Modern fittings for kitchen cabinets are the latest trends. Furniture hinges. Their types, purpose and application in the assembly of furniture Hinges for corner kitchen cabinets 135 degrees

When choosing a kitchen set for installing a kitchen, you need to carefully approach the issue of choosing hinges for its facades. These are small mechanisms with which hinged doors can be opened and closed. Today, developers offer the consumer many different options for hinges on facades. How to choose the right furniture hinges for facades and how to make the right choice.

Purpose of hinges (thick, radius facades)

First of all, the loops for are necessary to fix the facades on the body. They also provide the ability to open and close hinged doors. The possibility of adjusting the facades themselves (thick, radius), the degree of fixation of the doors, the maximum possible angle of the doors when opening, the smoothness of the free movement of the doors, the absence of squeaks, distortions and other possible defects depend on which hinges will be chosen.

Pro standard sizes of kitchen sets can be found in this.

Device

The most popular model for facades kitchen cabinets are four-hinged loops, popularly called "frogs". This design is very durable, having the ability to adjust the position of the facade and a stopper to prevent arbitrary opening of the doors.

The manufacture of four-hinged hinges occurs by stamping sheet metal(become). On top of the product is covered with a layer electroplating, which provides an aesthetic appearance and protection against rust (corrosion). They can also be covered with various decorative coatings, making the surface matte, chrome or colored.

Parts of a four-hinged hinge:

  • A cup. It has square shape with rounded corners. Inserted into the loop hole in inside doors. And fastened with self-tapping screws, it is possible to use an additive.
  • Shoulder. Four-hinged mechanism that acts as a lever for opening / closing.
  • striker required for installation. The hinge body is attached to the striker. With special screws you can adjust the position of the facade.

Additionally, the kit may include:

  • Bowl pads.
  • Shoulder pads.
  • Closers (allow the loop to close smoothly).

Kinds

  • Overhead. With this fastening of the hinges to the facade, it is completely closed by the side, excluding gaps. With the door closed, the angle between the front and the side of the box is 90 degrees. When the door is open, this angle is 110 degrees. This mounting option is used in cases where it is necessary to block the open part of the box with one or two doors.
  • Semi overhead. Such loops have a bend at their base. Installed on the facade, they overlap half of the side of the box. The angle of the hinge in the closed state is 90 degrees, in the open state it is 110 degrees. They are used if there is a need to install hinges on one partition in order to open the doors in different directions (when installing overhead hinges, the doors will not be able to open).
  • Inserts. They are installed inside the box and have a large bend at the base. When using these types of loops, visible sides boxes. The angle of the hinge in the closed state is 90 degrees, in the open state it is 100 degrees. They can be attached to the sides of the box or to its partitions.
  • Corner. Loops are used to install on. In this case, the width of the side parts that are next to the facade should be the same. The angle of the hinge in the closed state is 45 degrees, in the open state it is 95 degrees.
  • Inverse. They are installed when the door needs to be fully opened. The angle of the hinge in the open state is 180 degrees, the facade is located on the same line with the side of the box.
  • Piano hinges are single-hinged. They are rarely used, because without an additionally installed magnet, the doors do not close completely. Most often they are mounted on furniture with a top door opening.
  • Card. They are similar in structure to piano hinges: two hinge plates are mounted parallel to the hinge. Installed on furniture.
  • Mezzanine. They are used when it is necessary to open the facade upwards. The principle of operation is similar to, only a spring is installed in the mezzanine, which allows you to smoothly open and close the doors.
  • Secret. Arranged on the principle of piano and card. Are established on furniture which doors open downwards.
  • Card. Are established on folding facades. Often used to make kitchenware.
  • Pendulum (bar). Spring hinges, which are similar in structure to piano hinges. Provide opening of facades by 180 degrees (according to the principle in Mexican countries).
  • Calcaneal. They are used extremely rarely, because in order to install such hinges, the door must be light in weight, mainly for.

Kinds furniture hinges, how to choose:

Installation (on corner, non-standard furniture)

Usually the doors kitchen furniture are already ready for the installation of hinges, but if it is necessary to install a non-standard door or install new hinges, then first you need to make measurements.

In order to drill a hole for the bowl, you will need a Forstner drill. Also for installation you need: a caliper, a drill and a drill for wood, self-tapping screws, locking brackets.

First, we make markings on the door, depending on the number of loops needed. We retreat 21 or 22 mm from the edge. In the marked places with a pencil, we outline the center of future holes. Drill holes with a Forstner drill. The diameter of the hole for the bowl is 35 mm, the depth is 12 mm. Before you start drilling, you need to make sure that the drill does not pass through.

Now you can attach the base of the hinge in the drilled hole. Fastening takes place with two self-tapping screws on both sides of the hole.

We fix the central screw on the hinge body (in the center of the groove) in order to be able to adjust the hinge back and forth.

We bring the door to the side wall of the box and mark the attachment points. The striker is fixed at a distance of 37 mm from the edge. Leave about 1.5-2 mm between the door and the body. We tighten the screws and adjusting screws.

Tips for installing hinges / closers on the facade of the kitchen, kitchen cabinet

Depending on the size of the door, the number of hinges to be installed varies:

  • Door length up to 90 cm, weight about 4 kg - 2 hinges.
  • Length from 90 cm to 160 cm, weight up to 13 kg - 3 loops.
  • Door length from 160 cm to 200 cm, weight up to 17 kg - 4 hinges.
  • Length from 200 cm to 240 cm, weight up to 20 kg - 5 loops.
  1. When marking, the upper and lower hinges should be at a distance of 70 to 120 mm from the upper and lower edges of the door, respectively.
  2. When marking and placing loops, you need to make sure that shelves and partitions will not be located in these places.
  3. Before starting installation, it is necessary to measure the thickness of the hinge so that it fits firmly into the drilled hole.

When installing internal hinges, marking is done from the inside of the door, taking into account the gap between the door and the box of 2 mm.

Repair

Over time, furniture hinges can fall out of the installation slots. No need to immediately throw out the closet or change. First you need to remove the loop and carefully widen the hole (10 mm in depth). Next, you need to lubricate the wooden dowel with wood glue (or PVA) and drive it into the resulting hole.

We do everything carefully so as not to break through the material. After complete drying glue, cut off the protruding part of the dowel with a hacksaw. We twist the screws that fasten the loops directly into the dowels.

Tips for choosing furniture fittings for the kitchen:

When choosing hinges for facades and, you need to pay attention to the following factors:

  • Required opening angle and cabinet location.
  • Type of lockers (corner, with doors opening up / down, etc.).
  • Door weight and length.
  • The quality of the metal from which the hinge is made (it is recommended to choose a brass-zinc alloy for).

Hinges on the doors, perhaps not the brightest detail kitchen facade but one of the most important. After all, it is the quality that determines the comfortable and reliable use. furniture set.

What hinges are needed for kitchen cabinets? The choice depends on their purpose, method of attachment and design.

The furniture hinge is attached to the body and the door, which serves as a means of connecting two structural parts and a mechanism for free opening / burrowing at a specific angle.

Accessible, understandable and visually about the types that will be discussed below, you can see in the video review:

What are hinges for kitchen cabinets?

Among the entire range by design there are only 2 types.

  1. Hinged (piano and card). These appeared the very first, they were used in the last century, but they are practically not used in modern headsets. But when assembling antique retro or vintage furniture, they may just be needed.
  2. Four-hinged. In their design, they differ from the previous conventional ones in that they can be adjusted in several places, providing free opening / closing of doors.

Four-hinged are considered more modern and reliable.

Four-hinged device

Hinges according to the position of the door and the method of fastening

There are four-hinged:

  • semi-overhead.

Semi-overlay allows only partially blocking the body of the furniture set. It has a slight bend, which forms a gap between the leaves, which allows you to open two adjacent doors at the same time. It is used in intersectional fastenings of kitchen furniture, for example, in a three- or two-door pedestal;

  • overhead (external) are a hinged mechanism that allows you to open the sash 900, actually 105 degrees.

They are most often used for fastening doors in kitchen sets. They allow you to tightly close the doors of cabinets and sections, overlapping the case on both sides, and serve for a long time without breakage;

  • internal (insert).

They have a large bend, which contributes to the removal of the inset door outside the case when opening. It is rarely used for fixing heavy doors on chipboard cabinets. They allow, as it were, to drown the doors in closed for the cabinet body;

  • galleries (straight) are intended for fastening the front part to the sidewall of the false panels.

Often used in corner cabinets under the sink.

corner

For installation in corner floor and wall cabinets, hinges are needed that allow you to open the doors at different angles.

Hinges depending on the opening angle and purpose in the table:

Worthy of special attention carousel (inverse) loops. Due to their design, they provide door opening up to 180 degrees.

They are not used so often in corner cabinets.

For cabinets with vertical opening

These are mezzanine loops. Their main element is a spring, they are installed on the doors of hanging cabinets with vertical opening.

For glass doors

Depending on the material on which they are installed, one can separately distinguish those that are mounted on glass surfaces. Their main difference is the presence of a special decorative overlay, which masks the loop. True, at home it is quite difficult to drill a hole for them.

Loops for glass doors also divided by opening method, angle, etc.

Hinges can be equipped additional elements- closers. Closers can be built-in or come separately in the kit.

With closer

With the help of a closer, the use of furniture will be more comfortable, silent, and they also help to extend the life of furniture cases, because. doors will close smoothly.

How many hinges do I need to buy to securely install the door?

To independently install the hinges on the doors, first of all, you need to determine the required number of devices. It depends on the dimensions and weight of the hinged door, as well as the material from which it is made.

How many pieces you need to buy depending on the weight and height of the facade

In order for the hinges to fully cope with the task assigned to them - to ensure the free opening / closing of the doors without squeaks and displacements, you need to install them correctly. Usually, instructions are always attached to the product.

To install the lower row kitchen cabinets and column cabinets, height-adjustable supports are used, this allows you to align the furniture strictly horizontally, regardless of the floor level. There is a free space under the furniture where communications can be placed. Depending on the level at which the work surface should be, use supports of various heights, from 100 to 170 mm. Relative to the nominal height, the support can be adjusted by 10 mm plus (higher) or minus (lower). As a rule, this is enough to compensate for the curvature of the floor, if any.

Size range supports for kitchen cabinets

The supports also serve to fix the plinth. Fasten the plinth panel on quick-release latches.

Adjustable foot kit includes fasteners for various types of plinth panels

In the case when the space under the cabinets remains open, use supports with a more attractive appearance.

Chrome-plated adjustable feet without fixings fit in a kitchen without a plinth

For wall-mounted dining tables, bar counters and kitchen islands that do not rest on the cabinets of the lower row, adjustable supports are also often used. They are distinguished by an improved design, a larger footprint and a large adjustment range, 2-4 cm in each direction.

Among supports for countertops and bar counters, three heights are more common: 710 mm for dining table, 820 mm for working surface(low bar) 1100 mm for high bar

Furniture ties

For connection external elements cabinet and stationary shelves use a furniture euro screw (euro screw, confirmation, screw screed). It is good because it is quickly and easily installed, including at an angle. Yes, and it's inexpensive. negative moment- the screw screed is not designed for repeated disassembly and assembly of furniture, which, however, for home cooking, as a rule, does not matter.

Confirmation screed is installed at the ends of the side walls of the cabinet

It is impossible to drill holes for a European screw with a conventional drill; for this, only a special one is used, with an expansion of the diameter at the base, repeating the configuration of the confirmation.

For the installation of euro couplers, you will need a special drill and a nozzle for a screwdriver or a hex key

It is necessary to interconnect not only the cabinet elements, but also the cabinets themselves (modules, sections). Both lower and upper, combining them into a connected structure. This is done with the help of intersection screeds, which connect adjacent cabinets through holes drilled in the walls.

Intersection tie - a connecting screw of adjustable length, it can be used to fix elements (in our case, the side walls of the modules) of different thicknesses

Fixing wall cabinets to the wall

The upper cabinets of a modern kitchen are hung on a common mounting rail (bar) using special devices - hinges. The rail, the length of which is equal to the length of the entire top row of cabinets, is fixed securely and strictly horizontally.

A mounting rail common to all cabinets greatly simplifies their installation.

The mounting rail has special holes for hooks, which are available on the hinges. In upper cabinets modern kitchens, as a rule, hinges are already installed. If not, it’s easy to put them on, you just need to make a small hole in the back wall. The design of the hinge allows you to adjust the pressure of the locker against the wall, makes it possible to raise or lower it by a few millimeters.

Hinge mechanism with decorative cover removed. The top screw adjusts the height of the cabinet, the bottom screw adjusts the depth (degree of pressing against the wall)

When using rails and hinges, it is desirable that in the upper cabinets the back wall be inserted into the grooves with a slight recess, and not fixed on top of the case at the back.

Upper cabinets, in which the fiberboard back wall is slightly shifted inward (on the right), will be pressed against the wall more tightly

Furniture hinges

The hinges on the facades of cabinets, which ensure their opening to the side, are the kitchen fittings that we deal with all the time. In an average family, kitchen doors open and close up to a hundred times a day. Hinges intended for kitchen furniture must have a high resource, open with minimal effort and silently. Of all the existing types of kitchen hinges, four-hinged mortise hinges are best suited.

Four-hinged furniture hinges

The vast majority of modern kitchens are equipped with four articulated furniture hinges. The presence of several hinges ensures that the movement of the hinge is shifted relative to the axis of rotation. When opening, the door goes forward a little and to the side, towards the center of the cabinet. Due to this, it does not touch the edge of the neighboring one, even if the distance between adjacent facades in the closed state is minimal - 3-4 mm. A flat spring in such a hinge provides not only automatic closing of the door at a small opening angle, but also its tight clamping in the closed state.

Four-hinged hinges are not visible from the outside, so they do not affect the design of the furniture in any way. The design of the hinge allows you to adjust the position of the facades in all directions, correct horizontal and vertical deviations.

Four hinges allow you to adjust the position of the doors in all directions

Adjustable hinges make it possible to very accurately, with equal and minimal gaps, distribute the facades on the front surface of the furniture. In this case, the cases of cabinets are practically not visible.

Kitchen furniture in European tradition: the doors completely close the cabinet bodies, the gaps between the facades are minimal

It should be mentioned that in the North American tradition, a different principle is used for hanging facades on cabinets. Unlike the European system, where the door is superimposed on the cabinet, closing the ends of its walls, in the USA and Canada the facade is often inserted into the cabinet flush with its body.

Kitchen furniture in the European tradition: the doors are placed inside the cabinet, the ends of which are visible

When installing a mortise hinge on the side of the cabinet, a cruciform mounting platform is screwed, and on the door, in a pre-drilled blind hole with a diameter of 35 mm insert a cup with a hinged spring mechanism. In budget hinges, the base of the mechanism is inserted into the platform with a groove and screwed on.

Scheme four hinge hinge with mounting mechanism in the groove

The more expensive hinges snap into place in one motion, removing them is just as easy.

In this loop, the body snaps into place, the spring retainer and the hole for it are highlighted in red

As a rule, hinges are installed in production, but you can do it yourself. This will require a special drill and accuracy when marking.

Overlay of four-hinged loops

Depending on the degree of imposition on the cabinet body, mortise hinges are divided into three types:

  • Overhead - designed for doors of standard cabinets that have a full-fledged body, closed on all sides. That is, the locker has side walls, a bottom and a plate or plank on top. Most modern kitchens are assembled from such cabinets. The facade should close the end of the side wall, so the influx of the door is the maximum possible, taking into account the gap between adjacent facades.
  • The semi-laid-on loop closes only half of the end of the wall, again, taking into account the gap. It is intended for cases when they "saved" on one of the walls by mounting two (or more) cabinets on the same bottom and in one full-size case, separating them with a partition. Accordingly, one wall-partition closes two doors. The solution is not typical, it is more common in furniture of individual design and manufacture.
  • The inset hinge is designed for kitchen furniture made in the North American tradition, which we mentioned above. The door is placed inside the cabinet body without closing its ends.

Overhead, semi-overlay and inset hinges are designed for lockers various designs

Opening angles of four-hinged hinges for standard rectangular cabinets

The furniture hinge provides opening of a door on a certain angle. A standard rectangular kitchen cabinet in most cases is equipped with a hinge that opens perpendicular to the facade, at a right angle. To be more precise, a little more than a straight line - most manufacturers make standard hinges with a 95º opening.

The standard hinge ensures that the door opens at a right angle or a little more

Such an opening is suitable for typical lower-row cabinets, but not always convenient for the upper ones, especially those that are most often used. For example: freshly washed dishes are put into the dish dryer several times a day, while the doors often remain open all the time the dishes are washed. There is a risk that one of the owners will be injured by hitting his head on the edge of the facade sticking out forward.

But if the door is equipped with a full opening hinge and rotates through an angle approaching 180º (165º if there are protruding handles on the facades), open cabinet becomes dangerous. Also, full disclosure hinges are used for cabinets with doors that have sliding elements.

The full opening hinge has an angle of rotation close to 180º, the open door will be parallel to the facade. At the same time, it is pushed forward and does not touch the adjacent door.

Opening angles of four-hinged hinges for custom-shaped cabinets

For cabinets of a non-standard shape, hinges that open the doors at a right angle are often not suitable. For example, it is much more convenient if the door of a corner trapezoid cabinet is on L-shaped kitchen will open to a larger angle (135º). In a rectangular corner cabinet with a “pocket”, the hinge is mounted on a wall (false panel) parallel to the facade, therefore it should open at an angle approximately equal to 270º.

Corner cabinet doors with a "pocket" will require hinges with an opening angle of about 270º

And for the folding door of the L-shaped corner cabinet, you will need two types of hinges of various designs

Folding doors require hinges with different opening angles

Fittings for custom-shaped kitchen cabinets should be selected in such a way that the opening angle of the facades provides maximum access to the contents of the shelves.

Hinges according to the opening angle must be selected taking into account the design of the cabinet

When selecting hinges, the buyer may encounter confusion caused by differences in methods for determining the opening angle. There are two methods: at the first, the nominal opening angle of the hinge is indicated, from closed to fully open state. In the second method, the value of the right angle is subtracted from the actual value of the opening of the loop. This value is called the installation angle and for a standard 90º hinge, its value is 0º. Thus, hinges with an opening of 45º, 90º, 120º, 165º, 180º, 270º have installation angles, respectively: -45º, 0º, 30º, 75º, 90º, 180º.

On sale you can find many models of four-hinged hinges with a variety of opening angles, suitable for almost any cabinet of custom design. However, there are situations when the existing models are not enough. As a rule, these are furniture of individual design and construction, where the front of the kitchen does not bend at a right angle. In this case, the opening angle of the door can be changed by installing an additional wedge-shaped spacer under the cross-shaped hinge bar.

A wedge-shaped platform installed under the hinge bar changes the opening angle of the door

Mortise hinges with closers

Most (but not all) four-hinged hinges have a flat spring that automatically closes the cabinet door. If you do not hold it, the door will knock on the cabinet body with an unpleasant sound. The silicone pad, which is usually glued to the back of the facade or the end of the cabinet, only partially solves the problem. Door closers for the kitchen, mounted on mortise hinges, slow down the movement in the last stage of closing, it is soft and silent. In addition, it is easy enough to push the door so that it begins to close.

Furniture hinge with integrated spring closer

Another interesting device that is worth mentioning is the door opening system by pressing them. To implement this solution, a cylinder with a button is installed on the cabinet body opposite the hinge, and a magnetic plate is installed on the door. The cylinder makes the closing of the facade soft, partly also performing the function of a door closer.

If the cabinet is equipped with a mechanism for opening and closing the doors by pressing, there is no need for a door closer

Traditional types of furniture hinges

Until the 60s of the XX century, traditional open-type hinges with one hinge were used for kitchen furniture, in many ways similar to door hinges.

Traditional single-hinged hinges can be attached to the plane of the walls and doors (card type) or to their ends (pin type)

Such hinges "do not know how" to automatically close and press the doors. To ensure that the doors open at an angle significantly exceeding 90º, the facades of adjacent cabinets have to be placed at a considerable distance. The use of traditional single-hinged hinges with their inherent disadvantages is justified for kitchen furniture made in a pronounced traditional style. Properly selected open loops serve as an element of external decor.

An open pin-type hinge serves not only as a functional element, but also as a decoration for kitchen furniture made in traditional style

Retractable storage systems

On the lower tier, it is much more convenient to store kitchen utensils in drawers than in cabinets with shelves. There is no need to bend low, quick access is provided to the entire depth of the cabinet, things are arranged systematically, and there are actually more of them. The only drawback of sliding systems is their higher cost compared to conventional cabinets. In budget furniture, we will not see a large number of drawers, but the lower level of an elite kitchen can consist entirely of retractable elements. The horizontal movement of such storage systems is provided by guiding mechanisms.

It is much more convenient to store kitchen utensils and use them in drawers than on shelves.

Guides for drawer systems

There are two types of drawer mechanisms: roller and ball:

In roller guides, the counter movement of the skids is provided by two polymer wheels - rollers. Due to the special shape of the guides, the drawer is pressed against the cabinet in the final stage of closing - an analogue of a door closer. Roller guides do not push the drawer to the end, its contents at the far end will have to be groped by hand. The rollers do not provide ideal smoothness, but they are cheap. This is a perfectly acceptable solution for budget furniture.

Inexpensive roller guides can be matched to the drawer of almost any depth

Ball guides are completely devoid of the disadvantages of roller guides. They are a linear telescopic bearing: steel balls are located between the moving guides in two rows. The strong steel telescopic design is very durable and can withstand considerable weight. Several dozen small diameter balls provide smooth and silent movement. Ball guides, consisting of two telescopic elements, do not pull out the drawer to the end, like roller guides. But guides with three elements allow you to pull the drawer out of the cabinet completely.

In the illustration above - full extension ball guides, designed for a large load. From below - guides for average loading of partial promotion

AT basic version ball guides do not have closers, but options are available with a mechanism that provides smooth automatic closing drawer.

Ball guide with soft close, automatic mechanism is activated when the drawer is pushed in more than three quarters

Drawer options

The most common sliding systems are ordinary drawers (drawers) on roller or ball guides. They can have a body made of conventional laminated chipboard or a metal frame.

Full extension drawer with a metal frame, which serves as one of the elements of a special ball guide

Mesh baskets can be used instead of a box with solid walls, but general scheme this does not change - the guides are installed horizontally on both sides of the retractable system.

Retractable dryer for large-sized dishes, located in the lower tier of cabinets

Retractable cutting boards and mini-tables are arranged according to the same principle.

Large and convenient retractable cutting board when folded it takes up almost no space

Another option for the layout of retractable systems is cargo baskets (bottles), where mesh baskets are installed at several levels and represent a single structure with the cabinet door. If the cargo is wide enough (from 30 cm), the guides are installed, as for boxes, on both sides of the lower basket. For narrow bottle holders, ball mechanisms are placed vertically only on one side of the baskets, one above the other.

Cargo for a tall cabinet with single-sided rails

Swivel and swing-out systems

For corner cabinets, where access to the blind half is difficult, they came up with rotary mechanisms to store utensils. Widely known are "carousels", where mesh shelves rotate around the central axis in the form of sectors of a circle corresponding to the configuration of the cabinet. Convenient, but not very rational, because the corners remain unused.

Swivel "carousel" - the radius shape of the shelves does not make it possible to use the corners of the cabinet

This disadvantage is deprived of rotary-sliding systems designed for corner furniture. With this solution, there are two sections of two-level baskets: one, integrated with the door, moves along a complex trajectory, simultaneously sliding on the skids and turning. The second section is pulled out of the blind part of the cabinet to the place of the first one that has left, where access is provided to it.

Swing-out storage system for a corner cabinet, its entire area is used

Lifting mechanisms for upper level cabinets

In the upper row, cabinets with wide lifting doors are often more convenient than conventional ones that open to the side. A large space is available, adjacent doors do not overlap each other, do not interfere with a person. Wide and low horizontal doors are in harmony with the sliding systems of the lower row, perfectly fitting into the trendy minimalist style. The only drawback of the "lifters" is a considerable price compared to conventional hinges.

Lift mechanisms can be lever-spring or pneumatic (gas lifts). The latter use gas-filled shock absorbers for exceptional ride comfort. The standard lift also works as a closer and completes the movement itself, stopping only fully open or closed. The friction lift can be stopped half-open in any position, which is convenient for tall cabinets. Functionally lifting mechanisms for kitchen cabinets can be divided into three groups:

  • Swivel lifts - the door rises around the axis located on top. Not an ideal solution: it is inconvenient for a short person to close the locker, a tall person can hit his head on the door

Lever-spring swivel lift, for opening and closing the door, you need to apply some force

  • Vertical lifts - the door slides vertically parallel to the facade. Safety solution.

Vertical lift - suitable solution for low cabinets

  • Folding lifts - the door describes a complex trajectory, the handle is low, while the cabinet space is well accessible. Cabinets can be quite high, it’s easy to reach the handle

For a person of short stature or with tall cabinets, a folding lift is more convenient than a rotary or vertical one: the door handle is located lower, you do not need to reach for it to close the door

  • Lifts for folding doors are not inferior to folding doors in terms of ease of use, but the cabinet can be made even higher by gaining free access to the shelves. The most convenient solution, the most expensive mechanisms.

Folding lifting doors - the most convenient solution for the upper tier

All types of mechanisms, except for rotary ones, can be equipped with a door opening system from pressure and electric servo drives.

Doorknobs

Handles - front accessories, an active design element. We will not consider in this article various types of furniture handles, because they are noticeably different visually, but functionally they are identical.

Facial fittings for the kitchen are extremely diverse, the photo shows only a tiny part of the range offered.

However, it is necessary to mention alternative door opening systems that do not have handles:

  • Integrated handles for the kitchen are a groove on the top or bottom of the door, which can be grabbed like a handle. A special aluminum or polymer profile or the groove is milled directly into the facade material.

The profile selected at the top of the door replaces the handle when opened

The solution is quite convenient, you just need to leave a place for a grip above the door. Furniture without handles is ideally combined with the interior, made in the spirit of fashionable minimalism.

Above or below the integrated handles, free space must be left for the hand.

  • The push-to-open systems we already mentioned - no handles needed. We recommend for such cases to choose furniture with a matte surface of the doors. It does not leave fingerprints, unlike glass and gloss.

On the glass door, opened by pressing, distinct fingerprints will always be visible. For this case, it is better to choose a matte facade

Prices for accessories for the kitchen

The cost of furniture fittings directly depends on its type and quality. For example, a standard domestic or Chinese-made furniture hinge costs only $0.25, $0.5 per cabinet. More or less decent roller guides for a drawer - from $ 1.25 per set, ball - from $ 4 per set. The presence of closers and other amenities will significantly increase the price. Simple lifting mechanism for a rotary lift it costs from $30, for folding doors - from $70. You need to understand that cheap products are designed for light doors, they are unlikely to work perfectly and will not last very long. Kinds

Today manufacturers offer more than ten various kinds hinges for kitchen cabinets. This is from the simplest "frogs" to loops with closers of various complicated designs.

Different hinges for doors are attached in different ways.

  • Laid on loop or frog loop. It is a four-link articulated mechanism. It firmly presses the door, allows you to open it 90 or 165 degrees. This type of loop is the most common. It can be found on almost any kitchen set, where there is swing doors. Such hinges allow you to completely close the body of the furniture on which they are attached.

  • Half overlay. It allows you to partially cover the body of the headset. Its structure has a slight bend, due to which a gap is formed between the doors of the cabinet, fixed to one rack, which allows you to open both at the same time without problems.
  • Internal. Outwardly, it is very similar to the semi-consignment note. But its application is different. The inner hinge is installed when it is necessary to place the headset doors inside the box.

  • Inverse. Allows you to open the cabinet door 180. In this case, the door rises flush with the box.

  • corner. By its name it is clear that it sets the doors at an angle. This is necessary for corner boxes. Standard hinges of this category come with an installation angle of 175,135,90,45 and 30. But there are also non-standard corner hinges.

  • Mezzanine. Serves for a canopy of horizontally opening doors of boxes. This type of hinge is based on a spring.

  • Piano. Rarely used in modern furniture due to its unreliability. It is used mainly for book tables, for attaching folding tabletops.

  • Card loop. In fact, this is the same piano loop, only shorter. It is often used in retro-style furniture, for this they make figured execution of these loops, or give them the shape of a butterfly.

  • secret. It has two plates, with the help of which horizontal facades are attached, falling down. They got their name for their use in secretaries. Similar to a piano loop.

  • adit. Mounted on cabinets adjacent to the wall.

  • Card. With their help, folding facades are attached. Such hinges have the ability to fix the cabinet sash. They are attached from the end to the door and the box and allow you to open the structure by 180. Card hinges are very popular on folding tables.

  • Reverse loop. Allows you to open the doors 180 degrees and return back, as at the entrance to the supermarket.

  • Heel. Fastened to the corner of the facade. It can go deep into the sash, but are only suitable for light doors. Therefore, its use is very limited.

Also, hinges differ in their application in certain materials. For glass, plastic, fiberboard, different loops are needed.

There are also two types of hinges that differ in installation. Slide-on are standard hinges and clip-on are instant hinges. Clip-on hinges reduce installation time by up to 60%, due to the collapsible hinge, which has two parts that snap together.

Another type of hinges for kitchen furniture is hinges with a guide. Their price is much higher, but it justifies itself. First, it's convenient. They pushed the door, and it closed further by itself. Secondly, it preserves the condition of the furniture. Since the door closers themselves regulate the closing force of the door, thereby maintaining both the facades and the box itself in their original state. Thirdly, they prevent the sound of slamming doors without irritating the nervous system.

How to install

Overhead installation door hinges on kitchen cabinets - the process is simple. But still it requires a little knowledge and skills.

The tool you will need when installing door hinges:

  • pencil;
  • ruler;
  • drill;
  • cutter;
  • screwdriver;
  • self-tapping screws.

First, mark the placement of the hinge on the door. In order to embed the hinge in the door, you need to drill a hole. To do this, the center of the circle is marked, in which the cup of the furniture loop will be installed. The number of hinges on the door must be at least two and depends on the weight of the door and its dimensions. The distance between the hinges must be at least 45 cm, from the top edge of the door - approximately 10 cm, from the side edge - 2.1 cm. To facilitate the work, you need to make a template in the form of a rectangle with the appropriate dimensions. Then you don't have to measure the distance data for each loop, and there will be less chance of making a mistake.

Now drill the hole. To do this, install a cutter with a diameter of 35 mm in a drill and make a hole 1.25 cm deep. Moreover, if your facade has a pattern with a recess on the outer part, then the depth of the hole should be reduced by a couple of millimeters to exclude the possibility of making a hole through.

Now you need to hang the door on the box.

When you begin to fasten the door, it must be placed 2 mm below and 1 mm to the side of the edge, so that later the facade can be easily adjusted. At the end, the loop is screwed to the box with screws.
