Bathroom tile calculator online. How to calculate how many tiles you need for a bathroom? Correct calculation of the need for floor tiles

To get started with tile calculator, select the collection that we will calculate, and get to the start page. Here is how it looks, for example, for the Karaoke collection.

The whole calculation consists of 4 main steps.

Step one: determine the purpose of the tile and the dimensions of the walls for calculation

In the vertical column, set the height of the ceiling and walls. In our example, we will calculate for a bathroom with a ceiling height of 2.7 m, two walls 2.5 m long and two walls 1.7 m wide. We will not subtract the dimensions of the doors for now - this can be done later.

It is convenient that the dimensions can be entered in two ways: manually, or by moving the ruler slider to the desired indicator.

Here you can also set the width of the seam between the tiles, because this indicator also affects the calculation. You can also choose the layout option - our tiles will be laid horizontally or diagonally. We chose a narrow seam, 1.5 cm, and a horizontal layout.

Have you made sure that all the required fields are filled in? Great, you can move on to the next step.

By the way, if you need to make a tile calculation for a smaller number of walls, for example, for two, then you can remove unnecessary walls. To do this, set the cursor to the value of an unnecessary wall, and select the "remove wall" button. It is located in the right corner, under the rulers. If suddenly we change our mind and decide to add a wall to our calculation, then we will press the blue “Add wall” button on the left.

Step two: laying out the tiles

On the left side tile calculator we see the assortment of the collection: basic tiles and decors. On the right side, which is wider and larger than the left, our walls will be displayed, according to the parameters set earlier.

We will “clad” the walls in turn, choosing them from the list below: wall number 1, wall number 2, and so on.

For facing the first wall, choose a beige tile, which we want to arrange in horizontal rows. To do this, drag the desired tile with the left mouse button to our wall.

Please note that in order for the tile to fill a certain space, we need to bring it to the "Arrange in rows" item. If we just drag the tile onto the wall, it will lay down as a single element. This is convenient for decors, but not suitable for a large area.

The arrangement of our tiles can be horizontal or vertical. If we want to add a contrasting stripe, then again select the desired color from the left side, and lay out the desired area using the "Arrange tiles in rows" item.

When the entire wall is laid out, then you can place the decors. To do this, select a separate decorative element and move it to the place we need. We selected a whole strip of decors, again using the Arrange Tiles in Rows option.

Did you place the element incorrectly? No problem. Let's use an eraser. It is located under the lower left corner of the wall. We grab it with the mouse, drag it to the place where the mistake was made - and the unsuccessful element has already been removed.

Here is one of the walls that we got:

When the result tile layouts on one wall satisfies us, move on to the next.

If we want to repeat the layout of one wall for another, then we can use the “Arrange like a wall ...” command and select a wall from the menu.

Having worked on all the walls, we move on to the next step.

Step three: save (subtract doors, bath, etc.)

Now you need to select the areas free of tiles. This must be done on a specific wall, from those that we have already “lined” by selecting them from the list.

First, the door. Its exact dimensions can be set manually, or by moving the sliders on the rulers. The selected area will be reflected on our wall.

Secondly, you can set an arbitrary area. For example, we decided not to tile the space behind the bathroom. Then select the desired wall and mark on it the area that we will free from the tiles. Arbitrary areas can be added or removed in the calculator as we wish. It is very comfortable.

Everyone noted? Then we move on to the fourth step.

Step four: final settlement

As a result, we get the complete tile layout in accordance with our design aspirations, the size of our room, and selected arbitrary areas.

The name of the tile, price, footage, stock (if it is needed, it is not included in the decors, for example), the total amount is indicated. The stock can be reduced, increased or completely removed.

Below the calculation, we can see our layout of tiles on the walls, the way we intended it.

The finished calculation can be sent to your e-mail, saved in your bookmarks, or you can place an order directly from here using the appropriate button.

One wall drawing

The calculator calculates the number of tiles not by area, as is done on most sites, but by the number of tiles by the height and width of the room. In this case, the number of tiles is first rounded up to a larger integer, and only then the total number of tiles is calculated by multiplying the number of a whole tile in width by the number of a whole tile in height. Similarly, the number of tiles is calculated taking into account voids. This approach takes into account the amount of tile waste when changing the position of the void. Any tiler knows that when the door in the room is adjacent to the wall, there will be less waste. But most similar calculators that calculate the number of tiles by area do not take this feature into account.

X - wall width

Xd - width to void

X1 - void width

Xp - width after void

Y - wall height

Yd - height to empty

Y1 - void height

Yp - height after emptiness

FY - tile height

EX– tile width

Enter all dimensions one by one in the corresponding places of the form. Dimensions must be given in mm. If the wall is completely tiled, that is, there are no doors, windows and voids on the wall, then in the form where the dimensions “to void”, “Void width”, “Void height” are indicated, zeros must be set.

If there are voids on the wall (where the tiles are not glued), you need to carefully measure the distance to the void in height, width and dimensions of the void itself. The size above the void in height and behind the void in width is calculated automatically by the calculator.

If the dimensions are entered incorrectly, there will be a warning "Non-pushable".

The calculator is designed for tile layout from bottom to top, from left to right. This means that the cut tile (if any) is located at the top of the wall and to the right when looking at the wall. If you need a tile layout from right to left, this can be taken into account by resizing to a void in width and, when laying out the tiles, consider the pattern as a mirror image. Specify the size of the seam between the tiles, the number of cut tiles depends on it and, accordingly, an increase in the amount of waste is possible. With small wall sizes for cladding, the size of the seam only affects the amount of tile waste, with wall sizes of 10 or more tiles, the size of the seam can also affect the number of tiles to be purchased. When facing tiles, do not cut the tiles all at once (for example, if there is a tile that needs to be cut before the void in height, then see the calculation, you can use parts of an already cut tile). So waste tiles will be minimal. Similarly for the last row in height and width of the wall. If the remainder of the cut tile exceeds the size of the tile to be glued, then it is better to cut it off from the already cut one.

The "Tiler Skill Qualification" indicator takes into account the skill of the tiler. It is known that most of the waste appears when cutting tiles. Therefore, this calculator calculates the number of cut tiles and the percentage of scrap when cutting, depending on the qualification.

This parameter is subjective. It indicates that 10% of all cut tiles will be damaged by the qualification of the tiler, defined by the number "1". Accordingly, 20% of the cut tiles are damaged when the number "2" is entered. And so on. This parameter can be specified from your own experience if you know the tiler well, or ask the tiler himself how many tiles can be damaged when cutting.

Taking into account the qualifications of the tiler ensures the possibility of a one-time purchase of the entire required number of tiles. There are situations when the number of tiles is incorrectly calculated and you need to buy more, and the tiles of the same batch have already ended. A similar tile from a new batch may differ in tone and this will be an unpleasant surprise.

After entering all the necessary dimensions into the forms, you must click the "Add" button. The name of the tile, calculations of the number of tiles and the price are recorded in the specification. When the calculation is completed for all walls with the same tile, click the "Total" button. The corresponding line will appear in the specification with the calculation of the total number of tiles and its total cost. Make sure that only the same type of tile gets into the specification, otherwise you will get an error. If a tile of a different type is accidentally added, you can delete it before clicking on the "Total" button. If necessary, you can delete the entire BOM table.

In a situation where there is both a void for a bathtub and a window on the wall, i.e. several voids, it is better to divide the wall into two or three, depending on the number of voids. A conditional dividing line must be made at the place of multiple laying of tiles, taking into account the seam. So for example, with a tile height of 300 mm., The height of the section can be made at a height of 900 mm. plus the thickness of the two seams. Then, in the schedule, these parts of the wall will be summed up automatically.

Any work related to the repair in the apartment begins with the choice of the design of the room and the selection of the necessary materials to bring the idea to life. Next, you need to calculate the required amount of paint, wallpaper and everything else that may come in handy. Sometimes novice masters have a question that belongs to the category of very important ones - how to calculate the tiles on the floor? Let's figure out how it's done.

In hardware stores now on sale there are various types of tiles. They differ not only in texture and color, but also in size - there are tiles both large and small. Among all the variety, there is sure to be an option that will suit the owner of the apartment both externally and in quality. But it’s not enough just to choose a tile in accordance with its decorative data, you need to correctly calculate the amount required for finishing a particular room.

Previously, tiles were often bought for the future, as the material was quite scarce. Now you can safely buy only the quantity that is needed at the moment. This allows you to save money and spend it on some other types of materials that may come in handy during repairs. Moreover, you can even calculate the number of tiles with an accuracy of one piece.

Advice! When purchasing a material as fragile as ceramic tiles, you should always keep a small margin in mind. It will be needed in case a part of the tile is damaged during transportation or directly during repair work. Damaged items cannot be used to decorate the room.

Pasting walls with wallpaper, decorating floors with laminate or self-leveling floors is much easier than laying ceramic tiles. Therefore, the main advice for a beginner is that you need to purchase tiles with a small margin. Firstly, the reason for this is that the material is fragile and can be easily broken with one careless movement. Secondly, tiles, even in one batch, may differ in color or texture, have a slightly non-standard shape.

The correct calculation of the number of tiles is the determination of the required number of elements for finishing a specific place in the house, subject to a minimum error or rounding up the required number. It is in this case that it will be possible to avoid the fact that there is not enough material and you will have to go to the store again in search of the missing elements. By eye, the number of tiles is never determined.

Despite the fact that the calculation seems to be a fairly simple procedure, there are some subtleties. For example, it is important to take into account the dimensions of the room where the renovation is being carried out, the type of tiling chosen, as well as the shape and dimensions. It is also worth remembering that some elements will have to be cut, that is, not used whole.

Advice! The area of the floor located under the bathroom can be omitted when determining the number of tiles. It will not be visible there anyway, but it will be possible to save good money on the purchase of ceramics, since this material is not cheap.

How to calculate the tiles on the floor - the main ways

You can determine the required number of tiles using one of several methods. They are applicable in all cases, even if the room where the floor is made out has a non-standard geometry. Of these, the one that seems to the master the most convenient is selected. Let's get acquainted with the methods for calculating the number of ceramic elements.

Important! To carry out calculations, you already need to know what sizes the tiles will be laid in the room. And here it is important to take into account the chosen masonry pattern, as well as whether there is any pattern on the ceramic elements themselves.

By room area

The most understandable and familiar method is to determine the consumption of tiles in square meters, that is, by the area of the room. This method is ideal for laying ceramics in one color, one size, as well as in the case of a simple or diagonal laying or with an offset.

First, the area of the room is determined. The easiest way to identify it is if the room has a geometrically regular shape - a square or rectangle. In this case, the length of the room is simply multiplied by the value of the width. Measurements are taken of sufficient length with a tape measure along the walls of the room.

Further, the obtained value - the area of the room - should be increased by about 10%. This will make it possible to make the necessary stock of material (10% can be added after all calculations have been made). The final value is divided by the area of one tile (this is also the length and width of the ceramic product, multiplied by each other) - the number of elements that is required for work is obtained.

If it is necessary to close the base of a sufficiently large size with tiles, then you can count the tiles in packs. To do this, you need to know how many square meters the coating will cover, packed in one box. Then the value of the area of the room with a margin can be divided by the area of the coating laid in one pack - the result will be the number of boxes of tiles.

On a note! If the final value in one case or another turns out to be fractional, then it is always rounded only up.

A more accurate calculation of the area can be made if the tiles are counted individually. If the room has a complex geometry, then you will have to tinker with the calculations. For example, you can conditionally divide it into regular geometric shapes and find out the area of each of them, then add the values and get a figure equal to the area of the entire floor in the room. You can also use various geometric formulas that were studied in school.

Counting when laying diagonally

If the tile layout pattern is chosen not as usual - straight, without shifts, but diagonal, it is important to consider that the consumption of finishing elements will increase. Then another 15% is added to the resulting value, which is calculated in the same way as described above. This will allow you to make the necessary stock of material.

The most economical and simple laying method is the usual straight line, without element shifts. It is he who is recommended to be used by beginners in the world of repairs. It is difficult to make a mistake here, and therefore, most likely, the work will be done immediately neatly and beautifully.

Important! If the walls are uneven, then it is impossible to lay tiles along them. It is better to draw one even horizontal line using a level or ruler, along which the coating will be installed. When the bulk of the tile is laid, the remaining floor (above the horizontal) is covered with separate small pieces of tile. Moreover, this place should not be in front of everyone. It is better to start laying tiles from the corner farthest from the exit.

By number of rows

The calculation of the required number of elements can be made using another method. It is based on determining the number of rows of tiles on the floor. In this case, it turns out the length and width of the room on the large sides. Next, the parameters of one element of the floor finish are measured. Getting the number of rows is simple - you can divide the length of the room by the length of one tile. And the number of ceramic elements in each row is calculated by dividing the width of the room by the width of one element.

The resulting numbers are always rounded up only. Up to 10% of the stock is added to them. In this way, you can get a more accurate amount of ceramics, since it is easier to take into account the elements that need to be trimmed.

Piece method for determining flow

This method is characterized by the smallest error and is often used if an expensive coating is purchased for finishing the floor, or an original unusual pattern will be formed on the floor, consisting of elements of different colors or textures. The method is also relevant when creating complex panels.

On a note! If the ceramic coating will be laid diagonally, then this method of counting the material is not used.

The counting process is painstaking but simple. First, the values of the length and width of the room, as well as the dimensions of one tile, are clarified. The number of rows of elements is calculated, and then the number of tiles in the row. Further, the values are multiplied - the total number of tiles required to cover a particular area of the floor is obtained.

Next, it is best to draw a tile laying pattern on graph paper and see how many elements of one color or another are required. From the total number of tiles, the values of the number of another, not the main tile, are subtracted. After all the calculations, you will get several values that will vary depending on the selected pattern. Thus, only the right amount of each type of ceramic is purchased.

On a note! When making calculations on graph paper, the tile that will eventually be cut is considered as a whole. And do not forget about the supply of material.

Combined demand calculation

If there are several zones in the room lined with different tiles - for example, a panel will be formed in the center of the room, and the rest of the floor will be covered with another one-color material - then it is recommended to count the tiles using 1-2 methods at once. That is, for a panel, the amount of ceramics will be considered separately from the entire floor.

Tile Calculator

For those who are not friendly with mathematics, there are various tile counting calculators that are presented in the form of computer programs or on the Web on sites. Such calculators are always available in tile stores, as well as from master designers. But in any case, in order to make the required calculations, you need to know the dimensions of the room, that is, measure the length and width of the room. Values determined by eye can give a strong error and it is good if it is up, not down. Otherwise, you will have to buy more material already in the process of work, which is very inconvenient.

On a note! The cost of such a calculator program is quite high, it makes no sense to buy it at a time. It is easier to use a simpler online calculator or pay a designer for the opportunity to use the product.

Bathroom - a room designed for taking a shower, water procedures or bathing.

The correct calculation of bathroom tiles is an integral part of the competent arrangement of a room with high levels of humidity, allows you to plan the final budget for repairs and helps to think through the entire design of the plumbing unit in detail.

Ceramic tiles are among the most popular finishing materials widely used in bathroom floor and wall surfaces.

The tile attracts the consumer with quite affordable cost, a very rich choice of design, moisture resistance, durability and absolute environmental friendliness.

Tiles in the bathroom can be laid independently, without the involvement of professional craftsmen, but in order to obtain a high-quality and durable finish, it is very important to determine the exact amount of facing material.

A scale drawing of the entire area to be renovated, including all wall and floor surfaces, as well as any other details in the room, helps to easily determine the required number of tiles.

When calculating, the features of the place of installation, the presence of door or window openings, the dimensions of the finishing elements, as well as the presence in the bathroom of additional areas for the installation of tiled cladding are necessarily taken into account.

Location (walls or floor)

At the stage of calculation, experienced craftsmen carefully measure the surface, calculate the total number of stacked rows, as well as the final number of tile elements for each order.

Based on the measurements taken and the calculations obtained, a suitable layout and the total number of tiles are determined, after which, using a laser level, markings are applied to all surfaces to be faced.

When finishing the floor and walls can be used:

 • direct styling - the easiest and most affordable option, best suited for non-professionals;
 • diagonal cladding - an original version that contributes to the visual expansion of space and well masks the curvature of the floor;
 • staggered finishing is the best way for tiling surfaces with tiles of different colors or shades;
 • offset laying - the method is characterized by a shift of each subsequent row of tiles with the same distance.

Traditional styling, complemented by a variety of inserts, looks very original and elegant.

The presence of a door (window) opening

Before calculating the area of the wall surface, it is necessary to measure the window and door openings, which will allow you to calculate the quadrature of the entire part of the walls treated with tiles. Readings should be taken along the slopes of the openings. The area is calculated by multiplying the height and length.

If there are several windows and doors in the room, then each is measured separately, and the data obtained must be summarized.

Tile size

Tiles produced by domestic and foreign manufacturers differ not only in color and texture, but also in size.

Popular tile formats for bathroom wall cladding:

 • 15x25 cm;
 • 20x25 cm;
 • 33x33 cm;
 • 33x45 cm;
 • 30x60 cm.

In working with the floor surface, elements are used that have dimensions from 25x25 to 600x600 mm. The most popular sizes are 10x10 cm, 15x15 cm and 20x20 cm, as well as 30x30 cm.

To decorate a small bathroom, the most preferred option is to use medium-sized tiles.

Additional elements on which the tile is laid

Particular attention should be paid to additional elements represented by vertical and horizontal edges, as well as other components of the correct design. For example, special borders with a rounded edge are very convenient to use when decorating any horizontal edges, while vertical finishing should be done with special corner elements.

Primary tile calculation

The most important additional elements when laying wall tiles are borders and skirting boards, mirror frames, corner pieces for edge decoration.

How to calculate the number of bathroom tiles

The calculation of facing tiles for finishing the bathroom can be carried out using special programs in the form of an intuitive online calculator. If you wish, you can make all the calculations yourself, remembering the main course of school mathematics, as well as armed with a tape measure, pencil and paper.

Floor calculation

The technology of self-calculation of the floor involves the following measurements:

 • the area of the two side walls in the room. For example, the length of the room is 2.0 m with a width of 3.0 m;
 • calculate the floor area of the room by multiplying the length by the width. For example: 2.0 m × 3.0 m = 6.0 m 2.

When using a calculator, the area of the proposed flooring is calculated in the standard way, but taking into account the length and width of the selected cladding elements. It is also mandatory to enter accurate data on the thickness of the planned tile joint. The latter indicator is especially important for a large bathroom area or when using small-format tiles.

Calculation of floor tiles

At the final stage of calculations, you need to specify the installation method, which can be represented by traditional or diagonal rows. Despite the fact that the coverage area is preserved in any case, cutting tiles is always accompanied by significant waste and requires correction of the final amount of material.

Wall calculation

The technology of self-calculation of walls involves the following measurements:

 • the length of all walls in the room;
 • sum the data to obtain the total length of the perimeter;
 • get the height of the room or area to be lined;
 • round the data to the nearest centimeter;
 • calculate the total area;
 • exclude from the total area the dimensions of window and door openings, as well as decorative inserts.

For example, the purchased tile has standard dimensions of 200 × 300 mm.

If the width of the wall is 340 cm and its height is 280 cm, then the calculation is performed as follows:

 • conversion of centimeters to millimeters: 340 × 10 = 3400 mm and 280 × 10 = 2800 mm;
 • the height of the surface is divided by the length of the tile: 2800 ÷ 300 ≈ 10 (number of rows of tiles);
 • wall width divided by tile width: 3400 ÷ 200 = 17;
 • the number of elements for the entire surface to be faced is calculated: 10 × 17 = 170 pieces;
 • the percentage of the tile reserve is calculated: 5-10% of 170 is 9 or 17 tiles.

Thus, the total amount of purchased finishing material, taking into account the stock, is 179 or 187 pieces (depending on the installation method). To calculate the area of the walls on the online calculator, in addition to the length and width of the bathroom, the total height of the finished area is also entered.

An incorrect calculation causes an excess of tiles and extra cash spending, as well as a shortage of elements. The second option is the most unpleasant, since there is a high risk that the necessary material will not be available for sale, which can completely ruin the entire design of the room.

Stock

When purchasing a tile or other finishing tile, it is necessary to order approximately seven percent of the facing material additionally.

The optimal percentage of the stock of the total amount of material will allow you to perform work if chips or cracks appear on some elements, as well as if tiles with defects or color mismatches are detected during the laying process.

This feature of the choice is explained by the frequent cases of the presence in different batches of tiles of the same brand, but with significant differences in color. With a diagonal laying method, a large amount of material is consumed, so the standard supply of tiles is about 15-20%.

The reserve tiles remaining after the finishing work can be subsequently used for local repair work, when replacing elements that have become unusable.

Moisture-resistant ceramic or tile is an excellent choice for installation in areas with high levels of humidity, including bathrooms of any size. Tiled cladding is characterized by a very attractive appearance, moisture resistance, hygiene, durability and reliability, and the correct calculation of the amount of such a finishing material is available even for non-professionals.
