How to clean your computer so that there are no brakes. How to clean your computer from unnecessary files using special programs and services

The question of how to optimize and speed up your PC arises for most users. According to dry statistics, owners of computers two to three years old are concerned about this problem. There are countless reasons that can slow down a laptop and a desktop device. However, do not be afraid, because all of them can be eliminated using a small number of techniques that, firstly, will not take time, and secondly, are not at all labor-intensive.

After reading this article, users will know well how to clean their computer so that it doesn’t slow down on Windows 7/8/10; however, the methods are applicable even for other OSes. A skilled specialist in the IT industry needs no more than twenty to thirty minutes of real time to fully diagnose and clean a computer.

In the rarest cases, this procedure takes up to one hour of real time (this is affected by the age of the PC, the percentage of clutter and the speed of the anti-virus application installed directly on the device). However, as a rule, such a procedure takes no more than an hour for an ordinary user who does not have computer skills.

Well, in the end, after cleaning, you will get a fairly fast working computer or laptop and save some money on visiting a computer service center. You will also make sure that there are no delays in operation (game session) with a specific PC configuration.

OS performance evaluation by WhySoSlow program

To evaluate the speed of your computer and identify the slowest departments, you can use a special program “WhySoSlow”. By the way, the software is translated from English language as "Why so slow?" The test reports of this utility allow you to detect what exactly is clogged in your computer and learn a few tips for troubleshooting.

Among the shortcomings of the application, it is worth noting that it does not have any Russian localization. By the way, this disadvantage is covered by the fact that this utility can be downloaded from the official website of the developers completely free of charge: the program is available at the link below, and this will be the user’s first step in the question of what to do if the computer slows down.

As soon as you launch the software, on the main screen you will see all the features of your OS and components, together with their performance rating. A green checkmark next to the name of the item means that this parameter is in its normal state, and it does not slow down the overall performance of the system. If the item displays a gray mark, you should think about problems with this parameter. A red exclamation mark indicates that this component has obvious problems, and the system “suffers” because of it.

It is also impossible not to mention the fact that the software automatically monitors indicators such as load, speed and processor temperature. The utility automatically compares them with acceptable parameters and warns the user if something is out of control. So, the application will notify you about an overheating event faster than a noisy fan or a moment when the computer slows down too much.

This means that the problem can be stopped at the beginning, without waiting for it to interfere with normal operational work. Also in the software you can track indicators in real time RAM, processor core and hard drive.

Adjusting startup settings

The list of startup items is probably the first place on a PC where you should look for the source of slowdown. These are, naturally, various applications that do not carry any need for themselves. Sometimes you can even detect virus programs in this folder. There you can find a Chinese-made virus web browser that successfully loads the normal Mail service process. This problem can be solved very simply. First, launch the startup menu. (Simultaneously press the “Win + R” buttons and enter the command to configure the OS “msconfig”).

After entering the commands, a menu will open where you can see all the applications activated in an automatic way. Opposite them are check marks. We remove labels from unnecessary elements and greatly speed up the operation of our OS. We strongly advise you to remove this list all applications except the most necessary ones. Get rid of Not necessary programs and files manually is quite easy, and sometimes something can not only be removed from autorun, but also deleted from memory altogether.

A list of main rules that are useful to follow when choosing software to run with Windows:

  • Naturally, we leave the antivirus utility in the startup list. One. Running and generally having a number of programs with this content on your PC is extremely undesirable.
  • Applications that optimize the speed of the OS, as a rule, on the contrary, slow it down. This is especially noticeable on older devices.
  • Randomly starting torrents and messaging applications can cause not-so-powerful personal computers and laptops to freeze. You need to activate these programs only at the very moments when they are needed. By the way, the Internet often slows down precisely because of them.
  • Applications unfamiliar to users. These programs have unclear names and, as a rule, are abbreviations that are difficult to read. Such utilities are most likely viral and should be kept disabled. An exception may be drivers, so make sure they are there before you go into your computer's memory. In any case, you can first check the system for malware.

Analysis and cleaning of virus and spyware modules

All actions of viruses, despite their direct purpose (blocking logins, setting up uncontrolled transition to “bad” sites, stealing the owner’s personal data, and so on), very significantly reduce the performance of any virus, even powerful ones. personal computers and laptops.

However, despite this, it is almost impossible to notice that a virus is operating in your system without using special programs. Well, except for some advertising notifications that display messages on the monitor screen like a huge banner about the system being blocked, some files, or about the installation of new programs.

As a rule, a common sign of virus software is a long startup time of the OS (more than two minutes is already a long time), system load and the presence of already running processes in the startup list. You can view them by turning on the “Task Manager” program using the “Ctrl” - “Alt” - “Del” button combination. To get rid of malicious elements you should:

  • Run an antivirus program and conduct a thorough scan of all areas operating system. Before doing this, it is also recommended to clean your computer, because... it will function and scan faster. Depending on the performance of the hardware and the quality of the antivirus, the scan may take different times. Choose the appropriate software and run it, because nothing bothers you while the scan is in progress, and you can use other methods to speed up the system.
  • Uncheck suspicious utilities and applications. Also uninstall them from your PC through the Programs and Features service. In obsolete Windows versions This column is located in the “Add or Remove Programs” section.

Advice! If the antivirus does not see any problems in the OS and does not find viruses, then it may be worth downloading another program, taking care in advance to purchase a powerful version (for example, Internet Security).

The best thing, of course, is to prevent malware from getting onto your PC. To do this, of course, you need to follow the rules of prevention:

  • You need to use only high-quality and licensed anti-virus software. The best thing that will help you is a paid one, or, as a last resort, a freely published one. It is better not to use shareware. It usually has blocked basic level essential tools.
  • Avoid suspicious web portals. Doubly avoid resources that your antivirus complains about.
  • Do not download installation files of various applications and games from unofficial (pirated) sources. If the list of files downloaded from a torrent contains archives, then be wary, because virus programs are most often hidden in them. It is after unpacking them that you sometimes notice that the computer begins to slow down.
  • Timely installation of new driver versions and uninstallation of old components. Of course, one of current problems reduced PC speed - incompatible or outdated drivers that differ from software created for a specific device or separate motherboard.

Replacing broken drivers

This problem usually occurs when installing drivers not from the official websites of their publisher. This applies to drivers for graphics, network, or audio equipment. If the problem really exists on your PC or laptop, then it is quite possible to detect it by going to the “Device Manager” menu. Login there is carried out using “Start” or the “Computer” section. If a faulty or missing driver is installed in the OS, it will be marked with a yellow marker.

You will be informed about the problem itself in the properties window of the problematic device. There will be a message like: “The device is not functioning properly” or “This device has stopped.” It is in this menu that you can treat the problem by updating or completely reinstalling the drivers.

You should download these same drivers from the publisher’s official website. In addition, the AIDA 64 utility will help you determine which drivers need to be replaced and which do not. By the way, with its help it is also possible to determine the state of PC components, as well as the functioning of the system, and see unnecessary programs that should be uninstalled.

Troubleshooting HDD problems

This problem also occurs very, very often. It affects the operation of the OS quite noticeably. The problem is characterized as a hard drive cluttered with information or simply not working. As a rule, such a failure occurs if the HDD partition is full. A full disk usually glows red.

If the reason for the slowdown in the operation of the OS is precisely a malfunctioning disk (which becomes noticeable by the unnaturally loud noise made by the disk and the mouse cursor stopping right during operation), then this malfunction can be eliminated using the MHDD, HDAT utilities and similar utilities.

The essence of such applications is that they allow you to fix damaged sectors of your hard drive. If “at-home” recovery does not produce results, you should contact IT service professionals. In this situation, do not forget to explain to the technician that it is necessary not only to restore the functionality of the hard drive, but also to preserve valuable personal information, stored on it. If the disk cannot be repaired, then, unfortunately, you will have to buy a new one. But it’s still worth a try, because cleaning a laptop or PC is much faster and cheaper!

Cleaning the disk from unnecessary files

In order for the system to function as it should, leave the minimum required amount of memory. The minimum size is about three to five gigabytes. The maximum recommended is twice the amount of RAM installed on a PC or laptop. Free up space on system disk By disabling the paging file it is possible, but not necessary. The best thing to do is clean up the disk. This is done like this:

  • Go to the “My Computer” menu.
  • Right-click on the name of the system partition and select “Properties” in the context menu that appears.
  • Remove the checkbox from the item: “Compress the disk to save space.”
  • Click on “Disk Cleanup”.
  • Mark the files you need to delete in the list that appears and, of course, confirm the cleaning.

As a rule, as a result of these simple machinations, a couple or three gigabytes of space are freed up. Considering that the system partition is small, this operation is quite fruitful for speeding up the operation of the OS as a whole. As you can see, cleaning your computer with system tools without using additional software is also possible and completely worth it.

Solving problems with various applications

The incompatibility of a number of programs with your OS does not manifest itself in constant freezing of the PC, but only in periodic suspension of work when starting a program. An example of this is two or more antivirus programs running in parallel. This, of course, is under no circumstances acceptable, especially if the user does not have a powerful computer. Antivirus programs After all, they are very demanding of resources. So Kaspersky edition of Internet Security “takes” up to two gigabytes of RAM for normal operation.

If we are talking about some browsers, then the reason for their slowdown and freezing may be one of the incorrectly installed plugins, modules or extensions. If you know how to clear the cache, we advise you to do this too. The procedure is available through the web browser settings, or when using software aimed at this, for example, CCleaner.

Slowing plugins are often installed by virus programs. Their goal is to control access to the Internet. In some cases, by clearing the list of extensions from those unfamiliar to the user, it is possible to increase the performance of working with the browser several times. If there are problems with the performance of a specific program or game, freezes may occur. different reason. Some of them:

  • Incompatibility of hardware and applications.
  • Missing important drivers.
  • CPU heating.

However, if you are unable to identify and fix a specific problem with your slow PC, but the OS is generally functioning normally, the problem can generally be solved by using another utility of a similar type. In addition, many applications have analogues, but they are less resource-intensive and more suitable for certain operating systems.

Eliminating the causes of overheating of computer components

Overheating of the processor very often causes performance problems, both in personal computers and in all laptops. As a result of this problem, the PC may turn off without explanation after a short time from the start of operation.

ATTENTION! Computer overheating, as a rule, occurs for one reason - lack of air circulation inside the PC or laptop.

Overheating occurs as a result of several factors:

  • Ventilation openings clogged with dust or completely closed. This aspect is especially critical for a laptop, since all ventilation there is carried out through the lower part of the system case. To avoid this problem, laptop users are recommended to use special tips in their work. On personal computers, the holes need to be cleaned periodically.
  • Problems with the CPU cooler or power supply. Sometimes lubrication of the cooler rotor helps with this problem. At worst, buying new fans will help you.
  • Thermal paste has expired or its quantity is low. Eliminated this problem by applying a gel to the graphic or CPU. Special programs, for example, “AIDA 64,” will help determine whether heating is the main problem with PC braking.

The heating temperature of the process is also visible in the BIOS, which is entered when loading the OS by pressing one of the buttons (“Del”, “F1”, “F2” or “F10”) The button to enter the BIOS is determined depending on the specific model and developer of the motherboard . Standard value The CPU temperature is kept at twenty to thirty degrees. Although for some processors temperatures up to sixty to seventy degrees are permissible.

Another sign of a problem is very high level fan noise. In this case, it is better to save your computer as soon as possible. Otherwise, the malfunction may affect not only the performance of the OS, but also the functioning of individual PC components. Regardless of the cause of overheating, the computer most likely needs to be disassembled. If you have warranty service, you should take it to the service center to which this model of PC or laptop is associated. If warranty service is not available, you can do everything yourself, well, this is in the case that the computer belongs to you and not to some organization. Otherwise, a specialist or even an entire IT service must take care of its maintenance.

Cleaning your computer hardware from dust and other debris

It is recommended to clean the mechanical components of your PC approximately once every two years, or if serious problems with performance or noise arise. Dust should be removed only where it can be obtained. To increase your productivity, you should use a special antistatic brush and a vacuum cleaner (preferably a car vacuum cleaner, since you will have to remove the nozzles of a regular one and turn off the “wet cleaning” mode).

The most important and basic steps for cleaning components

  • Removing the covers of the system unit and removing all cords (including connections to the monitor, and to the electrical power supply, and to peripherals and everything else).
  • Disconnecting the power supply from other components (motherboard, hard drive and various drives).
  • Moving the block on its side to make it easier to clean.
  • Remove dust one by one from accessible parts of the system unit using a brush and a vacuum cleaner.
  • Disassembling the power supply (in case of problems with cooling) and cleaning dust using the same method.
  • Assembly and further connection of all components.

In approximately ninety-five percent of cases, the cleaning process, of which there are naturally plenty of demonstrations on the World Wide Web, helps to significantly increase the speed of the entire computer. By the way, even if the OS does not show visible problems and there is no sign of a decrease in speed, but the coolers are noisier than they should be, the PC is still worth cleaning to prevent some performance problems.

If there is a need to clean your laptop from dust, get ready for numerous possible troubles and problems. Fortunately, some models allow easy cleaning by opening the bottom cover and removing dust with a vacuum cleaner. However, if you are not able to disassemble and clean your laptop yourself, it is better to contact a special repair shop. The master will really do it better and more reliably. In addition, laptop components are more difficult to attach, and to fully clean them, a thorough disassembly of the device may be required.

General actions to speed up the system

Regardless of what factors caused the PC to slow down, be it virus programs, dust in the computer system unit, insufficient space on the hard drives in use, there are a number of general actions on cleaning the system, which is important to do in any outcome. Following these tips can increase the speed of your computer not by ten percent, but by almost fifty.

Software cleaning

In addition to periodically deleting unused files by the system using the built-in utility, we strongly recommend that you also periodically use software to search for and erase unnecessary and inactive programs.

The CCleaner or Speed Maximizer applications will help answer the question of which program is faster and better than others at accelerating work. Both of these programs are available absolutely free. They not only remove unnecessary data from your PC, but also optimize system elements to improve overall performance. Don't know how to clean the registry and erase the cache? Download the software and it will do it for the user!

Alas, the speed increase when using these applications is small, only ten percent. However, do not forget that these utilities also eliminate the consequences of viruses in the OS, and also erase residual files after updating software components.

Cleaning your computer and manually removing unnecessary files for system operation

After you have used the system cleaning software, we strongly recommend that you also perform a manual scan of your PC, personally deleting unnecessary files missed by the programs. These files are of no use, but they still take up space on local disks. In order to scan the system manually, you must first enable the display of hidden file types.

To do this, you should use the following algorithm:

  • Open the Start menu in any way convenient for you.
  • In it select “Control Panel”. Then - “Folder Options”.
  • Place a check mark next to the display item hidden folders and uncheck the “Hide system and protected files” submenu.
  • Save the changes. Now files that were previously hidden by the system will become visible on the computer.

After doing all the manipulations, we need to enter the operating system directory on the system drive and open the “Prefetch” and “Temp” folders in it. All files found in this folder must be deleted immediately. If you cannot erase them, then it is likely that the system is using them in some processes. In this case, you will be able to erase only those files that are safely moved to the trash.

Windows 7, 8, 10 users need to go to the “Users” folder. Then you need to find a section there with the user name under which you are in the system. Inside the user folder you need to click “AppData”, then “Local”. Now you can try again to delete unnecessary data from the “Temp” folder, but encounter the same difficulties that arose when cleaning Windows temporary files.

Owners of Windows XP will have to do other, albeit similar, manipulations:

  • You need to open the system disk.
  • There you need to go to the “Documents and Settings” folder. Then select the folder that is named like the user name in the system.
  • In this folder you need to open “Local Settings”, in it, in turn, go to the “Temp” and “Temporary Internet Files” folders.
  • Now you need to delete the existing information. Well, or only the one that the system allows.

If you have many accounts on your PC, you will have to take additional steps to clean up some files manually. The difficulty lies in the fact that all the above machinations will have to be done for each user. In order to save time, it is better to do all procedures by logging in as an administrator.

Disable OS visual effects

If you do not have the most powerful computer or laptop, then the system may be very slow due to a fairly large number of active visual parameters. You can disable these effects like this:

  • Go to PC properties in a way convenient for you.
  • Now you need to select the “Advanced system settings” menu.
  • A window will open. There, on the “Performance” tab, you need to uncheck most of the items that are responsible for a more interesting and pleasant display of effects during work. They simultaneously lead to a decrease in speed.
  • It’s better to immediately turn off various menu fading, window animations, smooth scrolling through lists, sliding, etc. Animated elements inside windows and on the taskbar are also not needed.

After saving the changes, the speed of PCs with at least two gigabytes of RAM will increase slightly. Old devices can receive an increase of up to ten percent.

If none of the above helped?

If none of the recommendations suggested here help you, you may have to reinstall the OS or roll it back to the last working state. If you have an optical disk or flash drive with a system image at hand, reinstallation does not seem difficult. The result will be an increase in productivity of up to one hundred percent.

Updating components

By the way, a serious reason for a PC freezing can be a simple mismatch between the computer components and the programs used by the owner. At the same time, such applications will work, although much slower than they should. If you have the opportunity to update components for your personal computer, it is better to do so. However, in some situations you will have to replace the entire system unit.

For a laptop, the option of a complete replacement is essentially the only one. Due to the nature of the structure, not all of its components can be replaced. To avoid problems on this basis, users who love high-quality games or work with demanding applications for graphic modeling should think about the following when purchasing a device: system requirements They only grow over time.

If you take the computer, as they say, with a reserve, then it will run all utilities with excellent performance over the next few years. And when you don’t have the opportunity to buy an expensive computer, we recommend considering these options:

  • Buy an assembly related to budget option. Such PCs will allow you to work on the Internet quite quickly, use normal text editors and multimedia files. An option could be a completely inexpensive laptop.
  • Refuse to use latest versions programs and games, taking their less demanding counterparts of previous years. After all, all applications have their old versions. And games published for recent years, will easily give gamers a couple of hundred hours of excellent gameplay.
  • Increase the amount of computer RAM not by purchasing new sticks, but by using a flash drive. Thanks to the Ready Boost technology built into Windows, the user can use the memory on a flash drive as RAM. A drive that is at least twice the amount of installed RAM will give a very noticeable jump when launching new games and applications.

Results and conclusions

In many, if not all cases, by following all the speeding up tips given here, you will be able to speed up your system and start using games and programs with greater convenience. Now you know how to clean your computer for free and quickly! But so that you don’t have to do this often, you should:

  • Set the OS to automatically select the size of the paging file.
  • Clear your browser cache from time to time.
  • Defragment hard drives.
  • Check your PC with an antivirus in a timely manner.
  • Do not install programs with toys on the system partition. Also, do not store files there that are not related to the operation of the system. When installing a new system, it is worth increasing the size of the system partition. If the hard drive allows it, then ideal option– one hundred gigabytes of space.

Over time, the system becomes full of garbage that slows down the operation of the laptop: unnecessary programs, temporary files, registry entries. You can clean the system and speed up its operation using built-in tools or special software.

How to clean the system

The main thing in cleaning your laptop from debris is regularity. If you have never tried to clean the system, then so much unnecessary data will accumulate in it that you can forget about normal operation. Many users immediately begin to think that the hardware no longer holds up, and they need new laptop or at least a complete reinstallation of the system.

Reinstalling will solve the problem, there will be no garbage left, but you can speed up the system even less in a radical way, which does not involve deleting user data from the laptop. Even cleaning with built-in tools will have a huge positive effect. But in order not to forget anything, let’s create a clear sequence:

  1. Cleaning the desktop. Remove unnecessary files and shortcuts to unused programs.
  2. Checking documents, including downloaded torrents. A typical situation: I downloaded a season of a series, watched it, and left it as dead weight on the disk. Delete - the more space, the faster the system works.
  3. Uninstall unused programs.
  4. Cleaning the disk from temporary files.
  5. Cleaning the registry using CCleaner.
  6. Checking the startup list.

If the file is not deleted, use the Unlocker utility. It independently unloads from memory the processes that are occupied by the file, helping to quickly clean the system of data that, when deleted, gives the error “Unable to delete. The file is being used by another program."

Uninstalling programs

Try to ensure that only valid required applications. It is better to clean the system of software “garbage” in order to free up space and slightly increase performance. There are several ways to remove a program:

  1. Through the “Uninstall a program” applet in the control panel.
  2. Using your own uninstallation file, Uninstall.exe.
  3. Using the capabilities of the Revo Uninstaller utility (there is a free version).

The third option is preferable, because Revo Uninstaller removes the program completely, including erasing entries in the system registry. After a standard uninstallation, traces remain that are not beneficial to the system.

After uninstallation, Revo Uninstaller will offer to clean the system of remaining debris. Select a mode and click Scan.

The program will show the remaining files and folders. Select them and click "Delete".

With advanced scanning, you can erase entries in the registry, so that the application will be destroyed without a trace.

Deleting temporary files

A lot of temporary files accumulate in the system, clogging up memory, which need to be gotten rid of.

The same operation can be performed using the free cleaning utility CCleaner:

Deleting temporary files will empty the Recycle Bin, so make sure there is nothing useful in it before you start cleaning your system. Additionally, you can clean up system files:

Another list of data that can be deleted will be generated. Among them will be old updates, which sometimes take up a lot of space on your hard drive. After generating the list, click “Ok” to clear it.

Cleaning the registry

It also accumulates in the system registry huge amount garbage - records of programs that were deleted long ago. If you uninstalled using Revo Uninstaller, then there will be no entries left, but it won’t hurt to clean the registry in any case - there are still incorrect extensions or wrong rules firewall. Manual deletion is out of the question: it is too time-consuming and dangerous - you can erase the wrong entry and get errors in the system. The registry should be cleaned using CCleaner:

If you have never performed such a procedure before, you will immediately notice that the system has become faster and more stable.

Setting up autorun

To speed up your laptop boot time, you need to clear the startup list. It adds programs that are loaded with Windows. The more applications there are, the longer it takes to launch them. To clear the startup list of garbage:

IN standard list Autorun can only disable programs, but you cannot delete them. If you want to literally To clear startup debris from startup, use CCleaner to speed up your system.

Since you have opened the “Tools” tab in CCleaner, use another convenient laptop cleaning function – duplicate search. Everything is simple here: run the search, look at the result, select which version of the file you should get rid of (usually they are completely identical and created at the same time), and click “Delete selected”.

All personal computer users sooner or later encounter a situation when the computer starts to slow down or runs out of free space on the “C” drive. This a clear sign that it’s time to clean your computer of junk and unnecessary files, otherwise very soon the computer will begin to work unstably or simply stop loading. In this article we will look in detail at how to correctly use some program clean your computer.

There are many programs that can be used to clean your computer. Programs such as “Norton Utilities”, “WinUtilities”, “TuneUp Utilities” clean and optimize the computer system well, but for the average user they will seem too complicated.

In our example, we will look at how to clean a computer using the program "Ace Utilities", it's easy to use and does its job well.

First you need to download it somewhere, for example, type the phrase R12 in the Yandex search bar; “download Ace Utilities rus” and get many results where you can download this program.

So we installed the cleaner program and now let's start cleaning the computer

First, a window will open to create a restore point in order to restore the system in case of any failures, but in my practice this has never happened. “It’s like the non-Russians say R12; plan B"

Don’t touch anything here and click “Next”

So, the restore point has been created, click “Finish”

And here is the main window of the program for cleaning our computer

On the left, select “Cleaning” and on the right, click on “Clean up unnecessary files”

In the window that opens, click on the binoculars in the upper left corner. Scanning of unnecessary files begins. The scanning time may take several minutes depending on the performance of your computer. It will seem that the computer is frozen, but it is not, you need to wait until the computer is scanned

After scanning the computer is finished and the program finds all unnecessary files (garbage), click the “Delete All” button, i.e. "Delete everything." Don’t be afraid to click, nothing unnecessary will be deleted, these are temporary files left over from when installed games or programs that will never be needed again. After deleting unnecessary files, the window will automatically close.

The deletion process has started

Now we need to clean the system registry. The registry stores settings for the entire Windows operating system and all programs installed on it.

Select “Clean up the system registry”

In the upper left corner, click the “Scan” button. Scanning can also last quite a long time, from 2 to 15 minutes.

After scanning is completed, click the “Remove All” button. That's it, the registry is cleared of garbage. This will affect the speed and loading of the computer.

Now you need to select the “Remove invalid shortcuts” tab

Again, click “Binoculars” and scanning begins

After scanning, we see all the unnecessary shortcuts, there can be a lot of them. I recently cleaned out my computer, which is why I have so few of them. Click the “Delete” button as shown in the picture above

Click the “Yes” button, thereby agreeing to the removal of incorrect shortcuts

The next stage of cleaning and optimization is R12; Registry defragmentation.

On the left, select the item “Optimization” and on the right, “Registry Defragmentation”, i.e. Let's put the register in order.

Defragmentation can take a very long time from several minutes to half an hour depending on the performance of the computer, so it may seem. that the computer is frozen, but it is not. You must wait until the program finishes and the window opens as in the picture below

Defragmentation is now complete. Click the “Finish” button, and the computer should reboot itself.

There is one final step left in cleaning the R12 computer; this is hard drive defragmentation, also very important stage optimizing computer performance. It greatly affects the speed of opening programs.

To defragment hard drive, press the “Start” button

select “All programs”

Next, select the “Standard” folder

In the “Standard” folder, select the “Service” folder

In the “Service” folder we find the “Registry Defragmenter” program and run it.

In the program that opens, select the drive that we want to defragment, the main drive is drive “C”, it contains the entire Windows operating system, so it needs to be defragmented first. I have three disks, and you may have 2 or 1, depending on how you were configured in the store where you purchased your computer.

After selecting the disk, click the “Analyze disk” button or you can immediately click on the “Disk Defragmentation” button R12; in this case, the analysis will occur automatically.

Defragmentation can generally take half a day depending on the size of the hard drive, so if you do it, don’t be surprised if it takes a very long time.

So we actually cleaned our computer.

Your computer or immediately after startup? Removing unnecessary programs, files and junk from your laptop and computer should help you, speeding up the Windows operating system.

Users who are faced with a lack of free space or a slow operating system come to the conclusion that unnecessary programs and components are necessary. This procedure is required if there is too little free space on the computer.

As a result, the system begins to work slower, and it is also impossible to install new software. For optimal performance, your computer requires 10% free space on your hard drive.

Let's imagine how to effectively and quickly clean a computer or laptop of debris. In the process of cleaning your computer from unnecessary files and programs, a set of actions is taken:

1. Cleaning on disk D. Delete old information that takes up a lot of space and is no longer relevant).

2. Cleaning files on your hard drive:

  • tidy up the Desktop (there should be only shortcuts and no folders with information);
  • deletes all files from the Recycle Bin;
  • clean the system of temporary files;
  • eliminate outdated programs and games that have not been used for a long time either by the OS or by the user;
  • clean the OS using various utilities.

Removing temporary files from the Temp folder.

In progress software The OS creates temporary files. They are always recorded by the system, and even if the user is simply on the Internet. Over time, the folder with temporary files fills up and takes up a lot of space on your hard drive, which results in errors. To delete these files, you need to go to the following address: My Computer/Local Disk C/Windows/Temp. There are no system files that affect the operation of the OS.

Usually, after installing the operating system, the computer works very quickly, but over time it slows down noticeably and if nothing is done, it may begin to slow down or freeze. In this article we will talk about how to clean your computer so that it does not slow down and works almost as fast as after installation. The article will be relevant for Windows XP, Windows 7 and Windows 10.

If your computer is slow and you want to solve this problem, then you should start by freeing up space on the system disk. It may seem that the amount of free space on the system disk should not have any influence on the speed of the computer, but in practice there is such an influence and it is quite significant.

The fact is that programs need space on the system disk in order to save their settings and intermediate work results (temporary files). And if there is not enough space on the system disk, then programs may slow down noticeably or even freeze. For all programs to work properly, you need to make sure that there is at least a few gigabytes of space on the system disk (more is better).

The easiest way to clean up your system disk is to use the Disk Cleanup utility. To do this, open the “My Computer” window, click right click mouse over the system disk, select “Properties” and in the window that opens, click on the “Disk Cleanup” button.

After this, the system will analyze the files on the system drive and show you what can be safely deleted. Check the boxes next to the files that you agree to delete and click the “Ok” button.

You can also clean up your system disk by removing programs that you do not use. To do this, you need to go to “” and open the “Remove programs” section there.

After this, you need to right-click on the program that you want to remove and select the “Delete” option from the menu that appears.

If uninstalling programs also does not free up enough space on the system drive, then you can try moving some of the user files from the system drive to some other drive. Typically, most user files are located in the following folders:

  • Desktop – at C:\Users\Username\Desktop;
  • The “Downloads” folder is located at C:\Users\User_name\Downloads;
  • Folder “My Documents” - at C:\Username\Aleks\Documents;

You can read more about freeing up space on the system disk in the article “”.

Defragment your system drive

If you have a regular hard drive (not an SSD), then after freeing up space on the system drive, you can defragment it. This will optimize the placement of files on the disk and increase the speed of your computer.

To perform defragmentation, you can use the built-in utility or third-party programs. For example, we will show how this is done in free program Auslogics Disk Defrag Free.

Launch the Auslogics Disk Defrag Free program, mark the system disk and click on the “Defragmentation” button. After this, the program will analyze the selected disk and begin defragmentation if it is really needed. After starting defragmentation, you just need to wait for the process to finish.

Clean startup

After freeing up space on the system disk and defragmenting, it's worth. If there are too many programs in startup, the computer can slow down very noticeably. Therefore, if you want to clean your computer so that it does not slow down, then you cannot do without checking startup.

If you use the Windows XP or Windows 7 operating system, then you can clean startup using the MSCONFIG utility. To do this, open the Run menu using the combination Windows keys+ R, enter the command “MSCONFIG” and click on the “OK” button.

In the window that opens, go to the “Startup” tab. Here you will see a list of programs that are in startup and start automatically when the operating system starts. Study the list of programs and identify the programs that you do not need. In order to remove these programs from startup, simply uncheck the boxes and save the settings using the “Ok” button.

In the operating room Windows system 10 To manage startup, you need to open the “Task Manager” and go to the “Startup” tab. In order to disable autoloading of a program, here you need to right-click on it and select the “Disable” option.

Programs can also start automatically using services. To disable unnecessary programs in services, run the MSCONFIG command and go to the “Services” tab. Everything is the same here, both in Windows 7 and in Windows 10. First you need to check the box next to the “Do not display Microsoft services” function. After this, only services from third-party programs will be displayed in the list of services. You can disable any service installed by a third-party program; this will not affect the operation of the operating system.

To turn off do not necessary services uncheck the boxes next to them and save the settings by clicking on the “Ok” button.

Clean browser extensions

Another place where it could be large number unnecessary programs is a list of browser extensions. Each browser extension creates an additional load, and given that most users have the browser running all the time, this can cause the computer to noticeably slow down.

In order to solve this problem, go to your browser and go to the page with a list of extensions. If you use Google Chrome, then to do this you need to open the browser menu, select “ Additional tools" and go to "Extensions". In other browsers, the list of extensions may open differently.

Study the list of installed extensions and remove those that you do not use. IN Google browser Chrome, to remove an extension, you just need to click on the trash can icon.
