The main mistakes of photographers. Poor use of flash. Copying photos to a computer via a USB cable

Horizon

The horizon is present in many photographs taken in nature. Whether it's a landscape or a portrait with a fish in front of a lake. This is probably why so many pictures suffer precisely from errors associated with that horizon.

The most common, most easily fixable, and most annoying mistake that appears all the time and is very noticeable is the crooked horizon. In general, there is no need to talk about this for a long time, everyone understands. The horizon should be horizontal 95% of the time. a little the situation is more difficult, when there is no horizon in the frame, but there are other starting elements, such as the walls of houses, the coastline, trees, pillars or furniture legs, for example. It is worth trying to always compose the frame in a natural way. Those. just as we see it with our own eyes without tilting our heads to the right and left.

A less noticeable, but no less amateurish mistake is to place the horizon in the middle of the frame. Especially when the photo is sharp throughout the depth and something - a person, for example, is in the foreground. Then the line of the horizon "cuts" that person with a bang, which does not look very cool, in fact. Except in rare, rare cases, it is worth shifting the horizon either up or down. How much to shift - depends. Usually following the rule of thirds (see below) gives a nice looking result. Where to shift - again, it depends. If you want to show the sky with sunset clouds, for example - place the horizon line 1/3 from the bottom edge of the frame, and if the surface of the lake with a light path - raise the horizon to 1/3 from the top edge. And it is certainly worth trying when shooting portraits to choose such an angle that the person being photographed is wholly placed either "on the ground" or "in the sky."

Which of the above options do you think looks better?

Trees from the head

Speaking of portraits. They also shoot a lot, so very often they come out crooked. And a very annoying curvature is a noticeable object in the background, "breaking through" the figure of the person being portrayed. Like a branch of a tree growing from the head or a span of a bridge passing through the ears. Well, I already wrote about the horizon.

Outdoor portraits are best shot either in even light, such as when the sky is overcast, or when the sun is low on the horizon, i.e. early morning or towards sunset. Under these lighting conditions it is easiest to capture facial features without the black pits of shadows from the nose or eyebrows. If you still need to make a portrait closer to noon, you should make sure that the face is more or less evenly lit, without shadows from foreign objects and a visor.

noisy picture

This is not the digital noise of the camera sensor, but the visual noise. Very often you want to put as much as possible into the frame to make it more interesting. It is not right. When there is a lot of everything in the photo, it is often not clear what to pay attention to, what was the reason for photographing a particular scene. Eyes run over the picture and cannot stop, as a result, the picture causes internal irritation, and one does not like it. It is always worth highlighting the main subject of the shooting. Most often, this can be done by zooming in on it, or by moving closer. When shooting SLR cameras background blur is often applied.

Photographer's ears

Often you get so carried away with the picture that you forget to look at the details. Moreover, the viewfinder or monitor on the camera is small in size. And the so-called "photographer's ears" creep into the details. This is usually an annoying and conspicuous shadow from a person with a camera halfway through the frame. Sometimes it's a reflection. Sometimes even some part of the body or equipment. It seems to me that such mistakes should be avoided :)

Placement in the frame

In general, composition is difficult topic about which countless books and articles have been written. Let's not get too carried away with the details, because there is one simple rule that can improve most of the shots of beginner photographers. This rule is the rule of thirds. It sounds very simple: Mentally divide the frame into three equal parts vertically and horizontally. Always place the main objects of the plot at an intersection or along lines that provide such a separation. What is important in the picture is up to you. Often these are the eyes when shooting people and animals, the center of a flower, the span of a bridge or the same horizon... Of course, you shouldn't make a cult out of the accuracy of splitting the frame. Small deviations in one direction or another are normal, especially since without such deviations it is often impossible to build a frame. But it is better to reduce those deviations to a reasonable minimum. Well, with very rare exceptions, you should not place the subject in the center of the frame. Pictures from this become boring to the point of yawning.

One example of applying the rule of thirds is shooting moving objects. For example, a boat is moving. How to place it in the frame. The answer is simple - you need to place it at the intersection of the lines of thirds, but be sure to leave more space in the direction in which it moves! Those. if the boat floats across the frame from right to left, then it should be placed in the area of \u200b\u200bthe right vertical line of thirds. A somewhat less obvious example is photographs of something "looking", whether it's a person looking at something on the horizon, whether it's a leaning flower. In these cases, it is worth placing the object in such a way that there is more space on the frame in the direction of the "look" than in the opposite direction. Oh, and don't forget about the third, of course :)

It happened!

Very often we hear that one or another frame, in general, successful, but with minor technical errors, got on public display because the author did not know how to fix it. It seems to me that this is the wrong approach. On the present stage development and dissemination computer science, blah blah blah. In short, there are plenty of readily available, even free, image processing programs that you can learn to work with in one or two evenings. There would be a desire. Some of those programs can also make it much easier to store, organize, and post your photos online. I think that Igor (I) will tell us more about such programs, I will only mention Google Picasa and Adobe Lightroom. For a beginner photographer, Picasa is definitely easier to learn, and it's free. Lightroom costs money, but from my point of view, it gives an order of magnitude more opportunities, and in the end, the costs of acquiring and studying this package will be justified a hundredfold. So if you use a digital camera at least on vacation, you should definitely install one of the advanced photo editors on your computer, learn how to use it and start using it. Believe me, it only seems complicated, in fact, the matter is quite simple and, most importantly, it brings deep satisfaction. I would even say - addictive business :)

I see it!

This is the most difficult of all errors to fix. And the topic is very sensitive. Here's what I'm talking about. Today's cameras make it easy to take pictures. Those. taking a picture, downloading it to disk, and uploading it to the Web is almost effortless. But to constantly take good pictures, i.e. learning to take pictures is a much more difficult task. But since the perception of photography is a purely subjective matter, it seems to many that everything is already great for them, they just need to buy another camera, or add an extra lens, or some other stray. And studying, reading complex books on composition and technique, applying that technique, and tritely studying the manual for your own camera is the last century, more forums and your own understanding are enough. Yes, and just do, and so everything is great.

And in fact, not everything comes out. But to notice that it did not work out, the author succeeds not in most cases. Because in order to notice, you need to know what to look at. And to know what to look at, you need to read those same books. You can't get away from this. And excuses like "I see it!" or "So what, what's crooked, but beautiful!" or "I hate the rules, they kill creativity," so those excuses are really only for complacency and justifying their own laziness. Few people are surprised that in order to start playing decently on musical instrument, it would be nice to first learn musical notation and play a thousand or two etudes. No one expects that sitting down at the piano for the first time in his life a person will start playing like Chopin. But for some reason, many novice photographers believe that just picking up a camera, they have already comprehended everything and are ready to shoot like Cartier-Bresson. No, not ready. The camera in hand is only the first step. And then study, study and study again. Well, to end this runt on a constructive note, I offer a short list of three books that are worth reading so that the pictures really start to turn out:

These books are very uncomplicated, although surprisingly profound in their simplicity. And as a result, they became almost modern classics. Honestly, if someone is fond of or is going to take up photography and has not read these books yet, do not regret a few evenings, it's worth it.

P.S. This article needs best examples and for sure - in expansion and deepening. I would be very grateful if our photographers would add, deepen and expand

Oh, Misha, you got ahead of me! I

Oh, Misha, you got ahead of me! For the second week I have been sitting and trying to scribble an article on this topic, and the words were almost the same. But I'm glad that you spoke first, because the question of composition is really fundamental in getting good shot, and the topic is not volumetric, and it would be better if a much more experienced photographer than me started talking about this. Great article, short and to the point! I must say that at first I was rather skeptical about your remarks about the fact that my photographs do not follow the "rule of thirds", and I always sculpted the main object in the center, believing that I need to maximize the area of the image. But over time, the understanding came that this rule arose for a reason and not because of someone's whim, it really gives dynamics to the picture, leaves room for the viewer's imagination and, on a subconscious level, encourages him to think out and develop the plot captured in the photograph. That is, it really makes the picture more interesting and not boring ... And now, looking at my still recent photos, I see how much I was mistaken and ruthlessly send them to the trash if there is no way to correct this matter with a crop.

Well, from the common mistakes of novice photographers, I would note shooting against the sun. If problems with composition and a littered horizon can still be corrected during post-processing in the editor, then the picture where your friend poses in a boat with a trophy with the sun behind him most likely cannot be saved by anything, his face and everything that is facing the camera will turn out to be too dark and contrasting against the background of the bright sun, plus all sorts of iridescent spots from the sun's illumination on the lenses of your camera's lens will be added. So before you take a picture, always look at which side of the sky the sun is and try to get up so that it well illuminates what you are going to photograph. But at the same time, do not forget about the already mentioned "photographer's ears" - that is, make sure that your shadow does not get into the frame or is not reflected somewhere on glass or polished surfaces.

Well, look at those eagles!

Clearly people who are passionate about the matter! These will teach you things that I never dreamed of. So on the next exit, take a notebook, a pencil and take notes, take notes!

Looking at these photos

I looked at these photos that people criticize here, well, I don’t see anything wrong. Probably you need to read all these books to understand this, but on the other hand, why? After all, now I look at the photo and I like it, no matter what it was done , and having gained knowledge, I will begin to talk about littered horizons and shadows. Do I need it?

hmmmmm :)

Sash, maybe this approach has the right to exist. Why not? And on the other hand, you took, for example, a fotik on a trip to the Caribbean or somewhere else. He arrived, began to show the people, and the people politely look like that, but do not show much enthusiasm. Well, patamushta, for example, there is something wrong with the horizon and shadows, and you can’t tell a grandmother from a rum-baba, but those people know about shadows with contours, because they read books ...

All the same, pictures are a memory. And memory is one of the main things that we have as a result of our lives. If with minimal cost labor and nerves can be done to make this memory look beautiful - why not invest that labor and nerves?

Or another version of the answer on sobsnom experience. I didn't want to fish for trout. I didn't even want to try. He kept asking: "Crowds, dirt, where the hell are you going, what the hell are you getting up at. What for is it for me?" And then they pulled me out, and I liked it and even wanted to learn. Not to fanaticism, mind you, not for every weekend. But a couple of times a year, why not leave the float? So maybe you should look through those books? Look and enjoy

Misha, yes I like it

Misha, yes, I like it anyway, I just really don’t see the difference. Well, it’s like for some people Malevich’s Black Square is a painting and a masterpiece, but for me a couple of minutes of working with a skating rink and a ruler. Well, we are uneducated at construction sites, well what can you do, they didn’t accustom them to the beautiful. By the way, my favorite photos are of my children, who are already over 20 years old, of course they are black and white, with all possible defects, but for me the most beautiful and important. and I really like everything that you guys do, I don’t want to do it myself, it’s not exciting. Yes, and the prices are frightening, an expensive hobby. , and my soap dish is already a bit old.

Alex, I think knowledge

Alex, I think that knowledge of the basics of composition will be useful for any person, even if he is not going to do photography. For example, since I got acquainted with these basics, it has become interesting for me to look closely and find how they are maintained (or not maintained) in the works of other authors, and not only in photography, but also in cinema. You watch some episode of the film and suddenly understand why the cameraman placed the main character in this frame in this way, and not in another way, and what he wanted to say by this ... It becomes more interesting to look at the world! Well, then you will subconsciously begin to apply them to your photographs, even if these are the simplest resort shots. And for those people to whom you intend to show them, it will also be more pleasant and interesting to look at them!

interesting. :)

Have you noticed that Lyova and Igor replied to my post with an interval of 1 minute and the content of those answers is very similar? I don't think they got along. From which it follows that either they all have brain harmony in the company and a close coincidence of views, or that the objects of discussion evoke similar emotions in a fairly wide range

Mikhalych! If you weren't there

Mikhalych! If you didn't exist, you would have to be invented. Can you see deeply.

If our company did not have deep harmony and concurrence of views, we would not have the right to be called the proud name "Icemena team"

And this has been verified by a long history in the most different places, situations and in some you also participated, and you will be more than once.

So - get ready

I'll put in my couple of cents

I'll put in my couple of cents, it seems that they were not written about. Or rather, they started, but for some reason the decision did not sound.

And the problem comes up all the time. Its essence is that when capturing a person on a sunny day, he usually has a hat. Sometimes a baseball cap, sometimes a panama hat. As a result, we have a sharp shadow on the face. There are three solutions. Ask the object to raise the visor (unlikely), add a fill light in Picasso when processing a photo (the lighting of the entire picture will change, beautiful clouds in the background may "leave") or turn on the forced flash. The last solution is what I'm leading to. It is written about him on almost every corner, but usually people simply don’t remember such a simple thing, because it’s light, bright sun at the zenith, what a flash?!

But yes, yes :)

  • Log in to post comments

Lesha, thank you, really

Lesha, thanks, really sensible addition. From myself, I can only add that the flash can be used not only to highlight the part of the face shaded by the headgear, but also the whole figure as a whole when you have to shoot in backlight. You just need to know how to put your camera in mandatory flash mode (if it is a compact), otherwise the fully automatic mode will most likely not turn it on, as it will consider that there is enough light anyway.

But yes, yes :)

But yes, yes :)

Thanks Alex for the reminder. We even have an example on occasion.

How great it is to feel in your hands the pleasant heaviness of a newly purchased (or even better - donated) brand new expensive digital SLR camera, which has great amount variety of functions! Agree, at this moment, any person immediately has an irresistible desire to do photography. And, to be engaged seriously, but not anyhow! But moderate, moderate your ardor, friends! Not all at once. You will not become a great master of photography overnight! In the first days, not just days, but even months, and sometimes even years, you will make a huge number of mistakes in photographing!

This article is addressed to those happy owners of brand new DSLRs who have never held them in their hands before. Today we will try to tell you about the most common mistakes newbies make in photography. So let's get started.

Error one

The very first, and perhaps the most common mistake made by beginners is the constant use of the built-in flash when photographing objects that are located far enough away. long distance from the photographer. No one argues that the flash, including the one built into the camera, is a very useful thing. It is especially good to use it to illuminate shadows when shooting outdoors on a bright sunny day (we strongly recommend using the built-in flash when shooting portraits in such conditions!). But if the object that you decide to photograph is at a distance of about a hundred or even more meters- then from a flash, even an external one, and, as you know, they are much more powerful than the built-in ones, there will be absolutely no use. Imagine, for example, that you decide to take a picture of a panorama of a city street at dusk. A flash, even the strongest, will only illuminate what is a couple of tens of meters away from it ... And do not shoot with a flash in a theater, circus or at concerts. There is always enough light on the stage or in the arena to make a high-quality shot. It might be dark in the hall. And where the artist is - light. Even if there are dark scenes in the performance, this is justified by the director's idea, and the blitz of your flash can easily destroy the whole state of mise-en-scène. Moreover, you will not only "destroy" the performance, you will achieve nothing at all! Your picture will not be what the director wanted to show. And in the circus, shooting with a flash is generally dangerous. I don't think there's much need to explain why. A circus artist already works at great risk, and if an unexpected ray of light blinds him, it can end in tragedy. Yes, and animals in the circus can react inappropriately to an outbreak and attack the audience.

Error two

And also very common among beginners in photography. It's about an unknown beast named ISO. What kind of thing is this, how to choose this option correctly when shooting in a particular case, which depends on wrong choice ISO, how other settings will behave after changing it - this is only a small part of the questions and problems that newcomers to photography face. They can easily confuse an inexperienced photographer. That is why we recommend that you first trust the automation of your wonderful camera and set the AUTO ISO option before starting difficult shooting. Even if the automation suddenly fails and lets you down, it will not be as scary as it might seem at first. Without knowing the matter, you yourself can make a much worse mistake. One that, perhaps, cannot even be corrected in the process of post-processing the picture on a computer.

Error three

We strongly recommend that you carefully study the instructions for your camera. Ignorance of everything that your camera can do can even be called a kind of crime. And the punishment for this crime of yours is inevitable. It won't keep you waiting long, we assure you! Without knowing all the functions and capabilities of the camera you are holding in your hands, it is unlikely that you will be able to get the result that you expect to get. And you expect, we dare to assume, beautiful, clear and high-quality pictures that we all see on the pages of glossy magazines. Explore the technical capabilities of your camera! This will help you achieve good results.

Any photographer, including a beginner, must be able to navigate the choice of photographing modes. Carefully study all the levers, buttons and other components and controls located on your camera. In the most thorough way, study all the symbols and signs depicted near them. For those who know what this or that symbol on the camera means, there will be no mysteries and unsolvable questions during the shooting. Well, for example, you must admit, it is not difficult to remember that the P icon indicates the so-called program mode in which your camera can operate. The S or Tv icon is the shutter priority mode. A or Av - aperture priority mode. Full manual control of the camera is enabled by setting the control to the M icon. Some, more advanced cameras also have a number of other shooting modes, which are indicated by the symbols C1, C2 or ETX.

Mistake four

This mistake is a complete inattention of novice photographers to such a wonderful accessory as a lens hood. Well, why, why are you afraid to use it?! After all, it was invented at the dawn of photography just for you and me, photographers! Yes, in order to make the lens hood more convenient to store and transport, the designers of photographic equipment came up with the idea of installing it on the lens, so to speak, in the opposite position (by the way, in this case it also serves as a good protection for the lens itself). But during work, that is, directly photographing, set the lens hood to the correct position peculiar to it! Or have you forgotten why the hood exists at all? Correctly. In order to prevent unwanted light in one case or another from falling on the front lens of the lens and not adversely affecting the image that the lens draws on the matrix. So it’s not far from different glare, reflexes and spots in the picture.

Mistake five

Never forget white balance. If you haven't learned how to properly use white balance, you'll never get the right colors in your shot. The colors in your photo will inevitably be distorted. What's in real life was white, it may appear pink, yellow, or blue in your pictures. Yes, and in general, whatever.

Mistake six

Remember also about such a wonderful feature of your camera as the ability to manual focus lens by rotating the focus ring. In this way, you can perfectly fine-tune the sharpness of the image to exactly the point in the frame that you need. Autofocus mode AF (Auto Focus) is turned off very easily - usually this is done by slightly moving the special lever to one position or another.

Error seven

Although this may seem ridiculous and ridiculous to some, nevertheless, this happens to beginners quite often. Yes, don't laugh! Some sometimes simply forget to insert a memory card into the camera! Well, for example, when you come home from the next shooting, in order to upload the footage to your computer, you remove the memory card from the camera. And after you have thrown off everything you need - in the most elementary way, you forget to pull out the memory card from the computer and return it back to the camera! And imagine that the next day you come to a responsible shooting, turn on the camera, and your display shows an inscription about the absence of a memory card ... That's it. This is a fiasco. Complete failure. Well, if you can quickly run to the nearest store, buy new card memory and still have time to shoot something. And if you have to work in a place where there are no necessary shops nearby? Well, for example, in the forest, in the mountains, in a remote village ... The chances of success will be completely missed. That's why remember about memory. I mean, don't forget the memory card. Better yet, put a spare card in your work bag. This little thing will not take up much space, the bag will not weigh down. And it can always come in handy. After all, the first, main, working memory card can sometimes be completely filled.

Error eight

This mistake consists in ignoring the correct selection of the lens for shooting. Imagine you are going, for example, to shoot landscapes. And in their camping work bag they put a camera into which a long-focus lens is inserted. We arrived at the place. We saw a magnificent panorama of mountains in front of us. Well, how to convey all this beauty in a long-focus picture? No, you can try to do it, of course. But only very experienced master Photo. Or, for example, you came to the shooting of a famous jeweler, and your camera has a wide-angle lens. You, of course, will take a panorama of the workshop, and, moreover, you will do it quite easily and without any problems. But to photograph the hands of the master himself at work, close-up, you most likely will not succeed. For these purposes, a completely different lens is needed.

Mistake nine

For some types of work, do not forget to take a tripod with you. This applies to those types of shooting when you have to take pictures at slow shutter speeds, that is, at slow shutter speeds. First of all, you have to shoot in low light conditions. Well, for example, in the evening or at night on the street. To ensure that the image does not turn out blurry when shooting at slow shutter speeds, the camera must be securely fixed. This will prevent it from moving when the shutter is released. For this, you need a tripod, or, as it is sometimes called, a tripod. Previously, by the way, a tripod was called even more simply - a tripod. Along with tripods, there are also monopods. A monopod is a kind of one-legged tripod. With a camera mounted on a tripod, the possibilities for shooting are expanded to a fairly large extent. If you are going to a party or night shooting- try not to forget to take this much-needed accessory with you.

Mistake ten

And the most, do not be surprised, unusual. When you are going to shoot, make sure you put your camera in your bag. Believe me, it happens that sometimes they forget ...

Hi all! Today I would like to discuss the mistakes of novice photographers and amateur photographers. In my article I will give the main seven mistakes and upload several videos, there will be additions, be sure to write about them in the comments and we will discuss them together. So let's go! 🙂

  1. Free services and dumping.

When starting out as a photographer, many people abuse the setting of very low prices. Hoping to initially attract customers very low prices, and then become popular cool photographers and start raising prices and getting huge money for orders. Any work and the rating of the performer depend on the quality and the time spent on the work, and, as you know, time is money. It is impossible to do work carelessly and receive huge capitals for it. The price of a photographer depends on the quality of his work, and it takes a lot of time to take high-quality photographs and good processing, and therefore it makes no sense to take orders for a penny, because this will not bring income. The customer must respect his photographer and appreciate his time and work, if the photographer himself does not value himself, you should not expect this from others. The right client is willing to pay for a good and quality product. And if not, is such a customer needed?

  1. Equipment not configured

The quality of photographs depends on many factors - this is the light, and the lens, and the flash, and the technique itself. Professionals do not shoot in automatic mode; for each photo, each order, their own settings are lined up. No good photographer forgets to check the settings of their camera before shooting, and will never shoot the same model in the studio, sunset landscapes and a club party. There are force majeure situations when the settings dial is accidentally turned during shooting, so it is highly recommended to check the settings not only between shootings, but also during work. This is especially important to remember if you have a budget camera.

  1. Fear.

Few do not experience fear. But the fear must be justified. The fear of losing photos is a natural state and it is quite normal to make several backups. But the fear of being ready to shoot anywhere and anytime is a sign that a person will never become a photographer. True professionals keep their equipment always ready, and at any moment they are ready to shoot something interesting. In addition, there is a fear of working with people. And if you do not overcome it, good shots will not work. Target good photographer make exclusive bright photos and meet the needs of any client.

  1. The camera's memory is running out, no memory card is inserted in the camera.

Professional photographers usually have a huge amount of work, and memory cards are often full or at the limit, and there is no way to transfer photos to a computer. The main rule of any photographer, if possible, to transfer files to a computer, is to carry additional memory cards with you. And also before any shooting it is worth checking the memory card inserted into the camera. We are all human beings and there is a huge chance that when the workload is heavy, it’s easy to forget which card costs in technology and how much free memory left on it. And be sure every time you go to shoot, you need to check if the photographer has forgotten the memory card in the computer.

  1. Didn't make a backup.

Life is sometimes unpredictable and any photographer knows it. Any technique breaks down, cases are different, so it is impossible to be too careful in this matter. Therefore, it is always worth remembering that there should be at least two or three copies of information stored in different places. The worst thing that can happen is that the information will disappear without a trace forever and there will be no way to restore it. And it's okay if this is an order that has already been processed and received by the customer, but what if these are frames that are in work? Copies of pledge successful work professional and don't forget that.

  1. Dirty lens, dead batteries.

A good photographer is always ready for battle, or rather, for shooting. Therefore, his technique must always be charged, lubricated and polished. The result of the photographer's work, the quality and speed of his work depend on the condition of the camera and batteries. There is nothing easier than putting the camera on charge after each shooting, and wiping the lens in front of it. But for some reason, many people forget about it, as a result, spoiled personnel, nerves and reputation. Personally, I have already ordered spare batteries for the camera, and for the flash I bought it a long time ago.

  1. Broke the camera.

In order to avoid this, it is necessary to carry the camera on a belt, and in the case of transportation, even in a case. When changing lenses, you should also not forget about the belt, then the chances that the camera will fall and break in a hurry tend to zero. Camera main instrument the photographer and without it he is worth nothing. Therefore, to store and protect it is the basis of the foundations.

These are the main seven mistakes of photographers that I have identified for myself. Therefore, a novice photographer should pay attention to them. Below I decided to bring video recordings that are interesting in my opinion, which will complement my article with a vengeance.

Common mistakes made by amateur photographers Digital Photo School

Five mistakes, according to Alexander Ippolitov.

An equally interesting video about ten mistakes from the LIKE photography school in Novosibirsk.

On this I will end my article, as I said above, be sure to write about your additions in the comments. That's all for now! 🙂

If you liked my article, or find it useful and interesting, then be sure to share it with your friends on your social networks:

Everyone can learn how to take beautiful and expressive photos. You just need to be patient and not lose your enthusiasm along the way. After all, starting training, beginners make mistakes that can discourage the desire to continue familiarizing themselves with the art of photography.

Today we offer Top 10 Beginning Photographer Mistakes. Knowing which "pitfalls" are most common, you can avoid embarrassing misunderstandings.

Of course, reading the manual for the camera is not the most fun activity. But often ignorance of the capabilities of their own technology leads to errors. They may even not be so easy to learn if you do not read the instructions in advance.

9. Inept use of flash

As a rule, beginners shoot with a built-in flash. And its use "on the forehead" highlights the foreground, creating black heavy shadows in the background. In addition, such a flash makes the pictures flat.

8. Ignoring the rule of thirds

Very often, when shooting landscapes, novice photographers place the horizon line exactly in the middle of the frame, losing the sense of space. By overestimating or underestimating the shooting point, you can achieve much more interesting photographs of nature. One has only to remember that you should not completely divert the horizon line beyond the boundaries of the frame.

7. Bad angle

The most common mistake is shooting tall buildings and the people below. In this case, there is an illusion of a falling skyscraper or a distortion of the proportions of the human body. Professionals sometimes use this technique intentionally, but for a successful shot in this case, skill is required.

6. Unfortunate frame boundaries

Of course, you can crop pictures in a graphic editor, shifting the main subject or cutting out someone's hands tangled in the photo. But cropping degrades the quality of the photo. So, already during the shooting it is necessary to think over the composition. The simplest rule is to avoid placing the main element of the picture in the center of the frame, as similar photos look static and boring.

5. Cropped subject

Most often, this error occurs when shooting portraits. Cropped elbows, feet, tops and clothes make the photo look stubby. Therefore, trying to shoot your model as close as possible, you should still make sure that everything you need is placed in the frame.

4. Insufficient image sharpness

Most often, such a defect occurs when shooting in low light conditions, when it is necessary long exposure. It is worth remembering that the camera will perceive even the most imperceptible trembling in the hands of the photographer, which means that in such a situation you will need a tripod.

3. Wrong exposure

The exposure value is the amount of light that hits the matrix per unit time. When shooting, exposure compensation is necessary, since the camera does not always automatically select correct settings. The main rule: when shooting bright general plans, you should increase the exposure, when photographing general plans in a dark tone, reduce it.

2. Wrong ISO choice

When shooting, you need to select the minimum sensitivity suitable for the shooting conditions. A higher value will result in a grainy frame, and a lower value will not allow you to take decent pictures in low light.

1. Abuse of graphic editors

Of course, contemporary photographs unthinkable without processing. Shooting in RAW format allows you to correct contrast and correct colors. But it's important not to overdo it. Often novice photographers get carried away by excessive saturation of shades, excessive contrast, or flawless skin in portrait shots. Important rule- keep the naturalness in the photos.

Everyone gets invaluable experience, overcoming difficulties and failures. Everyone makes mistakes. This is what teaches us not to step on the same rake in the future. But, of course, no one wants to fill bumps, so it's best to learn from the mistakes of others and use the experience of professionals.

Consider typical mistakes, which allowed everyone who has ever held a camera in their hands. These mistakes are found both in novice photographers and those who have some knowledge and experience.

What are newbies getting into?

Image blur. This is especially pronounced when shooting at slow shutter speeds. Sometimes blurring is an idea and part of the composition, but most often such images are rejected. What is the way out in this situation? For shutter speed photography, a fixed support must be used. A railing, a table, a bench, or steps are great, but it's best to use a tripod for this purpose. It will allow you to more flexibly adjust the position of the camera.

Cropped parts of people or landmarks. To properly frame a shot, you just need to adapt to your camera and carefully monitor that the subject falls into the frame entirely.

Overexposure and glare from the flash. All reflective surfaces will create glare. they appear as overexposures that hide image details and distract attention. Pictures should be taken, taking into account the possibility of manifestation of this defect. If it is impossible to shoot from an angle at which glare will not appear, then a polarizing filter will come to the rescue.

Poor subject lighting. Whenever possible, flash should be used to illuminate the subject.

Violation of the proportions of the human body. The wrong angle can distort the natural proportions of the body. When shooting from above, a person will appear with a large head and short legs. When shooting from below, everything will be the opposite. If getting such a picture is not your goal, keep an eye on the angle and proportions.

Bad lighting. Poor lighting can result in a flat, dark image. Such a picture can be obtained when photographing against the sun.

Red eyes. To avoid this phenomenon, you should not be on the same axis with the person being photographed or direct the flash light through a reflector or ceiling (wall).

The collapse of the horizon. Many people make the mistake of holding the camera slightly tilted while shooting. The horizon line on the images should be parallel to the bottom and top edges of the image. many cameras can display a grid on the screen to help you frame and frame your shot.

The picture is covered by a foreign object. Such an error often occurs due to the fact that the frame is not lined up. Before taking photos, you need to think about what exactly should be in the picture.

Just one snapshot of a specific object. Often looking through the pictures, you can see that the only picture of a person or attraction did not work out. When photographing something, take multiple shots. This will help you choose the best shot later.

There are many more mistakes that photographers make, but to start learning correct technique photography, you need to remember the basic rules, and always pay attention to the little things.
