Device for installing plasterboard on the ceiling. Methods of attaching drywall to the ceiling using a profile and without a frame. How much does it cost to install plasterboard ceilings?

Today the Internet is replete with photos and videos showing what it looks like modern ceiling. There are many resources on the Internet where you can see finished works. But we will try to talk about whether one person can do them, by considering the difficulties that arise and ways to solve them.

Carrying materials into multi-storey buildings

If you live on the upper floors apartment building, then the first thing you will encounter is the question of how to bring a sheet of drywall into the apartment. This material is 1.2 m wide and 2.5 m high. And regardless of its thickness, it does not fit into an elevator, even a freight one. If we talk about climbing staircases, then this option is also inconvenient, since the material barely fits on the site. Lifting will damage the corners of the drywall sheets, or leave marks on your neighbors' doors.

There is an option to hire people who would do this for you, but since we are talking about how to do it yourself, we offer the following solution: having bought a stationery knife at the store, cut the sheets of drywall in half with it. This size will no longer be a problem to transport material in an elevator. The main thing is not to overdo it with the quantity, otherwise you will overload the elevator and get stuck in it. It is easier to press half sheets of 1.25 m in size to the ceiling than whole ones.

Of course, such a decision will oblige you to comply additional work during installation and puttying. Additional profiles will have to be installed in the ceiling frame to stiffen the sheathing. And when performing putty, you will have to process the extra joints, pre-reinforcing them with serpyanka.

When dividing the sheets in half, make the cut efficiently and evenly. Otherwise, you will later encounter a lot of inconsistencies during the installation process. For a quality cut, use a straight edge. In its absence, a building level will do.

This type of solution will facilitate the installation of the ceiling, but will increase the cost. However, this will not affect the quality of the finish.

Performing markup

As for marking alone, then best solution– use laser levels. With their help, you can mark the required plane without any problems. If you don't have one, use a long level. Preferably longer than 2 meters. With such a tool, marking accuracy will increase. When working with classic levels, the measurement error can reach 2-3 cm. Therefore, when using, turn the tool over and mark on its two sides. This will increase accuracy.

Installation of gypsum boards

Even if you cut the plasterboard sheets, it will still be inconvenient to lift and attach them to the profile. Great solution This issue is the use of a support or even not one, but two. Its task is precisely to press the sheet against the profile while you screw it. The simplest solution is to make such supports yourself. It is easier to do this from wooden slats.

The store also offers such supports, but if you don’t need them later, it’s easier to assemble them yourself. Usually they are knocked down from old door shutters, baseboards, platbands and other material that remains after repairs. The main requirement for them is stability. Do not use material that is too fragile, rotten or rotten.

To make the process of installing plasterboard sheets as easy as possible, consider the following recommendations:

  • use a special mounting belt to attach a screwdriver or drill;
  • use attachments with a magnetic tip, this will simplify some tasks;
  • When choosing a power tool, give preference to a battery-powered screwdriver rather than a corded one.
  • There is a pocket for screws in the mounting belt, use it.

GKL installation technology

To begin installing cut sheets of drywall, follow a certain procedure:

  1. First of all, install the attachment into the chuck of a screwdriver or drill.
  2. Mark the preliminary location for attaching the self-tapping screw to the profile.
  3. Stock up on the required number of screws so you don’t have to constantly go down to get them.
  4. During installation, attach the power tool to your belt.
  5. When climbing onto the scaffolding, lift the gypsum board above your head.
  6. Having assumed a stable position, press the sheet in the place where it needs to be screwed.
  7. Press the leaf with your head.
  8. After releasing the sheet, take a screwdriver and a self-tapping screw and install it into the attachment.
  9. After this, hold the plasterboard with one hand, and screw the self-tapping screw with the other.
  10. In the same position, continue screwing the screws in 2-3 more places.
  11. After hanging the screwdriver on your belt, move to another place, holding the sheet with your hands.
  12. Continue, pressing the sheet with your head, and perform the same manipulations to further fix the sheet in this place.

After the sheet is tacked, further fix it completely.

If such an installation solution is beyond your capabilities, then installing drywall alone will not be possible without supports. This method is especially relevant if you use not half a sheet, but a whole one. In this case, you need to make them and apply them.

The support resembles a mop. The width of the crossbar is about 90 centimeters, and the length is 10 centimeters greater than the height to the frame profiles. You will need 2 such supports. In addition to them, a block measuring from the floor to the frame is used.

The principle of this installation is as follows: install the first support against the wall so that there is a gap for the sheet. You need to lift the second edge and install a support in the middle of the sheet. Another support in the form of a mop is inserted under the second edge of the sheet and expands, pressing the sheet tightly to the frame. You can first adjust the gypsum board so that it fits exactly in its place, and then start screwing it with self-tapping screws.

Another method is to lift the sheet to the ceiling using a specially made device.

The principle is almost the same. The only difference is that you don't need a support in the center.

If you plan to constantly install suspended ceilings, then the best solution for you is this device. It can be purchased or rented.

To simplify installation, use additional clamps. By lifting the sheet and pressing it against the profiles, you can use them to fix it and protect yourself from falling gypsum boards.

To ensure that when screwing a self-tapping screw through a sheet into a profile, the screw remains in the right place, use special attachments for this. They are made with a special limiter in the form of a ring. This will prevent you from twisting the screw deeper than it should.

When constructing the frame, use a thread or cord, stretching it diagonally across the room. This way you can control the plane of the ceiling.

For filing the ceiling, gypsum board with a thickness of 9.5 mm is used; it is lighter and not so difficult to lift compared to 12.5 mm sheets. But wall gypsum boards are stiffer than 9.5 mm sheets.

If the frame is based on wooden beam, then before installing the gypsum board, treat it with an antiseptic. This will help prevent the formation of mold and mildew.

In conclusion, we note that work related to a suspended ceiling can be completed even alone, using these simple techniques and recommendations. Follow technology and follow safety rules.

Drywall is one of the most popular materials for covering ceilings and walls. But at the same time, it is also one of the most inconvenient in single installation. Every master knows that it is extremely difficult to attach hanging sheets on your own, without the help of 1-2 assistants, due to the significant weight of the material, which when using solid panels ranges from 18 to 35 kg (depending on the type of gypsum board) and its extensive surface.

Therefore, in such situations, it is best to use a drywall lift.

What is this article about?

Why do you need a lift?

This device is designed for comfortable transportation of gypsum board panels to a specific installation point, lifting them and fixing them to the frame or directly to the plane of the ceiling and/or wall. The installer can only fasten the sheet with self-tapping screws, without putting significant effort into this, that is, without holding the sheet and without inviting assistants.

In general, a drywall lift helps:

  • In covering frames with sheets of large dimensions;
  • When equipped with a level, it is possible to install panels without additional control;
  • In supplying and supporting other construction materials to hard to reach places, in particular, frame elements.

Types of lifts

Its practical application depends on the type of design.

This is how they distinguish:

  • Wall lift with vertical table for installing sheets on walls or partitions;
  • Ceiling with a vertical stand, for working on ceiling cladding;
  • Universal - with a rotary table to adapt to installation on different planes.

Where is it used?

The standard device can be used in different rooms:

  • In an ordinary room;
  • On the balconies;
  • In narrow corridors;
  • At large commercial, public or industrial facilities.

Where to get a lift

Getting a drywall lift is easy. It can be:

  • Buy - which is beneficial for professional finishers who regularly carry out similar work on sites;
  • Rent - for those who do a one-time ceiling on a small area;
  • Do it yourself - again, this is suitable for master finishers or those owners who decided to twist the gypsum board themselves on a surface with a significant area.

How to choose a mechanism

When choosing a device for carrying and installing material in a store, you should take into account some features and capabilities of the units.

  • Lifting weight - which for regular installation should be at least 30-50 kg;
  • The lifting height is at least 4-5 meters, which, as a rule, is enough for installation in ordinary houses and apartments where the ceiling height rarely reaches even these parameters;
  • Material of manufacture - it is advisable to ignore models with unreliable plastic elements;
  • The shape of the lifting base platform - it is preferable that it be N-shaped, since such bases are considered the most stable;
  • Dual-functional lifting on both horizontal and vertical planes - if the master considers this factor necessary. You can only buy a car with a top lift;
  • Possibility of convenient transportation of the model. Most units are equipped with rollers for easy movement, as well as a collapsible design;
  • Control - can be carried out by jacking manually or by electric drive. Here, the choice again depends on the working area and the regularity of installation.

In the market of construction/finishing materials and tools, a lift for installing drywall is not uncommon. It can be purchased at almost any specialty store. Making a choice in favor of a particular brand is very simple. After all, all branded models are exclusive and focused on the specific needs of installers.

The most popular devices from:

  1. Knauf Corporation. Among those selling out is a lift for plasterboard panels - “Plattenheber”. The device allows you to secure sheets in both horizontal and vertical positions;
  2. Premos Company. If you choose a professional drywall lift, you should pay attention to this trademark. The company’s models deliver material to a height of up to 4.5 meters, and also cope well with loads of up to 100 kg, allowing you to work not only with gypsum boards, but also with heavier panels;
  3. "Edma" are multifunctional models with all their mobility. So the gypsum board lift from this French brand is comfortable to use even in cramped conditions.

DIY lift

If the purchase is impractical for some reason, you can make a lift yourself. There are all the necessary drawings for this on the Internet.

You also need to know the basic elements that make up this device:

  • A tripod is the base on which the entire structure rests. Often equipped with caster wheels with locking components;
  • Telescopic type tripod - made from segments profile pipe, inserted into each other. Recommended sections - 8, 6, 4 cm;
  • Rotary table stand. Mounted on an H-shaped base;
  • The winch is an external beam, purchased separately, since assembling it yourself is problematic;
  • As additional components, a mounting platform and an electric drive can be installed on the mechanism.

When making a device yourself, you need to carefully consider its design and diagram it on a sheet of paper.

A simple assembly step consists of several installation steps:

  1. To manufacture a tripod element, it is necessary to create a base from a 6x6 cm profile pipe. The tripod consists of 3 elements, one of them must be welded, and the other two must have a rotating mechanism; they are mounted to the central rack element. All 3 legs of the tripod are equipped with strong roller wheels;
  2. Then, you need to weld the legs with braces sawn off with a grinder to the base. If desired, they can be made folding or even removable;
  3. The tripod is ready, you can start creating a retractable tripod;
  4. To do this, you need to cut profile pipes - 8x8 cm, 6x6 cm, 4x4 cm. They are inserted into each other, padded in the form of plug elements. Such an element can be square or round. The telescopic pipe is installed on the central post;
  5. A mount for a stand is mounted at the end of the upper tube. It can also be of a removable type;
  6. Next, the table itself is made. For it, you initially need to create an N-shaped platform. Its middle lintel should be of a through type, for retractable supports necessary for volumetric, rigid support of sheets;
  7. The supports are welded into the shape of the letter “T” and secured using quick-clamping mechanisms;
  8. At the final stage, it is necessary to secure the winch tightly. As a rule, the mount is an outrigger beam with braces.

Mini lift

You don’t always want or have the time to tinker with making a capital lift, so you can also make a mini-fixture.

It is made from flat timber with dimensions of 40×20 cm, the height varies according to needs. The width must be at least 90 cm.

  • You need 2 such beams. They are connected to each other using self-tapping screws in the shape of the letter “T”;
  • From the same timber, bridge elements-kerchiefs are made, connecting the vertical and horizontal parts of the “T” in the likeness of a mop, at an angle of 90 degrees;
  • Several such elements are made and they are fixed to the base.

The mini-fix is ready. It is much less convenient to use than a conventional lift; it rather serves a supporting function, but it is easier to work with than climbing with sheets onto sawhorses every time a new panel is needed.

Lifting and attaching plasterboard sheets to the ceiling is not easy, even if you are experienced and have a helper. As a rule, all sorts of devices are used, for example, mops to support the sheet from below or something similar. It is very difficult to cope with such work on your own. The conversation will focus on a device with which it is possible to lift a plasterboard sheet and fix it to the ceiling.

One of possible options lifting structures plasterboard sheets(GKL) and the principle of its operation is shown in rice. a-g. It is constructed quite simply - from ordinary construction trestles, to the legs of which two high posts are rigidly attached. On the upper part of these racks, a light platform is hinged with a stop at its lower part, on which a sheet of drywall is laid. This stage of preparation for starting work is shown in rice. A. The process of lifting a sheet of plasterboard laid on a turntable is shown in rice. god

Scheme and principle of operation devices for lifting and installing gypsum boards on the ceiling: a - initial position of the device - installing the sheet on a lifting and turning platform; b - the first stage of lifting (the platform is fixed and rests on the first folding stand); c - the second stage of lifting (the platform is fixed and rests on the second folding stand); d - final stage of lifting - the platform is fixed in working position.

A device with a lifting and rotating platform for installing gypsum boards on the ceiling.

A distinctive feature of this design is that it provides the possibility of lifting in several stages, which is very important for safe work alone. To do this, two different-high folding stands are freely suspended from below the platform, which, during lifting, are lowered under the influence of their weight and alternately occupy a vertical position - first the shorter one, and then, at the second stage of the lifting, the longer one. You can temporarily support the platform on the stand in a vertical position in order to safely change the grip of both hands and continue lifting in a more comfortable position.

The first stage of lifting - the platform is fixed on the first folding stand.

Both intermediate stop points are shown in Fig. b and c. The height of the first and second stands should be selected based on the following considerations. It is advisable to make the first stop when the lower end of the platform is at the level of the worker’s waist or slightly higher. As a rule, it is in this position that it is convenient to change the grip of both hands in order to continue the lift. A second stop should be provided when the platform is at shoulder or head level. It is more convenient to raise the platform higher (to the ceiling) without climbing up a stepladder, but by holding the second, longer stand with both hands while standing on the floor. This lifting option is more convenient and safe.

On final stage It is more convenient to lift the platform not with a stepladder, but by standing on the floor and holding the second, longer stand with both hands.

In the highest position, when the platform is raised to the ceiling, it is fixed with a pre-prepared and cut-to-length strip ( see fig. G). However, for reliability, it is better to additionally attach the free end of the platform with at least one screw to the sheathing on the ceiling. Having secured the platform, they install the scaffolding and proceed to the main part of the work - attaching sheets of drywall to the sheathing on the ceiling. To do this, the sheet is shifted so that it takes its proper place on the ceiling, temporarily pressed against the sheathing with wedges and secured around the entire perimeter with self-tapping screws. This is how all the sheets of drywall are mounted one by one, each time moving the lifting device to a new place.

For reliability, it is better to additionally attach the free end of the platform with a self-tapping screw to the sheathing on the ceiling.

For covering the ceiling of small rooms, for example, bathrooms, hallways or corridors, where gypsum boards are used custom size, it is better to make the lifting and turning platform smaller in size so that it is more convenient to handle in cramped conditions. It is advisable to make the main part of the device - trestles with high stands - universal. Any construction trestles, which are usually used for constructing scaffolding, with a height of 0.6-0.8 m and with a distance between the leg supports of 0.8-0.9 m are suitable for this. The racks are best made from standard U-shaped profile and embedded in it wooden slats(to give greater rigidity). When attaching vertical posts, it is advisable to move them slightly back from the longitudinal axis of the trestles so that they are located closer to the wall - about 10-15 cm ( see fig. A). This is especially important when working in small spaces.

DIYers do not see the need to purchase a drywall lift, and some had no idea about its existence. This device does not need to be on hand if there is an assistant, but two people use it large number effort for .

An example of fixing drywall using a special lift

In a situation where there is no one to help, you cannot do without this device; you can buy it ready-made, or build a drywall lift with your own hands.

This is very convenient device, with the help of which the gypsum board sheets are installed to the ceiling surface, markings are performed. It is produced like this:

  • the height of the tripod is slightly more than a meter;
  • The device is installed on the lift and secured with clamps, setting it to the desired height.

Considering that a plasterboard spacer lift can lift a sheet of material by 3-4 meters - this height is enough for marking in the highest rooms.

This is what a lift spacer for attaching drywall looks like

The main purpose of this device is to help install large sheets of drywall on ceiling surface. With the help of a lift, you can do the work yourself without help.

The sheet web is pressed tightly to the attachment point using a lift, and is effectively used as homemade options, and production.

This device has other purposes, for example:

  • simplified installation in hard-to-reach places;
  • a hammer drill can be attached to a lift for installing drywall for ease of use at height;
  • raising roll materials under the ceiling;
  • With this device you can lift the massive one and connect it.

Working principle of a drywall lift

Types of lifts

The practical use of lifts depends on the type of structure, of which there are several:

  1. The Premos wall lift with a table installed in a vertical position is intended for partitions.
  2. Ceiling mounted with a vertical table that helps in installing sheets on the ceiling.
  3. Universal Premos – has turntable and can be used on any surface.

The most popular among professionals are universal designs.

Where is it used?

The range of applications of the standard Premos drywall lift is quite wide:

Even if the repairs are carried out by a team of specialists, it is very convenient to use this structure, especially if the ceiling height is more than three meters.

Make a lift for gypsum boards with your own hands

Before you build a homemade drywall lift, you need to know what it consists of:

  1. A tripod is the base for the entire structure, on which wheels equipped with a stopper are installed.
  2. Telescopic tripod - consists of several pieces of pipe of different diameters, for example from 4 to 8 cm.
  3. Table-stand with a rotating mechanism, H-shaped.
  4. Winch - you need to buy this element, since it is impossible to assemble it yourself.

You can equip the mechanism with additional components, for example, an electric drive or a platform.

Drawings

Before you start assembling the structure yourself, you need to draw an assembly diagram. This process is very important, as it will help to assemble the structure without errors.

Manufacturing process

Making a drywall lift is not difficult, just follow a few steps:

  • The base is mounted from a profile pipe, 6x6 cm. The tripod is assembled from three elements, two of which are equipped rotating mechanisms, and one of them is welded to the central element - the rack. It is advisable to equip the tripod with rollers to simplify the use of movement around the room;
  • You can weld slanted legs to the base, with the edges cut at an angle of 45 degrees; they can be permanent or folding.

Diagram with dimensions for self-made drywall lift

As soon as the tripod is ready, you can begin mounting the tripod:

  • Three types of pipes are taken - 4x4, 6x6 and 8x8 cm. They need to be inserted into each other and lined with damped elements. It is advisable to choose a round element, it is more practical. Install the telescopic pipe on the stand;
  • The top tube is equipped with a special mount on which the stand will be installed; you can equip a removable stand;
  • An H-shaped platform is made, in which the middle jumper is through, for installing retractable structures;
  • The table is installed on the platform and secured;
  • For structural rigidity, side supports with quick-clamping mechanisms are installed;
  • The last stage of installation will be the installation of the winch; it is usually installed on an outrigger beam with braces.
Finished design homemade lift for drywall

As you can see, there is nothing difficult in installing a plasterboard lift; all you need to do is prepare the material in advance and be patient.

Industrial lifts

Purchasing a factory-produced system will help lift other sheet materials of a large area up onto the walls, and you can change the angle of inclination of the material. Factory lifts Premos and fit have a number of advantages:

Description of the lift-spacer for plasterboard slabs

To mount sheets of drywall, a special spacer may be useful, which is a lifting rod and two telescopic pipes. The design is equipped with plastic stops and ring clamps. There is a lever for easy release of the clamped rod. This spacer is used to hold sheets in a vertical position.

Operating instructions for a lift-spacer for plasterboard sheets

This device helps to install plasterboard quickly and without assistance, and it has the following advantages:

  1. A rotating base that helps not only move the sheet of drywall, but also move it in any direction to obtain smooth and high-quality joints between the material. It is also used for ceilings.
  2. This mechanism is light in weight and easy to use; its use will not be difficult even for a person who does not have professional skills.
  3. If the installation is carried out by one person, then you need to use at least three spacers, then arranging the wall will not be difficult.
