drill to make a hole, and insert a dowel into it. The middle of the eaves rail is attached with a dowel-nail, after which marks are made on the ceiling with a pencil corresponding to the mounting holes on the rail. Holes are drilled at the marked points and the cornice is secured using dowel nails.

    In much the same way, curtain rods are attached to hangers or brackets. If the ceiling is wooden, you can use self-tapping screws instead of dowel nails.

    Attaching a ceiling cornice to a plasterboard ceiling

    • A thick wooden beam is attached to the real ceiling. It is better to do this before calling a measuring consultant from the company that will install the ceiling. As a last resort, you can explain to the measurer where you plan to hang the curtains. When installing a stretch ceiling, craftsmen additionally glue and compact the fabric in the area of the beam. Now you can safely attach the cornice strip or brackets to the beam without fear that the stretch ceiling will burst;
    • The boundary of the stretch ceiling is installed not along the wall, but along a wooden beam nailed to the place where it is planned to install the cornice. As a result, a niche is formed between the edge of the stretch ceiling and the wall, into which the cornice strip. For added beauty, you can lay an LED strip along the edge of the niche.

    Video about what types of ceiling cornices there are and options for their fastening:

    A tastefully selected and correctly installed ceiling cornice can become a real decoration of the room. If you first think about the design and choose the right way to attach the cornice to the ceiling, the room will acquire a sophisticated and cozy look for a long time.

    The completion of any renovation is the inclusion of textiles in the interior. And, first of all, curtains that are hung on curtain rods. The most popular now are ceiling products, invisible under the canvases.

    However, not everyone knows how to attach a ceiling cornice. The solution is to call a specialist. But, if you have the necessary set of tools, you can actually cope with this task yourself.

    Classification and advantages of ceiling products

    Why use ceiling curtain rods? First of all, they provide the opportunity to secure curtains under the ceiling. This allows you to visually increase the size small rooms with low ceilings.

    In general, they are divided depending on several factors:

    According to the material of manufacture:

    • Wooden – made of wood, they fit organically into a classic interior.

    • Metal, with increased strength, ideally emphasizing the modern style of the premises.

    • Plastic. Their main advantages are lightness and low cost.

    By mounting options:

    • Through special holes where retaining elements are inserted.
    • On hangers or brackets.

    Depending on the profile design:

    • Single row - only one strip for curtains.
    • Multi-row (two-, three-, four-row) have several tracks, which makes it possible to create an original multi-layer design including tulle, curtains, and lambrequins.

    Important! When purchasing any curtain clip, important attention should be paid to the material from which it is made. Thus, under the weight of the curtains, the plastic cornice can be deformed, so for such textiles it is better to choose a metal base.

    The length of the product is calculated by measuring the width of the window and adding 40 cm to the resulting value. When positioning window openings in a row, 30 cm is added.

    Important! The distance from the fixed object to the wall should be enough for the curtains to hang freely in the room without touching the window sill and radiators.

    Before attaching it, you need to mark it. Use a pencil or construction marker to determine the locations of the fastenings, placing dots in the right place. After this, use a hacksaw for cutting metal to saw off the strip to the required length. Place plastic plugs on the ends.

    In the middle of the product you need to drill holes for screws. In this case, choose drills of two different diameters. One corresponding to the head of the screw, the other thinner - for the screw itself. The average distance between screws is 60 cm. If you plan to hang heavy curtains, this can be reduced.

    Using a hammer drill, punch a hole for the dowel through the mark that was previously placed in the middle and a hole in the eaves rail. Next, the plank is applied horizontally to the ceiling surface and leveled with a level. Places for screwing in screws are made through the remaining holes. In the middle part, the cornice is attached to the surface with dowels.

    If the ceiling is made of wood, then fixing the ceiling cornice will be much easier. It is necessary to correctly mark the fastening points and fasten the tire with self-tapping screws.

    In this case, the procedure will be slightly different:

    1. First you need to make a base from timber, which has the same length and width as the attached cornices. The thickness of the beam should be 3-5 mm less than the distance between the suspended ceiling and the rough ceiling surface.
    2. Using dowels, secure the timber to the ceiling. First install rings on the material into which the screws will be screwed.
    3. The material is stretched and the cornices are attached to the ceiling.

    If the ceiling is suspended, a hidden cornice is suitable for it. In this case, the suspended ceiling must be secured not from the wall surface, but from a beam pre-installed in the ceiling. The cornice will be attached to the base of the beam with dowel nails. This way, there is no need to embed rings on the material, and the curtains will completely cover the bar.

    Important! If a suspended ceiling was previously installed in the room, then the cornice is attached to the ceiling using brackets installed on the walls.

    The correct decision will be when, even during the installation of the ceiling, a wooden beam is installed underneath it, intended for the future cornice. Therefore, when the suspended ceiling is made, all that remains is to simply screw the product to the beam using self-tapping screws.

    The cornice is attached to anchors - “butterflies”.

    But there are situations when it is not possible to secure the product using the method described above. For example:

    1. It was not possible to secure the timber in advance.
    2. When installing the timber, mistakes were made, and the screws do not reach the wooden base.

    How to attach the ceiling cornice in this case? It is necessary to use special fastenings:

    • Butterfly dowel. Such products, after being screwed into drywall, open up, ensuring reliable fastening.
    • Dowel umbrella. It works on the principle of the first fastener, opening in the shape of an umbrella.
    • Anchor bolts. Best suited for hanging heavy drapery curtains from the ceiling.

    If it is not possible to attach the cornice to the ceiling, mounting it to the wall using brackets helps. The method is the simplest, since there is no possibility of fixing large quantity holding elements.

    • First, the parts must be assembled into a common structure.
    • The tire is applied to the wall surface and points for fasteners are marked with a pencil.
    • Using a puncher, holes are punched at the points where dowels are subsequently installed.
    • The product is fixed to the wall with self-tapping screws.

    Thus, the problem of how to attach a cornice made of any material to a ceiling or wall in any way has been solved.
