Drawings of a homemade seeder. Homemade seeder: manual for precise seeding of carrots and beets, do-it-yourself for alfalfa and corn. Shop options for seeders

A manual seeder can be a great helper when working on your site. This design can be purchased at the store, but it will be cheaper to make it yourself. The scheme of this design is very simple, besides, by making it, you can make your own changes. The device includes a reservoir for seeds, as well as a handle. Quite often, the design is supplemented with a steel device that resembles a stick. The seeder can be multi-row or single-row. In the example, a variant of a single-row design will be considered.

Preparation before starting work

If you need a manual seeder, then for its manufacture you need to prepare some tools and materials. Among them, a seed container can be distinguished, which should preferably be made of plastic. It could be a regular bank. The use of a plastic product is convenient because it is transparent and allows you to control the number of seeds.

You will also need a bolt, which will serve as the axis. On it, the jar of seeds will rotate during the use of the device. The manual planter will be made using a plastic pipe, the length of which should correspond to the depth of the can. You should also prepare a steel tube, the diameter of which should be smaller than the plastic one.

Washers will be required to secure the can. To fill the inside of the seed jar, you will need to make a window. The door can be made using canned food cans.

Stock up on a piece of aluminum wire. To make the manual seeder comfortable to use, you will need to prepare a wooden handle for it.

Features of the manufacture of fixtures

To avoid difficulties in the process, it is necessary to study the technology of work. The center should be noted on the bank. Marking will be needed to drill a through hole. The stability of the entire device will depend on the accuracy of the assembly. Next, you need to remove the cover and make another through hole in the side part, which should have a rectangular shape. It will be needed in order to be able to fill the seeds. You can prevent them from spilling out if you prepare a valve from a steel can, the dimensions of which should be larger than the hole. This element will act as a cover.

Construction assembly

A manual precision seeder must be manufactured according to a certain technology, which at the next stage implies the need to fasten the prepared valve with aluminum wire. This must be done in such a way that it is possible to open and close the window.

A plastic pipe should be placed in the central part of the jar, which will prevent the seeds from spilling out. A steel tube should be installed in a plastic tube. In this case, you will get a kind of bearing, thanks to which the can will rotate as it moves forward. When a manual precision planter is made, a long bolt is inserted into the steel pipe in the next step of manufacture. It will need to be tightened with a nut, placing washers at both ends of the jar in advance. This will provide the structure with the possibility of free rotation.

When making a do-it-yourself manual seeder, you need to make notes with a pencil on the side of the container. You need to remove them from each other by 3 centimeters. It is necessary to make holes in advance with a hot nail; when choosing a nail, you need to take into account the size of the seeds. Naturally, if you use small holes, then large seeds will get stuck. On this we can assume that the main part of the work is done.

Making a pen

To strengthen the handle, a hole must be drilled at the end of the wooden element to install the bolt. Then this workpiece is attached to the seeder. At the next stage, you will only need to make sure that the seeds that are in the ground are covered with earth. This will automate the process.

A do-it-yourself manual seeder can be supplemented with some elements. Among them, one can single out a chopper, which should be made from a piece of steel. The workpiece must be bent to make raking the soil easier. After that, the prepared chopper must be fixed on the handle, placing it slightly above the can. That's it - now you can use the tool.

Another option for making a seeder

A manual carrot seeder can be made using a different technology. This process is considered somewhat more complex. To work, you need an aluminum tube with a diameter of 28 millimeters. On it you need to prepare holes, placing them in three rows. Now you can proceed to the manufacture of seed tanks.

To do this, use galvanized steel sheet, the thickness of which is 0.5 meters. This element will be a box of 80x70 millimeters. The height of this tank is 40 millimeters. The lower part, which will be intended for seeds, should be made in the form of a trapezoid with a hole. All joints must be soldered.

At the next stage, the hopper is attached to a frame equipped with wheels and a handle, bolts, and a screw. One of the screws will act as a retainer for the brush, which is located at the bottom of the case. With its help, it will be possible to adjust the sowing density. A manual seed drill can have a cover made of Plexiglas. This will allow you to conveniently control the number of seeds.

The lid must be fixed on the front of the hopper, using furniture hinges for this, it is possible to provide this element with a latch in order to be able to leave it in the closed state.

" Carrot

Planting carrots always takes a lot of time. If seedlings are sown in random order, then as they emerge, they will have to be thinned out and weak sprouts removed. To reduce the time for planting, as well as to plant evenly, use seeders. You can buy them or make your own.

Seeders made for manual sowing are divided into several types:

  1. Fertilizers- are recommended to simplify the process of fertilization or distribution of lime throughout the territory;
  2. garden- designed for sowing seeds for agricultural needs in areas near the house or gardens;
  3. Cereals- provide for landing in vast areas - in grain fields.

A simple seeder can be made from improvised material without spending much money. But all simple devices are made only for the hole, that is, it is often problematic or almost impossible to adjust the required volume of the hole.

If you make a simple do-it-yourself seeder, it is recommended to provide for the moment of planting various planting material. It is necessary so that the hole made of a sheet of iron can be regulated.

The advantages of such a device are:

  • Uniform seeding planting material;
  • Accommodation on the same depth;
  • the same distance between landings;
  • Simplicity in use;
  • Ease in building.

With the help of such a unit, you can quickly land a vast area in a short time. After working with a seeder for carrots, you will not have to pull out extra seedlings, injuring those that remain for further growth.

Manual seed planter

This type of planting technology is used in large areas. It is able to create even grooves, to impose a uniform amount of seeds in them. It can be used not only for planting carrots, but also beets, onions, parsley, lettuce or other small seeds.

The groove is made by moving the wheel, on which special blades or spikes are located. With these growths, the wheel creates holes of a certain size with the same depth.

The device of the seeder is such that a spout extends from the hopper through which a certain amount of seeds is sown. The supply of seedlings is strictly regulated by a special valve.

At the back there is an additional wheel with a smooth surface, which, when moving, falls asleep and compacts holes with planting material.

Some manual planters may have multiple planting rows and also be adjustable for the depth of the indentation.

piston

The piston seeder for carrots looks like a plastic container, of a cylindrical nature. Planting material is placed in it. At the bottom there is an adjustable cone hole for sowing seedlings into the soil. On top of this device is a piston equipped with a spring.

This unit works on the principle of squeezing a certain amount into a pre-prepared recess in the ground. So that the seedlings do not scatter in different directions, the piston seeder is placed 5 cm above ground level.

Some farmers consider the piston planter a problematic device, while replacing it with an ordinary medical syringe. But working with a syringe brings a lot of inconvenience:

  1. When squeezing seeds, they often scatter in different directions;
  2. The pressure on the syringe cannot be controlled, therefore, the seeds are poured out in different volumes.

The piston planting system is designed for large areas, and with a syringe you can’t sow much. Therefore, it is better to use a piston with a springy pressure.

funnel-shaped

One of the simplest mechanisms is a large dispenser with a miniature "nose". The cone that goes into the ground has a hole, the volume of which can be adjusted by the diaphragm inside.

The funnel is installed above the soil surface at a height of up to 15 cm and the preparation is gently shaken.. Seeds, rolling out along the groove, evenly fit into the furrow.

Using such a funnel-bowl, it is possible to achieve regular, even grooves, while not thickened by an excessive amount of seeds.

The disadvantage is the need to adapt or adapt to such work.. If you shake often or strongly, then you can plant the seeds not at all in the groove, but around the entire area.

Planter for carrots from a bar

This planting method is similar to the egg tray planting method. To manufacture a planter from a bar, you will need several plastic covers and a wooden block. Its dimensions can be arbitrary, but it is better to stick to the checked volume of a wooden plank - 5x5x50 cm.

Covers are nailed on one side. The earth needs to be well loosened so that it is airy and soft. The top layer of soil is evenly leveled. The side with the lids is lowered into the soil and pressed. After the bar is raised above the surface, even holes remain in the soil substrate for planting carrot seeds. It remains only to invest the prepared seedlings and sprinkle.

Mini rake for planting seeds

A rake for planting is easy to perform if you have previously had experience with a hacksaw or jigsaw. For the prepared beds, you should pick up a long board, such that it completely covers the area.

Also, for the production of a rake, you will need a block of wood, up to 20 cm long - this will be a handle.

The lower side (end) is subject to sawing. Peculiar cloves in the shape of a trapezoid are cut on it, so that the lower base is no more than 1 cm, and the depth reaches 2 cm. A handle is placed in the center on the flat side. This can be done with a nail. The work on the mini-rake is over.

To perform sowing, it is required to lower an impromptu rake onto a dug up, airy area and run along the perimeter. On the site in an instant, even grooves are formed in which it is required to lay the planting material.

Additional types of seeders

There are many methods for planting seeds. Carrot seedlings present the greatest difficulty for gardeners. They are quite small and difficult to plant evenly. After germination, a very large number of young shoots have to be removed. Therefore, it is recommended to use different methods for planting:

  1. Sowing with toilet paper- Numerous seeds are glued to a piece of toilet paper in an arbitrary or strictly defined order. Later, this area is covered with a small layer of earth. When the sprouts germinate, they do not need to be discharged. The only thing is that weeds sprout abundantly among them. The disadvantage of the method is the long-term gluing of small seedlings on a piece of paper;
  2. Seeder from egg container- an original and simple way. The advantages of the method are simplicity and evenly planted seeds at the required distance. To do this, it is necessary to press the tray into the ground and pour planting material into the resulting holes, 1 or 2 seeds each;
  3. With tape- in specialized stores you can find a special tape for planting carrots. Seedlings are already glued to it in the required order and at the optimal distance. Planting is easy to perform - a tape is applied to the furrow made and sprinkled with earth.

Thus, in order to plant carrots without a seeder at home, you can easily, but before that you need to either spend money or be patient by laying small seeds on toilet paper. But to get a rich, and most importantly, even harvest, you can make any sacrifices.

How to make a manual seeder for carrots with your own hands?

In the case when there is no extra financial resources to purchase a seeder, you can make it yourself. Before work, you should draw up a drawing and an individual design of the future unit. It is best to do everything with simple models.

For production, an axle, aluminum-made tubes, and wheels are required, as well as iron, sheet format. From these parts you can make an excellent homemade seeder without resorting to heavy and costly technologies.

Collection scheme:

  1. Aluminum tubes turn into handles. It requires measuring the angle of inclination and adjusting the height of the seeder for growth, it is best to design the handles “away from you”;
  2. Seed bins are formed from iron in the form of cones or funnels. They are located on the axis so that there is a small space of 1 cm between them;
  3. Each the funnel should go down with a sharp cone, inside which there is a hole 0.1 cm wide;
  4. The central axle is connected to the wheels, bunkers are placed on top of the axis to which the handles are attached;
  5. Additionally, you can optionally install row marker.

Having tested the design, you can adjust it as needed so that the seedlings fall out evenly and at the same speed.

Thus, when using seeders, you can not only plant seeds in your garden or cottage with pleasure, but also spend less time. Besides, when working with technologies of such planting, it is not necessary to remove excess sprouts as the crop grows. If you follow the recommendations, you can make high-quality equipment with your own hands and plant large areas not only of carrots, but also of other crops.

The body of the seeder consists of two side parts (1), one front (4) and rear (3) walls, made of metal plates with a thickness of 1; 5 mm. The parts are connected with rivets or countersunk screws. In turn, the front wall is a mandrel for moving the guide (5) and brush (7). The latter is made from an ordinary flat brush in a metal frame, which is soldered to the guide. The brush is moved by means of a screw (6), which is screwed into an M4 nut soldered to the guide (5).

Do-it-yourself manual precision seed drill first drawing

The main part of the seeder is the axle (2), which has recesses according to the size of the seeds. The drawing shows two rows of such recesses (4 and 6 mm). If necessary, you can make additional rows for other sizes of seeds. The axis can be moved both to the right and to the left relative to the body and fixed in the desired position so that recesses of the desired size are located inside the body under the brush. This is done using two rings (9). The axis is inserted into the housing, then rings with M4 screws are put on it and the axis is fixed in the desired position, while it is important that it rotates evenly without jamming. Wheels (8) are attached to the ends of the axle, which are made of metal 1.5 mm thick. 12 holes with a diameter of 10-12 mm are drilled along the circumference of the rims. Then, a radial cut is made at each hole (see the drawing), the resulting teeth are turned with pliers by 45 degrees relative to the plane of the disk. The wheels are attached to the ends of the axle with Mb screws with Grover washers. A branch pipe from a thin-walled tube of suitable diameter is attached to the front wall (4) for handle attachment.

Do-it-yourself manual precision seed drill second drawing

For the front and rear walls, the size along the length is approximate, it is desirable to make them longer and fit in place when installing the axis. It is important that the gaps between the axle and the walls of the assembled seeder are minimal, that is, sufficient for easy rotation of the axle, but at the same time seeds should not get stuck in them.

So, the planter is ready. Seeds are poured into the hopper (10), having previously installed recesses of the desired size under the brush. The seeder is placed on a well-prepared bed, by pressing the handle, the body is deepened to the recommended (for this type of seed) depth and pulled along the markings on the bed. In this case, the front wedge-shaped part of the body makes a groove, and the seeds that fall into the recesses of the axis fall evenly into the groove. The brush sweeps away excess seeds. Seeding uniformity can first be checked on a flat surface (table, floor, plank, etc.).

Note: on the general view of the seeder, the front sidewall is conditionally shown transparent, so the internal structure is visible.

Sowing on large beds will be facilitated by a do-it-yourself seeder. Then all the seeds will be placed in the ground evenly, without bald spots and crowding. Therefore, below are attached drawings of such mechanical means, assembled by hand. Of course, you can buy the unit in the store. However, a homemade seeder is more economical, easier to use and repair.

Planter Requirements

All home-made mechanisms for sowing must meet the following requirements:

  • evenly distribute the seeds;
  • maintain the desired depth of the soil;
  • ensure row straightness and row spacing.

Adaptation for small seeds (mini seeder) is the dream of summer residents who grow carrots, lettuce, onion sets, i.e. crops with tiny seeds. Seeder for onion sets will save gardeners from tedious thinning. The scheme of this device (photo 1) is simple, it can be adjusted for the comfort of work and obtaining the required results. Onion sets are placed in the seeder from the tank under the seeds. It is placed on the handle. It is rational to supplement it with a metal chopper. She will sprinkle the sowing with earth.

Photo 1. Scheme of a mini-seeder.

The same device for carrots with your own hands can be made multi-row. Then several beds can be sown at the same time. Craftsmen use several tanks.

Such a multi-row seeder for carrots is assembled from:

  • box for seeds;
  • rotating shaft;
  • adjusting the density of sowing brushes;
  • wheels;
  • pens;
  • coulter.

A more affordable device is a manual single-row model. Using her example, it is easier to understand more complex devices (for example, a do-it-yourself vacuum seeder) designed for different seed calibers.

Simple seeder

The principle of the mechanical solution here is simple - this is to limit the spillage of seed to the outside. For this, an open box is used, but with a double bottom. A movable plate is inserted into this space. The seed is poured onto the bottom of the box, where there is a hole slightly larger than a grain, if it is a grain seeder. And in the lower bottom there is a larger hole, but coinciding with the upper hole. When the middle plate is retracted, these holes do not communicate, the grains do not spill out. By moving the plate, the sower will continue to work. However, it is worth filling in a little seed in order to roll them over the seeder to avoid crowding the crops.

Often this movable plate is equipped with a spring drive, which, when pressed, will return it. When using a do-it-yourself seeder for small seeds, sowing will accelerate by 10 times.

When making your own sowing device, it is better to use the following materials:

Photo 2. Drawing of a multi-row manual seeder.
  • a plastic tank for grains, ideally a transparent jar, to control the presence of seeds;
  • a bolt on which a can filled with seed rotates, moving in beds;
  • a piece of plastic pipe, commensurate with the depth of the can;
  • a piece of metal pipe, slightly narrower than plastic;
  • 2 washers fixing the jar;
  • a can door to cover the filling hole;
  • aluminum wire;
  • wooden handle;
  • impromptu chopper.

Seeder in 10 steps

Here's how to make this device yourself.

  1. Mark the center on the plastic jar and drill a through hole. Accuracy is important as a guarantee of device performance and stability.
  2. Remove the lid and make a triangular hole on the side for filling with grains.
  3. So that the seed does not spill out, an impromptu valve (lid) must be cut out of the tin can, a little more than a hole for backfilling. It should be fixed with wire. Rotating, it should be free to close and open.
  4. In the center of the jar should be a piece of plastic pipe. It will not allow the bank to shrink from tightening the bolt.
  5. A metal tube should be inserted into this cut to get a bearing. The can (reservoir) will begin to rotate. Then it will become clear that the homemade seeder is working properly.
  6. Now you need to insert a bolt into this metal tube and tighten it between 2 washers with a nut so that the rotation becomes free.
  7. On the side of the jar with a hot nail, 2 holes should be made. The diameter of the nail should be equal to the caliber of the seed of radish, garlic, onion, which is to be sown.

Of course, such a simple and lightweight garlic planter will be more convenient if made with a wooden handle. Then it will be easy to drill a bolt hole on it to screw it to a rotating tank. Then it is worth automating the backfilling of crops with earth. A metal part that looks like a chopper will do. It should be bent a little so that it rakes the ground. Then you need to attach it to the handle, but above the tank.

Now the manual single-row seeder for garlic, onion sets or carrots is ready.

The principle of using a manual seeder

A furrow is marked with an ordinary chopper. Then this homemade device is placed on it and pushed forward. The tank rotates, so the grains are sown at an equal distance. A makeshift chopper covers the sown soil. The gain is obvious even in large gardens. There is a saving of effort, time and seeds.

A transparent plastic tank allows you to fix the presence of seeds in it. The design itself is easily adapted to each culture. For example, a do-it-yourself radish planter has smaller holes than for corn. The tank is designed for a specific grain size. Captivating and the availability of manufacturing from improvised parts, ease of use.

However, in order to economically and efficiently sow various crops, 3-4 tanks with holes of different diameters are needed. A seeder for corn should be with large holes, for grain - narrower, and for carrots, even with miniature ones.

Universal Seeder Technology

In photo 2 - a complicated design, universal for all cultures.

The steps for creating such a mechanism are as follows:

  1. The sowing shaft is made of aluminum pipe, preferably with a diameter of 28 mm. It is on it that holes are drilled in 3 rows, but of different diameters.
  2. In this case, one row corresponds to a specific grain caliber. For example, in 1 row there are 8 holes with a size of 4.5 mm in diameter. This is for lettuce, parsley, carrots, sorrel, radish.
  3. In the 2nd row there are 16 holes of 5.5 mm for onions. 3 row contains 5 holes of 8.2 mm for peas, beets.
  4. To select the desired row, the shaft is moved horizontally relative to the seed hopper.

The tank is made of 0.5 mm galvanized steel. The dimensions of this box are 80x70x40 mm. It passes the grains into the seeding shaft at the bottom, which is facilitated by the configuration of a truncated trapezoid and a hole. The joints of the box are soldered. Then it is fixed on the frame with two M5 bolts, as well as an M6 screw - a brush mount at the bottom of the hopper, which regulates the sowing density, moving up and down from the shaft.

The transparent cover from plexiglas allows to fill up sowing material in time. Attach it in front of the bunker with a furniture loop and equip it with a latch.

The frame is made of 2.5 mm steel sheet. Strength is necessary, because some craftsmen plan to move the unit using a do-it-yourself connected walk-behind tractor. Its size is 78x85 mm. The length of the sides is 90 mm, and the back and front are 40 mm, i.e. along the length of the bunker itself.

At the bottom, holes for bearings are drilled in the side parts (diameter 28.05 mm). Insert the seeding shaft here. The bracket for the handle is welded to the front of the frame.

A 0.8 mm stainless steel opener is best attached to the frame with two M5 bolts. Its length is 90 mm, and it is bent in the center with a gutter. From this, the seeds fall strictly in their place. It is better to take ready-made nylon wheels. And their axis is still the same sowing shaft.

How the universal planter works

And without a walk-behind tractor, they make furrows under the beds with a rake with their own hands. Fix the desired row on the sowing shaft itself, move the brush. Fall asleep seeds and fix the lid with a latch. Both wheels put the mechanism on the furrows.

Then manually move it forward, and the coulter rakes the earth to the desired depth. Adjust this depth by simply tilting the seeder handle up or down. A depth of 3mm comes out if the tank lid is parallel to the ground. The advantages of this homemade device are ease of use, good performance due to several rows, seed savings.

On plots over 10 acres, a seeder is needed for a mini tractor, a walk-behind tractor.

Factories produce several varieties of such models:

  1. Combined option. Such a do-it-yourself seeder is adapted to a walk-behind tractor, it also introduces fertilizers with seeds.
  2. A special model for sowing specific seeds, a home-made seeder for a walk-behind tractor also corresponds to its scheme.
  3. The universal unit is designed for seed of any size and culture.

Naturally, a successfully home-made seeder for a walk-behind tractor will only work with strict adherence to technology.

Summarizing

It is more rational to use a manual home-made model in small gardens. Significant crops are treated with complex universal devices. After all, they will replace a few simple home-made devices.

Innovations are now being offered that combine the advantages of existing models. For example, a combined unit that also fertilizes crops, plus a universal one (for all crops), plus a do-it-yourself vacuum seeder. Any model is a winning device that saves the gardener from hard work. Its effectiveness is undeniable.

The manual seeder is a convenient and simple sowing unit used by small farmers, owners of summer cottages and household plots. Having simple settings and used for sowing vegetables and herbs, it can be either purchased at a specialized store or made independently.

Description

The simplest single-row manual precision seed drill consists of the following parts:

  • Funnel-shaped hopper for seeds with a capacity of up to 1 liter (1-1.5 kg);
  • 2-support drive metal wheels with lugs, with protrusions 1-3 cm high;
  • Seeding sleeve (drum) with holes with a diameter of 3-5 mm, located on the same shaft with drive wheels;
  • Opener wedge-shaped;
  • Mounts for the handle in the form of a tube screwed to the front of the seed hopper.

In addition to such a simple design, there is also another, more advanced and reliable. The single-row model of such a seeder consists of:

  • Rectangular frame;
  • Seed hopper up to 2 liters with a tight-fitting lid;
  • Seeding unit - a bushing mounted on a shaft with an asterisk for chain transmission. At the same time, the sizes of the holes on the sleeve range from 3-4 to 16-18 mm;
  • Opener with a harrow installed behind it for filling the furrow with the seeds laid in it;
  • Front drive wheel;
  • Drive chain mounted on the sprockets of the front wheel and seeding unit;
  • A wide rear press wheel with a bracket for cleaning it from dirt and adhering wet soil;
  • Marker for adjusting row spacing;
  • Forked handle with length adjustment.

Such seeders produce sowing of such vegetable crops as:

  • Eggplant;
  • Peas;
  • Carrot;
  • Cucumber;
  • Pepper;
  • Parsley;
  • Radish;
  • Beet;
  • tomatoes;
  • Beans.

Also, with the help of such seeders, you can sow rows of herbs-melliferous plants: alfalfa, sweet clover.

manual seeder

Important! For sowing non-standard seeds, many practical gardeners buy bushings without any recesses and make holes in them of the appropriate diameter on their own.

Among the types of manual seeders described above, the first ones are used for sowing small beds of small-seeded crops in greenhouses and hotbeds, while the more productive second ones are used for sowing large-seeded vegetable crops in open ground.

Principle of operation

The mechanical precision seeder of the simplest type works as follows:

  • A seeding sleeve with holes for a particular crop is mounted on the drive shaft
  • Seeds are poured into the bunker;
  • With the help of a marker (for seeders of the second type described above), the row spacing is set
  • The seeder is installed at the beginning of the first row of the sown area;
  • With a smooth and jerk-free movement, the seeder is set in motion;
  • The process of sowing seeds hidden from the human eye occurs as follows: each seed fits tightly into the hole in the sleeve, then, when it rotates, falls into the groove made by the harrower, falls asleep.
  • With a press wheel at the rear of the planter, mounted exactly in the center of the row being sown, the soil above the seeds is thoroughly compacted. This improves the contact of the seed material with the soil, accelerates its germination, absorption of nutrients and moisture by the sprout and its root system.
  • When working with such an aggregate, the sower must periodically check the amount of seeds in the hopper, filling it with new ones if necessary.
  • After sowing is completed, the remaining seeds are poured out of the hopper, the sowing sleeve, coulter, harrow, support wheels are removed and cleaned. The drive chain and sprockets are periodically lubricated with special grease.

Important! When operating the planter, check the coulter, which may be clogged with grass or damp soil. If such an operation is not performed, gaps may appear - unsown places that can be detected only when shoots appear.

When the seeder is working, it is necessary to check the coulter

Characteristics

The manual precision seeder has the following characteristics:

  • The number of sowing units (rows) - for modern models, it ranges from 1 to 5-7;
  • Type of sowing device - sleeve or brush;

Important! The brush metering unit consists of a drum with brushes and a calibration disk mounted outside the hopper. The principle of its operation is as follows: when the drum with brushes rotates, the seeds fill the space between them and are pushed into a certain hole in the calibration disk, which is installed opposite the outlet window of the sowing unit.

  • Type of harrow - most manual sowing units are equipped with lamellar harrows;
  • Opener type - wedge-shaped (naralnikovy);
  • Capture width - in multi-row (2 or more row seeders), this characteristic averages 7-8 cm. In single-row units, the row spacing is adjusted by changing the length of the marker and can be up to 50-60 cm;
  • Seeding depth - from 1 to 5 cm;
  • Capacity (volume) of the seed hopper - the seed hopper of various units can hold from 0.4-0.5 to 2 liters of seed material;
  • Type of transmission of rotation from the drive wheel (wheels) to the sowing unit - direct (the sowing units are located on the same axis with the drive wheels) or chain (the sowing unit is connected to the drive wheel by means of two sprockets and a chain);
  • The recommended speed of the seeder is 3-4 km/h;
  • Productivity - from 2-3 to 10-12 acres / h.

Important! When typing in the search for this unit, the service often in the search hint gives out such an option as “sekisvalni seeder”. Following this hint will not bring any benefit to the user, as it relates to the field of dating, erotic videos, and photographic materials for adults.

Manual precision seeder

Adjustment

In manual seeders for seeds, before sowing, the following settings are made:

  • Seeding rates;
  • Seed planting depths;
  • Row spacing.

These settings are very important for quality sowing.

Seeding rate

The accuracy of the seeding rate on different types of sowing units is regulated in its own way:

  • In sleeve sowing units, the seeding rate is regulated by the selection of a sleeve with the corresponding holes and the pitch between them;

Important! In order to make a sleeve with non-standard holes and a pitch, you can buy a blank and, having marked it according to the given parameters, make recesses (holes for seeds) of the required diameter.

  • In brush metering units, the seeding rate is adjusted using a calibration disc with holes. The sowing rate is adjusted by setting the corresponding hole on the calibration disk opposite the output window of the sowing unit.

Embedding depth

The seed placement depth is adjustable in seeders with a chain drive of the sowing unit. The adjustment process is as follows:

  • The seeder is installed on a flat area;
  • A plate with a thickness equal to the planned sowing depth is placed under the rear press wheel;
  • Using the adjusting bolts, the coulter is lowered until it touches the floor. At the same time, not the tip of the coulter should touch the floor, but its entire lower plane.

Row spacing

The row spacing is adjusted by changing the distance between the metering units or extending the marker. The latter option is more convenient and allows you to make large aisles when sowing, for example, a crop such as corn.

Manufacturers

Among the manufacturers of manual seeders, the most famous brands are such as:

  • "ROSTA";
  • "GARDENA";
  • SOLO.

Do-it-yourself seeder

You can make a homemade precision seed drill with your own hands using the following technology:

  • A seed hopper of the required volume with a lid is made from tin;
  • In the lower part of the hopper, a hole is made for the shaft of the sowing machine;
  • Two bearings are welded on the outside of the hopper on both sides. They are welded in such a way that the center of their inner diameter coincides with the center of the hole for the sowing machine shaft.
  • An asterisk is welded to a metal axis 4-5 cm longer than the seeding coil. On the other side of the shaft, a hole is made for the stopper - a cotter pin.
  • A seed box with a coulter from an old pneumatic seeder is attached to the bottom of the hopper;
  • A rectangular frame with two crossbars is cooked from a corner or plates. The short ends are not welded.
  • A comfortable two-horned handle with length adjustment is welded to the frame;
  • In front of the frame, a wheel from a bicycle is mounted - a clamshell with an asterisk;
  • A wide metal wheel is attached to the rear of the frame;
  • The bunker with a seed box and a coulter is welded to the frame cross members;
  • Sowing sleeves with holes for various crops are made from round cross-section of ebonite or dense plastic blanks. A hole of the same diameter as the driven shaft with an asterisk is drilled in the center of the resulting bushing.
  • The sleeve is inserted into the neck of the hopper, a shaft with an asterisk is passed through it, which is locked with a cotter pin from the outside;
  • A chain is put on the sprockets of the shaft of the sowing unit and the drive wheel;
  • Before starting work, the chain and sprockets are lubricated with special grease.

Important! You can make a roomy and comfortable planter from a separate section of an old corn or vegetable planter. To do this, it is necessary to make a handle in the rear part and install a wheel with an asterisk in the front part of the section and connect it with a chain to the seeding device shaft. Due to its heavy weight, such a seeder is not convenient for a girl, a physically weak teenager, an old man. At the same time, its reliability and durability will be many times higher than that of other home-made counterparts.

A manual seeder for vegetable crops and small seeds (grass and lawn mixtures) is a handy device that will greatly facilitate the sowing campaign both in a small area or in a greenhouse, and in medium-sized areas where there are no access roads for tractors. Any of the household can use such a seeder - even a teenager. It has no dangerous moving parts and is easy and time-saving to set up. Such a technique is economically beneficial - each vegetable grown with its use will have lower labor costs and cost compared to manual sowing.
