Wooden chair - the rules of creation, design and stages of work. How to make various armchairs with your own hands From a chair to make an armchair

All children deserve a cozy place they can call "their own", whether it's for lounging, watching cartoons or reading. Even something as small as a comfortable seat can be one.

And while you can choose absolutely any chair in the store, wouldn't you like to make it as unique as your child? Try to make a baby easy chair yourself.

By building something with your own hands, you will get exactly what you would like, as well as save money.

by the most simple option there will be a pear chair, or a bean bag chair. Simplicity, perhaps, lies in the fact that this model is frameless.

Some online tutorial videos can be intimidating in their complexity. But don't worry. Two pieces of fabric, a zipper, a little machine stitching with straight stitches - and a charming baby bean bag is ready.

Necessary materials:

  • two pieces of fabric (upholstery fabric is preferred - it is more durable);
  • zipper 60 cm long;
  • filler (the amount will depend on the type of material).

For seam allowances, leave 1.5-2 cm.

Progress:

  1. Cut out two pieces of fabric 107 × 82 cm. The cuts can be identical or different colors.
  2. Fold the fabric right sides. Sew the long raw edges with a zigzag stitch. This is how you prevent wear. Then sew the same edges with a straight seam. It is advisable to use a short stitch length, which will also add density to the product.
  3. Fold the fabric in half (horizontally).
  4. Starting from the folded side, round off the ends by trimming about 15 centimeters from the corner.
  5. Turn the fabric right side out. It turned out a symmetrical rounded bend on one side. You have a rough edge again. Work it with a zigzag stitch, and then sew with a straight line.
  6. Open the raw edge. Fold the right sides together, but now in such a way that the seam between the two pieces of fabric faces up.
  7. Sew the zipper into the hole. You can use invisible lightning, it will be almost invisible.
  8. Close the edge of the fastener with straight stitches on both sides.
  9. Turn the finished cover right side out and fill with filler.

Frame chair

What does it consist of:

  • chipboard;
  • plywood;
  • foam rubber;
  • special glue;
  • upholstery fabric.

Tools:

  • self-tapping screws.

Progress:

  1. Cut the chipboard sheets in a semicircle - this is your basis. Using self-tapping screws, attach three bars (40 cm each) at an angle of 90 °.
  2. From plywood, cut out the front pillars. Their width should be half the length of the semicircular part. The length is equal to the length of the bars.
  3. Attach all parts to the bars with a drill and self-tapping screws.
  4. Attach foam rubber to the frame.
  5. Sheathe the finished fittings with a cloth.

For covering, you can also use a leather substitute, which is very convenient for children's furniture. This upholstery is easy to care for.

Wheelchair from tires

A great idea on how to put into use the plywood scraps and worn tires left after the repair.

What you need:

  • 2 tires;
  • plywood;
  • foam rubber;
  • upholstery fabric.

Tools:

  • self-tapping screws;
  • furniture stapler.

Progress:

  1. Install tires one by one.
  2. Fasten together with large self-tapping screws.
  3. Be sure to cover the bottom tire with felt so as not to damage the floor in the future.
  4. Make a plywood back. Give it the desired shape. Also attach it with screws.
  5. Choose a denser foam for the inside of the seat. Cut out the circle and fill the tire with it. Then cut out a larger circle to cover the top of the seat. You can use thinner foam.
  6. Sheathe the back with foam rubber using a furniture stapler.
  7. Cover the chair with upholstery fabric.

Instead of upholstery, you can sew a cute quilted cover. The child will appreciate!

Unfortunately, sometimes it is difficult to navigate the size and quantity of materials if you use leftovers. Try to create your own unique model.

First, evaluate your resources: what materials and tools do you have at your disposal? Is there enough? Get down to drawings! Don't worry if the materials available to you are a bit out of the ordinary. By connecting imagination and enthusiasm, a chair for a child can be made from anything.

What is upholstered children's furniture made of? Yes from everything:

  • Styrofoam;
  • thick cardboard;
  • old furniture pillows;
  • foam rubber without the use of a frame;
  • remnants of laminate or parquet;
  • mounting foam;
  • plastic bottles and much more.

Involve your child - he will give you a thousand ideas. Make your chair soft and comfortable. Choose from fun prints that you think fit with the personality of your favorite little person. This will be an unforgettable gift not only for the holiday, but just like that.

Creating the interior of his apartment, each person not only seeks to make it multifunctional, but also to bring a piece of individuality. Therefore, the furniture that makes up the interior should be as original as possible. Nowadays, designers have developed completely new forms of furniture that can decorate a home and go well with many styles. So, for example, unusual round armchair can be placed in a nursery, living room or country house.

Image 1. Pattern of a frameless chair.

If we talk about a frameless chair or an armchair in the form of a round bag, it can rightfully be recognized as the best product option for a child's room. The main advantages of the bag are soft, comfortable, easy to take the shape of the body. In addition, such furniture is very safe: even if a child falls on it, the likelihood of injury is excluded.

Domestic stores offer big choice similar chairs, shaped not only as a round bag, but also as pears and eggs, but the cost of such a product is sometimes very high.

There is nothing complicated in the design of this product, and if desired, you can do frameless chair with your own hands.

Materials and tools

First of all, it is necessary to determine the form and color solution furniture. It is desirable that the color of the fabric of the chair is combined with the interior of the apartment. But if you are sewing a bag for a children's room, then the children's theme should be decisive here. You can choose a fabric with stripes, polka dots, flowers, with the image of fabulous and movie characters, the main thing is that it be bright and cheerful. If you plan to install bags in the living room, you can give them the color of the wallpaper or another upholstered furniture.

When the choice is made, prepare everything you need to create one or more chairs:

The round frameless chair is completely safe furniture, so it is suitable even for small children.

  1. A roll of graph paper (scale-coordinate paper for creating drawings).
  2. Durable fabric for the inner filler bag. It can be inexpensive satin, water-repellent polyester, fabric for mattresses or tailoring workwear. The amount of material depends on the size of the future piece of furniture. So, a bag with a height of about 1.2 m and a diameter of 0.9 m will require for its manufacture 2.5 m of material with a width of at least 1.15 m. But such a large chair will also withstand a weight of up to 100 kg. To make a larger bag, you will need to purchase about 3 m of fabric.
  3. Fabric for sewing the outer cover. The amount of material is similar to that needed for the manufacture of the inner cover. In this case, you can use fabrics such as velor, jacquard, flock, tapestry, faux fur and suede, chenille and others furniture materials. According to experts, flock is the most suitable for a children's room. It is very pleasant to the touch, does not irritate children's skin, does not fade in the sun and has water-repellent properties.
  4. 2 zippers 30-100 cm in size depending on the size of the furniture. On the inner cover, a zipper is necessary in order to add filler, which will lose shape over time. The outer cover has a zipper for easy removal for washing and cleaning. If desired, the zipper can be replaced with a durable Velcro.
  5. Pencil for drawing patterns.
  6. Ruler from 1 m long.
  7. Tailor's chalk.
  8. Scissors, pins, needles.
  9. Reinforced or other strong threads that allow you to make reliable, strong seams.
  10. Bag filler. There are many options for filling these chairs. It can be: straw or hay, rice or buckwheat husks, cotton wool, synthetic winterizer or scraps of fabrics. All these fillers have many disadvantages and are quite expensive. Best Option expanded polystyrene is considered to be filled, produced in the form of balls with a diameter of 0.5 to 1 cm. Balls of a smaller diameter will make the furniture too heavy, and large ones will be unevenly distributed inside the cover, due to which the bag will lose comfort. For a chair of the indicated size, 1.5 kg of polystyrene foam will be required, that is, about 250-300 liters. Try to buy quality material, better imported.

Stages of creation

All work begins with drawing a pattern on prepared graph paper. Pattern elements should look like this and have the specified dimensions: image 1.

If a do-it-yourself armchair is made for a children's room, it can be sewn in smaller sizes. To do this, all the details of the pattern must be reduced in proportion to each other. In the same way, it is possible to increase the size of the future piece of furniture.

Then the details of the pattern are cut out and transferred to the fabric. To do this, you need to lay out the material on a flat surface and attach a pattern to it with the help of tailor's pins. All details are outlined along the contour with chalk or a bar of soap. Then the patterns are removed, and the material is cut in such a way that 1.5 cm is left around the contours for the allowance. As a result of cutting, 9 parts should be obtained: 6 side wedges, 2 parts for the bottom, 1 upper part. A similar procedure must be done with the material for the outer cover. It must be cut according to the same patterns and get the same number of parts.

Then all the details should be outlined. They are fastened together with pins and sewn with a basting seam by hand. At the same stage, it is necessary to make a basting of lightning. They are sewn between the wedges, from the bottom to the top. After basting, you need to flash all the details with reinforced threads using sewing machine. At the end of the work, the basting should be removed. In order for the seams to be as strong as possible, and the furniture to serve for a long time, you can apply another line next to the first one or use an overlock for finishing.

After the covers are sewn, you need to turn them on the front side. There comes a very crucial moment - filling the inner bag with polystyrene foam. This material tends to become electrified and scatter from the slightest movement, so it is recommended to remove children and animals from the room so that the balls do not accidentally enter their respiratory tract. Prepare a vacuum cleaner in case you need to collect scattered balls.

Styrofoam can be filled through a paper funnel, a large plastic bottle with a cut bottom, or garden watering can. At the same time, it is necessary to fill the inner cover by no more than 2/3 of its part, so that the furniture has the ability to adapt to the person sitting. The last stage of work is to put the outer cover on the inner bag filled with polystyrene foam.

If the process of creating a frameless round chair is successful, you can sew more big item furniture, namely a bag-ball or a frameless sofa.

egg shaped product

Another piece of furniture that is hard not to call original is egg-shaped. Such armchairs were invented a long time ago, but they are still considered a fashionable and modern addition to the interior. Them, like frameless furniture, can be successfully produced with my own hands. The process requires some skill, so experts recommend first making small items for children or pets. If the result is successful, you can start making chairs for adults.

Stages of creation

The basis of this round piece of furniture will be papier-mâché, which must be made as follows:

  1. On the fitness ball, visually determine the line of the central section. Then stick a strip of adhesive tape along it with a slight offset. This will be the papier-mâché border.
  2. Cut or tear the prepared newspapers into strips about 4 cm wide. It is not recommended to make strips that are too wide, as they can create uneven surface when pasting.
  3. Prepare a newspaper paste with 1 cup flour and 2 cups water. After mixing the ingredients, add a little salt to the container with the paste. This will eliminate the possibility of mold in the solution. The consistency of the resulting composition should resemble yogurt or low-fat sour cream. At first, prepare only 1 portion of the paste, do the rest as needed.
  4. Secure the fitness ball in a basin or large bowl to make it easier to stick newspapers on it.
  5. On each side of the paper strips, apply a layer of paste and paste over the ball with them within the boundaries outlined by the adhesive tape. First lay the strips parallel to each other. When the entire surface is pasted over, place the next layer of newspapers perpendicularly.
  6. When the entire ball is covered with a layer of paper, leave it to dry for about 12 hours. Then repeat pasting with strips from 6 (if the chair is intended for a cat or a medium-sized dog) to 10 or more times (if a child will use the chair) times. After applying each layer, the item should dry for about 12 hours.

While the product is drying, you can prepare the base. To do this, you need to mark a circle with a diameter of about 40 cm on a sheet of MDF, and then cut it out. A hole is drilled in the center of the circle, equal to the diameter of the nut for the threaded stud. The nut is inserted into the hole, the stud is screwed into it. A piece must be put on the hairpin plastic pipe. When changing the height of the pipe, the height of the finished product will be adjusted.

Lovers of carpentry are always wary of moving to upholstered furniture, and prefer to buy ready-made sets of sofas and armchairs, complementing them in style with tables and cabinets of their own making. There is a reason for this: firstly, for this you need to master related disciplines, such as cutting and sewing or knitting, and secondly, take care not only about the strength and appearance of the product, but also about the convenience of sitting or lying on it.

But, the attempt is not torture, for the sample you can make a modest joinery, using simple method foam upholstery or ready-made cushions for furniture. Chair making can become an exciting team hobby, friends or family members with a variety of applied skills can combine their talents and join in different stages creation of upholstered furniture. This will open up a lot of room for design decisions and material selection.

classic armchair

The manufacture of this small-sized chair consists of two main stages.

Preparing parts and assembling the frame

Especially carefully you need to work on the rear legs, to obtain a curved shape of which it is necessary to use a finished pattern and a jigsaw. The vertical part of the backrest and the rear seat support are attached to the rear legs.

The front legs are square section and can be made from glued rectangular bars. Their ends must also be narrowed with an electric jigsaw. Fasteners are made with self-tapping screws, for which it is necessary to pre-drill holes with a diameter less than one third.

Before installation, carpentry glue is applied to the surface of the joints. The seat rails are fixed in the corners with additional details, with edges cut at 45 degrees. For seating, you can use plywood or furniture fabric tapes.

At the last stage of assembly, the armrests and curly ears of the back are attached. The dimensions of the parts can be taken from ready-made drawings, or you can take a pattern from old disassembled chairs.

Upholstery

The back and the inside of the armrests are glued with textile furniture tape. The seat is covered with layers of foam rubber, synthetic winterizer and fabric, which should be 4-5 cm larger in size, due to which they will be bent in the front and attached at the bottom of the seat.

Then the upholstery of the armrests and back is done. To obtain a rounded shape, special grooves are made, after fixing, the extra pieces of foam rubber and padding polyester are carefully cut off. To master the skills of furniture upholstery, you will have to be patient and use video lessons.

Lattice chair with reclining seat

For the manufacture of a lattice structure, you need a beam with a section of 2.8, which is cut into strips of the same length of 50-60 cm, depending on the selected dimensions of the product.

The workpieces should have a perfectly flat surface, and you should also try to accurately mark the places for mounting them on the rack as accurately as possible.

For the manufacture of load-bearing structure- sidewalls, plywood 3 cm thick is used, from which the sides of the chair are cut according to the pattern. Then these two polished parts are connected to each other by bases, which are called drawers: at the bottom, at the top and at the level of the seat support.

Then, on this structure with self-tapping screws, it is necessary to fix the prepared bars with an interval of 2.5 cm. Round off the edges. The photo shows several different models armchairs from bars, made independently using this technology.

Country chairs

These wooden chairs are a more simplified version of the classic ones. Assembly diagram wooden frame basically the same, but the wooden parts are not rounded, the simplest armrests and even legs are made from the bars according to the principle of a children's designer.

Particular attention is required to the processing of the end parts of the furniture, which will be in the open air. After careful grinding of the surface, it is processed with hot drying oil and covered with 3 layers of varnish. Removable cushions add softness to country chairs.

Hanging chair hammock

For the manufacture of this necessary attribute of rest on modern dacha you need to know how to knit in the technique of macrame.

Main materials:

  • two hoops, a small one for sitting with a diameter of 70 cm, and a large one for the back - 110 cm, which can be made from plumbing metal-plastic pipes. To secure the connection, you can use plastic or wooden inserts which are placed inside the pipe and fastened with screws;
  • cord for weaving, can be made of polyamide with a polypropylene core, the knots from which are easily fixed, do not stretch and do not slip.
  • fasteners, wooden rods.

At the first stage, the entire circumference of the hoops is covered with even turns of the cord, then the inner space of the seat is knitted with a mesh of double cord, made in one of their macrame techniques.

The seat and back are fixed with two wooden rods, which are fixed with cuts, in the front part the seat and back frame are connected with winding and two thick cords.

Another convenient option for giving can be hanging chair, which can be made with your own hands from dense fabric. For the base you need one hoop with a diameter of 90 cm.

For the cover, a 3-meter piece of fabric is taken, which is divided into two identical squares with a side of one and a half meters. Then circles are cut out and a double cover with an allowance is sewn. The groove for the hoop is reinforced with a padding polyester tape, then holes are cut to secure the scabs.

The following ideas are for sewing and knitting enthusiasts who want to apply their skills to furniture making.

Armchair cushion

It is better to sew the first such chair with your own hands, using ready-made patterns in the form of a pear or a ball, strictly adhering to the given dimensions, and only then you can improvise with the silhouette and dimensions. You will need a bag of Styrofoam balls, fabric and zippers for the inner and outer covers, and a sewing machine.

For strength, the seams are made double; when filling, a plastic or cardboard tube is used, which helps not to scatter the electrified foam plastic crumbs.

You can improvise with the shapes and colors of such chairs. With this technology, if you bring the work to the end, there can be no marriage. Failed instances can become original pillows for children's games.

Bottle chair

This is the simplest know-how that does not require any special skills, just the desire to do something with your own hands.

To collect required amount material needed certain time. It will be necessary to collect the same two-liter plastic bottles, clean them and make blanks, cutting off upper part and inserting in pairs into each other. Then the blocks are prepared different sizes for sitting, armrests and back, fastened with adhesive tape.

The chair is going to classical style, rectangular blocks of various sizes for the seat, backrest and two armrests. After assembly, it is necessary to wrap the entire product with a plastic stretch film, and then decorate it with stylish pillows or sew a cover.

Frameless chair-bed made of foam rubber

In order to make such a chair with your own hands, you need to delve into the instructions, especially in the part that explains how to fix ready-made blocks.

It is worth catching the essence once, and it consists in a special method of sewing covers along the edges to each other, you can easily assemble soft folding structures - corners, armchairs and sofas of any size. You will also need to learn correct calculations when cutting foam rubber and pattern covers.

Drawings for the manufacture of adult and children's bean bags

Before you start making an easy chair with your own hands, you need to make a drawing, look for a pattern on the Internet and copy it from there. Choose any model for the product, at your discretion - just a bag, pear, drop, square, dream up and make a funny animal. Now we select the fabric.

DIY budget bag chair made from old jeans

For the inner cover, it is enough to choose a dense fabric so that after the time the balls do not come out of there - fabric for bedclothes, satin or calico. For an outer cover, choose a fabric for furniture upholstery, jeans, leatherette are suitable, the main thing is that you like it and blend with the overall decor.

As a stuffing, a special filler is used - polystyrene foam. Order online or buy in a store that sells products for the repair and restoration of furniture. It must be remembered that the material is voluminous and almost weightless. When purchasing it, you need to look at the size of the package, and not at the weight. For a bean bag you need 250-300 liters.

The bag chair consists of an outer removable cover, a durable inner and filler

Don't want to mess with Styrofoam, replace it with ceiling tiles- crush it and use it as a filler. Plant components can be used as stuffing, but it is better to change them every six months, as this is a moisture-absorbing material, mold may appear.

Before making a soft fabric chair, we make patterns, lay them out on fabrics, do not forget about seam allowances - 2-3 cm, then you need to circle with chalk. The model consists of the bottom and "petals". First we start sewing the inner cover: all the wedges are sewn to the bottom, then sewn on the sides. Don't forget about the filler hole. Now let's move on to the outer case. It is made in the same way, we sew a zipper on the side.

When the covers are ready, it is necessary to fill the inner bag.

Attention! If you are crafting with children, make sure that the granules do not get into the respiratory tract, as they are volatile, they can easily get into the nose and mouth. We fill in 2/3 of the volume, we sew up the hole. Then we put on the top cover and fasten it with a zipper.

Frameless furniture on Russian markets appeared quite recently. But thanks to its many benefits, it quickly became popular. But the price of such a novelty is often too high.

In the meantime, making an easy chair with your own hands is not difficult at all. Such work will not take you much time. And to tailoring and decorating such original decoration your room can attract children.

Preparatory stages

Before you start, prepare detailed drawing. If you do not carefully calculate all the necessary dimensions, then you may not get the result you expected at all.

The easiest way is to make an easy chair in the form of a pear or an ordinary bag.

Figure 1. An example of a drawing of a simple chair.

But you can give it the shape of a pyramid or, for example, a cube. Often, ottomans are made for children's rooms in the form of a drop or a funny animal, for example, a dragon.

An example of a drawing of a chair of a rather simple form is shown in fig. 1. Naturally, you can change the dimensions given in it as you wish.

Next, choose a fabric. You will need two types of matter. For the inner cover, get a fairly thick fabric with a tight weave. Otherwise, the filler balls may eventually come out of the bag. For this purpose, satin, coarse calico, a fabric intended for sewing breastplates are well suited.

But the outer cover can be sewn from any material. Denim fabric will look good in any interior, artificial leather, fur or furniture velor. The color of the material depends only on your taste, preferences and appearance rooms.

In order to, you need to buy a special filler. Usually frameless furniture is stuffed with polystyrene foam. It can be purchased at stores that sell furniture repair products.

Be careful when buying this product remotely (for example, from a catalog or via the Internet). This filler is very light and voluminous. To transport 10 kg of "balls" you will need a cargo gazelle, because in a normal a car he won't get in. When buying a filler, pay attention not to the weight, but to the volume of the package. For tailoring an easy chair, you need a bag with a volume of 200-250 liters.

If desired, polystyrene foam can be replaced with foam chips. It can be obtained by crushing, for example, decorative tiles used to finish the ceiling.

Some experts advise stuffing frameless furniture with hay or buckwheat husks. But using natural materials, remember that they should be changed about 1 time in 5-6 months. Fillers of plant origin absorb moisture well, which can lead to fungi. In addition, such materials are quickly compressed, and the easy chair will lose its volume and elasticity.

Sewing a frameless version

In order to make an easy chair of the dimensions indicated in the drawing, you will need the following materials:

  • fabric for the inner cover (with a width of 150 cm) - 3 m;
  • fabric for the outer cover (with a width of 150 cm) - 3 m;
  • zipper, 22 cm long;
  • sewing threads;
  • decoration materials (piping, braid, ribbons, inlays).

Start by cutting out all the necessary details. Don't forget to leave seam allowances! They should be 1.5-3 cm.

First you need to prepare the patterns for all the elements of the easy chair. They are usually made from paper or polyethylene film(if you want to make patterns intended for reusable). When creating patterns, allowances do not need to be taken into account.

The finished pattern is placed on the wrong side of the fabric and circled around the office with chalk or a bar of soap. Between the details of the pattern leave a space equal to the allowances. If you provide the same allowances for all parts, then the elements can not be marked separately. It is enough to fold the fabric in several layers and circle the pattern 1 time.

Tailoring should begin with the manufacture of the inner cover. “Petals” are sewn to the bottom in turn. Then the sides of the long parts are sewn together. Leave a hole in one seam for stuffing. The top part is sewn on last.

Next, make a cover. It is done in the same way, only a zipper is inserted into one of the seams. To do this, the seam is sewn from below, to a length of 3-5 cm. Then a pass is made equal to the length of the zipper and stitched to the end. The parts sewn in this way are turned right side out, and the allowances for the fastener are folded over and ironed. Lightning is placed under the workpiece from the inside and pinned to the allowances with pins. First, a line is laid on one side, trying to place it as close as possible to the teeth (usually special paws are used for this). sewing machines), then on the other. The fastener is finished by laying double seams at the beginning and end of the zipper.

Additional decor will make the chair a unique detail of your room. It can be decorated with embroidery, appliqués, decorative braid. This finish depends only on your personal taste.
