What is made from power tool boxes? How to make a tool box: choose a shape and a drawing for making it yourself. Storage of drills, cutters and keys

Big and convenient drawer under tools - the dream of any master. This is understandable, because in such storage you can compactly put all your tools. Today they are not so expensive, so one of the options is to purchase them in a store or create such a masterpiece yourself. Which option will be acceptable for you? Of course, the purchased one has certain dimensions, but there may be many more tools than can fit in it. But one way or another, you will have to put up with it or run to the store again and buy a new one. It’s a completely different matter to do it yourself: pick up required material and calculated for all available tools and even with the future. Comfortable? Most likely, you will agree with this argument. Therefore, in this article we will talk about how to make such a box yourself at home.

What should HE be like?

If this is a home box, then it can be a regular box with a handle. Well, if you, for example, are a plumber, then it is clear that you will need a box that is more functional, spacious and durable. The organizer will successfully fulfill this role. However, in this article, as an example, we will consider a simple home option- box with handle. So, we will assume that we have decided on the type of box where we will keep all the tools we need, or almost all.

Where do we start? First, let's select the material. It could be plywood, wood or even metal, then we will make the calculations. Only after this can you begin to draw up a detailed drawing. It can be done in the classic way, that is, on whatman paper using a well-sharpened pencil, ruler, compass, square, etc.

Non-classical method - using a special computer program. “Autocad” and “Compass” are precisely “sharpened” to make a professional, accurate drawing. The advantage of such programs is that they will help you avoid errors in calculations and, moreover, you have the opportunity to see in advance what you will get from all this.

These programs will only serve you well if you have certain skills in working with them.

The material has been selected, and now for manufacturing it remains to assemble all the tools that we will need. Of course, the types of tools are individual. It all depends on what kind of box you want. They are also different. But, one way or another, there are universal tools. They are always needed. This is the measuring tool:

  • fasteners;
  • hammer;
  • screwdriver.

Let's start production

We take traditional material - edged board coniferous species. As for processing, this is the simplest and available material, which also has good strength properties.

As planned it will be wooden box, and our task now is to materialize the drawing itself into material. For this task we will need a ruler and a pencil. After this, we mark the material and use a hacksaw or jigsaw to cut out the component parts of the product. If we planned a regular non-closing option, then we need to make five planes: four walls and a bottom.

When assembling, it is usually better to use wood glue. The joints must be cleaned, and only then glue must be applied, after which we firmly press the parts together. Be sure to let the glue dry completely.

After this operation, we can further strengthen the box with fasteners - self-tapping screws. Secured. Now you need to make a handle. It could be ordinary wooden slats, which we need to nail or screw to the upper edges of the side elements.

Organizer

Following the principle “from simple to complex,” let’s now talk about the organizer. It is clear that you can put a large tool in the open-top box described above: hand saw, hammer, mallet and much, much more.

Where do you put the little things? There are all sorts of screws, bolts, nuts, etc. These small fasteners tend to get lost or not be there exactly at the moment when they are especially needed. This is where we need an organizer.

As already noted, this type of box by its design is the most functional in operation. What is he? This is kind of like a box on a box, or rather, many drawers in one section for storing not only medium-sized tools, but also all sorts of small things. Of course, at first glance, it may seem that making such a structure would not be easy. But it only seems. Difficulties mainly arise in the manufacture of the sliding mechanism. Everything else is much easier to do. Now in more detail about the manufacturing technology.

  1. We start by making the main body. It must be open and deep in order for us to place various instrument medium-sized (hammers, wrenches, etc.). We can say that the design of this main body is quite simple, but in essence it is an ordinary box that can be divided into several sections using vertical planes.
  2. The next stage is the production of 4 smaller boxes. You probably noticed that the number of these sections is even, and we mentally divide them into pairs, trying to adhere to the dimensions of their lower large brother when manufacturing. They will be installed on top of each other. One pair of boxes (top) will have lids. They will either be folding on piano hinges, or retractable like a Soviet school pencil case.
  3. Now all that remains is to connect these boxes together. We will do this using connecting strips made of metal. We will need 6 pieces. On one side, as well as on the other side, we hook one plate at a time (short) to connect the two lower boxes - small and large. Two more plates (long) will connect all the boxes together. And finally, the longest bar will serve as a handle, and at the same time connect the two upper floors of the organizer. As you can see, there is nothing complicated here, and the sliding mechanism is extremely simplified, as is shown in the example of a metal organizer - the principle is the same.

Making a metal case for tools

Let's talk now about the metal case homemade. Don't immediately conclude that this is impossible. Of course, only an experienced mechanic can make an organizer out of metal on his own if he has special tools and the appropriate material. Factory-made metal boxes are usually made of lightweight metals such as aluminum so that the box itself is not heavy. Working with aluminum at home is difficult.

In principle, a metal box is a strong word. Rather, an ordinary box will be made of metal. The material that will be needed to make such a box is ordinary soft galvanized steel (about 0.3 mm thick). The tools we need are:

  • square;
  • caliper (marking);
  • sharpened small core or marker;
  • ruler;
  • hammer;
  • anvil (wide metal bar);
  • file;
  • pliers.

Then everything follows the same scenario: drawing, marking. The most interesting thing is that all this can be done directly on a galvanized sheet using a sharply sharpened core (or marker), however you like. We then mark with a marker on the metal those places that we will have to remove.

After this, we proceed to trimming using metal scissors.

After cutting off all the excess we end up with something like this: geometric figure(“winged rectangle”).

Now let's work a little as blacksmiths. For this task, we have an anvil, and, tapping with a hammer, we carefully bend the edges of our workpiece. It is better to do this not chaotically, but in a certain order.

First we bend one side, and then we bend the other.

Now the side panels take turns.

After this, we will begin bending the protruding petals. They will make the structure itself more rigid, and it will not “play.”

We can use pliers to wrap the protruding parts on the top of the box.

After such manipulations, you should carefully go over the entire product with a hammer, straightening it.

In this case, it turned out to be a small box. But using this principle, you can make a similar one - larger, and in the end you will get a metal tool box like this.

So, if you want, everything is possible.

We hope that this article will be useful to you, dear readers. If your tools are organized, then complement it by making a regular tool box. If your tools do not have a permanent “place of residence,” then think about building a two- or even three-story “transformable house” for it. Try to do this, and your tool will always be in place, and you yourself will be pleased to use a product you made yourself in your household.

Video

This video shows how you can make a toolbox from scrap materials:

See how you can make tool organizer cases yourself:

The image of a master is inseparable from the toolbox he holds in his hand.

Moreover, this is not just an element of fine folklore, but a functional device. Sooner or later, the number of tools reaches a critical mass, and all this wealth must be somehow streamlined.

In addition, there are tools that cannot be simply stored in bulk. For example, files or drills. From friction against each other, these objects become dull. And during work, a tool lying around haphazardly forces you to waste time looking for it.

If you need to take a repair kit on the road, for example - you are going to your dacha for the weekend, you need a container for carrying it. Or do you want to separate plumbing and carpentry tool. And a garage kit shouldn’t interfere with other home improvement supplies at all.

So - we need a box to store the necessary devices, consumables and fastening elements. There are many options on sale that are convenient, compact, and practical. Some are real works of art. However, they cost some money.

There is only one way out - make a tool box with your own hands

To begin with, let's decide on the purpose. What kind of toolbox can a toolbox even be?

Portable tool box

It holds a small number of items, usually the configuration corresponds to the type of work. Such a box must have a strong lock so that it does not accidentally open during transportation. During movement, the instrument should not dangle inside; each element has its own niche, and is secured if possible.

Stationary tool box

True, this is a relative concept. They just don’t carry such a box with them to the place of work. It can be carefully moved within the workshop. This design does not provide mounts for tools, but they are arranged in compartments and, as a rule, divided into groups.

Specialized tool box

Unlike the first two options, such storage is intended for a specific group of devices. For example, wrenches, or a set of bits and drills for a screwdriver. In addition to the main contents, maintenance materials are usually placed in such boxes.

Everyone should have tools in their home. When there are too many of them, you can make your own tool box. This essential attribute for storing tools, because it is important that everything is in its place. You can store tools in this case. You can take them with you if required.

Figure 1. Drawing of a tool box.

Materials from which boxes are made

Cases for storing tools can be made of various materials:

  • plastic (very easy to transport, light in weight);
  • metal (heavier, but have a durable design);
  • wooden (light weight, reliable construction).

To make a box with your own hands, plywood is most often used. This is the simplest and most accessible material.

The main stages of work on making a box from plywood

To make the case you will need the following tools and materials:

Figure 2. Toolbox assembly.

  • circular saw;
  • hacksaw;
  • drill;
  • chisel;
  • roulette;
  • clamps;
  • plywood sheet;
  • loops;
  • screws;
  • wood glue;
  • finished pen;
  • strips of rubber necessary for screeding;
  • self-adhesive Velcro;

Before starting work, you need to create a product design; the drawing can be made on paper or on a computer (Fig. 1). Calculations must be performed and the main dimensions recorded. Next, all measurements should be transferred to a sheet of plywood. This can be done using a tape measure, a regular ruler, a pencil or a marker. Blanks for the future design are cut along the drawn lines. It is also necessary to mark all the grooves and cut them on the blanks. All irregularities must be smoothed out using a chisel. Thanks to the grooves, the structure of the box will be stronger.

Figure 3. The tool box handle is attached using glue or screws.

The next stage is the assembly of the structure. To glue the parts together you will need wood glue. The main sides of the box are glued together. They need to be held very tightly while gluing. It is best to tighten the box with special rubber strips and do not remove them until the glue dries (Fig. 2). The corners on the doors need to be rounded.

In addition, the handle can be made from MDF. The design is drawn on wood and then cut out. After the handle is cut, it is necessary to treat the surface, and then attach the handle using glue and screws (Fig. 3). If you don’t want to cut a handle out of plywood, you can purchase a ready-made one in the store. Main criterion choice - strength.

The next stage is assembly and fastening of the outer cover of the case and doors. You need to attach all the parts, and then use a pencil to mark the place for the hinges and secure them.

To attach the outer cover, you need to prepare a hole for the screw.

To organize order in the box you need to make small compartments. The components of the compartments are cut out according to the same principle as the box. Grooves are made and glued together. Places for screwdrivers and other tools can be made on one side of the case. To do this, you need to make an insert with slots from plywood. To attach the cable and extension cords to another wall, you can glue Velcro. You can take special Velcro with a self-adhesive base or glue regular ones with hot glue. The final stage is filling the box with tools.

Making a box from a plastic canister

Figure 4. To make a box, you can use plastic cans instead of plywood.

If it is not possible to make a tool case from plywood, you can use regular plastic canister(Fig. 4).

Materials required for the work:

  • plastic containers;
  • hacksaw;
  • fasteners.

Tara must be rectangular shape and with a handle located in the center. In addition, there should be a screw-on lid that will serve as a lock.

The process of making a box is quite simple. Using a hacksaw, cuts can be made in several directions. The first cut is made in the center of the neck and handle of the container, the stopper must be removed, and the upper wall must be sawed through.

The second cut is made in the horizontal direction. It needs to be done in the upper part of the canister, on the end sides. The container must be sawn from the top wall at a distance of 3 cm, and on the sides - to a depth of 2 cm.

Once the cuts are made, the canister can be opened. To do this, you need to bend the side parts of the top cover with the halves of the handle. Here you can store various materials for fastening: nuts, nails, bolts, screws. The top cover must be closed by folding the handles together. Everything is secured with a screw-on lid.

To make the box strong, additional locks are made on the end walls. You need to drill holes in the walls or lid, insert hooks, bolts and nuts into them.

Making your own tool box is quite easy. The main thing is to follow all stages of work to get the correct design.

By making the case yourself, you can save a lot of money.

Hello everyone!

Today's toolbox is a very irreplaceable thing for every owner. Most of us have a lot of different tools that we may not use very often, but nevertheless we keep them, since more than one repair cannot be done without them. To ensure that the tool is in one place and convenient to transport, we use special boxes. Often we simply buy them at the nearest store; the range and variety allows us to do this. But why not make it yourself? The manufacturing process is not too complicated, anyone should be able to do it, especially with something made with their own hands, which is much more pleasant to use than a purchased version. This article will describe 4 different ways manufacturing of boxes, photo report attached.

Let's start making!

Manufacturing method No. 1

We will need:

Material

Plywood;
- pine board;
- nails;
- wood glue.

Tool

- drill;
- hammer;
- chisel;
- manual milling cutter;
- ruler;
- pencil;
- roulette.

The first thing you need to do is find required material, plywood or cutting boards are suitable for this. Next, according to the presented drawing, you need to make markings, then cut out all the parts of the body. It is necessary to make special grooves in which the partition will be placed; for this we use a hand router or other available tool.

The diagram shows the following body parts:

1 - wall (2 pcs.);
2 - sidewall (2 pcs.);
3 - bottom;
4 - groove along the thickness of the partition and a depth of 1/2–1/3 of the thickness of the material

When everything is ready, all elements of the box body should be sanded. Next, we assemble the body together, fix the parts with wood glue, and then additionally fasten them with small nails.

Now we make a partition for the drawer, cut out a special handle, and use a jigsaw for this.

When the partition is ready, lubricate the grooves with wood glue and install it in its place.

Next, we make overhead handles from the planks and round the corners using a planer. Then we make tool holders from the slats, use a jigsaw and a drill. The holes will serve for screwdrivers, and the square cutouts will accommodate pliers, etc. tool.

To ensure that the box does not get dirty and there is protection from environment, coat the surface with varnish. As a result of the work done, we get this homemade box.

Manufacturing method No. 2

Box-stool

Material

Plywood or OSB;
- wooden beam;
- self-tapping screws;
- wood glue.

Tool

Available cutting tools;
- screwdriver;
- ruler;
- pencil;
- roulette.

We take an existing sheet of plywood, make markings on it, and according to the presented dimensions, cut out the cover (Fig. 1), then the longitudinal drawers (Fig. 2) and the sides (Fig. 3).

Next, we take a wooden beam with a cross-section of 40x50 mm, cut out a handle, and 4 legs with bevels at the ends at an angle of 15°.

Next, we assemble the structure together, using self-tapping screws as fixing elements.

Parts layout:

1 - cover;
2 - drawer;
3 - handle;
4 - leg;
5 - sidewall.

When everything is ready, use sandpaper or grinder round off sharp corners and clean the surface. Next, you can apply a protective coating.

The end result should be such an unusual tool box, which, if necessary, can be transformed into a regular stool, to do this, just turn it over and put it on its legs, with the help of it it will be convenient to reach the place we need, at a time when height does not allow do this.

Manufacturing method No. 3.

Box for a young master.

Does your child love to make things? We suggest making a small box with him where he will store his favorite instrument.

To make a box with your own hands we will need the following

Material

16 mm boards;
- round wooden beam;
- self-tapping screws;
- wood glue.

Tool

Available cutting tools;
- screwdriver;
- ruler;
- pencil;
- roulette;
- clamps.

First, we need to take existing boards with a cross-section of 16 mm, then we make markings according to the provided dimensions, after which we cut the wood into the component parts we need.

The drawing shows the following details:

1 - sidewall;
2 - bottom;
3 - handle;
4 - handle stand;
5 - holder.

Using sandpaper, sand the surface and remove sharp corners. When everything is ready, we begin to connect all the parts together, first we need to connect the bottom and sides, then we install the vertical posts along the marked lines and at the same time we install the horizontal handle.

We fix everything with glue and screws. Then we install special holders for screwdrivers.

Now you can paint, choose the color and coating at your discretion.

The toolbox is ready.

Manufacturing method No. 4

The next version of the tool box is well suited for carrying various equipment that we need, it appearance will be distinguished by solidity and reliability.

To make a box with your own hands we will need the following

Material

The board is no thicker than 12 mm;
- self-tapping screws;
- wood glue;
- pen;
- corners 8 pcs.;
- latch 2 pcs.;
- loop 2 pcs.

Tool

Available cutting tools;
- screwdriver;
- ruler;
- pencil;
- roulette;
- clamps.

To make the box we use wood such as pine, linden or poplar. The most optimal thickness of the boards will be 12 mm.

Next, we make markings according to the dimensions indicated in the drawings, after which we cut them into component parts, as shown in the photo.

The entire list of necessary parts.

In order to make sure that the wood was cut correctly, you need to put all the parts in a single box.

First, we assemble the bottom part and lid of the box; for convenience, we use clamps and corner clamps. We fix the parts together with wood glue.

Then, using a drill, we drill a hole for the screws and countersink the holes.

Now we fasten the body of the portable part, install partitions, and fix them with self-tapping screws.

Next, we install the handle that we need for carrying.

The various designs of tool boxes discussed in the article are united by the ease of doing it yourself. Choose a suitable project and, guided by our drawings and photographs, make yourself a convenient portable storage for the tools and equipment used in your work.

Simple open box

This box is good because the tools in it are located in their places and are in sight. You can’t put a lot of accessories in it, but there is room for the main ones. An open box will come in handy at home, when you need to repair something outside the workshop: you put in the box what is missing and go to work.

A wooden tool carrier is heavier than its factory counterparts, so you shouldn’t plan it to be too bulky. The box will not hit your knees if you make it narrow. The high handle also adds convenience - you don’t have to bend low to pick it up.

Select suitable pieces of plywood and scraps pine boards. Mark and cut out the box parts. Select grooves in workpieces using a hand router or make circular saw two cuts and clean out the recess with a narrow chisel.

Details of the box body: 1 - wall (2 pcs.); 2 — sidewall (2 pcs.); 3 - bottom; 4 - groove along the thickness of the partition and a depth of 1/2-1/3 of the thickness of the material

Sand the surfaces and assemble from blanks rectangular box. Coat the ends with wood glue and fasten the parts with small nails.

Cut out a central partition from 5 mm plywood, the width of which should be 1 mm less than the distance between the grooves in the walls of the box. Mark the location of the arm cutout, drill an entry hole for the saw, and cut the plywood with a jigsaw.

Partition drawing

Apply glue to the grooves and install the partition in place.

Make two linings for the handle from a block with a cross-section of 20x45 mm, rounding the corners of the blanks with a plane. Prepare holders from slats for hand tools: in one, cut out recesses for pliers and pliers with a jigsaw, and in the other, drill holes for screwdrivers with a drill. Using glue and screws, secure the parts to the partition, placing them at different heights.

To prevent surfaces from getting dirty for a long time, coat the box with varnish.

Tool box in stool

In this upside-down stool, you can carry the tool to any place in the house or yard, and by placing it on its legs, you can reach a shelf or hammer a nail where your height is almost insufficient.

Using plywood or OSB with a thickness of 10-15 mm, cut out the cover (item 1), longitudinal drawers (item 2) and sidewalls (item 3) according to the dimensions indicated in the drawings.

Make a handle and four legs with bevels at the ends at an angle of 15° from bars with a cross-section of 40x50 mm.

Assemble the stool, fastening the parts with screws.

Box assembly diagram: 1 - lid; 2 - drawer; 3 - handle; 4 - leg; 5 - sidewall

Round the edges of the lid and the oblong cutout in it, and apply a finishing coating.

Box for a young master

If your child enjoys crafting or tinkering, create a small toolbox with him to hold his favorite tools.

Take planed 16mm boards and cut out the parts according to the drawings. Prepare a round birch stick for the handle.

Drawings of drawer parts: 1 - side panel; 2 - bottom; 3 - handle; 4 — handle stand; 5 - holder

Draw lines on the sides parallel to the edges, corresponding to the positions of the handle posts, and drill through holes for screws between them.

Remove any burrs with sandpaper and begin assembling the box. First connect the bottom and sides using glue and screws, then install the handle stand along the marking lines.

Now replace the second post while inserting the handle into the blind holes. Screw on the screwdriver holders.

Paint the box a color of your child's choice.

Wooden box with lid

The required set of tools varies depending on the hobby or profession, respectively, and internal structure box may be different. The next option for carrying tools is suitable for any equipment and is distinguished by its solidity and reliability.

Use light wood for the box: pine, linden or poplar. Optimal thickness planed boards - 12 mm, thinner ones are more difficult to fasten, and thick ones will increase the weight of the structure.

Required accessories:

  1. Pen.
  2. Corners - 8 pcs.
  3. Latch - 2 pcs.
  4. Loop - 2 pcs.

Mark the lumber according to the drawings and cut the blanks.

Cutting blanks for the box

Table. Parts List

Make sure the cutting is correct by folding the blanks into a box. Sand all the parts one by one sandpaper No. 220 and label them. Assemble the bottom and lid of the box using clamps, corner clamps or mounting brackets to secure the pieces. Apply wood glue to both joining surfaces.

Drill guide holes for the screws and countersink them for the heads, and after fastening the parts, wipe off excess glue with a rag.

Fasten the body blanks of the portable part. Replace the partitions by screwing them on the sides and bottom.

Screw the carrying handle in the middle.

Install support rails inside the box at a distance of 30 mm from the top.

Use fine sandpaper to clean off pencil marks and burrs near the screws, and blow off dust from the surface.

Cover the box with a layer polyurethane varnish, after drying, remove the raised pile with a “null” and repeat the finishing.

Align the hinges with the gap between the body and the drawer lid. Mark and make guide holes for screws 10 mm deep, secure the hinges.

Screw on the corner pads using small screws.

Install the handle and latches on the lid.

Fill the finished box with tools.

If desired, place containers with dividers or cassettes for storing small items in the large compartment of the drawer.

If you decide to add partitions inside the box, make them removable so that you can change the free space for a new tool.
