Drying for spoons and forks with your own hands. Dryer for dishes in the closet and other design options - features of different solutions. What to do if the facades of the drying cabinet do not have decorative ventilation grilles

A place for drying dishes, today is an indispensable attribute of any kitchen. Often, a dish dryer is mounted in a kitchen set, becoming a built-in part of the furniture structure. The rapid development of scientific and technological progress, which brought dishwashers into our lives, could not overshadow the trend of using dish dryers. Although an automatic dishwasher does all the work for us: it washes, dries, but sometimes the dishes only need to be rinsed. This can also be done manually.

But where to dry the dishes, because the daily use of cutlery is limited to a set amount, often only enough dishes for two people? A small number of plates that are used every day are conveniently placed in the dishwasher. This will provide convenient and quick access to it. In this article we will tell you what dish dryers are, as well as how a do-it-yourself dish dryer is made.

Types of dish dryers

There are two main subsections of dryers:

  • Embedded in the kitchen set;
  • Placed independently from the headset (external drying for dishes).

Stand types:

  1. Embedded. These include:
    • Those that are built into the upper hanging bedside tables.
    • Those that are built into the lower bedside tables.
  2. Independent. These include:
    • Dryers that are placed on the countertop.
    • Wall.
    • Hanging on rails.

In most kitchen sets, the dryer is an element built into the cabinet - this is an ergonomic and practical solution. All cutlery is hidden behind the facade of the bedside table, does not occupy the working area and does not attract the attention of guests. Therefore, the need to make a dryer for dishes with your own hands disappears. But this is not always the case.

Dryers built into wall cabinets

This type of dryer is the most common. As a rule, they are placed in cabinets that are located above the dishwashing area. Such a small trick of furniture developers makes it possible to reduce the number of movements that housewives make in the process of washing dishes. By placing such a dryer under the dishes in the sink area, the hostess can simplify furniture care and reduce the frequency of washing it. So, drops of water from the plates will drain into the sink, and not onto the work surface.

Classification:

  • Drying on a frame or without it.
  • Single and multi-level structures that extend for drying tableware, including corner dryers.

With or without frame

In order for the cutlery to dry evenly, it is necessary to create favorable conditions in the bedside table, in which the dryer is built-in:

  • As a rule, they are produced without a bottom edge, thereby ensuring good ventilation of the cabinet.
  • To make the design more stable, the dryers are equipped with a special frame that functions as the bottom of the cabinet.
  • Occasionally they are made with a bottom where two holes are made from which a lattice is formed.

Important! Both types of dryers are suitable, both with and without frames.

Single-level frame

Frame drying, which ensures the strength and stability of the structure, is made for a specific model of the bedside table from high-strength material. When choosing this type of dish dryer, you must know the parameters of your product and the thickness of the material used for manufacturing. It will not work here, so knowing all the parameters is simply a must. Often, do-it-yourself dish dryers for cabinets are made of 18 and 16 mm chipboard.

Important! The main environment for using single-level dryers are horizontal hanging bollards. Their main difference is in the gratings. You can put both plates and glasses on them.

Multilevel

Multi-level dish dryers consist of two parts:

  • Top rack for glasses and cups.
  • Bottom grill for plates.

Important! The placement of the gratings can vary, depending on the wishes of the customer.

Corner dryers can be distinguished as a separate subsection adapted for drying dishes. Thanks to the L-shaped design, the interior space of the corner cabinet can be used more rationally.

Important! A characteristic feature of corner dryers is their design. They are made only with two doors, and they are intended only for installation in bedside tables of a standard size of 60 by 60 cm.

Floor structures

A pull-out dryer in a floor cabinet will be appropriate in a kitchen equipped with a dishwasher. Due to the fact that it is quite difficult to provide ventilation in the lower cabinets, the dishes that are placed in such a cabinet should already be dry.

The dishwasher does a great job. Therefore, the dish dryer, located in the lower cupboard of the headset, will rather serve as a place for practical saving of cutlery - everything is at hand and in one place.

Important! Dryers that are built into floor cabinets can also be either single or multi-level.

Separate dish dryers

The advantage of stationary types of dryers that do not depend on the configuration of kitchen furniture is that they can be installed in any place convenient for you. It can be both a work surface and an apron rail. Such dryers are popular among the hostesses of older models, with characteristic furniture parameters that differ from modern standards.

Important! Such dryers are characterized by their small dimensions. Some types can be easily transformed to suit the conditions: they can be installed both in the cabinet and on the countertop. By the way, you can easily make a dish dryer with your own hands.

Dryer for dishes made of wood

The assembly of a dryer for kitchen appliances, like the design of any other piece of furniture, consists of several stages:

  • Pre-cut prepared pine or spruce blocks with a jigsaw.

Important! On average, their size should be 1 cm for cylindrical sticks and 2 cm for laths and 1 cm for cylindrical sticks.

  • Sand all surfaces thoroughly.
  • At the base of the design, drill holes for the side rails that will hold the dishes.
  • Assemble the frame by connecting the longitudinal and transverse structural elements.
  • Glue the side partitions at an angle.
  • Make the surface waterproof by over-priming, sanding and varnishing with several coats.

Using your imagination, you can create an exclusive do-it-yourself dish dryer for the interior of your kitchen. Such a product will serve not only as an irreplaceable thing, but also as a bright addition.

Drying pencils

A very original souvenir for the kitchen can be made using the most unexpected items. For example, an interesting drying for kitchen utensils can be obtained from pencils:

  1. Take a wooden cutting board or just a piece of wood as the base for the coaster.
  2. Mark the holes on the board. The holes should be located in the place where the racks will stand in the dryer to hold the dishes.
  3. Pencils are used as racks.
  4. Drill holes with a drill and insert pencils pre-lubricated with glue into them.

The original do-it-yourself dish dryer is ready!

7) In order to hold the magnetic jars upright, you should also have magnetic board.

Original idea of use magnetic caps, which are attached to the side of the refrigerator. Instead of regular magnets, you can keep spice jar magnets on the surface of the refrigerator.

Another option for storing spices - double deck coasters. They will save a lot of space in the lockers:

By the way, spice storage shelves You can make your own with plywood and nails.

Spices can be stored in special drawers, which are made to order for maximum space savings.

The original way of storing spices is in jars, the lids of which screwed on from the underside of the shelf. When taking out spices, you will have to unscrew the jars from the nailed lids.

Storing vegetables in the kitchen

Some types of vegetables do not need to be stored in the refrigerator or on the balcony. What's more, it can get very cold in the winter, so vegetables are often moved to heat to keep them warm. Vegetables are most conveniently stored in the kitchen in special drawers.

In this article: dryers for dishes, description of the model range, selection criteria, methods for self-assembly of grates for storing plates and cups in hinged corner and straight cabinets, providing full ventilation for kitchen cabinets with dryers.

It would seem that when choosing and installing dish dryers, we should not be in for all sorts of surprises. However, this is not entirely true, since some problems may arise if you purchase not the most suitable model. In this article, we will consider the types of dryers for dishes, their design features, performance characteristics and the possibility of self-assembly. Useful tips will also be given on which drying is better to choose in a given situation.

Model range of dryers for dishes

Retractable drying nets designed for installation in the lower row of cabinets have already been mentioned earlier, so let's proceed to the review of the rest of the model range, which is not so small.

Two-level drying for dishes- the model mounted inside the wall cabinet consists of two grids, fixing fittings and one or two pallets. Tanks for collecting water can be made of both plastic and metal (stainless steel, aluminum). The kit may have a bottom frame, its purpose will be discussed in more detail in the installation section. Two-level dryers are installed in modules having a width of 400, 450, 500, 600, 700, 800, 900 and 1000 mm.

Single level dish drying- the design is completely identical to the two-level model, with the only difference being that it has only one grid for storing plates. It is chosen as an economical option both with a lack of space in a wall cabinet, and in order to save a small amount of money.

Two-level drying for a hinged corner module- a lattice product that has two modifications: meshes in a frame and without it. Designed for installation in all types of corner cabinets with standard dimensions. Corner drying has no fundamental differences from the main rectilinear model, the only difference is that each level consists of two joining elements. There are also instances that are additionally equipped with a rear support column, which securely holds both perpendicular gratings, which form a single structure between them. Although these dryers are quite roomy, 30% of the dishes end up in a hard-to-reach place. This factor should be taken into account when you make a choice, because sometimes you need to remove some of the plates or cups in order to get the object of interest to you, which is located deep in the cabinet.

Hanging (rail) drying for dishes- a model that is placed on a kitchen apron, or to be more precise, it is hung on a specially fixed tube (railing). It is mainly used in small kitchen sets, when their owners do not have the opportunity to allocate space in the hanging modules for storing dishes. It can also be used as a decorative element if you place expensive beautiful plates and cups in it. In addition, hanging (rail) drying is quite easy to use, you can store in it the minimum necessary for daily use of dishes so that they are always at hand. In this case, this model is purchased as an auxiliary one, since it is impractical to look into the cabinet every time, for example, because of one cup. The described models have a width of about 500 mm, they are equipped with small compartments for plates, cups, spoons and forks. Like built-in dryers, they have a tray. You can buy such a product by paying from 1000 to 1500 rubles.

Table dryer for dishes- a design whose purpose is clear from the name. Pretty easy to use model. If you can afford to set aside a place for it somewhere near the sink, then you can’t think of a better option. Such dryers are not very popular precisely because of the lack of space on the desktop, and because many consider their appearance to be unpresentable. The reason for such a stereotypical negative opinion is a huge amount of low-quality products sold in the markets and in incomprehensible shops. Meanwhile, there are quite decent models that can decorate any kitchen set and have excellent performance characteristics. Moreover, you can buy a desktop drying, suitable for a variety of styles of kitchen design. Of course, the use of the described models implies not only the presence of sufficient space for its placement, but also beautiful sets. If you are not very concerned about the aesthetic component, then in this case it is not difficult to choose a suitable dryer that will “survive” the furniture itself. The cost of such models ranges from 1500 to 3000 rubles. There are cheaper dryers, but you have already been warned about their quality.

Drying in a cupboard without mounting hardware- this is a frame made of steel wire with a decorative and protective coating (sometimes stainless steel or aluminum is used), which has a different number of levels and design. It is equipped with a plastic tray for collecting water and is inserted into a wall cabinet without being fixed in it in any way, and is perhaps the most impractical model in all respects. She is preferred when they do not want to deal with self-assembly or pay for the services of a master. Such a model costs an average of about 250-400 rubles.

Typically, the bottom racks are recessed for holding plates, while the top racks are flatter and used as cup coasters. In addition, some models are equipped with a kind of mesh containers for spoons, forks and other small items. Typically, table and rail dryers are distinguished by such a variety of forms.

Production material and protective and decorative coating of dryers

Almost all types of dryers are made from the same material as drawer baskets with nets. Only in this case, the requirements for the quality of the wire and for the galvanic coating are especially high, since the grates will have to be in contact with water during the entire service life. In addition, in many modules, due to their insufficient ventilation, increased humidity is observed. As you understand, all this contributes to the corrosion of the metal and premature deterioration of products from it. Who likes drying covered with rust?

To avoid such wear, only models with a high-quality protective and decorative coating should be purchased. Painted frames are out of the question. If you don’t have enough money to buy a dryer made of stainless steel or with a 4-layer galvanic coating, then give preference to a model whose metal parts are coated with plastic using a special technology. They cost a little more than painted gratings, but are virtually invulnerable to moisture. Agree, it’s unpleasant to open the cabinet doors and see shiny nets, which are covered with rust in places. Such a sight has become quite common, as many manufacturers violate the technology of applying chrome or nickel plating. Moreover, your attempts to remove rust can only aggravate the situation, since the decorative and protective layer is broken even more, a kind of chain reaction is obtained.

From all this, only one conclusion can be drawn: it is best to buy and install products made of stainless steel. Of course, there are quite a few high-quality models that have excellent electroplating, but they tend to be more expensive. Therefore, the best option that fully meets the "price-quality" parameter is stainless wire drying.

What should ideally be a hanging module with built-in dish drying

The problem of dampness in the drying cabinet is not uncommon in our kitchens. Because of it, the grids deteriorate, furniture canopies rust, the chipboard surface loses its aesthetic qualities, and over time, body parts swell, gradually absorbing moisture. Therefore, a few practical tips regarding the choice of the most suitable model can be useful regardless of whether you decide to order a kitchen or decide to remake an existing set. Consider an example of a wall cabinet made to meet all requirements.

The choice of drying is, of course, one of the most important points. The material has already been mentioned in the previous section, but we have not yet touched on some design features. For example, it is preferable to buy a model that has a frame in its configuration. It is a conventional rectangular frame assembled from rectangular aluminum tubes and plastic side mounting strips. Such frames replace the lower shelf of the module in which the dryer is installed. Such a measure eliminates the swelling of the bottom of the chipboard due to accidental ingress of water on it (there is no detail - there is nothing to spoil), and the void at the bottom of the cabinet ensures its ventilation.

In addition, other parts of drying are no less important. We are talking about pallets and mounting hardware. It will be better if you choose a dryer with metal containers to collect water. Plastic and silicone pallets deteriorate faster and are not as reliable. Even taking into account the fact that there is no bottom in the cabinet, it is not necessary to allow drops of water, gradually flowing down from cups and plates, to freely fall on the countertop.

Grids must be fixed on special mounting plates made of plastic, which are screwed to the locker body with euro screws. If they are snapped onto separately located bushings, there is a risk of them falling out after a while. This is especially true for wide dryers that hold a large amount of dishes. Also, the mounting plates are equipped with special slots into which pallets are inserted. This design is more convenient, especially for drying with a frame, only such models are suitable.

Close attention should be paid to the facades. Replacing the lower shelf from chipboard with an aluminum frame, although it reduces humidity, is not able to provide ideal ventilation for the interior of the drying cabinet. Air will circulate only if there are still holes somewhere. For such cases, facades with gratings are provided, their use in conjunction with the installation of the frame will ensure not only faster drying of the dishes, but also allow air flows to draw the evaporated water out of the module. Thanks to this, the module with drying will be free from dampness and insured against the occurrence of fungus and mold. That will extend its life and keep the presentable appearance of the entire headset. After all, one minor detail can spoil the overall impression of the furniture.

Such a design and equipment of a hinged kitchen module with a dryer will both extend its service life without the need to perform any repair work, and guarantee a pleasant operation of this furniture.

Self-installation of drying in a wall cabinet

A sufficient number of inexpensive factory-made kitchen sets are not equipped with dish racks. Some stores provide installation services, but they are not available everywhere. And the reasons why your kitchen does not have a dryer can be more than enough. After all, you just might want to replace the old model. This is not the point, but the possibility of self-installation. By the way, this process is simple and does not require much time. You have familiarized yourself with the description of the almost ideal module, with the models of dryers too. Based on this information, you can accurately determine which grids to give preference to, and we will describe two installation options.

Installation of a white drying grid with a PVC coating

First, you should pay attention to one nuance regarding the choice of such drying. Do not purchase such nets with a width of more than 700 mm. Also, when buying, pay attention to the thickness of the wire. For the described models, this is doubly important. Since they are the most inexpensive, it would be simply naive to expect some amazing quality from the source materials. Although, despite the low price, this type of dryer has quite tolerable characteristics, their significant and, one might say, the only drawback is the possible deflection of the lower deep grid for plates. Therefore, with a module width of more than 700 mm, give preference to more expensive models made of stainless steel or with high-quality chrome plating.

In addition to the rigidity of the grids, the reliability of fixing the mounting fittings in the vertical racks of the module should be taken into account. The nets of such dryers are snapped into the slots of the plastic bushings, which are driven into the body of the chipboard. If the plate is loose, and the load on this fitting is large, then no glue will help. After a certain period of time, the bushings will begin to fall out of the nests, because the quality and density of factory chipboard often leaves much to be desired. This is another important factor that speaks in favor of the fact that for such models there should be a length limit of 700 mm.

Before describing the procedure for performing work, you need to touch on the topic of dismantling the cabinet a little more. The advantage of white pallet dryers without an aluminum frame is that the grids are easy to install without removing the module. It is enough just to unhook the facades, but they can also be left in place if they do not interfere with you. Mounting the grids for plates and cups is carried out as follows.

First, the inner sides of the vertical racks of the pedestal are marked, where the places for drilling nests for mounting bushings are marked. In order not to be mistaken at this stage, you need to measure the depth of the module and the distance between the supporting transverse rods of the metal gratings. Subtract another value from one and divide the difference in half, these will be the desired values. For example:

  • A (300 mm) - module depth
  • B (225 mm) - the distance between the centers of the twigs
  • C \u003d A - B / 2 \u003d 300 - 225/2 \u003d 37.5 mm - the desired value

The value of B for the lower and upper mesh may differ, so each detail must be measured.

The resulting value is the distance from the front and rear edges of the upright to the center of the drill. But, of course, it alone is not enough, you still need to correctly determine the height at which both gratings will need to be fixed. This is also not difficult: put a grid for plates on the bottom shelf of the cabinet, move it to one of the side racks so that the twigs come into contact with the chipboard and mark one of the points with a marker and add 40 mm to this value (do not forget about the pallet), this and will be the next desired value. When taking all measurements, make sure that the mounting sleeves will not be in line with the mounting strips of the furniture canopies, if necessary, just position them a little higher. In the case of a rack for plates, the latches cannot be lowered down, as the drip tray may not fit. The top grid can be moved depending on the circumstances. By the way, the marking of the second level of sockets for bushings should also be made taking into account some factors. Sometimes, when the grids are placed too close together, some plates will not fit between the two grids. However, they should not be bred too far apart. Firstly, it will be inconvenient for you to get cups from the second tier. Secondly, for them in this case there may also be too little space between the grid and the roof of the cabinet. Measure the plate of the largest diameter, given the fact that you can’t place dishes wider than the barrel of the module in the cabinet. If its depth is 300 mm, then the distance between two levels of bushings should be a maximum of 350 mm. When planning to use plates with a smaller diameter (about 230-250 mm), this value can be reduced by 80-100 mm.

After marking, you need to drill 8 holes to secure the bushings. Here, too, there are subtleties. Mounting accessories for dryers from different manufacturers differ in their dimensions. The difference in diameters is small - only 1-1.5 mm, but this is enough. This means that in order to avoid errors, it is necessary to perform control drilling on trimming, thus selecting a suitable cutting tool. Do this on some pruning, not forgetting to immediately put a stopper on the drill so that when performing basic work, you do not pierce through the rack. Use a caliper to determine exact values. After conducting such an experiment, when its results satisfy you, you can proceed to the main drilling. Check at the end of this type of work with a caliper the result of their implementation. If there are inaccuracies, correct them immediately, since it is highly undesirable to drive in and then remove the sleeve from the chipboard (especially with a loose structure). Before installing the fasteners, drop a little PVA emulsion into each socket. The latch is inserted into the socket, holding it with your hand, hit it not very hard a couple of times with a small hammer so that it is slightly fixed in the hole. Then set a small block of wood on top of it and with stronger blows drive it all the way into the body of the upright. Do not overdo it, otherwise you can ruin the sleeve. Residues of glue are removed with a well-wrung damp cloth.

You do not need to immediately insert the gratings. Let the emulsion harden, the nets can be fixed the next day. This is done very simply: each of the four ends of the support rods is inserted into the slot of the sleeve and snaps into place by pressing on the wire, clicks will notify you that the grate has fallen into its rightful place. Sometimes hard plastic makes this process difficult, no need to be nervous about it. Put a screwdriver blade on the edge of the rod and hit with a hammer on its handle, everything should work out. Try not to break the protective layer of the mesh, use some material as a layer.

That's the whole installation process, it remains to insert the pallet and attach the facades in place if you decide to remove them.

Mounting the dryer with a frame

In the case when you are ready to part with a more serious amount and perform work, the complexity of which and the volume of which exceed the installation of an inexpensive white dryer, then this section is for you. A stainless steel product with a frame is the best option for equipping one of the kitchen cabinets with a drying rack for dishes.

Unfortunately, in this situation, one cannot do without dismantling the cabinet case. So you have to take it off the wall. But you do not need to completely disassemble the module, just unscrew the facades and remove the bottom. Carefully slide a flat metal object (a narrow spatula works well) between the back of the shelf and the back wall, and gradually rotate it around the staples or studs that hold the fiberboard. This method will allow you to most carefully, without damaging the back wall, disconnect it from the bottom.

Particular attention is paid to this moment, since most frames for dryers have a depth of 280 mm, similar dimensions of the module can exceed this value, amounting to 300, 320 and even 350 mm. The aluminum rectangle is fixed so that its front bar is in line with the front side of the case. This means that with a greater depth of the pedestal, the gap between the frame and the fiberboard can reach 70 mm. If the lower part of the rear wall is damaged during dismantling, the defects will be clearly visible.

In the case when the fiberboard still turned out to be damaged, you can get out of the situation with the help of the lower shelf removed from the body. It is necessary to cut off a longitudinal strip 80 mm wide from it, paste over the ends with a melamine or PVC edge and screw it near the back wall. Moreover, such a drawer should not come into contact with fiberboard with the end part, but with a laminated surface, its width is quite enough to hide all defects. The decorative strip is screwed on with confirmations, which previously held the bottom of the hull. Naturally, it will be necessary to drill in the right places both on the drawers and on the uprights.

Direct installation of a stainless steel dryer is no more difficult than the first option, which was discussed in the article. Additional work associated with the replacement of the lower shelf made of chipboard with a frame is compensated by a simpler installation of mounting hardware for fixing the gratings. The sequence of work in this case is as follows.

First you need to install an aluminum frame instead of the removed bottom, which consists of two square-section metal tubes, a set of screws and a pair of plastic mounting plates. Having connected the sidewalls and aluminum tubes together, you need to twist the frame. And then attach the resulting rectangle to the vertical racks of the case. To do this, even before the assembly itself, mark the entry points for the self-tapping screws and drill blind holes 11-12 mm deep into them. In this case, neither a tape measure nor any other measuring tool is needed. Simply align the plastic side of the frame with the upright so that their front and bottom sides match up, and poke holes in the center of the holes with an awl. Then drill recesses with a diameter of 5 or 6 mm (there may be different euro screws).

This setup has another feature. Since stainless steel dryers with a frame from different manufacturers may have design differences, the installation process is also not the same. In most models, the plastic side plates perform two functions: they simultaneously serve as an integral part of the frame and retainers of the bottom deep mesh for plates. In this case, you just have to screw the fasteners holding the second grille in the upper part of the module. You already know how to correctly determine the distance between the grids, and there is no need to find the amount of indentation from the front and back edges.

Insert the grids into the sockets on the side fixing strips, snap them in and slide both pallets into the special grooves located at the bottom of the same plates. After that, you can return the module back to the wall and fix the facades, the cabinet is ready for use in a new quality.

Drying unit in the corner module

By analogy with rectilinear models, there are two types of corner dryers: with a frame for a body without a bottom and ordinary grids with pallets. In principle, their installation is in many ways similar to the installation of conventional dish racks, but there are several differences. We will discuss them, without being distracted by the standard actions performed during the installation of dryers, they have already been described in detail.

It should be noted that the dryer for the corner module has three mounting plates, and not two, as provided for standard models. This is not surprising, since they are attached to two side posts and a back wall. The last detail, or rather its absence in the module, can create a certain problem. In general, according to the rules, a hinged corner cabinet should have one of the back walls made of chipboard, but this condition is far from always met. The curbstone is simply clogged with two pieces of fiberboard, before installing a narrow vertical chipboard sideboard in the back corner. It is impossible to screw the mounting plate to it, therefore, some changes in the design of the module must be made.

In order to be able to install the dryer in a corner wall cabinet with fiberboard backs, it is necessary to install two cross bars about 120 mm wide at the back of the cabinet. Material for them can be obtained using the bottom or the middle shelf. After all, if you are engaged in self-installation of drying, then the module was originally intended for other purposes. This means that it must necessarily have a horizontal partition made of chipboard. In principle, both the bottom and the shelf are suitable for cutting the tsargs.

Needless to say, in this case, you need to remove the module from the wall. In principle, it is possible to fasten both sides to the body using plastic furniture corners, but such fasteners are not very reliable. Yes, and to perform all the work in pedestals of a similar design, which are in limbo, is rather inconvenient. Keep in mind that you will need to mark up, drill and directly install the gratings, so everything suggests that the cabinet still needs to be lowered.

The drawers are screwed with confirmations between one of the side posts and the vertical bar. Do not forget that these parts must be shorter by 16 or 18 mm (depending on the thickness of the plate) of the very bottom from which you will cut them. In order not to waste time later on fitting, consider everything at once. The design features of some models of dryers with a frame require partial dismantling of the module - you need to remove one sidewall. Otherwise, installation will be difficult or impossible. The described models are made for corner cabinets with dimensions of 600x600 mm. If your furniture does not meet these requirements, then it is recommended to purchase structures consisting of ordinary gratings, without a frame, in which case they can be easily shortened. In the case when the locker is larger, the most reliable ways to solve the problem are either adding additional slats or installing a vertical jumper inside the cabinet. The second option is necessary if the difference in size is too large.

How to choose and install a dryer in a module with non-standard dimensions

Since drying is carried out for modules with a strictly defined internal opening, the owners of wall cabinets that differ in their width from strictly defined values may encounter a problem when searching for a model with the right dimensions. In principle, such cases are quite rare, since factory furniture has dimensions that correspond to universally accepted standards, but still such difficulties do occur from time to time.

The easiest way to adapt drying is to reduce it. But this must be done wisely, take into account some details and know which model is better to choose. It is also necessary to correctly determine the size by which the grids should be shortened. A lot of mistakes are made precisely because of the markup. This is a rather curious, but very offensive and expensive blunder. Whatever methods people do not try to determine the size of the cut piece. Although there is nothing complicated about this, for some reason, the cut-off grille is often either longer or shorter. The first option is not so terrible, but the second one can upset any master very much. In the best case, you can somehow build up areas on the side posts of the cabinet with the help of chipboard strips, so that you can put too short nets between them. It is easy to imagine how ridiculous such a design can sometimes look.

Let's say you are the owner of a 745 mm wide cabinet and decide to install a dryer in it. The correct actions to eliminate the error look like this:

  1. The store purchases the model with the closest suitable size - 800 mm.
  2. First install the mounting hardware, and only then do the trimming of the nets.
  3. Measure the resulting distance with a tape measure and compare it with the calculated data, subtracting 55 mm from the original mesh length. The values must match within +/-3 mm.
  4. Only after such a double check can one begin to shorten the gratings, using a small grinder or a hacksaw for this purpose. If the dryer is not made of stainless steel, remember about the protective and decorative coating, trying to damage it as little as possible.

It is possible to reduce the dimensions of the pallet only by 25-35 mm. This feature should be taken into account when choosing a model. It should be borne in mind that it will not work to get a container to collect liquid into the grooves on the mounts, so the pallet is installed on the bottom shelf. This means that drying with a frame is not suitable in this situation, or you will have to put up with the regular ingress of water onto the countertop.

In general, such a situation requires careful attention to the installation of the nets themselves and to ensuring the protection of body parts from flowing water. The information presented, of course, will not be useful in most cases, but it can help someone both in choosing a dryer and during its installation.

What to do if the facades of the drying cabinet do not have decorative ventilation grilles

When equipping a cabinet with a dryer that would fully meet your requirements, you may encounter another problem - the lack of grilles on the facades. Of course, there are practically no hopeless situations, especially among Russian people. But the search for new doors and the selection of suitable gratings can take a lot of time, and the cost of a “new thing” may not be so small. In addition, it is often almost impossible to find completely identical doors. This is due to the fact that local manufacturers simply do not purchase a specific PVC film decor used for the manufacture of MDF facades for various reasons.

However, it is not at all necessary to go to significant financial and time costs in order to install facades with gratings. You can choose a different path, leaving the doors alone. By the way, this method is cheaper and easier. Of course, you will have to tinker a bit, but you will save money and relieve yourself of the activities associated with ordering facades. The solution to this small problem lies on the surface. To be more precise, on the roof of a wall cabinet. You can cut ventilation grilles into the top shelf and achieve the same result with much less effort.

To perform this work, you will need a jigsaw and a chipboard file, which provides a clean cut at the bottom of the laminated part, its teeth point upwards. Lattices can be purchased both on the market and in furniture fittings stores. When choosing them, you need to try to provide the largest possible ventilation area, but not to the detriment of the integrity and rigidity of the pedestal body. For example, for a module with a width of 600 mm and a depth of 280-300, gratings of 180x80 mm are perfect, they will need to be embedded in the amount of three or four pieces. With a decrease or increase in the dimensions of the locker, this number changes. The ventilation grilles have different colors, however, this range is not too wide, but it will not be difficult to choose a product that is more or less suitable for the case. You need to look for specimens with a wide side that can hide all defects.

Inserting decorative ventilation grilles is carried out as follows:

  1. If the distance between the top shelf of the cabinet and the ceiling allows you to work with a jigsaw, then there is no need to remove the module from the wall. Consider also the length of the file. Those who masterfully use this power tool do not need to dismantle the top row of the kitchen set even with a very small clearance, since rectangular holes can be cut from the inside. Only in this case you need to buy a nail file with teeth pointing down.
  2. Mark the shelf so that untouched chipboard sections remain on all sides, the width of which should be at least 50 mm. The same requirement applies to the gaps between the ventilation grilles themselves.
  3. Drill holes at the tops of the resulting rectangles with an 8-10 mm drill, their centers should be located inside the figure so that the sides of the rectangle pass tangentially to the outside of each of the holes. All this must be done in order to make it convenient for you to cut out rectangular openings, without holes it is impossible to insert a nail file and make turns.
  4. When all the holes are cut out, it remains to glue the ventilation grilles. They are inserted from the inside. If some opening turned out to be a little wider, then put some kind of spacer between the grill body and the end of the laminated chipboard or grab it with masking tape to the top shelf, so you will ensure high-quality adhesion of the surfaces.

Although the procedure for installing gratings is not particularly complicated, it is better to make a control cut-in on some ownerless part. This is especially true for those with a jigsaw on "you". Such tests will allow you to get a better feel for the power tool, as well as detect errors that are not uncommon when marking.

Interesting and useful little things and do-it-yourself devices give the house a special charm. The very place for them is in the kitchen - such crafts make it cozy and especially homely. Many designer things can be easily done on your own with minimal needlework skills. So, a useful master class on how to decorate the kitchen.

What do-it-yourself designer things are appropriate in the kitchen? Topiary

You can decorate the kitchen if you make a topiary - a kind of imitation of a tree of happiness. Today, such crafts have become very popular, because it is believed that topiary brings good luck to homes. Making such souvenirs yourself is extremely simple and does not require special skills. The master class can be viewed online.

Completely different and sometimes unexpected accessories can be used as details of a tree - its leaves and flowers - ribbons, bows, artificial flowers, artificial and live fruits, sweets.

In order to make a topiary, you need to make a base. It will form the shape of a tree and any interesting components will be inserted into it. The base is made from:

  • old ball;
  • polystyrene;
  • ready-made polystyrene balls, which are sold in hobby stores;
  • papier-mache in the form of a ball.

To make a stylish topiary in the kitchen, you need to think about the trunk. The trunk of a tree can be made from a real tree branch, wire, a stick wrapped in twine. If the topiary is tiny, then a pencil is used as a trunk.

The base is put on the trunk. Wires are stuck into the base, on which those trinkets that depict the crown are fixed - bows, shells, sweets. The main thing is to plant the entire surface of the base tightly so that there are no gaps, trying to follow the rules of symmetry. The tree is planted in a cache-pot, in which a synthetic winterizer can be placed as a filler. From above it is masked with expanded clay or decorative pebbles. Topiary is ready.

Drainer

Why not make useful gadgets for the home? For example, kitchen accessories - dish dryers. Such a dryer can become a table decoration if you make it in the original style.

The dryer for dishes made of wood looks very beautiful and original. For its manufacture, you will need small blocks of wood - better than pine and which for wood. All parts must be carefully sanded and glued. You can cover the dryer for dishes made of wood with paint or varnish.

You can make very original souvenirs for the kitchen if you use unexpected accessories. For example, a dish dryer can be made from pencils. As the basis of the stand, a cutting kitchen board made of wood or just a piece of wood is used. On the board make markings for the holes. The holes should be where the racks will be in the dish dryer to hold the dishes. Pencils are used as racks. The holes are drilled with a drill, pencils are inserted into them, glued and the dish dryer is ready. If you take pencils with colored cases, you get a very cheerful positive thing. Such souvenirs can be safely made as a gift.

Kitchen organizer

Organizers are interesting and useful kitchen gadgets designed to store every little thing. The organizer can be made from fabric. Such nice crafts can even be given as a housewarming gift. To do this, you can take your favorite fabric and sew a rectangle out of it. It has pockets of various sizes. Pockets can be appliquéd or embellished with embroidery. You can stick various trinkets on the pockets for decoration. Such an organizer will especially decorate the kitchen in folk style.

An interesting organizer is obtained from a metal mesh. It can be painted in different colors - a master class on metal painting can be viewed on the Internet. This organizer is good for a minimalist or high-tech kitchen. Various knick-knacks can be hung on a grid, notes can be attached to it. The frame with all kinds of clothespins placed in it is also an interesting organizer where you can store trinkets and various interesting little things.

Napkins

Napkins can decorate the kitchen shelves, windowsill, table. If needlework is the hobby of the hostess, tonies can be crocheted or knitted. If needlework is not your strong point, you can still quickly make a napkin out of fabric. Napkins with various patterns will look especially beautiful. Such needlework is available to everyone - just apply the selected pattern or pattern to the fabric using a stencil.

There is a special master class on screen painting. But you can arrange a napkin without resorting to it. It is enough to choose the motif you like, transfer it to cardboard and cut out the stencil using a clerical knife.

Important: Interesting interior solutions will be obtained if napkin motifs are applied to walls, curtains or kitchen cabinets using the same stencil technique.

You can make other souvenirs in the kitchen, using the same painting through a stencil. For example, salt shakers with a picture, cookbooks with a picture on the cover, and other nice trinkets that are usually lined with shelves at home will be a good decoration for the kitchen.

Rug for the kitchen

The rug in the kitchen looks very nice. It can be woven, braided. Moreover, complex devices are not required to create a rug, although needlework is quite complicated and already requires skills.

The simplest thing is to make a rug in a knotted manner. To do this, you will need a grid for the rug and old things that you can’t get your hands to throw away, having interesting colors. Old things just need to be cut into strips. Then each strip is simply tied with a knot in the mesh cage, leaving the length of the ends to be the length of the pile you want to have in the rug. The work is simple, but painstaking. The rug can be done in a couple of evenings. Here the secret is in the beautiful selection of colors.

You can weave braids from strips of fabric. And already wrap the pigtails in a spiral. You will also get a beautiful rug in the grandmother's style.

Interesting rugs can be made from twine. It is better to take a thick twine. It can simply be wound into a roll, securing it with threads so that the roll does not fall apart. It will turn out such a pancake, similar to a tree saw cut. Such a rug is done quickly, but looks impressive.

Interesting rugs are made from fabric balls sewn together. But this needlework takes time.

In a word, a kitchen rug is a stylish and easy-to-make accessory.

Conclusion

You can make crafts for the kitchen with your own hands, guided by ideas found on the Internet or guided by your imagination and skills. In any case, do not be afraid that such crafts will look ridiculous. Even if they are not as professional as they would like, they will still create interesting and unusual interiors, the main value of which is originality and piecework.

How to make a cabinet for drying dishes with your own hands

Dish drying cabinet is part of the built-in kitchen. Such a cabinet is usually located above the sink. Consider the design of the cabinet for drying dishes and the drying itself.

Types of dryers for dishes

There are two main types of dish dryers that are built into dish cabinets:

Dryers with polymer coating, usually white

These are inexpensive drying, which is called an economy option. Such drying is supplied with one tray for water flowing from the dishes.

Dryers more than 600 mm bend, and they are not durable, rust begins to appear over time, the pallet breaks easily. Installation of a white dryer is simple, 8 holes with a diameter of 8 mm are drilled, into which plastic bushings are installed.

Galvanized dryer, usually chrome color

More expensive, 5-10 times the price difference, but also a more durable dish drying option.

Dish dryer width

By drying width for 400, 450, 500, 600, 800, 900 mm. The size is given for the size of the cabinet in which the dryer will be built in. That is, drying at 400 mm means that it will be installed in a cabinet with a width of 400 mm.

There is such a nuance here, there are dryers that are installed either in a case made of chipboard 16 mm thick or 18 mm thick, and there are universal ones that are suitable for both 16 and 18 mm chipboard due to the use of special gaskets, pay attention to this when buying a dryer .

The optimal size is 600 mm, 400-500 mm is small, and 800-900 mm begin to sag under the weight of dishes, and the dish drying cabinet itself turns out to be heavy when loaded with such a width.

Varieties of dryers for dishes:

  • installed in a cabinet with drawers
  • drying, which is hung on the railing
  • desktop drying drying in a corner cabinet.

Drying cabinet design

In general, by design drying cabinet corresponds to an ordinary cabinet, except for the bottom of the cabinet. The fact is that there is high humidity in the cabinet for drying dishes and additional ventilation is necessary. To solve this problem, the bottom in such a cabinet is not made or made in the form of two slats 100 mm wide.

Drying cabinet design with a bottom of two strips are made for cheap white dryers and for dryers that do not have a groove in the back for installing a fiberboard back wall.

In the design variant without a bottom, the bottom is the lower part of the dryer, or rather its frame. That is, drying itself provides the necessary rigidity of the structure. Although, in my opinion, this should be done when the drying cabinet is between other cabinets in the kitchen. You should do this, because under the weight of the dishes, the drying fixture does not withstand, and the drying body in the lower part begins to move apart.

The article discusses a reliable and aesthetic way to install a standard dish dryer in a custom-sized cabinet. Installing a dish dryer in a cupboard

Option to install a standard dish dryer in a cabinet of non-standard sizes

Furniture standards for a dish dryer ensure its installation in a cabinet with a front width of 400, 500, 600 mm, etc. At the same time, the length of the dryer will be 32 mm less than the specified front width. It is clear that installing a dryer in a properly designed cabinet is not a problem: put marks, drilled holes, inserted latches and installed the dryer.

And what can be done if the kitchen requires the installation of a dish dryer in a cabinet with non-standard dimensions (old or home-made furniture, etc.).

Consider an original idea for a beautiful and high-quality installation of a dryer in a non-standard cabinet.

Required set of materials and tools:

  • awl;
  • drill;
  • roulette;
  • Dryer;
  • pencil;
  • hacksaw for metal;
  • drill for metal with a diameter of 12 mm;
  • copper tube for air conditioning, 12.7 mm in diameter;
  • caliper with caliper (for taking accurate measurements).

Dish dryer installation

To begin with, it is necessary to fit a dryer with a size smaller than the width of the box itself. For example, the inner width of the drawer is 500mm, so you need to choose a dryer with a length of 500mm. But, since the length of the drying set is indicated by the width of the facade, its actual size will be 468 mm. If you take a dryer larger than the required box size, then such an important part of the headset as a water trap cannot be installed under it.

Mounting hole marking

The dryer should be placed at a height of 100 - 140 mm from the bottom of the drawer and 300 - 400 mm from the top shelf.

Scheme of installing a shelf for dishes in a kitchen cabinet.

With this in mind, four holes are marked for fastening. A dryer with dressed fasteners leans against one wall of the cabinet and places for drilling mounting holes are outlined. The distance is measured from the second mount to the free stand.

Drilling holes and installing inserts

Holes are drilled in the marked places, with a diameter of 12 mm and a depth of 13 mm. Hole parameters are controlled by a caliper. The size is measured from the copper tube: the distance from the dryer attachment to the free wall divided by two and 14 mm is added to this size (13 mm hole depth and plus 1 mm for installation error).

For example, the free dimension is 50 mm, then the length of one tube is: (50 / 2) + 14 = 29 mm. Such copper stops need 4 pieces.

With a hacksaw for metal, the prepared copper tube is cut into measured lengths. Prepared copper inserts are hammered into holes with a diameter of 12 mm. Fasteners are inserted into them, and the dryer is mounted in a cabinet.

An example of installing a dish dryer in a cabinet with a wider width.

This method of mounting the dryer is reliable and original. Fits perfectly in the design of chipboard, with a red or brown structure.
