How to make a lava lamp at home? How to make an endless source of lava in Minecraft? Decorative item and its components

Dear friends! I am glad to welcome you on the pages of our site.

In the "Experiments" section, we collect descriptions of experiments that are of interest to us. If you have not been to us before, then you are welcome to our small laboratory! We are Mama Galya and Vladushka!

Today we invite you to make a "Lava Lamp" with us. And not just to make, but with its help to study some of the physical properties of substances. For example, the density and shape of liquids. I do not offer complex theoretical material - Vladka is not interested in it. We will touch science with our hands! Shall we start?

To make your own lava lamp, you will need:

  • A clean plastic bottle or a beautiful jar (0.5-1 l)
  • Funnel for liquid
  • Vegetable oil
  • Food coloring (you can use brilliant green)
  • Effervescent tablet (such as Aspirin Oops)
  • Torch

Shall we start?

  1. Fill the bottle or jar ½ full with water. It is interesting to use not only transparent jars, bottles, but to use, for example, a colored plastic bottle. In our case, it is a green bottle. Do not take too large containers. It turns out more beautiful in narrow bottles. If there are no suitable jars, you can make it in a glass.
  2. Add dye. Green can be used as a dye. The color turns out to be a soft blue, which contrasts well with the yellow color of the oil. Especially creative experimenters can use juice instead of water!
  3. Fill the jar to the brim with vegetable oil. You can experiment with the volume of oil: pour more into one bottle, less into another.
  4. Break the effervescent tablet into 4 pieces. Dip one piece of the tablet in water and observe the result.
  5. To enhance the effect, turn off the light, illuminate the bottle with a flashlight. It turns out interesting if you put a phone with a flashlight on under the bottle.
  6. You can restart the lamp by throwing another piece of effervescent tablet into the water.
  7. Experiment with different dye colors, jar and bottle shapes.
  8. You can add glitter or sequins to the jar. We had grown hydrogel balls that funny somersaults in a homemade lava lamp.

Why is this happening?

Oil and water do not mix because they have different densities. When poured into a bottle, the oil simply spreads over the water under the influence of gravity. After adding the effervescent tablet, the changes begin. The tablet reacts with water, forming bubbles of carbon dioxide, which begin to rise to the surface. These bubbles mix water and oil. And we see how the balls of oil bubble up in the liquid.

I wonder why balls, and not cubes or pyramids? We conducted an experiment to determine the shape of a liquid in another liquid. Although we have observed many times in nature that the natural shape of a liquid is a sphere. For example, a drop of water in flight or on a non-wettable surface.

A lava lamp is not only a visual demonstration of some of the physical properties of substances. But also a great toy for kids. As well as designer decoration for the children's room. Send photos of your “lava lamps” and tell us in the comments about what you remember about the density experiment. And in order for exciting experiments and research to continue in your laboratory, accept a gift from me. COLLECTION of tricks and experiments with WATER. Have fun learning science. After all, science is fun!

Successful experiments! Science is fun!

How to make lava in Minecraft?

Lava cannot be called a rare element, but still its extraction is fraught with risk. However, it is justified, since this resource is involved in the crafting of quite rare materials. Below you can find out how to make lava in Minecraft.

Making lava in Minecraft

First of all, what players need to know is that it is impossible to make lava in Minecraft, you will have to look for it. As a rule, this element is found in caves at a height of 1 to 12. You can also search for this element on the surface, in the form of lava lakes. If you create a portal to Hell, you will be able to find a real vein, because in this dimension it is found everywhere, so there will be no shortage of it.

To get lava, you need to craft a bucket in which this material will be taken out of Hell or a cave. You just have to be careful, because the lava can cause serious damage to the player's character. This is a huge minus, but at the same time a plus, because by pouring a bucket of lava on an evil mob, it will be possible to neutralize the enemy. That's just the mobs of Hell will remain unharmed, which will also need to be taken into account when descending into this dimension.

It is also important to remember that lava burns objects and vehicles, moreover, it melts the ice that is nearby. Basically, lava is used to obtain obsidian - the hardest substance in the world of Minecraft. To do this, you need to find a source of lava and fill it with water. When flowing lava is flooded with water, a cobblestone is obtained.

If you are interested in this material, then our articles and

People who play Minecraft a lot sooner or later think about how it is easier to get this or that resource. Such questions arise especially when you get tired of exploring the world around you. Lava is a versatile material that can be used to create many items. It is also an excellent fuel for the furnace, so the question of how to make an endless source of lava will always be relevant and interesting for players.

Bucket

This is the first item you will need before making an infinite lava source. In Minecraft, liquids can only be carried in a container, which is a bucket.

To make it, you will need the following:

  • Assemble the furnace for firing materials.
  • Dig up iron ore. To do this, you need at least a stone pickaxe.
  • Burn the ore in a furnace - this is how you get. Also, an ingot can be knocked out of golems and zombies. Or disassemble the iron block.
  • Now open the crafting panel.
  • Place three ingots in the middle cell of the bottom line and in the outermost slots of the middle one. The bucket is ready.

In total, you will need four units of packaging. Now let's look at what else is required of you before making an endless source of lava.

Liquid

Before starting construction, go to the dungeon. Your task is to find lava. You can meet her at almost any level and even on the surface. If you have a portal to the underworld, then go there. There you can find it without problems.

Scoop four buckets from the lava lake. The main feature of this process is that even if you pour lava into a bucket from a "river" and then place it on the surface, you will get a "source".

Cobblestone

The last thing you need before making an infinite source of lava is a certain number of blocks that cannot burn. For this, cobblestone is ideal. There is a lot of it on the surface, so there will be no problems with production. In total, the construction will require 93 blocks. As a last resort, you can find a cobblestone in the Nether when you go down for lava.

Building

Finally, you can proceed to the main stage. So, how to make an infinite source of lava? Our building will occupy an area of five by five blocks, as well as six blocks in height. In addition, you will need some kind of ladder or stand. Or the mode of "creativity" and flight.

  • Dig a hole in the ground 5x5 and two blocks deep.
  • Lay out the bottom layer with cobblestones (25 pieces).
  • Now we need to shape the "pool". Strengthen its walls along the edges with cobblestones (2nd layer). This will take another 16 blocks.
  • Now we need to build the columns. They are not required, but it will be easier to navigate. Create pillars on keystones two blocks high. In total, you will spend 8 cobblestones.
  • The turn of the upper platform has come. Make it the same as the bottom of the "pool", but with one exception. There should be a hole in the very center. For this you will spend another 24 cobblestones.
  • Finishing touch. Make another "pool" above the top platform by creating walls. In addition, place one more stone at the edge of the pool. This will take the last 16 blocks. Now the top layer should be a platform with an empty cross in the middle.
  • Pour a bucket of lava into each beam of the cross.

That's all - in front of you is a real fiery endless source of lava? Very simple. Due to the four sources, you will have an inexhaustible waterfall, which, flowing down through the central hole, will fill the pool. If the springs are not drained, the flow will never stop, and you can constantly draw lava from the pool or turn it into obsidian by simply pouring a bucket of water over it.

DIY magic lava lamps

Lava lamp (Lava Lamp) will be a chic gift for people who appreciate originality, creativity and practicality. This is an amazing piece of furniture, often used as a beautiful decorative lamp, which will be very happy with children, mothers and romantic natures. Behind the lamp it is interesting to observe how liquids move and an unusual effect is obtained, both in artificial and daylight. The play of light in such a lighting device fascinates and soothes.

The work of a decorative lamp

The lava lamp is an oblong glass flask. It contains a magical solution of bright liquids and solids. Sometimes there are sparkles in these magic lamps. When the lava lamp is turned on, the solution inside heats up, resulting in the movement of these particles, which create an indescribable impression of an interesting dance.

The process of this magical device is based on the following principle: 2 different liquids are placed inside a glass flask. They do not mix with each other: one liquid is water-based, and the second is oil-based. The bulb is connected to the base into which the incandescent lamp is inserted. As a result, the mixture is illuminated through the bottom and heats the liquids, which affect their density.

The oil-based mixture expands and rises when heated. Thus, large bubbles form in the lava lamp. The solution, rising closer to the surface itself, cools and descends to the bottom of the lamp. This is the principle of the movement of bubbles in a lava lamp.

This result has been given a name: the lava effect. Thus, the name of the device itself appeared - a lava lamp.

Decorative item and its components

    glass flask;

    liquids: paraffin and glycerin;

    incandescent lamp under the cylinder;

    base (in which the base and incandescent lamp are located);

    decorative lid (so that liquids do not leak out).

Using the Magic Device

The use of the product is easy - plug into the socket and the incandescent lamp will heat the contents in it. You can use the lamp continuously for 6-10 hours. If you notice that the oil content begins to settle at the bottom of the cylinder or the bubbles are too small, then the device overheats. Unplug it for an hour to let the device cool down inside.

Correct use:

    setting the device on a flat surface;

    installing an incandescent lamp in the center;

    room temperature 20-25 degrees (if the temperature is low, the paraffin will not warm up);

    the duration of the lamp is up to 10 hours, a maximum of 20 hours, but overheating will be visible even to the naked eye;

    cleaning the outside of the flask with a soft cloth;

    warming up the device every 2 months;

    replacement of burned-out light bulbs with A-15(40) watt light bulbs.

Advantages and functions of a lava lamp

The device performs the following functions:

    a piece of interior;

    lighting device (table or floor lamp).

Most often, the device is bought for interior decoration and entertainment. Also, as a night light, it perfectly fulfills its functions (the lighting area is about 2-3 meters).

Advantages:

    practicality - care is simple, does not require much time;

    originality - surprise with an unusual product;

    versatility - interesting for both adults and children.

These qualities make the lava lamp a gift for all occasions. Such a device is given for a birthday, March 8, New Year, and will also look great on an office table.

DIY lava lamp

Let's make a magic lamp at home. It’s not a fact, of course, that it will turn out like a store lamp, but you can try.

The first way is a do-it-yourself oil lamp

To make a lava lamp you will need the following materials:

    a cylindrical glass vessel with a tight-fitting lid;

    base (metal, wood or plastic);

    electric light bulb 25W;

    bulb holder;

    castor oil;

    alcohol (90-96 degrees);

    a dye that is soluble in fat, but not soluble in alcohol and water (for example, art oil paints are suitable).

Manufacturing process

The base of a lava lamp can be of any material and any shape. A glass vessel and a light bulb are attached to the base. Drill a few holes on the sides to cool the device.

First, take a cylinder with clear oil (after adding oil to it) and color this liquid. Then add water and alcohol. Pour the colored liquid into a glass vessel with water and alcohol. Leave the top of the vessel slightly unfilled (it will fill up when the liquid expands from heating). If the fatty liquid immediately floats, change the density of the liquid, which is water-based, by adding a little alcohol.

Let's test the device. Check that the electric lamp is heating the bottom of the glass cylinder. If necessary, add water or alcohol. When alcohol is added, the density of the aqueous solution decreases, and when water is added, it increases. Get when the lamp will work, and then tightly seal the cover in the product with glue.

It remains to assemble the remaining parts and insert the glass vessel into the base. Turn on the magic lamp! Her glow is truly a magical sight. In a transparent vessel, large bright bubbles move and form, which create a play of light.

The second way - with do-it-yourself paraffin

Necessary materials for the manufacture of the lamp:

    glass cylindrical vessel;

    liquid (ordinary water will do);

    vegetable oil;

    liquid paraffin or wax;

    light and small multi-colored objects;

    small crystals (for example, salt or sugar crystals);

    light bulb electric.

Progress

Pour water halfway into a glass container. Add a little paraffin and small colored objects. Pour oil into this mixture and wait until the water and oil separate from each other. Then add a little bit (about a pinch) of crystals to the flask. Put the cylinder on the included lighting device and watch how the light bulb heats up and illuminates. The impression of the glow of the lamp is amazing. The bubbles in the glass cylinder become interesting in shape and size.

Explanation: when the device is first warmed up, it takes 2-3 hours for the paraffin to warm up properly. If paraffin sticks to the walls or to the bottom of the flask (after 1-1.5 hours), you need to carefully twist the product around its axis several times.

The peculiarity of this table or floor lamp is such that at a temperature of 20 degrees and above, liquid paraffin sinks in oil. And when the paraffin is heated, it becomes softer and lighter. The temperature in the flask itself is unstable, paraffin floats up in a chaotic manner and solidifies closer to the top of the vessel. Thus, a slow movement of paraffin or wax along the cylinder is obtained.

Lava lamp - a universal lamp or a night light-relaxer. Turn on the magic lamp and enjoy its unusual effects!

Remember - this lamp should be done under adult supervision. The alcohol and oil used in the lamp are highly flammable and care must be taken when heating them to set the lava in motion. If you are a child, you should not try to make the lamp yourself - show this manual to an adult and ask them for help.

  • Factory lava lamps use a proprietary blend of liquid waxes. It is impossible to achieve a similar effect in a homemade lamp, but with a successful design, your “lava” will flow almost as beautifully from bottom to top and back.

Take a glass container. Any clean glass container that can be closed and shaken a little will do. Glass withstands heat much better than plastic, so it is more suitable for a lava lamp.

Pour a small cup of mineral or baby oil into a container. This will serve as material for the rising and falling "lava" bubbles. The amount of oil does not matter, since it can always be added to the lamp.

  • It's best to start with regular oil, but if you want to get colored "lava" you can use oil paints. Be aware that over time, the dye may separate from the oil, accumulating at the top or bottom of the container.
  • Add a mixture of 70% rubbing alcohol, 90% isopropyl alcohol and water. Both types of alcohol can be purchased at a pharmacy. With proper proportions, the density of the mixture will be close to the density of mineral oil. For this:

    Place the jar on a secure thin stand. Close the lid tightly before moving the jar. Place the jar on a stable, heat-resistant surface, such as a flower pot, turned upside down. There should be enough space under the surface to be able to place a small lamp there.

  • Install a heat source. After you almost equalize the density of the oil and alcohol mixture, all you have to do is add a heat source under the lava lamp. When heated, substances expand, with the oil expanding slightly more than the surrounding alcohol. As a result, the oil floats up, cools there, shrinking at the same time, and again sinks to the bottom. So let's get started:

    • Choose your bulb carefully. For a jar no larger than 350 milliliters, take a 15-watt sewing machine light bulb. Use a 30- or 40-watt bulb to heat a larger jar; do not use more powerful light bulbs, as the glass jar may overheat and melt.
    • Screw your chosen light bulb into a small directional light so that it shines upwards.
    • For better control of the light intensity of a light bulb and the heat it generates, connect a rheostat to it.
  • Wait for the lava lamp to warm up. Some lamps take a couple of hours to warm up, but a homemade lamp usually takes less time. Every 15 minutes, touch the jar with a cloth-wrapped palm. The sides of the jar should be warm, but not scalding hot. If the jar gets too hot, immediately turn off the light bulb and replace it with a less powerful one.

    • Try to gently rotate the warming jar, wrapping your hands in a cloth or wearing potholders.
    • When leaving, do not leave the light bulb on; after several hours of operation, turn off the light bulb, allowing it to cool.
