DIY transformable kitchen table, drawings, diagrams

Buying furniture is easy. But high-quality transformers are not that cheap. In addition, the one available for sale may not fully meet your taste and wishes in terms of functionality. Making a transformer is possible for anyone who not only knows the names of different tools, but also knows how to handle them. Having skills in this matter is desirable. Even leftovers and trimmings of the required size and tools are suitable for production:

  • Saw;
  • Electric drill, socket and other wrenches, drills;
  • Fasteners, screws, nails;
  • Sandpaper, paint;
  • Long brass hinges;
  • Wooden blocks, corners or pipe scraps for table legs;
  • Parts for support rails made of wood.
  • height adjustable furniture legs), frame.

    If you used a drawing from the Internet, it is better to make sure that it is accurate and free of errors before starting work.

    Work order on how to make a compact transformer

    When making a transformer yourself, it is very important to comply with all parameters. A discrepancy of a few millimeters can deprive you of such a necessary product.

    Work algorithm:

  1. Prepare all the elements of the future structure, making sure that they fully comply with the required dimensions. The parts for the legs must be absolutely identical to ensure the stability of the table;
  2. Drawing a line on inside tabletop exactly in the center, cut it into two identical parts. Attach support rails to each of them;
  3. To connect the legs, drill holes of the required diameter through each pair of legs. Attach loops parallel to each other;
  4. Assemble the product.

There are many options for making a transformer. The principle is the same everywhere. Availability of skills, dexterity, the right tools. The main thing is not to be afraid and follow the diagrams and all sizes.

Transformable table ( extendable table, butterfly table) is an excellent option for a small kitchen. It takes up minimal space, is mobile, easy to fold and can expand to the desired size whenever you need it. Also read about how to choose the right inexpensive one for your kitchen.

You can’t place a lot of furniture in a small apartment. Owners should think about interior items that can simultaneously perform several functions. Two tables - a coffee table and a dining table - can easily be replaced by one transforming table. Buying this product will hit your pocket, so it’s better to make it yourself.

What can you do at a transforming table?

It is convenient to dine with a large group at the increased surface of the transformable table

The biggest benefit of tables that take on multiple shapes is their versatility. A seemingly standard table can be turned into a completely different one, which can have any purpose:

  • Table for a formal reception of guests;
  • A place where you can prepare dishes and cut vegetables and fruits;
  • The surface on which they eat breakfast, lunch and dinner;
  • A table for work (if you have to read or write in the kitchen).

To these functions you can add the use of a transforming table as a cabinet or coffee table, but these purposes are more modern.

The most popular and useful option is combining a coffee table with a dining table. While there are no changes in the everyday life of the owners of this piece of furniture, there may be a vase of flowers and a framed photograph on it, or there may be magazines lying on it. But as soon as guests arrive, the table area increases so that the owners can occupy it with cutlery and treats.

How does a coffee table transform into a dining table?

The principle of turning an ordinary table into a dining table is based on changing its size. This is facilitated by varying the shape and height of the tabletop above the floor. The table surface becomes larger and higher in one or more actions:

  • Raising the legs of a table in the same way as an ironing board;
  • Separating folded table elements (like pages of a book) and then pulling them out;
  • Combination of the two above methods.

Having decided to create a transforming table yourself, you must first decide on the type of transformation. When choosing, you need to deviate from individual preferences. And to know for sure which way to transform a table from one to another is better, it is recommended to study the information on the forums.

This is how the folding mechanism of the transforming table works

If you want to make a transforming table so that there is room in your apartment for a romantic dinner for two, then it is wiser to focus on transformation method No. 1. And when from time to time there is a need to host friends (up to 10 people), it is much more correct to make a table, the area of which is increased using method No. 2 or 3.

Most often, men choose for self-made a table, parts of the table top are retracted to the sides, freeing up space for built-in elements. These additional components of the table are located inside it or stored separately (like hair dryer attachments).

The transformation of a coffee table into a dining table is carried out thanks to the installation of special mechanisms. They can be sliding surfaces, gas lift loops that lift and hold the “lids” of the table, and special fittings.

Materials and tools

Typically, a multifunctional table is made from wood (using solid beams), chipboard, laminated wood panels and glass. But not only the usual lumber, but also unnecessary things like a suitcase, can serve as raw materials for the manufacture of such an interior item. window frame or pallets.

Chic and unusual in appearance, transformable tables are made exclusively from ordinary laminated fiberboard panels or medium-density boards.

How many materials will be needed can be calculated immediately. To assemble a standard square transforming table, use:

  • 4 bars that will become table legs;
  • Stove Chipboard thickness 2.2 cm for table top ( Alternative option- sheet of plywood);
  • Chipboard slabs 1.6 cm thick for the body;
  • 4 corner fastenings connecting the table surface with the legs;
  • Pipes with a diameter of 2 cm;
  • Transformation mechanism;
  • Bolts, nuts, hinges, washers and self-tapping screws.

To connect and process the parts you will need putty and wood glue. You need to choose only those that are suitable for working with wood. In order to increase the service life and improve the aesthetic appearance of the product, it is recommended to arm yourself with impregnation and varnish. Tools will help you assemble all the prepared parts to make a transforming table: nails, a hammer and a trowel.

Design and assembly of elements: step-by-step instructions

You can design a coffee-dining table in computer program PRO100 or Sketch Up. They are easy to understand, so even a beginner can quickly figure them out. True, drawing up a project and drawings of the desired table is a labor-intensive process, so you will have to wait 2 hours for the result.

The figure shows standard sizes transformable table parts

Having received the drawings, we begin cutting materials. You can cut it in the same program, or rather in the application to it. After printing out the cutting map, it's time to make the cuts. It is advisable to assemble the finished parts from laminated fiberboards together without fastening them yet, in order to be sure that the dimensions are calculated correctly.

Now it's time to assemble the table frame using zip ties for grip. wooden elements(confirmants). They are immersed in wood using a screwdriver.

To make clear markings on parts made of dark laminated chipboard, you can use regular stickers. A pencil is not suitable for this purpose - the lines drawn with it are barely noticeable, since the graphite glares and is reflected. When using stickers, there is no glue left on the surface at all.

It's time to equip the structure with legs. They must be thick, because all the elements of the transforming table will put pressure on them. Together, their weight can be about 50 kg. It’s better to play it safe and connect the legs to each other using zip ties.

Then you can screw the legs to the table. But first you need to accurately mark the fasteners and drill holes in them. The legs are usually installed on metal bushings. The created holes will not be visible, since the upper part of the legs is hidden in the frame.

Equipped with transformation mechanism and tabletop

Having finished attaching the legs, you can start installing the mechanism that is important for the transforming table. First you need to equip the product with springs that separate the folded parts of the table, and then insert a special device into the frame.

This device for changing the shape of the table weighs about 10 kg, so it is better to fix it through the structure. There is nothing wrong with this, since it is correct. In addition, all the gaps and fastenings made will not be visible from under the overhead legs.

You need to apply markings for attaching the mechanism, using the same stickers. And then you can drill holes into which you will later need to insert bolts. After creating through holes, you need to arm yourself with phosner and prepare a place for immersing the bolt heads.

Now it's time to secure the mechanism with bolts. You will need a lot of these parts, since they reliably connect the walls of the table so that they become self-supporting.

coffee table IC transforms into a dining room when it becomes taller and wider thanks to a special mechanism under the tabletop

The last task is installing the countertop. The first step is to make holes for fastening the elements, and then fix two parts of the tabletop in their places - first the small one, and then the large one.

The tabletop must be assembled carefully, since in case of an error it will unfold unevenly. And hinges are responsible for separating the parts of the tabletop, which should not only be functional, but also strong, so as not to come out of special slots.

After the work has been done, you need to try to unfold the transforming table. If you have to make efforts to increase the table area, you will need to adjust the transformation mechanism. If the table lays out perfectly, then you can varnish it.

Using this manufacturing method, you will be able to get a durable and original transforming coffee-dining table. This product will be useful to every housewife and will last for many years.

Quite a long time ago I saw a video showing how you can make furniture from plywood, which is indispensable for small apartments - a transforming bed-table. I really liked the idea, but never got around to it. Here is the video:

Agree, great idea! And the implementation is quite simple at first glance. Just take it and do it.

I started looking for more information about this bed. I also found this video - the process of creating this bed in SketchUp is recorded here.

I also realized that in original video there are errors. Moreover, both in the original sizes and during video processing. The thickness of the washers and the gaps between parts are not taken into account at all. It is also unclear how the installation location of the strip was chosen, which fixes the horizontal position of the tabletop in the process of converting furniture from a table to a bed and back.

In general, all these issues had to be resolved anew.

A few words about the design. The product consists of two parts. The first part is the frame frame. By the way, on its basis you can attach a full-fledged cabinet or a second tier to this product. The second part, in turn, consists of two parts - the bed frame and the table top. They are connected to each other in such a way that, regardless of the position of the bed frame, the tabletop is always in a horizontal (or almost horizontal) position. Transformation from one state to another occurs by rotating (raising) the bed frame. When the bed frame is in a horizontal position, it becomes a bed. If you lift it (turn it) in vertical positionsleeping place hides, and the tabletop rises from floor level to working position- it turns out to be a table.

Here's what I got.

Bed position

The size of the space for the mattress is 1914*914 mm. I left this size original. A mattress measuring 190*90cm will fit under it. Mattresses of these sizes are available in our stores. A 7mm gap around the perimeter can be useful for belts. To prevent the mattress and the entire bed from falling out, you should think about belts.

Bed height – 500mm. A bit much, but not critical. (Although if you add the height of the mattress, for some it may become uncomfortable) B this option the mattress level will be lower by 32 mm. If desired, it can be structurally lowered even lower and a cutout can be made in the sidewall delimiting the mattress. This will reduce the height of the bed by 10 centimeters maximum.

In this version as it is now, the maximum thickness of the mattress is no more than 160mm

In the “bed” position, the table top lies flat on the floor without gaps.

I colored it a little for better understanding.

Position – “table”

The height of the tabletop from the floor is 768 mm. Quite normal height for an adult.

Tabletop depth – 332 mm. This is clearly not enough. If anyone wants to increase it, there are two ways: increase it forward and increase it backward. The first method is the simplest. Just increase the size of the tabletop part. The second method will require changes to the design of the bed.

Well, at least in width workplace makes me happy))).

It is worth paying attention to the bed frame (the part where the mattress fits). Its thickness is 20cm. If you do not recess the mattress to lower the height of the bed, then in the “table” position on the back wall (which is the bottom part of the bed) free space appears. It can be used to install shelves in the form of pockets. Or you can attach a monitor on holders to the hospital. This will free up space on the countertop.

Image in color

Now a few words about the transformation process.

As I already wrote, in the video instructions for making a bed, the center of the hole for the auxiliary strip and its length were not marked correctly. Or I just misunderstood. In general, there was clearly something wrong with the indicated dimensions and placement of holes.

I had to figure this issue out from scratch. I got it like this

Recorded short video- the process of transforming a bed into a table and back in motion.

As you can see, at the bottom and top point the tabletop is in a horizontal position.

During the transformation process, approximately in the first quarter of the movement, the position of the tabletop deviates slightly from horizontal. About 2-3 degrees. A glass of water won't tip over, but a pen/pencil can easily roll off. Well, this is the best I could do.

What kind of program is this (in which the kinematics of the associated movement was modeled), if you are interested, I will describe it in a separate article. So I'm looking forward to your feedback.

To make a metal plate, I looked at 3mm thick sheet metal. Such large quantity I think there is no need for holes and screws (as shown in the video). It is enough to have 3 holes and connect them not with self-tapping screws, but with screws and nuts. Moreover, there is one hole for rotation and two for fixation. This will obviously be more reliable.

By the way, there are ready-made solutions mechanisms of transformers table-bed. Domestic samples cost from about 2000 UAH. Foreign (Western) analogues are five times more expensive, starting from about 10 thousand UAH. That is unless you want to “reinvent the wheel”. Well, the design of the bed there is completely different. But we are not looking for easy ways????)))))

Our bed has a simpler mechanism. But for now it lacks a shock absorption system. I'm looking towards gas pistons (about the same as in the factory solutions). I have no experience working with them yet. If someone undertakes to help me with the calculation/selection/placement of a gas piston (gas elevator), I will be very grateful.

This is how my plywood bed-table came out

Here in the image there are still no round spacers between the limiting bars and the moving part. But they don't make special weather.

I plan to bring my project to final drawings with cutting maps. Moreover, both for a CNC machine and for cutting on a conventional formatting machine. Make a specification of all fittings (screws, nuts, studs, etc.). True, I won’t say exactly when this will happen.

You will also need to look for and select bed clamps in a vertical position.

The project is captivating with its relative ease of implementation and a large potential for modifications.
What do you say? Anyone want to make a bed like this for themselves?

Garden folding table ik looks organic in the shade of trees summer cottage, under a canopy or in a gazebo, while making your stay comfortable and convenient. A huge advantage of this design is its compactness when folded and the special warmth that comes from things made with your own hands. Anyone can make a folding table for a summer house, especially since the work process does not require any specific tools, and the material for the structure can be purchased at any construction market.

DIY folding picnic table. Step by step photos

Before you start assembling a folding table, you should remember that half the success lies in using quality materials . The timber and board must have as few knots as possible, and cracks and delamination of the wood are not allowed. In addition to lumber, you will need fasteners, hinges, and means to protect lumber from exposure to the atmosphere.

Materials needed to make a table

To make a folding table, you need to have on hand:

  1. timber measuring 45×45 mm - 8 pcs. 730 mm long - for making legs;
  2. slats 45x20 mm: 2 x 550 mm and 2 x 950 mm - for assembling the upper frame of the table, as well as 2 x 350 mm - for the folding part;
  3. plywood slats 40×27 mm for supports - 3 x 450 mm;
  4. 18 mm plywood with dimensions: - 985x585 - sheet for the tabletop; - 2 sheets 985x530 for folding parts; - 1 sheet 885x481 mm for the shelf;
  5. rail 440×40 mm as a cross member;
  6. 2 slats 450x40 mm for side support elements;
  7. 4 loops 60×34 mm for fastening table covers;
  8. 4 loops 80x41 mm for folding legs;
  9. screws made of galvanized or stainless steel;
  10. metal dowels for mounting shelves.

When cutting workpieces, try to ensure that the corners of all parts and their ends have right angles. To do this, use a carpenter's square, and if it is missing, you can use the angle of factory-cut sheet material.

Assembly instructions

Before you start assembling a folding table with your own hands, you need to prepare timber parts for installation. To do this, a groove up to 20 mm wide and deep to the middle of the workpiece (22.5 mm) is cut out on each frame part. The same distance is measured from the edge to the groove - 30-40 mm.

Step-by-step photo of how to make a folding picnic table

After all the grooves have been cut, drill holes for connecting parts together, as well as attaching legs.

To avoid distortion of the frame when making a folding table with your own hands, make a cross cuts, which will include the corners of the frame during installation. This process can be examined in more detail in the presented figures.

Properly prepared parts are the key to high-quality assembly, so it is advisable to use quality equipment- good circular saw, drill, set of chisels and other carpentry tools.

Assembling the upper frame underframes(common name for tabletop frame). To do this, the slats are assembled into a groove and fixed furniture confirmations(screws for hex key);

Installed on the assembled frame support legs , combining the sawn parts with the frame slats.

At the corners of the plywood shelf they make cutouts for supports. To fix the slab, install the legs at a distance of 220 mm from the edge of the legs. metal dowels.

Retractable support elements are assembled. To do this, the remaining bars are connected in pairs with slats installed in grooves, fixing the connection points with confirmations.

Having sanded and primed the tabletop and other parts, they begin to paint the footrest, slats and tabletop.

Mount shelf spacer. The side lintels are attached to the tabletop frame. The support rails are attached to the shelf, for which holes are drilled in it. Remember that this work requires special care, since even small displacements can affect the geometry of the table.

A jumper is mounted to the table frame, after which three additional spacers are attached.

Retractable legs They are hinged and attached to the external struts.

Main and folding parts table tops screwed to the hinges.

The table cover is installed on frame, after which the middle part is fixed to the frame with self-tapping screws.

A table assembled in accordance with our instructions will have sufficient strength and reliability. The main thing is to carry out the work step by step, in the presented sequence. Processing and painting must be carried out before assembly. Otherwise, it will not be possible to accurately paint individual parts and finished product will not look elegant and impressive enough.

The sliding table has a durable, stable design, and even a beginner can handle its assembly. When folded, the dimensions of the tabletop are 1200x700 mm. After sliding the table top apart, a special insert is installed into the resulting opening, resulting in a tabletop length of 1670 mm. This makes it possible to additionally place two adults at the table.

Tools and materials

Before going to construction market Write down what parts and materials you will need to assemble the sliding top table:

  • laminated chipboard 25 mm thick;
  • PVC strip for gluing edges up to 2 mm thick;
  • aluminum corners measuring 50×50 mm - 4 pcs. 500 mm each;
  • telescopic guides for drawers length 500 mm - 2 pcs.;
  • legs furniture diameter more than 60 mm - 4 pcs. length 710 mm;
  • latch lock for drawer - 6 pcs.;
  • 10mm M4 threaded screws;
  • furniture screws 16×3 mm and 20×4 mm.

To work, you need to prepare the following equipment and tools:

  • milling cutter;
  • electric jigsaw with a set of saws for plywood and chipboard (fine teeth);
  • circular saw;
  • electric drill and set of drills;
  • screwdriver or set of screwdrivers;
  • building hair dryer or iron;
  • wallpaper knife;
  • bubble level;
  • clamps;
  • measuring tool, pencil.

Before you start cutting the material, make a drawing of the table according to your dimensions or use the design we propose. In this case, the dimensions components tabletop covers are indicated on the provided drawings.

Instructions for making a folding table

Stage 1. Do marking sheet material, then cut out tabletop parts from laminated chipboard - an insert measuring 700x470 mm, as well as two halves of the table top measuring 700x470 mm. You can avoid chipping on the surface of the chipboard by using a jigsaw with a special file with a low-profile tooth. Additionally, you can stick masking tape at the cut site, which will prevent chipping of the facing layer.

Remember: if you plan to process workpieces with a milling cutter, be sure to make a processing allowance of at least 2 mm.

To cut the slab evenly, attach it to the workbench with clamps and level the edge. The tool should be operated slowly, constantly monitoring the quality of the cut.

Stage 2. Trimming using a router will allow you to get perfectly smooth side surfaces. This tool is also used slowly and carefully.

Stage 3. Pasting the ends of the tabletop with PVC edges. The workpiece is secured with a clamp, cut off and the edge is applied to the side surface of the slab. After this it is heated construction hairdryer or iron and smooth. After the material has hardened, the protruding edge of the edge is cut off with a wallpaper knife.

Stage 4. All sharp edges and corners of aluminum corners are processed.

Stage 5. At each corner, mark the middle and measure 25 mm from each edge.

Stage 6. Each side of the furniture guides is applied to the corner and the places of their attachment are marked. The corners are drilled at the designated points. To prevent the drill from sliding on the aluminum, the installation positions are cored. The corners and guides are connected with bolts.

Stage 7. Resulting guide designs lay down on a flat substrate as follows: the corners connected to the internal guides (thin) are placed inward, towards each other, and the corners to which the outer parts of the guides are attached (fixed, thicker) are placed outward. After this, 4 holes are drilled in the moving and stationary aluminum parts.

Stage 8. Both halves table tops lay face down on a workbench or other flat surface. On top, at a distance of 80 mm from the sides of the panels, retractable guides are installed (with the movable, thin part inward). In this case, the joint between the halves of the table top should fall in the middle of each guide.

Stage 9. The fixed half of the telescopic guide They are attached to the left half of the table cover, and the movable one is attached to its right side. To do this, use 20x4 mm self-tapping screws.

Stage 10. Next to sliding system install latches and hinges.

Stage 11. With the latches open, move both parts of the tabletop apart and place additional panel. After this, all elements of the table cover are shifted to form a flat, gap-free surface.

Stage 12. Additional latch loops are installed on the middle part of the tabletop. The resulting fastening will allow you to fix the table both in the open and in the assembled state.

Stage 13. The legs are attached to the tabletop using 20mm self-tapping screws.

After assembling a folding table with your own hands, be sure to check the design for strength in the extended and folded position. Only after testing can the table be considered suitable for use and installed in a permanent place.

IN country house or at the dacha, every person wants to have only high-quality and multifunctional garden furniture, which will not take up much space, and at the same time will perform maximum functions in the garden. Therefore, a transforming bench will be an excellent solution for sharing tea with your family. Here you have both a bench and a table at the same time, and most importantly, you can make such a structure with your own hands.

Transformable bench - design description, operating principle

This bench is for country house represents enough simple design, which can easily transform into a table with two comfortable benches. And when folded, it is an ordinary bench with a back and handrails. It will not take up much space on the territory personal plot and at the same time will be able to perform all its functions in full.

Functions and convenience of the bench

This is a compact and practical bench that easily turns into a fairly spacious table and two comfortable benches. Thanks to high degree mobility, you can install it anywhere in your garden plot.

The only drawback of such a bench is its considerable weight, since wooden boards for the production of such complex design it will take a lot, but it will be quite stable, reliable and durable if everything is done correctly and precisely according to the developed instructions in compliance with all technological processes.

Preparation for construction of the structure: project drawings with dimensions

Before you start building a transformer bench, you need to prepare all the materials and tools, as well as compose good drawing or find it on the Internet.

We offer you a standard drawing - a diagram of a bench - transformer with the dimensions indicated on it. The most difficult step is creating a moving mechanism, so initially it is necessary to prepare all the blanks, which will then be assembled together into a single transformation structure.

To make a bench - transformer, you will need to purchase planed edged boards and timber. Larch, birch, pine, beech, ash or oak (if possible, since it is very expensive) are best suited for such a design.

The board must be well sanded, of high quality and meet all compliance standards. If you buy a board from a sawmill, be sure to inquire about the presence of a quality certificate for their products, since under the guise edged boards oak, they may sell you a completely different product, and if you are not well versed in wood, then it is best to take with you a carpenter who understands the types of boards and its quality.

Material calculation and tools

To assemble a transforming bench we will need:

  • Two beams with a section of 90x45x1445 mm;
  • Five bars with a section of 90x32x1480 mm;
  • Two beams with a section of 90x45x1445 mm.

To work we will need the following tools:

Stages of making a bench-table

  1. The first step is to make the legs of the frame. To do this, you need to cut 8 absolutely identical bars 70 cm long and make oblique cuts on them at the bottom and top (also identical), so that you can get the perfect balance when further installing the structure at a certain slope.
  2. Next, we make a frame for two benches from polished edged high-quality boards. We cut out four sections of 40 cm and the same number of sections of 170 cm. On all boards, the corners must be cut so that you can then make two completely identical rectangles of a slightly oblong shape. To join them we use specially prepared screws or nails. But first, we drill identical holes in the boards with a drill (the length of the boards is 1.7 meters).
  3. In the frame of the structure, it is necessary to make several strong reinforcing elements, which will subsequently form a comfortable seat. For this we take wooden beam and nail it in increments of 500 mm. This way we will divide the structure into sections and protect the future bench from lateral deformation.
  4. The legs must be screwed to the seat at a distance of 10 centimeters from all corners diagonally. We do this so that the joints are near the “seams” or a little further. Here it is very important to make the highest quality structural elements, that is, secure them with 2 or 3 bolts that pass through the beam and top part cooked legs. We need to make grooves in the timber in which we will hide the bolt heads. And under the nut we cut off the excess with a hacksaw.
  5. Next, we make a rectangular element measuring 70x170 cm from the timber, which we connect from the inside with additional parts that ensure the rigidity of the structure. In the future this element we use it to create a backrest or tabletop.
  6. At the moment, we are not covering the frame with shields, since it will be difficult to assemble the entire mechanism into a single whole. Moving the structure will also be more difficult.
  7. We combine the three resulting elements into common system. This work is quite complicated, since it will be necessary to work with large parts of the future bench - a transformer. It is best to carry out all work on a flat floor or on a special big table. We make all connections movable and fasten them with hinges or regular bolts.
  8. We cut two bars 40 cm long to fasten them between the bench and the table panel at the corners. They will be located at the bottom of the shield, but on the side of the bench itself.
  9. We cut two more bars 110 cm long so that the back is inclined. We fasten them with self-tapping screws or other fasteners at another bench, but in this case the fasteners are not placed on the near side, but in the very center. Otherwise, we will not be able to correctly connect the two benches together.
  10. After we assemble the entire structure and carefully check the operation of each moving element, we can begin to sheathe the frame from the outside. To do this, we take a well-polished edged board, but you can take timber or chipboard (if the transformer bench will not constantly stand on the street). Thus we have completed technical stage work.

The transformable bench can be covered with stain and then with water-repellent varnish, which is used to paint yacht decks. The varnish dries in about 36 hours. But still, it is not recommended to keep a bench coated with varnish outside in the rain and snow.

If the design is done correctly and you take care of it, it will serve you for at least 20–25 years. Very often craftsmen replace wood with metal, which does not look as beautiful and aesthetically pleasing, but the service life increases significantly.

A transformable bench made of a metal profile is made similarly to a wooden one, but only with some changes.

To make such a bench we will need:

  1. Cleaning everything metal profiles from rust so that later it would be easy for us to work with the material - weld pipes and paint them.
  2. And then, according to the drawn up drawing, we cut the workpieces to size.
  3. We make the seat frame. To do this, we weld the pipes as shown in the figure and, if necessary, strengthen the structure.
  4. In the future, this structure will serve as a table, as well as the back of the bench. We also had to change the angle a little.
  5. We weld another seat.
  6. After all welding work we begin to drill holes and screw everything onto special furniture bolts (their length must be at least 60 mm). Then we insert washers between iron elements design to make it easier to unfold.
  7. Here we see final version a transformer bench, where an additional strong leg was added to one of the benches and the angle and lunge of the leg in the second bench were slightly changed, since the angle of inclination in the backrest was changed and it became steeper. In order for the bench not to tip over, it was necessary to overcook the structure.
  8. For the legs, we cut out “heels” measuring 50x50 mm from a metal sheet so that the bench is more stable and does not “sink” into the ground if it stands on soft ground.
  9. Depending on the size of the structure, we cut the boards and sand them well. These will be our bench seats and table surface.
  10. As a result, we get excellent finished design benches - transformer.

Bench decoration

Then we saturate all the boards well with an antiseptic and fire retardant and let them dry. Paint with water-repellent varnish, oil or acrylic paint. Apply varnish or paint in several layers.
